Snow!

I live in Atlanta. I never REALLY snows here. Not like this. We got almost four inches yesterday!

Of course, today it's become a thick layer of ice. Only the crazies are out driving in it, and I'm very grateful I stocked up on diet coke and hot chocolate yesterday.

Live Show Time!

It's Tuesday! Which means it's live show day!
Tonight at 8pm EST I'll be doing a live show-- you can watch either here, on my blog, or over HERE if you want to participate in the chat (which is way more fun than just watching)! No registration is necessary to chat, just enter a nickname and go.
The chat IS moderated and PG rated. Just FYI.

The topic for tonight's chat is: YA Fantasy-- where it's been and where it's going.
The discussion will include, but isn't limited to (by any means) the follow...

Decorated War Veteran

Recently, I got a new car. Which means that I had to get a new license plate. I didn't want the plain old GA license plate, so I went through the DMV website until I found one with a picture I like--a purple daisy. On Thursday I trekked down to the ridiculously huge Atlanta courthouse to get my new plate.

In an overcrowded room packed with angry people:
Me: Hi, I just need to get a license plate for my new car. I want the purple daisy.
Lady: *looks at me* Um...I think you need additional paperwo...

Sports (the best ones, anyway)

So the Superbowl is this weekend, which means I'll be fast forwarding through the game in order to see the commercials, and/or watching the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. It's not that I don't like football, exactly. It's just that I don't care. At all.

I coach a high school colorguard and was IN a high school colorguard, which means that for the past eleven years I've been to at least four or five high school football games a year. Sometimes significantly more. I care so little about football t...

Books I Loved

Three books I worshipped when I was thirteen and under:

THE INDIAN IN THE CUPBOARD by Lynne Reid Banks

Oh my god, did I love this book. We read it in class, and then I read it outside of class again and again and again. I read three of the sequels--THE RETURN OF THE INDIAN, THE SECRET OF THE INDIAN, and THE MYSTERY OF THE CUPBOARD, although I didn't like the ending of THE MYSTERY OF THE CUPBOARD so I wrote my own and stuck it in the back pages.
I think I loved these because they were fantasy sto...

Names

It occurs to me that a lot of my character names come from weird, weird places. I thought I'd share!

AS YOU WISH
All of the characters' first names, with the exception of Jinn, are Shakespearean references. While I wouldn't call the story a Shakespeare retelling, it is heavily influenced by Shakespearean themes, and I wanted to pay tribute to that in the characters' names. All of the characters' last names are from my favorite musical. I wish there was a clever reason for this, but actually...I...

iPad or Kindle

I've been wanting an ereader for a while. Not so much to read books, but to read manuscripts. I would LOVE something that allowed to to read and make notes on a uploaded pdf or word file, so I could stop printing out big giant stacks of paper every time a draft of a manuscript is done.

And I like Apple. I've really loved my MacAir and iMac and iPhone. I can't stand the geniuses at the stores (OMG I DO NOT WANT ANY ACCESSORIES PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE), but am willing to forgive the company's love...
