Eenie, Meanie, Miney and Mo
I lost the last of my canaries last night/this morning. Little Eenie was dead on the bottom of the cage. It is so sweet how most pet birdies go – with little fanfare and no violence – we just quietly find them at the bottom of their cages – hopefully well into a good life. My cage birds are all very long-lived - Eenie was about 8 – I have a 15-year-old Budgie and a 30-year-old lovebird!
Bird Abuse at my house!
While I like to rescue, not buy any pets, sometimes I feel like I am ‘rescuing’ by buying birds. This I did at a Florida Bird Mart – 2 little canaries who just looked like they needed me. I named them Lucy and Desi – both red factor canaries and boy could he sing!
Lucy nesting in seed dish!
Lucy and Desi were determined to reproduce so I gave them a nest. Our first clutch had 4 eggs. Now I know in my heart you are not supposed to count your chickens before they hatch, but I named the eggs, nonetheless. They were Eenie, Meanie, Miney and Mo. Eenie and Meany hatched. Miney failed to develop in the egg and there was no Mo – unfertilized egg, apparently!
Canary flight in Floridia!
My ‘boys’ gave me many years of joy – they sang beautifully, and everyone knows that only male canaries sing. WRONG! This year Eenie produced a single egg – and at the end of her life – so strange!
RIP little Eenie. You were well-loved. Empty cage syndrome is likely to hit Mama soon and another little canary may grace our sun/birdroom.

Starting the 3rd Year Celebration Early!
Reblogged from Dogs for the PAWS:
The other day I was chatting with my Mom about all that has happened since our lunch we had 3 years ago when I announced my plan to paint 100 dogs in 100 days! I was sure I could do this even though I laughed when my Mom’s mouth dropped open in shock! We had just met for lunch and I had been playing around with the idea of DFP just not sure how or when I could do it.
HA! You are getting a weekend post from me! Re-blogging the great story of Missy's Journey to start something special for Rescued Dogs!!!
