Pauline Rowson to speak at U3A meeting about her crime novels

I'm looking forward to giving a talk this week on 16 November at the U3A group at Sarum, near Salisbury on how I write my crime novels and thrillers and about my DI Andy Horton marine mystery series of crime novels.

I've given quite a few talks to U3A groups around the country and really enjoy them. They are always such a delightful and receptive audience and I am looking forward to entertaining the U3A Sarum members on Wednesday. I've also got a couple more U3As lined up for next year. You can find out more about U3A on their web site, but briefly U3A stands for the University of the Third Age. It is a self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment, providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment. There are local U3As all over the UK.

While many fear public speaking I really thrive on it, guess it comes from my background in marketing and as a trainer and professional conference speaker.

I am always keen to speak to groups including retirement associations, charities, and at libraries, Women's Institutes, to Reading Groups, professional organisations and at conferences and literary and book festivals so if you have an event and would like a speaker please do get in touch. You can also find out more about my public speaking engagements on my web site at http://www.rowmark.co.uk

Great talk yesterday to a packed U3A audience, talking about my Solent based crime novels

Over a hundred people turned out on a damp May day yesterday in Hook in Hampshire to hear me talk about my Solent based thrillers and my marine mystery detective crime novels featuring the hunky DI Andy Horton, and what a marvellous audience they were.

My thanks to the programme secretary, Angela Powell, for organising the event and to everyone who came. Also to those who bought signed copies of my crime novels. I thoroughly enjoyed it and from the comments received am pleased the audience did too.I look forward to the next one.

If you would like to book me as a speaker at your event please contact me via my web site at http://www.rowmark.co.uk

Lovely audience at Test Villages U3A

On 5 June I gave a talk about my DI Andy Horton mystery crime novels set in the Solent area on the South Coast of England, to the Test Villages U3A group at a village called Longstock near Stockbridge in the heart of the Hampshire countryside.

It was a glorious sunny day and the audience were lovely. They asked lots of questions about my flawed and rugged detective, DI Andy Horton, and my life of crime, writing that is.

I've posted a couple of photos from the event here on Goodreads.

U3As are self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operatives for older people no longer in full time work, providing opportunities for their members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning not for qualifications, but for fun.

Next up is a talk to the Emsworth U3A on 21 June. I'm looking forward to it.

New Video posted on writing a crime novel, first drafts and revisions

I have posted a new video here on Goodreads, on my official website and on My You Tube Channel. This short video was shot at a talk I gave in June 2013 to members of the Emsworth U3A. In it I am talking about how long it takes me to write a crime novel, first drafts and revisions.

I hope you enjoy watching it.

A lively and friendly audience for tales of criminality at Ringwood U3A

On Thursday 19 June I had the pleasure of speaking to members of a very friendly and welcoming U3a at Ringwood. Ringwood is an historic market town in Hampshire located on the River Avon, on the western edge of the New Forest. It’s situated between Southampton and Bournemouth.

Apparently Ringwood had a long history of a thriving hand knitting industry. (I knew I should have taken my knitting with me). It became famous for its "Ringwood" woollen gloves, which were knitted in either cotton or wool 4 ply, and on fairly thick needles. Ringwood gloves were knitted commercially until after the Second World War.

But it wasn’t to talk about knitting that I was there but about my crime novels.

I entertained members of the audience with tales of the dogged Portsmouth cop, DI Andy Horton and explained how I plot, research and write the DI Andy Horton series and my other crime novels all of which are set on the South Coast of England, in Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.

I talked about the inspiration behind the Horton novels and my two standalone crime novels, In Cold Daylight and In For The Kill. After the talk there followed, as usual, a very lively Q & A session and a book signing.

I give a number of talks around the UK to many different organisations. I will be appearing at Worthing Library on 28 June and Lymington Library on 16 July.

For all my forthcoming speaking engagements or to book me as a speaker visit the Events Page on my website
