Smart Chicks!

I'm so, so, so, so excited to be a part of the Smart Chicks tour! If you don't know what the Smart Chicks tour is, your life is about to improve times a thousand:

The Smart Chicks Tour is a tour of a whole bunch of awesome authors, set up entirely be Melissa Marr, Kelly Armstrong, and Alyson Noel. There are eighteen authors on the tour in various cities around the US (and I believe one city in Canada)– for a full list and the tour schedule, go to www.smartchickskickit.com.

I'm editing up video ...

One step at a time

Now that I've finished the reading the first draft of the DAMN HISTORICAL NOVEL, I'm revising. And it is going to take a million years.

For one, this book is a gazillion pages long. It's actually 430-something, but I'm rounding up to the nearest gazillion. It's not the longest YA book in the world, not by far, but it's the longest I've written (114k without a real ending tagged on).

Two, the whole historical part. I'm trying to keep in mind language, carriage types, corset-wearing and...

New site and DHN progress

In case you haven't noticed, the website has had a major redesign! I am so excited about it. So excited. I keep staring at it, wondering what I can add. IS there anything I should add? Is anything missing or wonky? Please let me know…

So later this week, I'll be in San Antonio, TX. It's not to do an event or anything– it's actually in large part to see Hal Holbrook perform his Mark Twain Tonight! show as research for the Damn Historical Novel. The show isn't coming anywhere remotely close to A...

Livejournal

I'm moving my main blog over to a wordpress-based site. If you're seeing this, it means you mostly read my blog via your lj friends page. I love lj and have been a faithful user, but lack of customizations, inability to use java, and serious spam issues mean I've got to part ways with dear old ElJay.

I'm going to keep my livejournal account, of course (I love the friends page feature as well!) and will cross post for at least the next year, but my main blog will now be on wordpress at www.jack...

Islam is not my enemy

I was a senior in high school when 9/11 happened. It started while I was in my theater dance class. Teachers didn't begin canceling class in order to watch the news until I made it to Economics.
It makes me sad to realize that most of the freshmen I coach likely have no real, firsthand memories of 9/11. It makes me sadder to see people who sat in that Economics class with me forget who, in my opinion, the real enemy is.

Islam is not my enemy because:

I will not allow THIS man to represent Islam ...

AS YOU WISH, in German, is Drei Wünsche hast du frei. I'm so excited to see readers are getting it! If you speak German (or just like to look at German?), there are pictures of me holding up German posters over at the German amazon site. Look under the equivalent of "customer images."

AND speaking of overseas book love, today at 7pm GMT, I'...

AHHH!

I'm SO EXCITED to share my news, finally. The deal just was announced over at Publishers Marketplace, so I can share here!

Jackson Pearce's PURITY, in which a 16-year-old struggles with her conservative father's expectations and decides to live on the wild side by losing her virginity, pitched as written in the style of "Saved!" and "Juno," to Julie Scheina at Little, Brown Children's, for publication in Spring 2012, by Jim McCarthy at Dystel & Goderich Literary Management (World).

PURITY is a...

Decatur Book Festival

I love the Decatur Book Festival. I mean really, really love the Decatur Book Festival.
For a lot of reasons. To start with, they are SO well organized. For example: days before the festival, we get emails telling us the color of the shirt the volunteers will be wearing, then a picture of the shirt, then a picture of the volunteers wearing the aforementioned shirt, so that volunteer-recognition is a breeze. They also treat authors so, so well: the panels we're on are well thought out, the peop...
