The End Means the Real Writing Begins

Let me tell you a story about persistance. No, don't leave, it's interesting and funny even. At least, I can make it funny if you'd just stay...that's better. So, there was this story I started earlier this year. It was a great story that I'd outlined and spent considerable time plotting and building before I even started the first sentence. This usually works for me, and things were rolling really well until oh, about June-ish. The story completely stalled. Writing a handful of words seemed...

Your Pile O'Crap Might be a Pile O'Genius

Another blog post? My goodness, I'm on a roll. Not really, I'm mostly procrastinating. I wrote three chapters yesterday and quite frankly, I'm afraid to dig back into it because I know my kids need to go school shopping, and the laundry needs washing, the floors need vacuuming, and if I start writing…none of that will get done.

I want to discuss old writing. You know what I mean, right? The manuscripts (mostly unfinished) that we stuff away into drawers, or jam into files labelled "pile o'c...

It's Getting a Little Dark in Here, eh?

Enough of this poor me bullshit. I like a happy blog and a happy blog I will have. So, first things first: The contest was a flop. Bad for you. Why? Because I win the prize, not you. I'm going to Chapters tomorrow and I'm buying myself a new book. Yes, I'm sticking my tongue out at you and all of that immature stuff.

Instead of a rant, I'm going to share my gift of humor. Didn't you know I was a funny girl? No? Well, you're in for a treat. I am hysterical. Mad skills, this girl.

Anyway, h...

Professional?

This week I had an interesting experience. I've been querying agents for two projects, determined that one of them will capture someone's attention. If not, well that's okay, I've got more coming down the production line. The interesting experience however, was that I queried an agent, at a large very 'prestigious' agency and ten minutes later (I am not kidding, it was literally about ten minutes) I had my form rejection. What I find interesting about that is that the query in question would ...

A Dose of Reality

So, the romance contest it officially sliding down the tube into...failure. Meh. That's okay. I'll give the prize to me. I can use a new book.

In other writing news, I've noticed that self publishing is on the upswing again. Several blogs I follow and writing groups I participate in show many jumping on the 'fuck traditional publishing' bandwagon. Sorry about the f-bomb, but it's pretty much the attitude out in the writing world at the moment.

This makes me sad in some ways. First, let me...

A Little Romance?

So, in an effort to be more regular with this blogging thing and knowing how bored I get reading blogs that update frequently but don't have anything new to day, I'm going to try to mix things up and post at least twice a week. Rather than talk about me, me, me (although I know you are fascinated by everything Renee) I'm going to toss in something fun now and then. Remember the last contest? I believe some people won a gift card for Amazon and others won books...

Well, here's another contest...

Drumroll Please...

I have a schedule!! Me! A schedule...that is working. I'm so excited and proud of myself I don't even know what to do. In case you're wondering, that's me as Wonderwoman, to the left...well it could be me. Shut up.

I am writing articles, reviews, cleaning house, making meals, editing, writing, AND showering daily. Can you believe it? Man, neither can I. Some things aren't seeing a lot of progress, but they aren't standing still either. Which was my biggest issue all along. If I worked on one...

Wordy Flashbacking But Well Plotted Stories

Le sigh...Did that sound pathetic? Such a drama queen, aren't I. I don't feel pathetic, just a little tired and actually quite proud of where I'm at today...even if that includes tired.

I should explain. Right now I'm editing/rewriting a manuscript I finished way the heck back in early 2009. Took me long enough to get around to it, eh? Well, the problem is that after I finished, had a few generous souls read it, and tackled the long arduous process of editing based on their feedback, I reali...

Fiona, The Cat Torturing Man Stuck Forever On Tuesday

Remember the Blog Hop? No? Well, I almost forgot about it too. Here's the story all you wonderful bloggers came up with as a result of the Writer's Blog Hop.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fiona wasn't an attractive man, which only makes it more sad that his parents labelled him with such an unfortunate name. Fiona wasn't nice either. Once, when Fiona was a young boy, he burned all the whiskers off the family cat, along with the poor beast...

What I'm Doing...and Jack Handey Day

I noticed that I blabber on and on about writing and publishing and how I'm soooo busy, but I never actually show any writing. Well, part of that is I don't like posting too much online until it's finished and all that. But I'll show you a couple of the finished, or close to finished projects I've got kicking around, just so you know I'm not pulling your chain about this writer thing. Or it might backfire and you'll read it and think, "Uh, yeah. Don't quit your dayjob." Too late.

So, I'm goi...
