From Duffy To The Rescue

Do Your Ears Hang Low?

Do your ears hang low?

Do they drag upon the floor?

Best Seller!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/books/10459/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_b_1_4_last

We may have dropped to #9 (as of this posting) but have been as high as #6 this week.  It is ridiculously exciting for me to have been a part of this production to benefit Basset Rescue. It is also just a little fun to see my name on the front of a book that is in any way connected to the words Best and Sellers!!!  I think if you click on the above link you will get the current ranking of Duffy To The Rescue – hope we are still in the top 10!

I still have some print copies available, as well, should anyone want one.  Just comment and I can get you one!  $15 each – $10 of which goes to Basset Rescue of Old Dominion.

Reading and writing have rocked my world for many years.  It does my old heart good to have folk read what I write!

Lots of Words on Thursday!

So I went to the Snow Branch of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library today to return Lincoln Child’s THE THIRD GATE (not his best) and pick up Lisa Unger’s HEARTBROKEN (hopefully her best).  To my horror I could not find a parking place!  Had to park a mile away – ok – just a block away – and walk in the stifling heat – ok – the 88 or so degree weather.

As I trudged my way across the parking lot to the library, cursing under my breath, I realized I could not park because every space was full.   The handicapped places were full and proper placards hung from the rear view mirrors.  The rest were all full of mommy vans with car seats and ‘Baby On Board’ signs, old clunkers covered with bumper stickers like ‘Don’t Judge a Book By Its Movie’ and a scattering of BMWs, Mercedes and Volkswagons.  There were LOTS of people at the library!  Now I gotta have faith that they were not all checking out movies or vegging out in the air conditioning.  These people were there for BOOKS.

YES!  Reading is good!  I picked up my step and pranced on in, sweating and smiling, did my library business and walked the miles in the snow back to my car.  I mean, through the full parking lot in the bright sunshine to the neighboring carpark.

Funny what a little different perspective can do for your whole day, huh?  Is the parking lot half full or half empty?  Is the walk a drudgery or good exercise?  People are reading, yeah.  The world has yet to totally go to hell in a handbasket in my book!

Get Er Dunn

My friend, Tom Schreck, has a new book out today.  All the reviews re-tell the story.  What I want to say is READ IT!  I read it before it hit the market – made some corrections and suggestions and thank DoG was not remembered as one of the strippers.  Another friend of ours ended up lending her name to the female villain - beware of Jen Forbus!

Tom sent a review copy. We got a little silly.

It is called Getting Dunn.  Available at Amazon.com.  I might even have an extra copy to share.  Convince me to do it and I may send it to you!  You have to promise to write a nice review for Mr. Schreck, however!  Here is my review from Amazon:

Schreck has reached beyond his Duffy and Al books to bring us Getting Dunn. Although our old favorite characters of Tom’s make an appearance in Getting Dunn, we have a new heroine in TJ. Back from a combat tour, TJ copes with her personal demons, some Post Traumatic Stress and her healing body and psyche.

It takes some kind of courage to branch out from a popular, well received series to introduce a whole new world to readers and Tom has that courage. The fact that these two literary worlds briefly touch leaves the reader excited for the possibility of more stories to come with romantic or dramatic interactions between TJ’s world and Duffy’s.

Keep writing and we will keep reading! With Las Vegas Knock Out and Getting Dunn coming out this summer, Schreck’s fans have two great reads in a row!

Check out Tom’s blog at wordpress for excerpts from his books, including Duffy To The Rescue which we wrote together to benefit Basset Rescue!  http://tomschreck.wordpress.com/

Old Guys Rule

Slower step, grey face

cloudy eyes.  My good old dog -

your heart ever young.

from DOGKU

Just stuck old Duffy Doodlebug in the tub.  He is losing muscle mass and a bit of weight.  There is a marked physical difference between him and the younger guys.  He has been with us 7 years now and just turned 12.  Cannot believe how the years have gone by.  I remember adopting his funny 5-year-old self so well.  So glad to have made his last 7 years happy ones.  Wish we had 7 more with him.  Although he just had a good annual check up, these guys leave us way to soon.  Every single one of them.  Even Charles who we had til almost age 16.  Sigh.  Dog lifespan – the only thing I would correct (read, extend) if I had the power!

KIDKU

Two teachers just spent a week here with 4 of their 6 children. It was fun.  No one watched TV.  Books were read and museums were visited.  There was kayaking.  There was lots of loving on dogs and wondering at nature.

So – I think my next book may be KIDKU.  Kids can read haiku and I am quite sure they can write it too.

Haiku is cool cuz

you got seventeen beats to

say something special.

Think we can do this?  Send me your haiku and pictures to my4hounds@hotmail.com or post them here as comments.  Only one rule.  You cannot be older than 12!
