First and Last Post of 2015

Hey all,

First off, Happy New Year and a big thanks to everyone who has supported me and my work. It means the world to me, and I truly appreciate it.

I will be letting this site expire as it is no longer relevant. I might eventually start another blog for my own work, but for now my priority is to focus on writing books. I’m much better at creating than talking about creating, and I don’t update the blog as often as I should. In the coming year, my books in the Blessed Epoch series will be rer...

I sold my first YA!

Cat-and-fox-are-best-friends-in-Van-Lake-Turkey-1

I just signed the contract for my first YA! Fox-Hat and Neko is a 132K contemporary fantasy, non-romance. I announced a while back that I think I’m going to move away from writing romance (which some have argued I never REALLY wrote anyway, LOL) and focus more on fantasy, so it’s good to see there’s still a market for work without romance in it.

Fox-Hat and Neko will be published by the YA imprint of Dreamspinner Press, Harmony Ink, in May or June of next year.

Here’s an unedited excerpt:

Rereleases and Why I Changed My Name

Gus here. What follows will be a long post and may contain more personal information than you care to read. You have been warned.

BootsfortheGentleman_postcard_front_DSP

Some readers might notice that my latest release, Wine and Roses, is published under the name “August Li” rather than “Augusta Li” like my previous books. In the coming months, all of my Dreamspinner Press books will be updated to my new name. I thought it prudent to explain the reason for this change before any rumors have a chance to start.

I have always identified...

The Pilgrimage, Sixth Stop: Obrov

Thanks so much, Gus, for letting me visit here today! This is the sixth stop on my blog tour to discuss my new novel, Pilgrimage. And since my characters, Mike and Goran, spend the book on a pilgrimage, I thought it would be fun for us to follow along.

Having been zapped to an alternate universe, Mike must visit a series of shrines to a death god. The fourth shrine he visits is near the cliff-side city of Obrov, in a location where twelve youths were once burie...

Tattoos and the Blessed Epoch

I’m a big fan of tattoos, and I have tons of them myself. Still, they ended up taking on a much larger role in the Blessed Epoch series than I originally intended. I think there’s meaning in this and that my subconscious mind knew exactly what it was doing.

When I set out to construct a world where an epic fantasy could take place, I knew I wanted to populate it with races other than human. I wanted different societies for color and the cultural contrasts they would provide. I also knew I didn...
