Introductions By Ripley Proserpina
Hello:)
I’m so excited to be a new weekly blogger here on Nights of Passion. This will be my first post, so let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Ripley Proserpina and I’m the author of the new adult romance series, The Searchers. I say series, because it’ll be six books. I just need to write the other three… Oh well, details…
The first book in the series is Finding Honor. Nora Leslie is named as a “person of interest” in a school shooting after her foster brother opens fire at the high school where she’s a substitute teacher. Even though Nora is shot, the police are leaning on her hard, thinking there has to be a connection between her and the crime. Spoiler- there’s not. Without friends or family to fall back on, she contacts Legal Aid and meets Ryan Valore, a law intern. He’s the hero type, and wants to rescue her, but things get more complicated when he introduces her to his roommates, all four of them. [image error]
Small aside— the series is Reverse Harem. For those who might be like, “Come again?” Reverse harem is a genre where the heroine falls in love with more than one guy, and they fall in love with her. It’s not a love triangle, because in one of those someone gets kicked to the curb, or dies, or turns out to be evil, or bows out gracefully. There are no teams in reverse harem— it’s one team and everyone wins.
I released a novella in The Searchers series, and that can be found in the reverse harem anthology Falling for Them. The next full length book is releasing in March and is called Finding Valor. While I love reverse harem, I’m also a sucker for paranormal romances and anything dark, and, I don’t know, foggy. Currently, I’m reading The Outsiders series by Rebecca Royce while simultaneously reading Daphne Du Maurier’s Jamaica Inn. Do you need to read books that match the season? Or maybe do it unconsciously?
Introductions are hard— I’m overcome with the urge to be super engaging and interesting, so I’ll quit while I’m ahead and leave you with an excerpt from my current work in progress, a matchmaking story about a fallen angel, adorable demon spawn, and a doctoral student.
“Yeah, yeah. I know. You’re big and bad. Let’s try this. What do you need to know from her? What will it take for you to fly away?”
Staring at Lucia, he seemed to weigh her question. “I want to know about my sister. Was she the girl’s creator? Where is she now?”
“That’s it?”
A stillness came over him, reminding her of a panther watching its prey while it lay in wait. Finally, he answered, “Yes. That’s it.”
“Well, when she wakes up. We can ask her. And then you can leave us alone.”
The side of his mouth turned up, softening his stone features so she found herself smiling in response. “I hate to remind you, but you’re the ones in my house.”

Sexy Saturday Blog Hop & Excerpt from Vampire Princess of New York
In Vampire Princess of New York, King Max’s daughter Noblesse has to choose between two men. Both profess to love her. Both are hiding secrets. One wants to love her forever and one wants to destroy her. For the Sexy Saturday Blog Hop Excerpt, I decided on this scene between Noblesse and Donovan Dupre. The more mature and very human Cajun with the Harley is Louisiana sex on a stick. This is limited to 7 words, 7 sentences or 7 paragraphs. They are in Noblesse’s bed.
*
“Donovan, please, we can’t go just yet.” She gently drew him toward her. “I want to do an experiment of sorts. I was wondering if . . .”
Before she could answer, Donovan possessed her lips. He was strong for a human. His firm passionate kiss left her quivering all over, wanting more. Heat spread throughout her every part. She rubbed against him. He moaned, pulling her closer, becoming her blanket and enveloping her with his delicious fire.
Instead of ending the kiss, he lingered with small nibbles at her mouth. Coaxing her lips apart with his tongue, demanding entrance, Donovan did the unspeakable. He stroked her fangs with his tongue.
Noble whimpered into his mouth and writhed beneath him. No man ever made her feel this way. She ran her fingers through his thick salt and pepper hair framing his handsome features. He closed his eyes when he kissed. She closed hers and found every sensation intensified.
Her body ached for him, only him. In short gasps, she whispered, “Donovan, I need you. I wanted you when we danced at Max and Evie’s wedding, and I want you now.”
Carefully he lifted himself up and off and lay by her side, stroking her cheek. “Ma chérie, I think we both know the results of this experiment, and we can’t let it go further.”
Noblesse opened her eyes. Frustration stung in uncomfortable places throughout her body. “Why not? We know how we feel about each other. That’s why when I’m upset I call to your mind. I know I’m safe in your arms. It’s more than a need. The bond between us runs deep. Don’t deny what you feel, Donovan. Our emotions are entangled, hot and wild.”

Back to Normalcy by Stacy Hoff
I’m still recovering from a pretty busy (and fun) winter break. My family and I traveled, saw family, and celebrated. We’ve barely managed to put away the luggage and stock the fridge. But I did get in a few loads of laundry.
We’re slowly easing back into our regular life. It’s both good and bad to get back on a schedule.
Bad: I’ll miss the excursions, and the chance to see family members we haven’t seen in quite some time.
Good: Now that I’ve head a mental break, I can get back to my writing obligations. I’ve got a ton of new projects I’m working on, including the release of a new series which will premier this March.
Resuming a normal schedule will allow me to mentally carve out when, where, and how often, my wiriting time should be. Without this plan in place, my author’s schedule will be doomed. And that is NOT something I want to accomplish in 2017.
I’m giving myself another week to catch up, and let normalcy take hold. Then’s it back o writing work. ‘Cause my books don’t write themselves.
Are you back in wiritng mode?

When the Door Closes, Cut Out a Window by Heather Novak
Hello Nights of Passion!
I’m typing this blog post with TWO HANDS! That’s right, my wrist is finally out of the brace and I am able to use it for a few hours at a time. Whew.
So, let’s get real. I have just been hit with a bunch of rejection letters. I know, I know, it’s part of the process. Doesn’t make it suck any less to know that. What does make it suck less is my awesome support system, which includes my sis-in-law’s baking, my (slightly terrified at my diva meltdown) husband, and my fellow romance writers. After a banner week of one hit after another, I stopped looking at the news, and I got my mopey butt down to my friend’s book signing (romantic suspense author Elizabeth Heiter).
It was glorious to celebrate with her and spend time with my tribe!
[image error]We talked about what the heck I was going to do with this book that was getting a lot of attention but no offers. The book is Young Adult, but could be made New Adult. Should I do that and indie-publish? Should I sell directly to publishers? Should I do another edit? Should I do another huge agent round? My head was spinning.
With the help of my writer friends, I made a plan. First step, get a professional critique/participate in a critique workshop. Next, participate in all the live-pitch events I can get my hands on. (Jumping past the slush piles is always a plus.) Finally, write my fingers off.
Like all passionate plans, things started clicking into place.
Monday, my friend sent me the link to the Michigan Writers Workshop in Novi, MI on March 25th. There will be agents and editors to pitch to, along with workshops on how to polish your craft. It’s within driving distance of me, so I signed up immediately and will be pitching to a handful of agents.
I’ve workshopped my pitch twice and I’ve gotten professional feedback. I also have it memorized. My query letter is written, my synopsis is done, I’m on deck for a critique, and I’m ready for this. I’m cutting my own window out of this room that I felt trapped in only a few days ago.
I even wrote a few hours on a book I had set aside months ago. I’ve discovered the single most important thing in getting your energy up to write is hope. Hope is what keeps the words flowing. If current events are breaking your heart, take a few days away from the news and even social media so you can refocus. We need HEA’s more than ever.
When your writing gets tough, bite back.
Love,
H

Why Matters
I’ve come to a conclusion. For us to truly be motivated to do anything, we must have a reason why we do it. And not simply any reason why but a meaningful and valid reason why. Out with the superficial reasons!
I know I’ve mentioned Simon Sinek a time or two and I still maintain his Ted Talks and books are great as you look to explore that deeper meaning behind the importance of why. Even more than the business sense though is the bigger thought of what drives each of us and why?
Why do you work? Are you passionate about what you do? Are you striving to take care of your family? Or are you really just looking for a paycheck so you don’t have to rely on others as much. Depending on our motivations and how important they are to each of us, there can be differing degrees as to how much they motivate us. For instance, if the person last example I mentioned really doesn’t mind being supported by parents and friends indefinitely, they probably won’t be too motivated to change their situation. On the other hand, if that same person can’t stand feeling like a charity case, they might really up the efforts on searching out a job.
My moral of the blog this week? Think about what you are working towards and why? Is it a struggle to work towards your goals and if so, have you thought about why and whether you are pushing forward for the right reasons? In other words, find your why.
Happy writing this week!

Snowy Birthday Paranormal-Scope
Snow. Outages. Birthday cake. All’s well that ends well. Perhaps it’s wise to hold onto that last part. Though having birthday cake is not a bad idea either.
While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.
The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

Why Saving ‘Good Girls Revolt’ Will Change Everything by Heather Novak
We need to save Good Girls Revolt. “Needing” a television show may seem silly, but trust me. This isn’t a want or some casual feeling. This is a need.
Why? What is this show even about? Heather, slow your roll!
Okay, here’s the deal – Good Girls Revolt follows a group of young female researchers at “News of the Week” (modeled after Newsweek) in the revolutionary times of 1969. Based on the true story of how women sued the magazine for the right to be reporters.
Watch this trailer. Right now.
Good Girls Revolt is an Amazon Prime Streaming show, meaning if you have Amazon Prime, you can stream all 10 episodes of season 1 for free. You can also find them on YouTube, if you’re lucky.
[image error]This show fully taps into an audience that most other television shows have not been able to achieve – intelligent women who have strong female friendships and long to be viewed as more than a best friend/neighbor/girlfriend.
Too many times I stop watching a show because of the following:
– Women can’t seem to have other female friends without competition or jealousy
– Women are only a 2D love interest
– Women can only talk about men
– Women aren’t good at their jobs
– Women are terrible journalists (et tu, Amy Sherman Palladino???)
– Women are portrayed as intellectual and interesting as cardboard cut outs
We can go on and on.
Good Girls Revolt, first and foremost to the viewers, is very pretty. Great script, great camera work, smooth editing, good sound quality, good lighting (although sometimes there’s a weird flicker, but we’ll forgive that). The actors, set, wardrobe, and music are absolutely fantastic. The show opens in 1969 with sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll – a very good combination.
But this show goes deeper and hits harder than expected. Obviously, this show tackles sexism, but it does it in a unique way. We are not just witnesses, but we experience what the characters are going through in their lives and how it’s all part of the bigger issue.
It talks about racism. It talks about media sensationalism. It talks about birth control. It talks about career girls. It talks about family balance. It talks about our history, which is so eerily similar to our present day.
It talks about all the things that are being silenced a little more each day. One thing this show proves is that we still have a long way to go, because it feels way too real.
The other thing that makes this show special is the way the female characters interact with each other. They portray true friendships, in both the loud moments when they’re standing up for each other, and the quiet moments with a single touch on the arm or a look across the room.
So if the show is so great, why was it canceled?
35 days after the series premiered with double the ratings of several renewed shows, an 80% completion rate, 4.5 stars, and the highest female audience of a streaming show, an all male committee decided to cancel the show because “they couldn’t connect with the storyline.”
I’m going to pause here so you can let that sink in.
An all male committee canceled a show about fighting for women’s rights because they couldn’t connect…
Seriously.
This is 2017.
We know that making enough noise makes a difference. We NEED a show that tackles the hard hitting, uncomfortable subjects. We NEED a show that deal with the troops coming home from war, a show that deals with rampant sexism, racism, and has an open dialogue about sex! We NEED a show that keeps us on the edge of our seats.
WE NEED WOMEN WRITERS AND WOMEN ACTORS AND WOMEN STORIES. By saving this show, we will open the door for other shows with silenced voices that need to be heard. On the marketing side, there’s a demand and there’s money to be made. The network that finally gets this right is going to do very well.
(Also, I REALLY NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT TO THESE CHARACTERS! *spins in chair, frantically waving arms*. And I have a bit of a crush on every girl in the show. True story.)
What can you do to save this show?
1) Tweet/Facebook/Share that you want to #SaveGoodGirlsRevolt
2) Talk it up to your friends. Get them to watch it!
3) WRITE LETTERS! Write to Amazon and demand a season 2. Write to Hulu and Netflix and demand that they pick up the show.
4) Sign the petition.
5) Follow the cast
It’s time to take up the fight, one TV show at a time.
Revolt, my friends.
On this day in 1925 – Nellie Tayloe Ross of Wyoming becomes the first female governor in the United States. She later became the first woman to become director of the US Mint.
