Book Description:
The first book in a new contemporary series from award-winning author Crista McHugh, that’s a sexy, modern twist on Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
Lia Mantovani has created one of the hottest restaurants on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, but all that could disappear if she loses her lease with Kelly Properties. Having had her dreams ripped away from her before, she’ll do everything in her power to keep her restaurant. Her fate hangs on the whims of the frustratingly handsome Adam Kelly.
Adam has spent years trying to convince world famous chef Amadeus Schlittler to open a restaurant in Chicago, but he wants the prime location held by Lia. Business has always come first… until sparks fly when Adam meets her. When things get hot outside the kitchen, though, they’re both in danger of getting burned.

Excerpt 3:
After he’d safely deposited the dog outside, two of his younger brothers ambushed him in the hallway. “Not too shabby, eh?” Dan asked.“Yeah, Mom might have actually struck the jackpot this time,” Caleb added.Adam shoved past them. “What are you two talking about?”“As if it wasn’t obvious.” Laughter laced Caleb’s words. “I’m sorry, Adam, but I don’t think Lia’s on the menu.”“Now be fair.” Dan crossed his arms in an attempt to look serious, but the twinkle in his eyes was anything but. “I don’t think Adam stands a chance, what with Jasper ready to hump Lia the second he gets near her.” “True. Adam’s a bit out of practice with the ladies.”“Let me check what the magic die has to say. You need at least a seven to compete against Jasper.” Dan pulled out the twenty-sided piece of red plastic he’d kept in his pocket since they were kids and rolled it across the floor. “Ouch. A five. Not much hope for you to get lucky tonight.”“Yeah, yeah, boys. Have a laugh at my expense.” He peered into the living room where his mother chatted away with another woman with the same full lips as the woman in the kitchen. “Let me guess—Lia is the daughter of one of Mom’s friends.”“Bingo,” Caleb replied. “I’m trying hard to figure out how they were able to cook this one up, though. Somehow Mom won her at an auction.”“And of course, what would be a better way to make one of us see her as a potential wife than to have her wow us with her cooking?” Dan added.Adam rubbed the back of his neck. As the eldest, he’d fallen victim to his fair share of his mother’s matchmaking schemes. He jerked his thumb back to the kitchen. “Is she in on it, too?”“Nope.” Caleb grinned. “In fact, I got the distinct impression she’s in the same boat as we are.”At least he wouldn’t have to worry about Lia being some gold-digging debutante who grew cow-eyed over the Kelly family fortune. Not that all the women his mother tried to pair him up with were. But they all had a walk down the aisle on their agendas. Was Lia any different?“What do you think of her?” He watched his brothers closely for any flickers of interest. It was an unspoken rule among the Kelly boys that none of them would go after a girl his brother wanted. Dan shrugged. “She’s okay, but I’m too busy trying to survive residency to date anyone, especially not when there’s an ER full of hot little nurses I can have flings with.”“Caleb?”“No way. Have you seen Kourtney?” He held up his phone to show a picture of a woman with bleached-blond hair and breasts so large, Adam wondered how she was able to walk upright.Dan’s brows furrowed together as he studied the same impressive features. “They’re fake.”“Who cares?” Caleb snatched the phone back and slipped it into his pocket. “I’m just thankful she agreed to move to Utah with me.”For the first time ever, Adam heard a wistful note to his brother’s voice. “Serious about this one?”“Possibly.”“Has Mom met her?”The tips of Caleb’s ears turned red, and he refused to meet Adam’s gaze. “Um, yeah.”Dan leaned over and whispered, “It didn’t go well.”Adam’s breath caught. Growing up, he’d always known what was happening in his brothers’ lives. Why didn’t he know about this? “When did that happen?”“A couple of months ago when Mom came down to Florida.” Caleb ran his fingers through his closely cropped hair. “Kourtney tried to impress her, but Mom was giving her a hard time.”
Based on the picture Caleb had shown him, he could only imagine the exchange between their high-society mother and the woman who looked like she’d landed the starring role in an adult film.

Putting the History in Alternate History

Steampunk is by definition, a branch of alternate history, which, is, in turn, a type of speculative fiction. Each steampunk universe varies, and yes, a few are in completely alternate timelines when what really happened on our earth has no bearing. Most, however, are different timelines that branched away from our own on one or two critical points. The Gaslight Chronicles are part of that group. It’s our world, but with two distinct differences, which occurred at different points in time.
1). In the Gaslight Chronicles, there is and has always been magick on our planet. With the magick comes monsters. Some of the species, like werewolves, are just people—they can be good or nasty as their nature dictates. Others, like vampyres, are wholly evil. They’re not pretty or sexy and they don’t sparkle. They’re ugly, stinky, and they want to eat you. Period. Because of this, King Arthur’s Order of the Round Table never disbanded. Their descendants, most with some special powers, still fight the good fight for Queen and Country, keeping the undead and other creatures from taking over. They’re mostly secret now, but if you ask one, they’ll tell you they work for the Home Office. Most of the Gaslight stories are centered in some way around the Order and its Knights.
2). In reality, in the 1840s, a man named Charles Babbage drew up plans for a mechanical calculating machine he called an “Analytical Engine.” Ada, Countess Lovelace (who was also the daughter of the famous Lord Byron) wrote the machine code, which was to work using the punchcards then used in jacquard looms. Unfortunately the machine was never built, and both Babbage and Lovelace died young and poor. In the world of the Gaslight Chronicles, the engine was built, Babbage was made a baron, and Lady Lovelace endowed a college for women in the sciences at Oxford in the 1850s before her death.
Everything I write in this series hinges on these two points. Would point 1 or 2 have changed the course of this piece of technology, artwork, or social structure? If not, it stays the same. And for that reason, I DO have to do an awful lot of historical research, even though my world is an imaginary one.
As a few examples, in Photographs & Phantoms, I have a lady photographer as the heroine. She does have a clockwork cart to carry her equipment, but other than that, the processes are the same. This book is set so soon after the computer revolution that the analytical engine hasn’t really filtered down to the arts, which photography was considered at the time. Also, the plot involved a fire escape, which weren’t common until much later. Instead, I had to make one of my characters a champion wall-climber. J
On the other hand, Lady Lovelace made huge strides for women in professional capacities. Because of her, my characters are able to study engineering and medicine, well before their real contemporaries could, and society is a bit ahead on women’s suffrage. One negative of this early industrial revolution is that all the steam power is fired by coal. London and other cities are so polluted that it is unsafe to go outside without, essentially, a gas mask. Consequently, London’s poor are dying off at an alarming rate, something the Order is very anxious to correct. This problem comes into play in the new book, Ashes & Alchemy.
My current nightstand reading is a big book on Victorian India. Want to guess where the Chronicles will be going in book 8? (Book 7 is already with my editor, and comes out in May.)
Think about the butterfly effects of changing history. What one thing do you think you’d change? And what would be the consequences? Good or bad? Don’t forget, there’s always balance in this sort of thing.
Thanks so much to Roxanne for having me here today, and don’t forget to enter the contest for an amazing piece of custom jewelry. Thanks for reading!
~Cindy

London, 1860
Police inspector Sebastian Brown served Queen and country in India before returning to England to investigate supernatural crimes alongside the Order of the Round Table. If his wifeless, childless life feels a little empty sometimes, that's not too great a price to pay in the name of duty.
Minerva Shaw is desperately seeking a doctor when she mistakenly lands on Sebastian's doorstep. Her daughter Ivy has fallen gravely ill with a mysterious illness—the same illness, it seems, that's responsible for taking the lives of many of Ivy's classmates.
Seb sniffs a case, and taking in Minnie and Ivy seems the only way to protect them while he solves it. But as mother and daughter work their way into his heart and Seb uses every magickal and technological resource he can muster to uncover the source of the deadly plague, it's he who will need protecting—from emotions he'd thought buried long ago.

Cindy Spencer Pape firmly believes in happily-ever-after and brings that to her writing. Award-winning author of 18 novels and more than 30 shorter works, Cindy lives in southeast Michigan with her husband, two sons and a houseful of pets. When not hard at work writing she can be found dressing up for steampunk parties and Renaissance fairs, or with her nose buried in a book.

Book and Blog Ideas with Susan C Muller

Thanks for hosting me on your blog today. Whenever I’m on a panel discussion or a book signing, people always want to know where I get my ideas for a book. Ideas might come to some writers full-blown and completely plotted. I’ve never met one of these authors, but it’s possible they exist, somewhere.
Ideas are much more likely to come as a tiny gem that is expanded on by constantly asking “What if?” or that idea into a full-length novel.
The first book on my Occult series, The Secrets on Forest Bend, began when I wondered about the life of a gun−how did it affect the life of those who owned it? The hero in that book is a cop named Adam Campbell. Many readers ask me to write the story of his partner, Ruben Marquez.
I hesitated because I wasn’t sure what to do with a six-foot eight Hispanic guy. Then I heard a Homeland Security Agent talk about smuggling along the Texas/Mexico border. He claimed that many smugglers went to psychics to find the best time to make a run. Knowing that many psychics are witches, The Witch on Twisted Oak was born.
While writing Witch, I decided I wanted to do another book in the series, but I had already written about Adam and his partner. Who should be my next hero?
Both books featured a minor character, another detective in the squad, named Remy Steinberg. I left Remy a minor character, but gave him a few extra lines, a little more page time. Just enough so that he wouldn’t steal the show, but enough that a reader might say, “Oh, yeah, I remember him.”
Remy had a Jewish father and a Cajun mother. He was born in New Jersey and raised in Louisiana. I thought, I’ll bet Remy could get into a lot of trouble in Louisiana.
And that is how Voodoo on Bayou Lafonte was born. I didn’t have a plot or story line. I thought about Louisiana and what could be found there and came up with the bayou and voodoo. That’s all, I had to make a book from that.
There were several problems. Remy had already been described as short and a womanizer with two ex-wives and kids with different women. I had to redeem him to turn him into a hero. This process started in Witch when Ruben called Remy a good detective and wished he was helping on the case. Of course, Ruben didn’t trust Remy around his girlfriend.
How do you redeem an unsympathetic character? By making him willing to sacrifice his life to save his child and having him willingly face the one thing in life that terrorizes him. Tossing in an ex-wife who he still loves doesn’t hurt, either.
So, that’s it. You take one tiny little gem or an idea and keep working to expand on it, throwing problems at your hero, keeping the tension high no matter what the genre.
In Voodoo on Bayou Lafonte, Remy faces more than his share of problems−drug runners, kidnappers, hurricane force wind and rain, voodoo worshipers, and worst of all, his lifelong fear of the swamp. Let me know if you think I succeeded in turning him into a full-fledged hero.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a fourth generation Texan and I attended Stephen F. Austin State University where I majored in Business Administration, but took creative writing classes on the side because that’s where my heart was.
I have always loved reading and if it’s true that God doesn’t subtract the hours you spend reading from your life span, then I should pass the century mark with flying colors. I first tried my hand at writing when I was eleven, but the sun was shining and I had a new bike so that effort was doomed to failure.
I didn’t try writing again until I was well into my sixties. People ask me why I took it up then and my answer is simple, because my husband retired. If you don’t understand, just wait, you will.
My first novel, The Secrets on Forest Bend, won several awards. After that, I was hooked.
I’ve been blessed with two great kids and four grandkids. My late husband and I loved to travel and we saw much of the world. Kenya, New Zealand, and the Galapagos Islands are a few of my favorite places. After he passed, I thought my traveling days were over, yet I’ve since been to Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela.
I live in Spring, Texas where I currently serve as president of the Northwest Houston chapter of RWA and volunteer at a local hospital. I also enjoy speaking to book clubs and writers groups.

Break(Through) The Ice: Blitz, Excerpt and Giveaway with Rachell Nichole

Excerpt:
Oh, God, no. No, no, no. Please do not come over here! Her first meeting with Vince couldn’t be while she was face-down in a tangled heap of arms and legs. With another man, to boot. She was supposed to be breaking the ice around Vince, not her ass, damn it.She pushed her gloved hands into the snow and tried to lever herself up. She attempted to get her knees under her, but the snowshoes were too big in the front, keeping her off balance. “Here, let me.” Vince’s large hands closed around her arms and he lifted her as if she weighed nothing. At five-nine, and none-too-skinny, she wasn’t used to being manhandled. But when Vince set her upright, steadying her with those strong hands of his, she felt almost delicate. His shaved head was covered with a fur-lined hood clouding his features with shadows, but she would know what he looked like in the pitch black: Dark skin, a wide-set nose, low eyebrows, and thick pink lips she’d imagined kissing a thousand times. Even within the confines of his coat, she could see the broad shoulders, the thick, corded neck, and tapered waist.Jasmine looked into those dark eyes and forgot everything around her, even the fact that not thirty seconds ago, he’d been telling another woman he loved her.“Uh… I’m…” Coherent thought left her completely. “Jasmine Graves.” The deep rumble of his mildly-accented voice caressed her name, sending a shiver skittering down her spine. He knew her name? She’d entered an alternate universe where movie stars knew authors’ names, not the other way around. She nodded like a fool.“Are you all right, Ms. Graves?” “Jaz,” she said. His hood slipped back, revealing that devastatingly handsome face. He looked momentarily confused, and if she didn’t know any better, she’d think his face looked as star-struck as hers felt in that moment. She blinked, trying to make sense of the situation and regain her equilibrium, but as soon as her eyes opened, they were captured again by his gaze. What did he see when he looked at her? She’d pulled a soft multi-colored knit hat low over her ears. her long hair flowing out behind her in the wind. A rib-knit scarf covered her chin and neck. Only a bit of her face was visible in the night, but Vince’s attention didn’t waver an inch. She’d imagined this day a thousand times, a thousand ways, but this instant physical reaction hadn’t been part of the equation. He still held her arm, and he was standing closer than was necessary. But she sure as hell wasn’t going to complain. “You’re taller than I expected.” He’d anticipated this meeting too? Out of all the fantasies she’d ever had, his knowing who she was immediately and making some comment like that hadn’t been one of them. She swallowed. Not even in her worst bouts of writer’s block did words desert her so completely. “Thanks,” she managed to squeeze out, then remembered to smile at him and at least attempt to be flirtatious.“For saying you’re tall?” She laughed. “No. For picking up my sorry, klutzy ass from the snow bank.” “Yeah, what the hell happened?” Brian asked from beside her. His voice broke the spell and Vince let go of her. The separation was like a physical blow and she shivered in the sudden coldness. She turned her attention to Brian. “Sorry. I was… admiring the scenery. I didn’t realize you had stopped until I looked back toward the path and was nose to back with you. I couldn’t stop in time. You okay?” “Yeah, I’m fine.” He brushed some snow from the front of his coat. “As I was saying, up ahead is the main lounge. It’s where all the meals will be served. There’s always hot chocolate, coffee, and tea on tap, as well as bottled water and all that. You’ll be sharing a cabin with a few of the crew. It’s over there.” He pointed to a set of cabins next to where the blonde actress was staying. Damned if Jaz could remember the woman’s name. After Vince had stepped down off the porch, Jaz had gotten a good look at Vince’s latest co-star.Out of the corner of her eye, Jaz saw Vince staring at her. That same look of wonder was in his eyes, but she didn’t turn her gaze back to his. He’d just been professing his love to someone else. It was one thing to fantasize about a man, create a character around him, and fall in love with him in her dreams. It was another thing entirely to interfere in his real-world relationship with someone else. She would keep her distance.
“I’ll show you the rest of the way to your cabin if you’d like,” Brian said. Damn. The man had taken the words right out of Vince’s mouth. He wanted to be the one to show Jaz to her cabin. It was a stupid reaction, but one he couldn’t quite quell. She was almost as tall as he was. When she’d posed with those wolves for her author photo, she’d been kneeling in the dirt. He’d had no idea that she was so tall. Her thick, dark hair ruffled in the night breeze, adding an ethereal quality to her looks. A chill climbed over his bare head, but he couldn’t quite bear to put up his hood yet and restrict his view of her. Jasmine’s Native American heritage was apparent in her tan skin, breathtaking square face, and dark, slightly almond-shaped eyes. Together, the effect was mesmerizing. Though right now he couldn’t see most of her face beneath her hat and scarf, he knew what she looked like. She glanced at him and he smiled. “Thank you, again…”“Vince. You can call me Vince.” “Okay then, Vince. Thanks. I suppose I’ll see you around?” God, he hoped so. He nodded and she turned away. It would be entirely too awkward for him to stand there another second, so he headed for his own cabin to reread tomorrow’s scene. “I’m actually starving, is there still food about?” she asked Brian as they walked toward the other end of the camp. “Sure.”“Great. I’ll just drop my bags, and then could you show me over to the lodge?”And if Vince happened to be there, having another cup of hot chocolate and Jasmine happened to come in to have a late dinner, there’d be nothing wrong with that, right?“I’d be happy to,” Brian said. By the man’s voice, he really hadn’t minded being pancaked into the snow by the lovely Ms. Graves.

When Jasmine Graves is invited to the set of the movie based on her book series, she thinks all her dreams have come true. The Vince Demarco, the man she's based her hero on for the past seven years, will be there and she can't wait to meet him. Little does she know that she'll have to face her worst fears to keep her leading man.
Vince Demarco has never been as intrigued by a character or an author before being introduced to the haunted werewolf he's been cast to play. So when he comes face to face with its creator, Jasmine Graves, he's awestruck. But he fears an author who's a reported recluse will want nothing to do with the paparazzi madness and crazy shooting schedule that comes with dating a movie star.

Hex and the Single Witch Won 1st Place in the Erotic PNR Catagory

Hex and the Single Witch won 1st Place in the Erotic PNR Catagory for Best of 2013 from The Paranormal Romance Guild

Anwyn Rose is descended from a long line of powerful witches yet she can barely cast spells young witchlings have mastered. She has one functioning witch gift, the power of knowing, which has enabled her to find a position as a Detective on Flint’s Preternatural Investigation Team.
It’s a new era in Vehicle City. After the auto factories shut down, the human residents left the city by the thousands making it the perfect new haunt for supernaturals of all sorts, especially vampires- who now ran the city.
Paranormal crime is on the rise. An old evil has slithered in along with a serial killer, who appears to be a vampire, and is draining young women in the city.
Anwyn is on the case with her sexy partner Detective Mike Malone. Complicating things is her relationship Galen, a vampire who looks more guilty than innocent, although Anwyn trusts her instincts even if her power is on the fritz.
Mysterious spells, compromising situations, and a possible demon on the loose make it hard to focus on the case, but Anwyn has to make things right before the human police execute the wrong vampire.
Hex and the Single Witch contains magick, a little bit of mystery, a lot of supernatural mayhem, and a sexy love triangle that will leave you wanting more.

Dark Cravings by Madeline Price: At the Bar with Julian and a Giveaway
I want to say thank you to Roxanne for hosting me today on her blog :-)
Today, we are at the bar with Julian. He’s sexy, has lots of attitude and would do just about anything to have Ella at his side.
ROLE
Vampire, Ella’s ex-lover and sire
FAVORITE QUORE/SCENE (this one is R rated folks…) “After I kill the hunter, I’ll fuck you in his blood, make you lick it off my cock. You always did like it rough.”
PREFERRED BEVERAGEBlood, Female O Neg
CHARACTER INSPIRATIONAlexander Skarsgard (I know, I know…he’s taken by Sookie. He’s just so damn sexy!)
CHARACTER INSPIRED COCKTAIL/SHOOTER
Vampire Blood Martini—The sweet tart pomegranate flavor combined with the fresh citrus taste of blood oranges gives the cocktail a beautiful deep red color and a delicious bite. Garnish with pomegranate seeds and a sugar coated slice of blood orange. I’ve also included two different ways to “decorate” your martini glass for added effect.
VAMPIRE BLOOD MARTINI
1.5 oz vodka1.5 oz pomegranate juice1.5 oz blood orange juice (1 freshly squeezed blood orange)1 tablespoon agave syrup1 lime wedge
Mix all ingredients in martini shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds and pour into chilled martini glass (don’t forget to dampen the rim of your glass and dip it in decorative red sugar crystals). Squeeze in lime wedge. Garnish with pomegranate seeds and sugar coated blood orange slice. Voila!
Alternate idea…instead of using red sugar crystals—try this method for a dripping blood effect.
1 c. Sugar
1/2 c. Karo Syrup
1/2 c. Water
Red Food ColoringCandy thermometer (can be found at most grocery stores)
Combine sugar, syrup and water. Cook without stirring to hard crack stage – which is 300 degrees F. Add food coloring to desired color. Turn off heat. While the mixture is still hot, dunk the top of the cocktail glass into the mixture to create the red rim. If you need to do several glasses, keep the mixture hot so it lasts longer (instead of turning heat off, just reduce slightly). You can go anywhere from just along the very tip of the rim to part way down the glass – whichever you prefer. Flip the glass right side up to cool. The thick consistency of the mixture will cause “drips” as it hardens on the glass!

The Challenges of Writing a Novella with Susanna Fraser

The Challenges of Writing a Novella
I’d finished four novel-length manuscripts (three of which are now published) before I ever attempted a novella. Novels are my imagination’s natural groove—when I think of a story idea, the time frame, character development, and level of conflict just seem to fit 80,000-100,000 words.
Despite that, I decided to teach myself to write novellas. Since I have a nagging shoulder injury that keeps me from being the fastest writer ever, I wanted the option of being able to produce shorter works to intersperse with my novels and, hopefully, keep my readers from having to wait too long for their next Susanna Fraser fix!
Unfortunately my first few attempts at the shorter length fell flat—so flat that I never even completed them or submitted them to an editor. Looking back, my problem was that the ideas I attempted weren’t so much naturally suited to the shorter length as they were full-length novel ideas I wasn’t quite 9 months of my life and 90,000 words worth of interested in. Once I realized what I was doing, my reason for failure was blindingly obvious. I had to find ideas I loved that belongedin a novella format.
At its heart, the job of a romance story of any length is to convince the reader of the happy ending. No matter the internal conflict and external barriers keeping the hero and heroine apart on page one—and there had better be some significant conflict there, or the story will fall flat—by the time the reader reaches the last page she has to believe these people are meant for each other, and that all of those conflicts have either been resolved or rendered insignificant by the strength of their love.
It’s much easier to do that in 90,000 words than in 15,000. The characters have six times the space to defeat their inner demons and face down whatever enemies stand between their happiness. They have chapters and chapters more to show their chemistry through witty dialogue, hot sex, or both.
After looking at novellas that worked for me as a reader, I realized that almost all of them started with a hero and heroine who already had a history together, and that the conflict keeping them apart was relatively straightforward—not slight, because then you don’t have a story, but simple enough to solve in a shorter page count.
Based on that insight, I’ve now completed and sold three novellas—two that are already out, and another for Christmas 2014. The first, A Dream Defiant, is a marriage of convenience story with two friends forced to marry quickly and build a love from there. And my Christmas 2014 story is a reunion romance about a star-crossed pair torn apart as young lovers who meet again just a week before the heroine’s planned wedding to another man.
In Christmas Past, my story in The Twelve Days of Christmas Past anthology, the hero and heroine don’t have a long history with each other. Sydney, the heroine, is a PhD student from 2013 who’s only been back in 1810 for a few weeks on a research assignment. Despite rules that dictate she should avoid getting too close to the locals, she’s been flirting with handsome soldier Miles. When her time machine breaks, stranding her in the past, and he discovers her secret, he has to convince her to make her home in the past with him rather than sacrificing herself to protect the timeline. The story covers less than 24 hours, and it’s a snapshot of two people deciding to act on their attraction, with the ending a Happily For Now (with strong likelihood that they’ll choose a Happily Ever After down the road).
As challenging as novellas are, I’m going to keep writing them. At the moment I’m working on a full-length novel and enjoying stretching out into my longer word count and writing a BIG story…but I’m also looking at the hero’s younger sister and thinking about the novella I could write for her next.

Getting to Know the Dragon King from The Dragon's Heart by Eden Ashe

GETTING TO KNOW THE DRAGON KING
I’m a character junkie. I know that sounds weird, but it’s the best way I can describe it. Because while I love a good story, if I don’t love the characters—like lovethem madly—chances are I won’t finish reading. Or, as has happened to me several times, writing. Yes, I have given up on writing certain stories because I just wasn’t connecting with the characters. You see, I fully believe if I don’t love the characters I’m writing about, no one else will, either. And that’s my goal as a writer. It’s why I write. To create characters and stories that will stay with the reader the way some books have always stayed with me.Daniel Ashborne, the hero of The Dragon’s Heart isn’t just the dragon king. Out of all of the dozens of characters I have floating around in my head on a daily basis, vying for attention, he’s the last one I ever expected to get his story told first. Why? Because he’s a massive, quiet, stubborn, pain in my…
Ah. Yeah. You can probably see where I was going with that.
Daniel never cared about having a story. Unlike some of my other heroes, he never cared about what world he should fit into. He didn’t care about his looks. I even took a sister away from him at one point, and gave him a different one. He rolled with it. But mention Shelby Kincade’s name and the uber-frowny, difficult, permanently bad-tempered…dragon, we’ll go with dragon…lit up. She was the only thing he ever insisted on. She. Was. HIS.
And when I made the shift from writing contemporary romance to dark fantasy romance, and decided he and Shelby should be up first, his stubbornness came out to play in a big, big way. You see, it wasn’t enough for him to be an ancient, mythical dragon. Not if I was going to put Shelby in danger, anyway. No, in that case, he was going to have to be the biggest and scariest dragon in the known world.
He would have to be king.
And this, dear reader, is how that conversation went:
Me, also known as The Author: No. No, no, no, no, NO. Daniel, I cannot have a king who refuses to open his mouth and talk.
Daniel, also known as The Pain in my Butt, or The Dragon King: Is Shelby going to be in danger at any point, in any way, from anyone?
Me, sighing: You know she is.
Daniel raises a brow: Then I am the king.
Me: It doesn’t work that way.
Daniel: I don’t care. Make it.
Me, sighing louder: Daniel Ashborne, I cannot make you king just because your woman is in danger. If I make you king, then every one of you difficult, overbearing males are going to want to be king the second your mates get a hangnail. No. I’m sorry, but it’s not happening.
Daniel waits:
Me: I’m serious.
Daniel waits:
Me: Maybe Shelby doesn’t want you to be king. Ha! You didn’t think about that, did you.Daniel rolls his eyes: She wants me. This is me. I am the king. :He gives a very, VERY rare grin: Besides, she’ll love the idea of being queen.
Long story short… he was right, which only made him even more difficult to live with. Shelby did love the idea of being queen, so much that I had to add a scene in the book where she finds out. Her reaction was just priceless.
What about you, awesome reader? Would you want to fall in love with an immortal dragon king? Could you get into being the queen of a race of stubborn, massive, over-protective beings?

Book Description:
“We’re dragons. We don’t do the mushy friend thing.” - Daniel
The dragon-shifter king will do anything to keep his mate alive…even if it means war.
After millennia as king of the dragon-shifters, Daniel Ashborne wants a little peace and quiet, especially from the beautiful Hollywood starlet who haunts his memories. His escape tactics end abruptly when he is called to the ER to save the one woman he wants to forget, but who now bears his mark.
Shelby Kincade’s life and movie career were nearly destroyed when Daniel vanished a year ago. Now he’s back, claiming they have been accidentally mated. Getting over him once was hard enough, but she must choose either the life of her dreams or the man she can’t live without. With peace finally on the horizon between the dragon-shifters and the Hunters, an assassination attempt on the dragon king and his mate shatters everything. Tensions rebuild as Daniel and his loyal team of shifters try to discover who put out the hit. Enemy and ally lines are crossed, but in the end--after the battle ash has settled--no one could have foreseen who has plotted for their own gain.
CONTENT WARNING: Graphic fight scenes, lots of great sex, and hot, hot, hot dragon men. A Lyrical Press Urban Fantasy Romance

Convinced dragons have gotten a bad rep throughout time, and more than a little addicted to fairy tales and romance novels, Eden Ashe has decided to re-write history. In her version, the dragons are ancient warriors in tarnished armor, who not only deserve the girl in the end, but will fight forever for her.
