FROSTBORN: THE BROKEN MAGE now in paperback

I’m pleased to report that FROSTBORN: THE BROKEN MAGE is now available in paperback. I have a special place in my heart in this book, since it’s one big dungeon crawl, and I love dungeon crawls. Someday I might write a short book series that’s entirely a dungeon crawl, but meanwhile, you can get FROSTBORN: THE BROKEN MAGE in paperback at the links below:

FROSTBORN: THE BROKEN MAGE ISBN-10: 1534986359 / ISBN-13: 978-1534986350

Available at Amazon US, Amazon UK, Barnes & Noble, and CreateSpace.

GHOST IN THE WINDS – chapter 30 of 33

Now on Chapter 30 of 33 of GHOST IN THE WINDS. Three chapters and an epilogue left to go!

I’m not really one for writing in coffee shops, but yesterday I had to drive out of the state for an appointment, and I wrote 4,000 words in two hours while waiting in a coffee shop. Not bad!

I also got to write a scene I initially plotted out back when I was writing GHOST IN THE MASK in 2013, so it was enjoyable to finally reach that scene after thinking it up so long ago.

This week’s writing goal: get to 130k words by the end of Friday.

Google Play fun facts

I did some math, and in July 2016 I sold books in 30 different countries via Google Play.

The US did the lion’s share at 62% of the total books sold.

Of the rest of the (primarily) English-speaking questions, Australia did the best at 12%, and then the UK at 8.4% and Canada at 6%.

The remaining twelve percent was divided up between the rest of the world. In the Eurozone, the Netherlands was the best-selling country. In Africa, it was South Africa (which was also the only African country that bought any books), and in Asia, it was India.

Objectively speaking, we’re not dealing with that many books, so it’s hard to draw conclusions. Nonetheless, it is fair to say that English-language ebooks will have their best markets in the US, the UK, Australia, and Canada.

GHOST IN THE WINDS – 105k words!

My goal was to reach 100,000 words of GHOST IN THE WINDS by yesterday night, and I’m pleased to report that I actually got to 105,000.

Still not done, but I’m definitely entering the home stretch of the book.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

I wasn’t going to read HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD, but someone loaned me their copy, so why not read it?

Obviously, it’s not an actual novel, but a script of a play (though from the way the publisher marketed it, you would never guess it). That said, it’s a pretty good story. I once heard it said that the best Young Adult fiction is about either 1.) children dealing with the absence of parents, and 2.) children coming to terms with their parents, and the script does both entertainingly.

It must have been a hideously expensive play to produce – all those special effects, and all those quick scene changes!

That said, I do think it’s something of a missed opportunity. Instead of a play script, it should have been adapted into a trilogy of books. It has exactly the right structure for a trilogy, and it would have made a mint.

So, a good story, just be aware it is a play script, and not a novel.

GHOST IN THE WINDS progress update

Now on chapter 24 of 33 of GHOST IN THE WINDS.

There were originally 34 chapters in the outline, but I decided that two of the chapters didn’t stand alone well, so I folded them together.

why write?

I like this article from Joanna Penn answering the question “Why write? There are too many books in the world!”

Of course, when people ask me that question, the answer often rhymes with “duck off”, but sometimes it’s best to be polite.

one month of FROSTBORN: THE FALSE KING

LCurve

For the writers among you, the chart is what one month of FROSTBORN: THE FALSE KING looks like on Amazon.

Interestingly, the graphs for my new books usually have sort of an L-curve shape to them – this is the first time I’ve had a new book with a big spike in sales a week or so after the release.

GHOST IN THE WINDS progress update

Now on Chapter 21 of 34.

In the very first chapter of the first book of GHOST EXILE, one of the wraithblood addicts panics when he sees a shadow around Caina, a shadow that only wraithblood addicts can see.

Today, I wrote the scene where Caina finds out just what that shadow is.
