Should Some Children be Labeled and Diagnosed a Psychopath?
Today it seems that we are so careful to be politically correct about some things that need to be addressed from a psychological and clinical point of view. The thought of a small child or a teenager being diagnosed as a psychopath leaves of us cold and most don't want to even approach the idea. I absolutely shudder at the thought too.But what's worse? The unpopular, politically incorrect label or allowing a child to wreak havoc and mayhem on everyone around them when it could have been...

Trudging Through the Gauntlet of Finishing a Novel
Patience, hard work, and a lot of humor has helped me to get through the editing process of
Silent Partner
, my third novel. That's not even taking into consideration the long days and weeks of writing the actual meat of the story. There's blood, sweat, and tears involved in that phase. And even further back on the project was the original idea, extensive outline, and research. I can honestly say that writing a novel is not for wimps. The best way I can describe how I feel as I'm going through...

FBI Notes Drop in Violent Crime for Third Straight Year
The posts on this blog often feature horrible crimes that are taking place in this country. I have covered the trials of serial killers , the abduction and murders of young women, and men and women whose thirst for violence is incomprehensible to most people. And, if you watch the evening news or some of the popular crime dramas that are on our televisions every night, you might start to think that crime is a constant and pervasive force in our country. However, the FBI revealed some statistic...

Sarge is Growing Up Fast!
If you blink
Sarge
seems to grow another inch or two. He's already taller and longer than my other older dog. Some mornings when I get up and let Sarge outside, he appears to have grown overnight! He's approaching six months old (next week) and weighs over sixty pounds.I'm working on some minor changes and edits that I received back from my editor for "Silent Partner". With my busy schedule, I've been taking breaks and enjoying Sarge's company whenever I can.

Interesting Forensic Facts – A to Z
There are so many terms that are used in forensic science and crime scene investigation. I wanted to share a few from time to time. Sometimes we hear these terms on television shows, whether they are a fictional series or a true crime show. Here are my seven interesting "B" facts.
Back Spatter
This is a type of bloodstain pattern that occurs when a person suffers a gunshot wound inflicted from a few inches or even less. Back spatter can also occur when a victim is struck with a forceful blow by ...

Can Movies Lead to Murder?
I have featured several blog posts about the fascination that our culture has with the criminal mind, and how this interest is played out through popular television shows and movies. The number of crime dramas on both network and cable stations seems to grow every season, and big-screen serial killers like Hannibal Lechter have become lasting faces in our entertainment culture. I know that I count myself among the devoted fans of shows like Law and Order: SVU and CSI. But, what about when peo...

Should Certain Books Be Banned From Schools and Libraries?
I may be a bit naïve when it comes to banning books because so many books have made an impact in my life and why I chose to be a writer, but I was shocked to find out that certain towns across the US have actually banned certain books from their libraries and schools. In some instances, they have actually burned these classics. There are a number of books that are constantly being challenged on a regular basis. In fact, there is a "Banned Books Week" coming up later this month.
You can find ou...
