Beef Stew with Mushrooms

TPW_7869Did you hear the one about the mushroom that walked into the bar? Yeah. The bartender looks at him and says, "We don't serve your kind here."

And the mushroom looks at the bartender and says, "Why not? I'm a fun guy!"

Man, do I ever love that joke.

And man, do I ever love this stew, which is chock full of another thing I love: mushrooms, baby. Mushrooms.

TPW_7670Start with stew meat, usually sirloin, and usually sold already cut into cubes and labeled "Stew Meat."

I love it when life just makes...

Quick Recipe: Leftover Turkey Pot Pie

potpie2I'll try to post step-by-step photos later if I can wade through my mountain of laundry and the chocolate pie I dropped—the one that's currently shellacked to my kitchen floor. It's a beautiful sight.

But I realize your turkey leftovers may be dwindling, so here's the recipe for my delicious pot pie. You can make it with chicken or turkey…whatever's in your fridge. You may even have leftover onion and celery from the Thanksgiving stuffing—even better!

Here you go:

The Griddler

Happy Black Monday! I'm making a leftover turkey pot pie, a big batch of Christmas cookies, and about 300 pans of cinnamon rolls, for which I will eventually have to go to confession. And I'm not even Catholic.

griddlersmallToday, to celebrate Black Friday, I'm giving away five (5) Cuisinart Griddlers—a wonderfully nifty appliance that can fry bacon, sausage, or hamburgers…or cook pancakes or panini till the cows come home. Keep it for yourself or give it to your favorite relative for...

Pumpkin Leche Flan

pumpkin leche flan half Please welcome my good friend Ivoryhut, occasional contributor to PW Photography and all-around perfect person in my eyes. I love her…and I love her pumpkin leche flan. How delicious does this look? Thank you, Ivoryhut!

We don't really celebrate Thanksgiving in the Philippines, but then again, there's no shortage of excuses reasons to cook up up a storm and invite the entire village over to eat. All day. We don't even specify the meal and invite people over for "brunch" or "lunch" or...

Quick and Easy: Crispy Chocolate Almond Sticks

TPW_7971These surprisingly yummy little numbers were inspired by a care package of candies and treats recently sent to me by my friend Cindy of Asian Aisle, who keeps me in Hi-Chews and other candies and treats from Asian countries. I'm completely addicted.

(By the way, have you ever eaten a Hi-Chew? You'd never eat a "certain square fruit chew" again. They're to die for.)

Anyway, I would have taken photos of the prepackaged yummy chocolate-almond treats that inspired today's recipe…but they're...
