Hayling Island Libary Grand Re-Opening 27 July 2009

I'm delighted to have been asked to help celebrate my local library's grand re-opening on 27 July at 4pm.

Hayling Library is in the process of undergoing a major refit and I know it has been missed by many people since it closed on 30 May. However, I am sure the wait will be worthwhile as we will have new shelving, new furniture, a much needed new community room and MORE books - 300 to be precise, great news. Libraries are such an important part of our local communities.

The makeover at Hayling Library has been made possible after Hampshire County Council won lottery funding.

I have been asked to be present at the re-opening ceremony on 27 July which takes place at 4pm and the celebrations will then continue into the evening until 7pm. So I will be at the library for a while to sign books and to talk to anyone about my marine mystery crime novels which are set in the Solent area. I'll also be happy to answer questions and provide advice to any budding writers. So if you're in the area do come along.

Celebration time

Hayling Island Library was buzzing with activity yesterday when throngs of local people turned up to celebrate its re-opening after its major refit.

The library has been completely redecorated and a new community room added with its own separate access allowing the library to run more group activity. There are now toilet facilities (handy when you're in the library a long time) and a very welcome coffee/tea machine - so you might need that loo!

All my novels were out on loan so I took some along with me to sell and sign for those interested. I met some lovely people.

There was a celebration cake, nibbles, and drinks, face painting and balloons for the children, or for anyone else for that matter, a chance to view the new facilities, and of course, to change your library books, DVDs etc.

It's good to have our local library back on the run and great to see it so vibrant.

BBC Radio Solent

I was on the Julian Clegg show on BBC Radio Solent this morning at 6.45 a.m talking to Julian about my novels. I'm one of 'Julian's People' those whose lives he has chosen to follow on his programme throughout the year.I'll be on his programme again on 1 October 2009.

Min tour in the North

I'm off to the North of England on a mini tour with speaking engagements lined up. I'm looking forward to it. I shall be at Newcastle City Library on Tuesday 29 September at 2pm, followed by a visit to North Tyneside Central Library in the evening at 7pm. The next day it's off to North Yorkshire where I am talking at a lunch event at The Richmond Walking and Book Festival on 30 September 2009 at 11am at the Richmond Cricket Club - howzat!

I'll be answering questions about my novels and signing books. I hope to meet lots of people on my travels including perhaps my partners in crime at the book festival, Peter Robinson, Ruth Rendell and Ian Rankin, and maybe do some research for a new thriller which is rumbling around in the back of my mind. But first I've got to finish revising Blood On The Sand, which will be the new Inspector Andy Horton Marine Mystery crime novel to be published in February 2010. I also need to complete the one I am currently writing, which will follow that. Not sure of a title for it yet but it's another Horton marine mystery.

The Richmond Walking and Book Festival, now in its third year, runs from 25 September to 4 October and includes music, films, slideshows, literary lunches, historical strolls and theatre. A full programme can be found on the web site http://www.booksandboots.org/index.html

Tickets for my lunch event cost £12.50 and include the talk, lunch and coffee. For full details and a booking visit http://www.booksandboots.org/walkingb...

For FREE tickets for Newcastle City Library on 29 September at 2pm contact Newcastle City Library on 0191 277 4100 and for North Tyneside Library on 29 September at 7pm contact 0191 200 6968.

Hope to meet some of you there!

South Wales book tour kicked off at Abertridwr Library

My recent book tour of talks in South Wales on the publication in the UK of the tenth in the DI Andy Horton crime series, Death Surge, kicked off in Abertridwr Library.

Abertridwr is a village in the borough of Caerphilly, Wales in the Aber Valley. The English translation is ‘The Meeting Place of Three Streams.' You can read more about Abertridwr and my talk at the library on my blog on my website

Abertridwr is set in between rolling hills - or should that be mountains - and the spirit of the residents remains undaunted despite the difficult economic climate. It was a delight to be on the receiving end of some great Welsh hospitality and humour and to visit a lovely library with friendly and dedicated staff.
