Ghosts as paranormal heroes Guest blog by Juli D. Revezzo
Ghosts as paranormal heroes
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, the last decade, you know that paranormal romance and urban fantasy is hotter than hot. Oh, the industry might be yawning over these tales of otherkin interacting with humans, but it seems every article and blog one can read on the subject, at least those written by the fans, proves otherwise. Vast majorities of these fantasies star vampires and werewolves. But there are other creatures in the supernatural world to pick from. The most enduring critters, if we step back and look at the whole history of paranormal fiction, is ghosts. Right off the top of my head I can name a few popular ghosts stories from the beginning of popular fiction to today:
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor ColeridgeWuthering Heights by Emily BrontëTurn of the Screw by Henry JamesThe Ghost and Mrs. MuirThe Time of their Lives (yes, the Abbott and Costello movie)The Witching Hour by Anne Rice
So why is it this creature, who veritably definesthe field of paranormal research, is so neglected in modern fiction? When we can populate our tales with heroes of the otherkin, vampire, and even those of the angel and demon persuasion, (and even zombies, for God sake) why notghosts? Why are such stories relegated to some catch-all horror shelf? Just because they float rather than walk, and might be a little on the transparent side? Why can’t they fit into the tried and true happy ending requirement? For the most part, that’s what I asked when the ghosts in my debut novel, The Artist’s Inheritance (and its series Antique Magic) began taking serious shape. Who better defines ever after than those in the ever after? Those who wait for their beloveds on the other side, or those stuck here, pining for their beloveds? When I did, my heroine, Caitlin, made contact with an ancestral ghost, who lends a helping hand to save his descendents from a curse and an evil imp bent on the family’s destruction: forces he couldn’t stop when he was alive. What’s more romantic—or heroic, for that matter? I hope you will take a look at my novel, The Artist’s Inheritance and see if you agree! So, what do you think? Would you turn down a ghostly helper? Writers, have you ever tried to write a ghostly hero? How’d it work out for you? Would you try it again? I would. J
The Artist’s InheritanceTrouble only a witch can solve...Settling into their new home in Gulf Breeze, Florida, Caitlin finds strange changes coming over her husband Trevor. He seems obsessed with a beautiful chair he’s carving.
When the nightmares deepen and ghosts begin lurking—she knows something’s not right, and not just her newfound precognitive abilities. It’s the damned chair, she’s sure. Could it be just what it seems: a mundane piece of furniture? If so, why is it attracting dark forces—the forces she suspects drove Trevor’s siblings to insanity and suicide?
Before the same happens to Trevor, Caitlin must convince him to sell his art. But armed with only a handful of allies, and little experience of the supernatural, she must proceed with caution against the hellish forces besieging her family. If she succeeds, she will break the ancestral curse. If she fails, she may lose forever the one thing she cares about most: her beloved Trevor.

The Allure of the Lycan: Tour Stop and Giveaway for Lycan Unleased by Tiffany Allee
The Allure of the Lycan
The hero of Lycan Unleashed is—you guessed it—a lycan. Mason Sanderson is also an agent in the Otherworlder Enforcement Agency (OWEA). The OWEA is similar to the real world FBI, except that they deal with non-human cases. The otherworlders of this world are out in the open, and are policed similarly to normal human.
I’m a huge fan of lycans and werewolves. Some of my favorite books and movies feature them, and while I’m also a huge fan of vampires and other supernatural creatures, lycans will always hold a special allure for me.
I’m particularly fond of the werewolves in Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega series, as well as the smexy one in Underworld. One of the main characters in the television show Grimm is a werewolf (although his technical name is something different), and I think he’s one of the most fascinating characters. And I can’t forget Alicide from Charlaine Harris’s books. To be totally honest, I love that character twice as much when I get to watch Joe Manganiello play him. ;-)
A few reasons I think they’re so attractive to many of us:
Wildness
Lycans have that edge of the wild, a glimmer of their beast inside that peeks through. They are men, but the beast within is many times barely contained. Something is infinitely attractive about a barely controlled wild nature beneath the smoother human exterior. In fiction, anyway, haha.
Loyalty
Lycans always strike me as a loyal group, and I find that very attractive. Many times a presented as a pack animal, they do what needs to be done to protect their packs, sometimes even laying down their lives. What woman wouldn’t want a man who, after he is committed, would give his life to protect her?
Strength
Lycans are tough. And despite how evolved I like to think I am, a good show of strength always gets my blood pumping. Nothing like a man who can toss my enemies across the room to defend me—if, you know, I had enemies ornery enough to deserve a tossing.
Wolves are Adorable
Yeah, I said it. Wolves are flipping cute. Granted, not all werewolves and lycans are presented as particularly cute and fuzzy in their changed forms, but it had to be mentioned. :-)

All About the Argeneaus: Interview, Excerpt and Giveaway with Lynsay Sands
All About the Argeneauswith Lynsay Sands: Q) You write the popular Argeneau vampire series, but you also write historical romance novels. What is it like switching from vampires to corsets? Do you prepare, or approach the writing differently? A) Hmm… no. My style of writing is the same regardless of the genre I’m doing. The only issue is that characters have to come to me when they want to be written about so if I’m supposed to write a historical but an Argeneau keeps appearing well then the Argeneau might be sent in first. Q) Vampires have been a mesmerizing subject since the eighteenth century. Why do you think readers love them so much? When did you first decide to write about vampires? A) What you have with a vampire is someone who is really old with all the experience that comes with that, but who looks young. So you have a mysterious, sexy, smart guy who’s seen and done a lot, met probably thousands of women over the ages and yet (at least in the Argeneaus’ case) chooses one woman to be his lifemate. She’s got to feel special with a guy like that, don’t you think? And don’t we all want to feel special? I never had any intention of writing vampires. I never even read them before starting the series. The inspiration came from a writer friend. She, myself and another friend (who does write a very popular dark series of vampires) were chatting via instant messenger and she suggested that the three of us do a Halloween anthology of vampires. She would do her own version, the other friend could do one of her dark stories, and I could write a light funny vamp story. I laughed and said, “If I did something like that you know my vamp would have to faint at the sight of blood or something.” We all laughed and I tossed out a couple more ideas before we changed the subject. We never did that anthology, but those ideas stuck in my head until I finally just had to write the story. Q) Your vampires are not the typical sinister undead characters. Can you tell us how and why you came up with the idea of the nanos and Atlantis? A) Well, quite simply, I couldn't do the dead soulless version as a hero. I needed a different source for my vampires to be able to write them with any sort of believability, so had to come up with an alternate source. Necessity is the mother of invention and all that. I looked around at what was possible and nanos that used blood as a propellant and to perform the necessary repairs to the body seemed the most viable answer. But I wanted my vamps older and that’s where Atlantis came into play since it's legendary for being advanced technologically. I combined it all and then added that when Atlantis fell, the nanos evolved their hosts to have fangs and be stronger and faster to be better predators and get the extra blood they needed (nanos use more blood than a mortal body can produce to do their work.) It all just kind of came together for me
Excerpt that ties in with the Avon FB Sweepstakes:
“Mmmm, this really is good,” Valerie murmured, dipping her spoon into her ice cream and scooping out a large mouthful.“I told you it was.”Valerie shifted around in the front seat and smiled at Leigh. The pregnant woman was seated between Bricker and Marguerite on the SUV’s back seat where all three of them were gobbling up their own Rocky Road sundaes with marshmallow topping, nuts and a cherry.“You were right,” Valerie complimented the woman and then settled back in her seat, her gaze sliding to a scowling Anders in the driver’s seat. The man had been scowling since leaving the house. Her gaze dropped to the sundae sitting on the floor between them and she said, “You really should pull over and eat yours before it completely melts, Anders. It will only take a couple minutes.”“I don’t have a sundae,” Anders said grimly. “That’s Leigh’s. She said she wanted two, so she has two.”“And I told you I lied so you could have one because I knew you were too annoyed to order one for yourself,” Leigh said patiently. “Pull over and eat it, Anders. I promise you it’s the best thing you’ve ever tasted.” When he didn’t respond, Marguerite said, “Why don’t you feed him, Valerie. That way he doesn’t have to stop, but can still enjoy it.”Valerie’s eyes widened. “Oh, I don’t think--”“Just pretend he’s a sick and cranky child you have to feed.” Marguerite said with amusement.Valerie’s eyes shot to Anders in time to catch him casting a dirty look into the rearview mirror, no doubt at Marguerite. Since the woman suddenly chuckled, she supposed Marguerite caught the look.Valerie glanced down at the melting sundae. It did seem a shame for it to go to waste. It was good ice cream. And it hadn’t been cheap.“Just give him a taste, Valerie, so he’ll stop and eat it,” Leigh suggested.Valerie hesitated, but they were pulling up to a red light and it wouldn’t interfere with his driving, so she scooped up a healthy selection of her own ice cream and topping and leaned over to offer her spoon to him.Anders eyed the offering, but didn’t at first open his mouth. She was just about to give up, sit back and eat it herself when he suddenly did. Valerie moved the spoon between his open lips, watching silently as he closed his mouth around the spoon and ice cream. She could have sworn the gold flecks in his eyes flashed bigger and brighter in the black irises and then he closed his eyes on a long moan that sounded almost sexual.Valerie stared wide-eyed as he savored the food, then withdrew the now clean spoon and sank back in her seat uncertainly.“Told you you’d like it,” Leigh said with amusement from the back seat. When Anders didn’t respond, but remained still, eyes closed, Bricker said, “Yo, A-man. The light’s changed.”Anders blinked his eyes open, saw that Bricker was telling the truth and urged the car forward again. He only drove half a block though before pulling into a mall parking lot to finish his sundae.

Interview with Olivia Hardin
Please tell us about your latest release.
Shifty Business is the third book in my Bend-Bite-Shift Trilogy. We briefly met Gerry and Nicky during book one of the series. In Shifty we get to find out what was happening to the pair while we were following the other characters at the start of the trilogy. It turns out Gerry and Nicky are married, but that is just the beginning of the secrets that get revealed during the book.
What inspired you to write this book?
At first I wasn’t sure what Nicky and Gerry’s story would be. I had a starting place for them since they were introduced in book 1 of the Bend-Bite-Shift Trilogy. Since we knew from that first book that Nicky and Gerry’s relationship was a surprise/secret to their team, I decided to take the idea of secrets even further, so wrap their entire relationship up in them.
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
Well, when I wrote book one I knew the characters that would appear in book 3 were going to start out in New Orleans. A year ago this March I got the chance to travel to the French Quarter. Not only did I get to do some research, but I also got to meet up with some other fabulous authors, some of whom are now very good friends.
With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
I think each book can be read as a stand alone, but readers who start at the end of the series may find spoilers to the earlier books. I’ve chosen to write this trilogy a little differently in that all of the books follow one arc, but each book focuses on a different romantic couple and their struggles.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
Honestly, I think I knew by the time I was sixteen that I was a writer. Having the confidence to become a published writer was an entirely different animal. It’s not that tough to “bleed onto the keyboard,” but to let someone else share in that experience takes a lot of faith.
What are your guilty pleasures in life?
*hides face in hands* Lucky Country Aussie Style Strawberry Licorice. I am officially addicted to them.
Where can readers find you on the web?
http://booksbyolivia.com http://oliviahardinwriter.com http://twitter.com/oliviaH_writer http://www.facebook.com/oliviahardin
Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
A moment later, Mére Owa bustled into the bedroom and boldly brushed past Nicky and through the portal. Langston followed her a second later.
“Were you just gonna leave? I thought you wanted my help, boyo,” the dark woman fussed, slapping at Nicky’s arm with her blood-red scarf.
“I was going to go back to the apartment and wait for you as soon as we got her settled here. I needed to get away from…”
“I know, I know. Stop your fussing. You’re wife ain’t got much time if I’m right and we got to get crackin’ here!”
“Wife?” Langston murmured, astonishment blanching his face. “It would seem there is much you have not told us, Nicky.”
Nicky might have laughed at the expression on the big man’s face. It wasn’t easy to surprise the wise giant, but he was certainly caught off guard now. Instead of laughing though, Nicky groaned, putting his face in his hands and then rubbing the back of his stress-stiff neck.
“Yeah, Langston, I guess there is… but the way I figure it, I should be entitled to some privacy, right?”

Secrets buried deep in the past begin to rise, threatening everything she holds dear.

About the Author
When Olivia Hardin began having strange movie-like dreams in her teens, she had no choice but to begin putting them to paper. Before long the writing bug had her and she knew she wanted to be a published author. Several rejections plus a little bit of life later, and she was temporarily “cured” of the urge to write. That is until she met a group of talented and fabulous writers who gave her the direction and encouragement she needed to get lost in the words again.
Olivia’s attended three different universities over the years. She toyed with majors in Computer Technology, English, History and Geology until one day she heard the term road scholar and she knew that was what she wanted to be. Now she “studies” anything and everything just for the joy of learning. She's also an insatiable crafter who only completes about 1 out of 5 projects, a jogger who hates to run, and she’s sometimes accused of being artistic.
A native Texas girl, Olivia lives in the beautiful Lone Star state with her husband, Danny and their puppy, Bonnie.

Interview with Nadia Scrieva
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
The characters in this series have names relating to their character traits. Each family has a theme. For the Burnsons, the theme is fire, while for the Kalgrens, the theme is nature. (Rose, Thorn.)
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?Pax is great fun to write, because she is smart, sensitive, and strong. Even so, she makes mistakes and gets into huge messes, but it’s watching her work really hard to get out of trouble and protect her friends that I admire.
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
I truly believe that a good character will be strong enough to take control of his or her own destiny. Much of my planning has been futile, for the characters would end up acting in ways that surprised me, which were far better than any of my plans. It’s similar to writing a script for an actor, then having him deviate from the lines in the heat of the moment. Often, the spontaneous material is way better—way more real.
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
Every crazy thing I have ever done was book-related research. =) Most of the relationship drama is pulled directly out of my real life, along with many of the dangerous situations on the road. I don’t think I can answer this question without admitting to illegal or incriminating activities!
Can you tell readers a little bit about the world building in the book/series? How does this world differ from our normal world?
The world of Thirty Minutes to Heartbreak is very similar to our world, except for the presence of demigods. While most stories involving demigods use classic Greek or Roman themes. I have decided to use Buddhist deities called devas. The characters who are descended from devas have the ability to perform supernatural feats, but without devoted practice and study of their techniques, they remain normal human beings.
Do any of your characters have similar characteristics of yourself in them and what are they?
Usually, I will take a little piece of myself and insert it into every character so I can relate to them while writing about their POV. My female main characters will usually have an aggressive, take-no-prisoners attitude. My male characters will sometimes have an explosive temper.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
Writer’s block is like kryptonite. The last time I encountered a really bad writer’s block, it was when I was writing a climactic fight scene. I had to take a break for two days and play games on Facebook to relax. In my previous writer’s block, I watched every episode of The Walking Dead. I think that it’s important to step completely out of the world for a small, manageable amount of time, like a weekend.
Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?
Oh, yes. I like to write with a lit candle for atmosphere. I also don’t go outside or pick up phone calls for weeks on end, because I don’t want to be taken “out of the world.” I become a demon, yelling at anyone who disturbs me, so everyone knows not to disturb Nadia when she’s in writing mode.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
From the time I was able to scribble a few words, I was trying to write stories. Even before that, I told them verbally.
What are your guilty pleasures in life?
Coffee, hot sauce, and dancing.

Pax Burnson is the descendant of devas. She has vowed to live her life without practicing her powers, but recent events have overturned her entire existence. Thorn Kalgren has been the love of her life since she was fourteen -- he helped her to heal after the loss of her parents. An idea strikes Pax as she sees her own pain reflected in Thorn's sister, Amara Kalgren. She is suddenly filled with a new, all-consuming purpose: vengeance. She believes there is nothing else left.
Using ancient magick and enlisting Amara's help, Pax orchestrates a complex, drawn-out plan to deceive and emotionally destroy her former lover. The friendship and loyalty between the two girls becomes fortified and unshakable as they venture down a dark and twisted path together, encountering formidable roadblocks and demons.
It soon becomes clear to Pax that everything she has been led to believe about her powers and her past was shaped by blatant lies. When she discovers that Thorn's infidelity is closely linked with her mother's death, she is forced to make a life-altering decision...

About the Author
Hi. I’m Francesca Hawley and I’m a fat chick. A woman with dangerous curves just like my heroines.
Many people don’t like the word, “fat” but I do because it’s the truth and I’ve learned to own it. I am a fat chick and I always will be. Even if my fairy godmother popped in right at this moment and waved her wand to make me a size 2, I know that mentally and emotionally I’d still be a fat chick. So why is this relevant? Well, my size has had a major influence on how I see the world and how I write.
I first began to read romance when I was in my teens. I loved the genre, but the heroines were all thin. Their thighs didn’t rub together…had never rubbed together…and frankly I had trouble relating to these ladies. The stories were great—full of emotion and well told, but the heroines weren’t like me and that was a major disappointment. I kept wondering where were the fat heroines? I found some occasionally, but to have their Happily Ever After they usually had to lose weight and go from ugly duckling to swan.
Well, I wanted a fat heroine who loved herself—or at least learned to love herself—and a hot alpha hero who liked her jiggly bits just the way they were. Since I didn’t find many big girls to read about, I decided to write about them myself. After all, I loved to write anyway and had been writing almost as long as I’d been reading, so Francesca Hawley – author of Romance with Dangerous Curves was born.
In a Francesca Hawley romance, my readers will find authentic, sensual, fat heroines who love and are loved by their intense, passionate, and seductive Alpha heroes. I hope you enjoy their dangerous curves just as much as their hunky heroes do.

Interview: Spoilt by Joanne Ellis
Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
I’m a mother of two with my own small bookkeeping business. I write in romance because I have always liked reading the genre and love creating love stories and falling in love as the characters do.
Please tell us about your latest release.
My latest release is the third in the series, Womanizer. It is about a photographer and model who meet on a shoot. Isabelle starts receiving letters from a stalker who tries to take her life. Memory loss, misunderstandings and obsession keep the couple apart until…. Now that would be giving it away! J
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
Lucas, my first leading man, from Spoilt. I enjoyed writing about him so much I started a prequel to Spoilt (which is almost complete!) and is the story of his life until he meets Chelsea.
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
I start off with a few details and characteristics of a character before I start but they then develop as the story does. I have a picture in my mind of the person and their personality and then as each situation occurs I think, how would, character, react to this.
Did you find anything really interesting while researching this or another book?
Yes, the post mortem information for a body. Rigor mortis, body temperature and that type of thing.
With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
Each book can be read as a stand alone. Twisted Fire for example is about Charlotte, Chelsea’s sister and both Chelsea and Lucas can be found in this book and the subsequent books. Each story is a different stand alone one but because the characters from other books appear… this could give away the ending of the previous books but then again, romance wouldn’t be romance without a happily ever after.
Do any of your characters have similar characteristics of yourself in them and what are they?
Charlotte is sassy, fun and compassionate so I like to think she is most like me. J
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
I don’t suffer from writers block as such but I do only write when the mood takes me and when I’m in the zone. Sometimes I can go long periods of time before inspiration strikes, sometimes it is close together, but when it does strike, I tend to write a lot all at once.
Do you write in different genres?
I write in romance for the most part but in a few different sub genres, suspense/crime, historical and paranormal. I also write erotic romance under a pen name.
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?
I love to read, and read some more… My passion is music, it inspires me in many ways.
What was the last amazing book you read?
Anna Karenina
What can readers expect next from you?
The next two books in the series, The Rookie and Fly Boy.

Interview and Giveaway: Hell’s Mercenary by Luke West
Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
I’m 25 years of age, and was born and currently reside in Queensland, Australia. To be honest I just started writing without being aware of what genre I was heading into. I have always been an avid fan on Fantasy and anything Paranormal; I guess writing in one of these genres was inevitable. I love creating worlds and characters with abilities far outside the norm. It’s hard to do that in any other genre.
What inspired you to write this book?
Before writing this particular book, my hard drive was filled with only half completed novels. This was starting to bug me, and I started doubting my ability to ever finish one. For fun, I started writing the prologue to Hell’s Mercenary and I just couldn’t stop. When I wasn’t typing, I was planning the novel on scrap paper. I loved the characters, the worlds and the situations the both of them were open too.
Please tell us about your latest release.
Hell’s Mercenary is the first of three books from the Intervening World Chronicles. Arliah lives a mundane life in Hell. In order to escape she unwillingly signs a contract with the devil. Before she knows it, she is signing out at Hell’s reception desk, and traveling up the lengthy elevator ride - eventually arriving at Earth. Her mission is to find out the secrets of Heaven, and bring them to Hell. Meanwhile the people on Earth are battling against each other to secure one of the weekly tickets in Heaven.
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
A little bit of everything really. Obviously in a fantasy novel having the name Michael isn’t exactly realistic. I use online search engines and name generators mainly. Some authors find this to be the hardest part of writing the novel, matching a name to a character can be daunting.
Was one of your characters more challenging to write than another?
Yes! In Hell’s Mercenary, a character named Quookum eventually enters the book. She is a little, nosy old lady whose opinion is the only one that matters. I actually watched a lot of old people at shopping centers just to get a feel about the way they act. I ended up writing a complete background story on her for my own sake.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
Ida is my favorite. She is a Witch who lives deep within Hell’s forest. She lives alone in a little old cottage and that’s how she likes it. Ida is a kind old lady, but is well aware of the art that is black magic. I have a special bond with her.
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
I let the character come out to play why I write. I usually have a fare idea of who they are and the purpose they have in the book. No matter how planned I am though, they always seems to have more to their personality then I realize.
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
One of my favorite scenes is when the main character Arliah re-enters Hell. This is home to her, but it’s the first time the reader is welcomed down under. Certain elements of Hell are symbolic to what perception is already out there, but I wanted to develop this one step further. Hell has shopping centers, banks, grocery stores and children’s playgrounds. All of which the people can enjoy without a smile.
Can you tell readers a little bit about the world building in the book/series? How does this world differ from our normal world?
In the first book of the series, my main focus was to introduce the reader to the different worlds, and explain the difference between them.
Earth – A deserted world: a place of patience, hope and misery. This is the waiting zone for the humans. They must kill each other for the bounties that hover over their heads. The people with the highest bounties win a life-long ticket to Heaven. The people that try and don’t succeed, end up in Hell for 12 months. Once their expiration date approaches, they are sent down the Tunnel of Abyss, which turns them to dust. The humans who don’t want to participate can stay on Earth, lingering in fear. Arliah must travel through Earth to find the gates of Heaven.
With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
If the reader was to only read the first novel, they would miss out on the heart of the story, the history of the characters and why the world they live in is so brutal. I believe book two will be the most important.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
Unfortunately yes. The longest it has lasted was six months. I rely on close friends and family members to pull me from the rut. When I don’t write, I’m not myself. It usually starts with me writing several pages of “rubbish” only to delete them afterwards. Very frustrating.
Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?
Listen to music that would best describe the scene I’m about to write. It may be Evanescence or a top 40 hit.
Do you write in different genres?
Yes. I typically write Fantasy/Paranormal, but I’m working on a Horror. It’s not your typical “jump out of you seat” horror, but more “obscure.” I have a few general fiction ideas up my sleeve too.
Do you find it difficult to write in multiple genres?
It is challenging. Pulling the reader in and keeping them interested really depends on how you evolve the story. Keeping them interested with a horror story and keeping them interested in a romance is a completely different thing. This is what I find the most challenging.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
That’s a tricky one. I guess any writer will find this the most difficult transformation. I only published my first peace a month ago, so I guess then. I have been writing since I was 12, but never imagined my work being read by others.
What are your guilty pleasures in life?
Dr Pepper and Peanut M&M’s. Even though the packet says to share, I don’t personally like the idea :D
What was the last amazing book you read?
I loved The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. One of my favorite books to date!
What can readers expect next from you?
I like to be different. I notice the different things in life, and the different/unique personalities out there. I hope to release a book that you can’t compare to any others, yet can’t remove your eyes from. That’s the goal anyway.

Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
Although the wide-open space that the desert provides gives me a certain realm of safety, it also opens up a new world of danger. This desert doesn't just contain sand; it owns the gates to Hell. The sun exits, allowing the moonbeams to guide my way. The sweat that once consumed my skin has now gone, allowing coldness to enter my body. The night is black, showcasing the thousands of stars that make up tonight's sky.
My legs begin to ache, proving I must be close. As my eyes scan the area, I can't help feel the oppressive silence. No noise from banished souls, no echoes from the outer city, just deathly quiet. Too quiet. I take in the outline of the lift. A small rectangular shape, outlined in silver metal. If I were any taller, I’d have to duck or my head would be covered in bruises. A batch of unsettled butterflies take up residence in my stomach. Something is not right. Standing in front of the rusted lift doors, something is definitely telling me not to push the button alerting the lift to my presence.
Surveying the situation, I become concerned with what little protection this scene provides me. The humans must be laughing at the target I am so readily providing them. To them I am no threat at all, just a young woman with long black hair and skin so white I could pass as a ghost. My bright blue eyes could be my only chance of scaring them off. I realize I'm not a bulky woman with muscles like a professional wrestler. I don't have devil horns sprouting from my forehead. My appearance betrays no mythical power with which to fight them off. I'm just a girl.
I rely on my black leather trench coat, my high leather boots and my visible tattoos to composite the bad ass image I need to survive in this place. I pull my dagger from its hilt, happy that my glove hides the ring. Allowing a smile to form across my face, hoping to display the confidence I only hope I possess. I wait. Seconds turn into minutes. The unsettling feeling staunchly refuses to leave me. With my dagger still at the ready, I slam my left hand against the button on the panel.
I jump when the lift jerks into motion. This is the only sound I have heard in hours. I wait. The eerie creaking of the rusted chains pulling the carriage to the surface echoes loudly through the desert. No hiding my presence now.

Book Description:
If you were faced with the abominable decision to die or kill a loved one to survive, would you be the honorable sacrifice?
Hell’s Mercenary. The Urban Fantasy novel from the Intervening World Chronicles, by up and coming author Luke West.
Tobias is the Devil – the ruler of Hell. For years he has banished the souls of innocent humans only to compliment his ruling status, but slowly things are starting to change.
Fewer souls are struggling down the elevator ride eventuating at Hell’s reception desk, yet heaven is reporting an influx of angel’s climbing the staircase into the clouds.
Tobias begins questioning the rules with his sister and rivalry – Constance – the leader of heaven.
When his inquiries go unanswered, he entrusts his assistant Arliah with a mission she simply cannot refuse, yet reluctantly accepts.
Her uncanny nature and gothic philosophy only cause havoc among Hell’s people, and their eyes slowly open as they begin noticing her continual departures through Hell’s gates and presumably into the beauty of heaven.
What Arliah soon comprehends is that the gates of heaven are located at the other end of Earth.
Earth – A deserted world: a place of patience, hope and misery. The only escape is to win the game; your target – the humans with the leading bounties.
Will her black magic connections lead her to the gates of heaven – a world believed to be the light at the end of the tunnel? Or will her newfound supernatural powers carve the third strike against her signed contract?
Her mission – find heaven, and once she does, bring it to Hell.
