The Apotheosis has come at last, and it will shatter the world.

CAINA is trapped in the ruins of an ancient necromancer’s tomb. Unless she escapes the lethal trap, there will be no one to stop Grand Master Callatas from unleashing the Apotheosis.

KYLON is desperate to save Caina’s life. The deadly Red Huntress is coming for Caina, and only by the sacrifice of his own life can Kylon save Caina from the Huntress’s blade.

Or the Red Huntress might simply kill them both.

CALLATAS is ready to call the Apotheosis and create a new humanity to replace the old.

Of course, the old humanity will have to die first…every last man, woman, and child.

And he will start with Caina Amalas.

Genre of the Ghosts

One of the things I enjoyed about writing (and continuing to write) the GHOSTS books is that they kind of change genres from time to time.

Like (in my opinion), CHILD OF THE GHOSTS was a coming of age story. GHOST IN THE FLAMES and GHOST IN THE COWL were both more like mysteries. GHOST IN THE MAZE was a heist novel. GHOST IN THE HUNT, GHOST IN THE STORM, and GHOST IN THE INFERNO were more like thrillers. GHOST IN THE SEAL was a romance novel, and the last three of GHOST EXILE go right into epic fantasy.

But, as ever, the writer’s opinion often has absolutely no bearing on what the readers think of the book.

the end of GHOST EXILE

GHOST IN THE WINDS is almost ready, and I confess to excitement.

It’s been three years and nine books, and over a million words written (if you include the twelve short stories). I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the series – on the treadmill, while driving, while walking, and when actually sitting down to work on it.

After all that, we are about to come to the end of GHOST EXILE at last. It is a peculiar feeling, but a good one. I am fortunate. Not every writer gets to experience that!

It’s been quite a journey. Thanks for coming along to the end!

GHOST IN THE WINDS length & table of contents

Let’s have a look at the table of contents from GHOST IN THE WINDS!

GhostInTheWindsTOC

It looks like GHOST IN THE WINDS will weigh in at 5878 Kindle locations long. On the Nook it will come to 314 pages long on Nook. Kobo calculates pages a little differently, but I think it will be around 400 pages on Kobo.

Google Play and iBooks page count is based on the screen size of your Android or iOS device.

Kobo Writing Life

KoboJuly

This is a really good post about the nuts and bolts of publishing with Kobo Writing Life.

I’ve had an excellent experience with KWL over the last four years. In that time, for me Kobo has gone from an afterthought to one of my main markets. In 2014, Kobo was 1.9% of my book sales, but in 2015, it had risen to 10%. (As of the end of July, Kobo is 7.6% percent of my 2016 sales, but that is because I’ve been fortunate enough to have increased sales on all platforms, not just Kobo.)

Anyway, if you are self-publishing, you definitely should give KWL a try, and not just go exclusive with Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.

Google Play vs. Apple iBooks

In July, I sold ten times as many books on Google Play than I did on Apple iBooks, and more on Kobo than either Barnes & Noble or Apple.

I have to admit that is a sentence I never thought I would write.

Spiders vs. Moths

A while back we discussed which made for a creepier monster – giant spiders or giant moths.

Today I edited a chapter of GHOST IN THE WINDS, and then looked at the outline for MASK OF SPELLS. I’ve been chipping away at MASK OF SPELLS since June (a couple hundred words here and there) and I’ve finally gotten to Chapter 5 of 20.

And as I looked at the outline, I had a realization. The MASK OF THE DEMONSOULED trilogy has giant spiders…but there’s no reason that MASK OF SPELLS can’t have giant moths as well. In fact, there are several places in the book where they would fit perfectly.

So I am proud to announce that MASK OF SPELLS shall have the best of both worlds – giant spiders and giant moths! Mazael’s going to be busy.

Mazael Cravenlock, Lord of Caerlaverock?

Caerlaverock_Castle_from_the_air

Longtime readers know that Mazael Cravenlock, the protagonist of the DEMONSOULED series, is from Castle Cravenlock in the Grim Marches.

Alert reader Marta informed me that there is actually a Caerlaverock Castle located near Dumfries in Scotland.

I had no idea! It is a neat looking castle, and has a long and frequently bloody history.

Mazael would be right at home.
