Band Camp!
Whew, finally, band camp is over. Every year about May, I start dreading being out in the heat and the humidity for two weeks straight and every July it's inevitably not as bad as I thought it would be.
Anyhow, now that I'm back and blogging is re-commencing, there's a few announcements I must make!
1) Live Shows, which were on a three week hiatus, are scheduled to return tomorrow! 8-9pm EST, HERE. No topic tomorrow, but after that I'm going to aim for one topic a month, and the rest just chat-...

Things to celebrate
I'm in the middle of coaching band camp at the moment, so my updates might be a little sporadic this week. BUT I do have exciting things to share! Thing number one:
I was in the AJC! And I LOVE the article/review of it. You can read the article online HERE.
Thing number two: I'm working on SWEETLY copyedits. See? SHINY.
Thing number three: SISTERS RED has officially sold in Thailand! This means I get to eat Thai food to celebrate, right?

Non-negotiable
There are some things that, if you're writing to get published, are negotiable. Things that look like rules, but aren't really. For example:
1) Chapters: If you want to do parts instead of chapters, fine. If you want to have some long chapters and some short ones, whatever. Provide some nice break points via the ever-popular "#" symbol, and you're golden.
2) Characters: Want one? Two? Three? Eleven? Ninety-five. Whatever. You can have as many or as few as you want, so long as it works for your ...

That Damn (Secret) Historical Novel
I am totally, 100 percent incapable of writing a book and never mentioning it anywhere. I hear other writers talking about how they quietly worked on a book, never talking about it on their blog or twitter or facebook or wherever and...wow. I am amazed. Because I cannot keep my mouth shut when I'm excited about a project.
That said, while writing a few other books last year, I started to notice that the more I talked about them online, the more I got feedback from blog readers and friends. And...

A Love Letter to Deadliest Catch
So if you follow me on twitter at all, you know that I have a deep, intense love affair with but one tv show: Deadliest Catch.
I mean, seriously. I love this show. I love everything about it. I love waiting to see if there will be crab in the pots. I love seeing which boat is catching the most. I love seeing which greenhorns will make it through the season and what pearls of wisdom hemmed in curse words the seasoned crew members will spout. Add the fact that the entire show takes place on the ...

Ethics + Trends = C-
When I was a freshman in college I took an ethics course. I really enjoyed it (and it was a gateway to me taking philosophy courses) but it was one of those required core classes, so the class was a menagerie of people who cared, people who didn't care, and people who sat on the floor due to a classroom for twenty being packed with thirty-five people.
The professor was great though. We talked ethics and morality and the death penalty and abortion and traffic laws and human rights and everythin...

Story Ideas
After something of a day off yesterday (and, um, the day before), I'm back to working on The Damn Historical Novel (which, if you're a new blog follower, is not the title, just just something I call it).
I got the idea for The Damn Historical Novel several years ago-- it all came about via an episode of antiques road show. I wrote down the idea in a file where I store all potential story ideas, saved it, and didn't really look at it again till early last year. If I hadn't written it down, to b...

Books that make me cry
I saw Toy Story 3 with my mom last Monday. And let me tell you—I teared up at the end like a four year old girl. I feel like I should send the writers cupcakes or flowers or chocolates, for writing a story so fantastic that I totally forgot it was a movie about toys. That last scene? I felt like I needed to hurry back to my condo to hug AJ Bear (a childhood toy I've still got) and promise him I'd never ever stick him under the bed or in a forgotten toy chest. Ever.
Anyway, that got me thinking...

Release party and GMA!
Last night was the SISTERS RED release event at Barnes and Noble in Alpharetta, Georgia!
I am so, so happy with the way the night went. Barnes and Noble went all out and even put at ad in the newspaper on Monday. Between that, bloggers, readers, friends, and family, there were at least 78 people there (my friend Eric counted!). The chairs, aisles, and even the area around and behind the customer service desk were full!
I've been trying to be a little more prepared for these things, instead of j...
