Ask Questions
I have two young boys who are almost constantly asking questions and as much as it can drive me crazy at times, the truth is they are getting the answers they seek a good portion of the time. In my line of work, I almost always have to ask questions and I could probably do a a better job of it. In fact, I might get more of the answers I seek if I weren’t so hesitant to ask questions.
When it comes to reading and writing, we are always asking questions. Who is the main character? What are they trying to do and why? Are they successful? The questions could go on and on, but the purpose of what we read or write is the same—to answer the questions.
So why am I going on about questions this week. Well, I’ve come to the realization that I’m not alone in my hesitation to ask all the questions I need to and should. And I am not really sure why our hesitation exists to begin with. Why is it we go from being curious kids to adults who think we have all the answers. And is being the latter really beneficial to us? I would say no. If anything, I would say it harms us to not ask questions and seek answers to so many things in life. But then, that is just my opinion.
Happy writing this week!

Zombies Shopping for Christmas Paranormal-Scope

We are normally absorbed with what is happening on land during the winter. Beneath the waves, there is a lot going on in the sea that we’re not aware of.
While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.
The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.
Aries:
Zombies love to find and carry around shiny things. Be sure to shine your love on loved ones. They need you, even if it’s a FaceTime call or regular phone call.
Taurus:
Zombies fixate on interesting things like a knick-knack or baseball mitt. You’re going to find the perfect gift.
Gemini:
Zombies are often restless in their wanderings, going here and there without focus. Focus is important for you. If necessary, make a list of daily tasks.
Cancer:
Zombies are attracted to clothes that shimmer or have some bling to them. Consider adding one or two items to your wardrobe.
Leo:
A zombie is a casual shopper. At this time of year, checking off items from a list will help save time.
Virgo:
Zombie shoppers don’t suffer from holiday stress. Non-zombies do. Build an extra nap in your busy schedule.
Libra:
Zombies don’t get overwhelmed. They just let exciting things come to them. Take it easy and watch the fun from a safe distance (of 6 feet or more).
Scorpio:
Zombies have faint memories of the joy of other people. Listen. Smile. You don’t have to give your opinion. Some people just need a listener to feel better.
Sagittarius:
Zombies don’t understand new things but may carry them around anyway. This is the ideal time for you to start new projects that will be completed sometime in the new year.
Capricorn:
Zombies take what they desire. Now may be the opportunity for you to do the same. Be consider first if you really need it.
Aquarius:
Zombies don’t remember work. They like to wander and shop. You will be subject to stress so just work for balance in all things.
Pisces:
Zombies love the spotlight though they often have little to say. Give others their time to shine and applaud their efforts.

Torn Between Two Men By Susan Hanniford Crowley

Vampire Princess of New York is about Noblesse Vander Meer, the daughter of King Max. He met her at the Seige of the Bastille where she was shot down. Max was so impressed by her courage, that he carried her away from the battle. In the seconds before her death, he made her a vampire and his daughter.
In the following scene, Noblesse has fallen in love with Donovan Dupre (human), who is the father of Laura Cordelais (a vampire knight) and Evelyn Vander Meer (Max’s new wife). Vampires are cold to touch, unless they are with their lifemate. Donovan isn’t telling her if her touch is warm. Then she meets a new vampire in New York that declares she is his lifemate as indicated by her warmth. This is problem. There can only be one lifemate.
An attack has taken place in the Arnhem Society of New York building, which is a sanctuary for vampires as well as a philanthropic organization. (Italics indicates mindtalk or telepathy.)
*
Noble stood, gripping Donovan’s arm. Coralee lay in blood screaming on the floor. A stake sticking out of her chest, near her heart. All the vampires of the Arnhem Society gathered around her.
David looked at them. You two should be back in your room under guard.
Perhaps we weren’t the target after all, my brother. She took Donovan’s hand and pulled him close in case she was wrong.
Mina broke the circle around Coralee and knelt beside her. First she had Coralee drink from a small bottle. Noblesse guessed that it was the King’s Elixir. At this rate, Max would have to come home soon to replenish their supply. Then holding a towel against the wound, she pulled out the stake.
Coralee was still in pain. Noblesse could feel it; it was the connection between all Arnhem Knights. They all knew her torment. “I opened my door and this stake flew at me.” Sydney examined the mechanism. “Coralee, didn’t you go into your room for a stasis sleep two weeks ago?”
“Yes.” Coralee struggled to answer.
“So we have no idea how long this mechanism was attached to your door.”
David shook his head. “Donovan, please, take Noblesse back to your room.”
Donovan took her hand and was turning to leave, when they ran into a vampire they didn’t know.
“Oh,” David said, “This is Kaz, one of the three vampires who requested sanctuary.” Now she remembered. He was on the front step of the society when they were in lockdown. He was the one that continued to watch her when she left with Donovan.
The tall, dark haired and very muscular Kaz smiled and extended his hand. Donovan shook it.
Turning to Noblesse, Kaz asked, “Is he your pet?”
She panicked. “No, he’s my friend.” Immediately Noblesse felt Donovan’s hurt. He was everything to her, and it made no sense that she answered that way.
When Kaz extended his hand, she took it. She got no impressions of what he was thinking, could not read his mind. That meant he was either skilled at blocking others from viewing his thoughts or was an ancient.
Kaz smiled, gazing into her eyes. “You’re warm.”
Noble sank to the floor. This can’t be happening.
“Are you all right?” She reluctantly accepted Kaz’s help up from the floor.
The vampires around them smiled. Some look surprised. David and Laura frowned, looking at each other.
Noblesse looked for Donovan. One moment he was in the crowd watching, and the next he was gone. Donovan was letting her go. She didn’t want him to do that.
“Maybe we could go down to the kitchen and get something to drink and get to know each other?” Kaz suggested.
*
Chapter 8
Donovan couldn’t breathe. Here was her lifemate. He could not force her to choose between them. He loved her too much to do that. Noblesse deserved happiness.
He went directly to Max’s suite and rummaged around looking for his clothes. Not the ones Max had purchased for him so he would be presentable for the wedding and beyond, but his jeans, T-shirt, and vest. He wanted his boots and bomber jacket too. Where were the keys to his Harley?
Donovan needed them now more than anything and hurried through closets and drawers until he eventually found them. He changed and put the keys in his jeans pocket.
“Papa, where are you going?” Laura stood in the doorway to the suite.
“I just need to get away for a while. Noblesse has found her lifemate, and I don’t want to interfere. Her happiness means everything to me.”
Donovan went into the healing room and found the star on the wall, that when pressed would open a door. He remembered David saying that one would lead to the garage.
Laura was right behind him. “So you’re going to leave just like that?”
“She doesn’t need me anymore.”
“Where are you going?”

Walk Don’t Run
As I sit down to write this blog, I’m coming in from taking our dog for one of his daily walks. A walk that started out as a walk and somehow ended up at a run. I’m not sure whether it was cooped up energy on his part or impatience on my part as I thought of everything I still needed to do. Either way, we both seemed to benefit from the exercise, fresh air and expended energy.
Exercise aside, this evening walk got me thinking once again about life’s pace and our need for speed. Should I keep pushing myself to run faster and faster with everything I do? Or should I talk a “walk don’t run” attitude? There probably is a need for both paces and it just requires a bit ore thought as to when one is more important than the other. I say this as it is easy to get caught in the hamster wheel of life and when you really think about it, there is no reason to do so— in most cases the world will not end if we slow down. Life continues and we just start back up tomorrow. Sp, savor the moment.
Happy writing this week!

Aries:
Cetus eat a lot. They have no sense of moderation. Look at your current diet and see where you can make changes to make you feel better and happier.
Taurus:
Scylla is a six-headed monster of the deep. Grooming is definitely a problem. Consider some new clothes to highlight your eyes.
Gemini:
Charybdis is a whirlpool that drags down the unwary. Don’t be pulled down by any negative people. Keep your spirits high. Things are going to change.
Cancer:
The Sirens are deceivers. They look gorgeous and have lovely voices, but don’t believe them. Beware of people like this.
Leo:
The last thing you need to do is release the Kraken. The world isn’t ending. Better times are around the corner. Hold on to that.
Virgo:
Sea nymphs have their own agenda and aren’t really helpful. Be true to those who are closest to you.
Libra:
Circe was a sea witch and mastered illusion. Don’t fall into any of the schemes going around. Find out your facts from a reputable source.
Scorpio:
The Lernean Hydra had 9 heads. Apparently, they all spoke at once and had different opinions. Listen to people but be slow to make any permanent decisions.
Sagittarius:
The Cthulhu needs his sleep. Otherwise, he is cranky when awakened. Are you getting enough sleep? Rest is important to good health.
Capricorn:
Godzilla loves to take walks. If you want to include walking in your exercise program, consult your physician.
Aquarius:
The Sea Turtle has the wisdom of the ages. Think about taking an online course, reading more books and magazines, or listening to them on tape.
Pisces:
Mermaids rise to the surface to look at our holiday lights. Enjoy this time even if it is quieter than you usually experience. Enjoy the love of the season.

Love the Second Time Around By Susan Hanniford Crowley
A friend of mine told me that my books were really about people who had hard luck. Here we have Max, who was once a Viking that pillaged the wrong village and was made a vampire. He lost his human life, his wife and family. Consider what it must feel like to have an eternity to mourn what you’ve lost. Are there second chances? Here’s an excerpt from Max’s book, Vampire King of New York.
*
Maximillion Vander Meer stood in the jagged mouth of the ice cave with a wolf skin girding his loins and fur boots on his feet. A frigid breeze breathed its welcome over his bare chest, arms and legs.
He smiled and closed his eyes to step back into the Viking past he loved, where he was free. He threw back his head and howled in exuberant abandonment. Then he ripped off the wolf skin and kicked off his boots. Max ran to the shadowed alcove he knew so well. A flicker of the past sparked in his brain and Vikings filled the cave, their voices rich in the chant of a ritual forgotten in the modern age, invoking the protection and wisdom of Odin, Thor, and Freya. Then he blinked and they were gone. Their voices silenced by time.
Every time he entered this sacred place hollowed out by his ancestors, their presence worked magic and distracted his weary heart from the curse inhabiting his body. This power brought him back to the Viking warrior deep within him, as only here could he reconnect with his lost humanity. Every passing moment the curse pulled him further from whom and what he’d once been. That was the danger in being a vampire. It wasn’t the chill of his body, but the distance that crept into his heart. He was on the edge of forgetting how the laughter of his son warmed him to his toes. The memory of Svenna’s delicious heat as her soft skin lay against his flesh igniting the fire between them, slipped through his fingers like water. Inhaling the fragrance of flowers in her hair had made him feel powerful. Even the excitement of the next adventure filled with salt spray and swords clashing faded away. His heart no longer raced.
The dire flaw in immortality was the sameness. Centuries of monotony blurred into others. Few ancient ones survived the deadly soul-numbing tedium of every day being the same. Closing on a thousand years, too many chose to lie in the sun and burn in agony over the course of two days until they crisped away in the wind. When the true burning began, night, the blessed night, offered no reprieve. The recent “chosen” death of his friend Coelhus was etched in his memory, making Max’s need more urgent than it had ever been. Coelhus had given up. After centuries of dreaming of a woman named Celeste, he ceased to believe she could be real. Coelhus could no longer bear the loneliness and the endless searching. Consumed by his dashed dreams, he gave his body to the sun. Max stayed with him in his last moments, and while he couldn’t deter his friend, he resolved not to end in ashes himself.
Time had robbed him of love, but today, in this moment, Max meant to get it back. Right now!

If you are in the path of storms like I am, be prepared. I have my glow sticks and blankets and extra food. I have my Kindle charged up and a booklight, too. Be safe, my friends.

For The Love Of…Your Superpower by Artemis Crow
My husband and I are great fans of superhero movies. On any given weekend day or night you can walk past our house and hear the speakers rumbling as we watch Marvel and DC movies, the Fast and Furious series (okay they aren’t really superheroes but they stayed at a Holiday Inn once…maybe), the Witcher, Tolkein movies, on and on.
Action isn’t the only genre we watch, but it is one of our favs. And yes, I do the “what if” questions: What if I had an Iron Man suit? What if I had Captain Marvel’s powers? Or Wonder Woman’s? What if I, like Star Lord, was raised by a Ravager? What if I had Aquaman’s powers? I could go on, but I’m sure you get my drift. I think most folks who are fans of the genre ask themselves the same questions.
Today, I want to challenge your perceptions about superpowers. Granted, anything remotely similar to the powers the characters listed above have are either impossible given the limitations of the human body, or require tech that won’t be invented until well past the length of our lives…if ever.
So, how exactly am I going to challenge your perceptions about superpowers we don’t have or can’t obtain? I want you to rethink what a superpower actually is, and how all of us have one or more superpower already.
Yes, I went there, but hear me out. Rather than think of a superpower being something no one else in the world has, I want to narrow the definition down to what do you have inside you that is the best of you. Your best skill, your best talent, your best gift to others; what is your personal superpower?
We all have them, and while I think it’s great fun to enjoy entertainment, and speculate about being gifted with an unrealistic superpower, I would like to see us think about our power and how we as individuals can use it, enhance it, share it to live our best lives and then reach out and help others too.
I believe one of my superpowers is the ability to find the humor in most every situation then sharing it with others. My friends and family know this about me. My Facebook friends are learning this about me since I devote my Artemis Crow timeline to sassy, silly, sometimes naughty, memes meant to give a giggle. In the current times of suffering and grief and stress, having a chance to laugh can get you through the hardest of days. If I can give that to people, then I have shared my superpower with them.
I have a couple other superpowers and more that I want to devote time to nurturing. Will my superpowers literally save the world? Well, no, but that’s not the point. What’s important here is twofold: one, recognize that which is best about you and build on it, revel in it, because that power is part of what makes you so very rare and beautiful and special in all the world; two, when you stand in your superpower and that foundation is rock solid, then you are ready to give of yourself to others. When that happens, you become a real superhero, or supershero, living your best life and helping those around you do the same.
We all have superpowers. I challenge you to claim them. I challenge you to claim the title of superhero of your own life. Then, I challenge you to live in that reality, sharing who you are with the world.
I. Am. Giggle. Monger!
May your words flow freely,
Artemis

What If Older is Wiser By Susan Hanniford Crowley
(I have several people on my favorite list.)
For a long time, I wondered why Santa is an old person! Why does he remind me of so many Grandpas and PopPops out there that watch over grandchildren and tell fascinating stories from another time? I am beginning to think that perhaps wisdom comes with a lifetime of experiences.
*
(The following is respectfully appropriated from J.A. Fludd who respectfully appropriated the following from Wendy Pini.)
A little something to ponder…
I asked one of my friends who has crossed 70 & is heading to 80 what sort of changes he is feeling in himself?
He sent me the following very interesting lines, which I would like to share with you ….
#1 After loving my parents, my siblings, my spouse, my children, my friends, now I have started loving myself.
#2 I just realized that I am not “Atlas”. The world does not rest on my shoulders.
#3 I now stopped bargaining with vegetables & fruits vendors. A few pennies more is not going to burn a hole in my pocket but it might help the poor fellow save for his daughter’s school fees.
#4 I pay my waitress a big tip. The extra money might bring a smile to her face. She is toiling much harder for a living than me
#5 I stopped telling the elderly that they’ve already narrated that story many times. The story makes them walk down the memory lane & relive the past.
#6 I have learned not to correct people even when I know they are wrong. The onus of making everyone perfect is not on me. Peace is more precious than perfection.
#7 I give compliments freely & generously. Compliments are a mood enhancer not only for the recipient, but also for me. And a small tip for the recipient of a compliment, never, NEVER turn it down, just say “Thank You”
#8 I have learned not to bother about a crease or a spot on my shirt. Personality speaks louder than appearances.
#9 I walk away from people who don’t value me. They might not know my worth, but I do.
#10 I remain cool when someone plays dirty to outrun me in the rat race. I am not a rat & neither am I in any race.
#11 I am learning not to be embarrassed by my emotions. It’s my emotions that make me human.
#12 I have learned that it’s better to drop the ego than to break a relationship. My ego will keep me aloof, whereas with relationships I will never be alone.
#13 I have learned to live each day as if it’s the last. After all, it might be the last.
#14 I am doing what makes me happy. I am responsible for my happiness, and I owe it to myself. Happiness is a choice. You can be happy at any time, just choose to be!
I decided to send this to all my friends. Why do we have to wait to be 70 or 80, why can’t we practice this at any stage and age….
I stole this, I don’t know who to credit it to, but thank you!
Good to share.
*
Thank you to Wendy and J.A. I have learned a lot just now.
Have fun and stay safe.

I’m Thankful…Yes, Even in 2020
Okay, so I’d like to say I’m spontaneous and some what unpredictable and perhaps I can be in some instances but today is not one of those instances. Today I am the optimist who is simply thankful. Too much has happened in this year of global tensions, crazy weather, a global pandemic and an economic recession—not to mention those of us who have faced our own personal challenges.
2020 has been a year like no other. Some of us have lost jobs or had work cut back. Others have faced illnesses or even lost loved ones to this horrible pandemic. We’ve watched our life savings ebb and flow on market whims or simply drained savings to make up for lost income or to help a friend. We’ve cut ourselves off from others and become lonely and so here we are suffering and alone. All right, I know I’m not sounding real positive here but the truth is it has been a hard year.
So what am I thankful for? I’m thankful my job has been somewhat stable and I’m thankful I’ve gotten to spend so much time with my kids even when they’ve driven me crazy. I’m thankful so many loved ones are still in my life and they are healthy. I’m thankful my kids are happy. I’m thankful I still have hope for so many things.
As always, I want to say thank you to our service members for all they’ve done for our country. For anyone reading, please feel free to share what you are thankful for— it is good for us to remember.
Happy writing this week!
