Sex Offender Pleads Guilty to Rape and Murder of Two Teenagers
There are two families in California who, while they likely will never fully recover from losing their daughters to violent crime, may hopefully find some peace knowing that the man who committed these acts will live out his days behind bars.In exchange for removing the possibility of the death penalty, convicted sex offender John Albert Gardner III admitted to the rapes and murders of teenagers Chelsea King and Amber Dubois. He also pled guilty to the attempted rape of a third young woman. ...

What Does Forensic Science, Charles Manson, and a Black Labrador Retriever All Have in Common?
No, this isn't the silly punch line for a joke and it's not just my three favorite things either. I found a very interesting article that immediately captured my interest about three things that I study on a regular basis.Undisputed, Labrador retrievers are one of my favorite dog breeds. It's not a secret that I share my life with this intelligent, energetic type of canine. Labs are trained in assistance, police work, and are loyal family dogs. I was intrigued about a black Labrador that had ...

Young Girl Found Safe after Four Days in Florida Swamp Land
When you spend your days researching the worst criminal minds in our society and focus your writing on the twisted acts of serial killers, it is nice to write about a story with a happy ending once in a while.Eleven-year-old Nadia Bloom went missing from her Florida home last Friday after she decided to go on a nature walk. Professional rescue teams and volunteers from the community scoured the swampy area, which is a popular habitat for alligators, both day and night for four days. Although ...

How the Intriguing World of Crime Scene Investigation & Police Forensics Began For Me
It's interesting how we can look back in our lives and see things more clearly today, but at the time you didn't have a clue about what everything really meant back then. I've always had an interest in the life of police officer, even when I was a young teen. It didn't really click in my creative mind that certain movies and television shows had made a lasting impact on me and in a small way help guide me to my true interest in life.I remember when the first season of Cagney & Lacy aired in t...

I hope to get some responses from you!In my new Emily Stone novel, " Dead Game ", the serial killer who brings his terror to the pages of the book finds his victims through an online world. Personal Correspondence of Casey Anthony Offers Insights for Forensics
Forensic psychologists are able to look at the smallest details and usually make some accurate assertions about the minds they are studying. The inflection in a voice, the nervous twitching of fingers, the obsession with one particular object or memory—all of the pieces can be used to pull together a profile of the mindset of an accused criminal. Another great insight for these trained professionals is the personal correspondence that an inmate writes when stuck in a cell all day long. The th...

Early Innovators of Forensic Science
I find everything about the science of forensics to be extremely interesting and thought provocative. I can't seem to shake my curious mind about how and why the various crime scene puzzles interlock and ultimately reveal the identity of the criminal. Descriptions like "CSI" and "criminal profiling" are the words that are commonplace in our language today.
What was the inspiration and scientific premise to our modern day crime scene investigation?
The modern technology today has definitely infl...

An Emily Stone Novel
Over the years I have developed many theories about books. One of those theories involves what I call 'the hook'. It is generally something that occurs in the first 20 or so pages, it is often just a single paragraph, it has a single function, it 'hooks' the reader into the book. If You do not 'hook' the reader in a few pages, most will give up and move on to m...

Link between Jeffrey Dahmer and Adam Walsh Re-Examined
Is it possible to be an effective witness for a crime that took place nearly thirty years ago? Maybe, in some instances, the events you saw were so horrific that the sights and sounds associated with that moment stay clear in your mind forever. However, more often than not I imagine any defense attorney who has passed the bar will bring into question the accuracy of such old memories. Two new witnesses claim that they saw convicted (and then bludgeoned to death by other inmates) serial killer ...

My Way of Boosting Creativity for Writing Thriller Novels
Writing is tough work, but at the same time it's a bug that I can't seem to shake. I can't imagine my life without it even with all of its challenges. I carefully budget my time for writing projects, clients, and studying crime trends. Sometimes it's a difficult life to balance and I find that I need to have some other creative outlets to calm and balance my mind.I haven't experienced the infamous and sometimes taboo condition of "writer's block", but I have experienced difficulty writing hig...
