How much value does the comments section of a Blog add to your Social Media experience?

Before even getting into the main thrust of this Blog post, let me - personally - state that I am well aware that this debate probably lived (and died) back in 2003. The truth is that (like you) I have my own opinions about how Social Media plays out in a corporate role. At a macro level, I don't think the model is something that anyone can template. I do believe that every corporation must have a unique...

Ghost Blogging And Last Rites

If there's one debate that never gets tired, it's the one about Ghost Blogging.

We've come to this strange intersection with Social Media where companies want to Blog, but they feel like their CEO (or others within the company) would best be served if that voice was created by a ghost writer. It's an issue that irritates me because I don't agree with it, but I do understand why businesses do it (hence my frustration). Mark W. Schaefer (over at Grow) had a great Blog post titled, Why It's...

Make A Fool Of Yourself

Don't be an idiot. Don't be a jerk. But, don't be afraid to make a fool of yourself.

I spend a lot of my days trying to figure out what clicks. You can read that last sentence in any number of ways. When it comes to looking at Social Media (and Blogs, in particular) it's always fascinating to see what gets the most attention. Here's my unsubstantiated opinion from a market of one (me): it's the very personal stuff and it's the stuff that pushes the standard thinking to the edge.

Media Hacks Audio Podcast #34 Is Now Live

Episode #215 of Six Pixels of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast is now live and ready for you to listen to. This also episode #34 of Media Hacks.

Hugh McGuire (Book Oven, Bite-Sized Edits, LibriVox), Julien Smith (co-author of Trust Agents, In Over Your Head) and I met for a sushi lunch and decided to record the latest episode of Media Hacks. We all agree that we love the ambient background noise (even the music) that comes from recording live - we hope you do too. We're not sure if it was ...

People Pay For Value - Their Value, Not Yours

Why do so many products, services and brands grapple with such a very basic concept: people pay for value. But, it's their perceived value and not the value you assign to it.

Newspapers aren't dying. People are just buying them less and less because they're not getting the same amount of value out of them as the used to. Same with in-home phone lines. Most people feel that they can get away with just having a mobile number. It's like this with movies as well. Movies in the theatre now play on ...
