Ghostly Tales For A Good Cause

Ghostly Tales For A Good Causeby Juli D. Revezzo
Cancer. The big C. Chances are, you’ve known someone in your circle that has had it or you know someone who knows someone who does. It’s something no one wants to think about. There are several strains of it researchers know quite a bit about—breast cancer, lung cancer, ovarian cancer—and many more that they don’t. Fibrolomellartype Hepatocellular carcinoma it’s called. Ever heard of it? No? I’m not surprised. It’s a rather rare form of liver cancer and only seems to affect young people and has a very high death rate. One in particular, my little brother, dealt with it for many years. He went through every damned form of chemotherapy the doctors had for him, and quite a few experimental ones. A few years ago, the cancer killed him. Yet before that day came he enjoyed all the usual pursuits for a young man. He was incredibly in love with the Lord of the Rings and roller coasters. Tried, for many years—unsuccessfully—to get me on one. One of his biggest loves was horror movies and the holidays—particularly Halloween. For a few years he even worked at a professional haunted attraction in our hometown. He loved the Ghost Hunters and shows of its ilk and wanted to go on some paranormal hunting gigs, but never got around to it.
The one thing I regret (other than the roller coaster thing. ;)) is that he never got to read my Antique Magic series. I think he would’ve loved (my heroine) Caitlin and her ghosts. Hence why I dedicate them to him. This year, I wanted to do something a little different than just toast his birthday, though. The Fibrolomellar Cancer Foundation is always in need of donations for funding research and so forth so with the release of the next book in the series—Drawing Down the Shades— for the next few days, I’d like to donate my Amazon royalties from the sale of the series, to the group. So if you’ve been thinking about the stories, eyeing them, wondering whether or not to give them a try, why not? The proceeds will go to the FCF and hopefully, do some good. While you, my friends, you will get some great stories to pass a winter’s night.
The series comprises three stories so far, with a fourth coming next summer, if all goes well. Wanna peek?
The Artist’s Inheritance (Antique Magic, book 1)
The balance between good and evil can be an art... or a curse.
Trevor and Caitlin were once happy newlyweds, profiting from Trevor's art. Until Trevor inherits his brother's house, and with it, his part of a family curse. Now, Caitlin will stop at nothing to save her beloved husband from insanity and suicide, even if it means she must embrace her destiny and become a witch.
Caitlin’s Book of Shadows (Antique Magic, book 1.5)
Though their fame became legend, a rumor cropped up about the Fulmer family: Something terrifying stalked Caitlin and her beloved Trevor. Something the bits and pieces she left claimed she had to make sense of. When the curator of their collection finds Caitlin’s long forgotten diary, she wonders will it tell the whole tale? Will it tell why Caitlin seemed so determined to tell the difference between reality and nightmare? Why she thought her world twisted? If she really became a witch?
Perhaps the answer lies between the lines of her story, one of lessons, struggles, and hopes for each new year.
What truths will her Book of Shadows reveal?
Drawing Down the Shades (Antique Magic, book 2)
Life is good at Starfort Collectibles until the owners, Caitlin and Trevor Fulmer, acquire a beautiful statuette with a murky past. Shortly thereafter, mysterious hauntings wreak havoc on the couple when a ghost in the attic threatens retribution. Caitlin presses her coven for help before the ghost succeeds in meting out deadly punishment—on Trevor.

Excerpt:
“Here.” Ava plunked a cup of coffee down in front of me, the liquid so dark that it looked thick enough to cut.“Did you have to add the tar to this, or did it come already in the can?”She eyed me levelly. “I’m giving you a chance here, remember?”“Yes. I also remember rescuing you from a demon’s shadowman. Which hardly gives you reason to poison me with…whatever this is.” A grin touched my lips. I couldn’t seem to stop baiting her.“Karson!”My grin faded. “Demons like Thomas need to be banished from this dimension.”“Yes. You told me about that.”“How do you think they’re banished?”Her eyebrows scrunched together. “I hadn’t really thought about it.”“There are two ways. One way is what you saw in that back room. The other is to chop off their heads. Guess which method offers a small chance of getting back the man whose body the demon inhabits?”“I’m guessing it’s not the headless option,” she said dryly. Then a dawning horror touched her expression. “Jesus. So you have to what, torture the demon out of a person? Do you light them on fire?”“God, no. The symbols weaken it. The circle of salt and candles help to keep it confined during the exorcism. And the burning sensation you experienced in your vision…well, during the latter part of the exorcism, their bodies sort of burn from the inside out. It doesn’t really create much smoke or a real active fire, but from their perspective…”“It would feel like being burned alive.”“Probably.”“Wouldn’t it be easier just to chop off their heads?” Her tone suggested a breezy question, but her eyes watched me carefully. As if weighing me based on how I answered her question.“Yes. But if I wanted an easy job, I’d do something—hell, anything—other than this. And—”“And?”I shook my head. “Nothing.”“Are you aware your tattoos move?”“They appear to move when I’m drawing power through them, but it’s basically an optical illusion caused by the magic.” Not exactly true, but the truth was complicated magical bullshit that I didn’t even fully understand. Or give much thought to.“You know that’s freaking weird, right?”“Yep.” I sipped the coffee and—just barely—kept from gagging.“Why do you do this?”“My reasons are my own.” That’s all there was to be said about that. And it wasn’t debatable. She seemed to sense that needling wouldn’t get me to talk about that particular subject, and she got up from where she’d sat on the chair across from the couch.“Are you hungry?” She walked to the small kitchen table and picked up her cell phone. “I think I’ll order a pizza.”I needed to hammer a warning into her head and get the hell out of here. Come up with a new plan to get Thomas. I knew that. But for some reason, I couldn’t make myself leave. Hell, I didn’t wantto leave. “Sure, just don’t get anything weird on it.”“Weird? Such as?”“You know. Vegetables.”

CPA-turned-romance-author Tiffany Allee used to battle spreadsheets in Corporate America, and now concentrates on her characters’ battles to find love. Raised in small-town Colorado, Tiffany currently lives in Phoenix, AZ, by way of Chicago and Denver. She is happily married to a secret romantic who tolerates her crazy mutterings.
She writes about ass-kicking heroines and the strong heroes who love them. Her work includes the suspense-driven From the Files of the Otherworlder Enforcement Agency series which revolves around a group of paranormal cops solving crimes and finding love, and Don’t Bite the Bridesmaid, a lighthearted paranormal romance (Entangled Publishing).
Tiffany has an MBA in accounting and nearly a decade of experience in corporate finance. All super useful stuff for a writer who spends far too much time trying to figure out fun ways to keep her characters apart, and interesting ways to kill people (for her books—of course!).

Top Ten Things to Learn from Wounded Wings by Shauna Allen

Thank you so much for having me today as I celebrate the release of my newest book, Wounded Wings: Book III of the Cupid Chronicles! I am thrilled to be here!
So, you may be checking out my cover (pretty gorgeous, if I do say so myself!) and wondering what’s that all about? Wings? Great question! Well, let me let you in on a little secret . . . Wounded Wings wasn’t originally planned as a part of my Cupid Chronicles. Yes, I write books about a matchmaking Cupid named Michael. But, it was always intended to be a trilogy, and Elijah’s story was nowhere on my radar! But, one day someone asked me a really interesting question:
“What is the worst thing an angel can do?”
“I dunno,” I answered honestly, just in the midst of my first Cupid novel, Inked by an Angel.Well, we began to chat about it, and my imagination took over, world-building for my Cupids, and eventually my Angelic Commandments were created. Then, suddenly, Elijah was born, who had, in fact, done one of the “worst” things an angel could do. Well, of course, as a writer, I had to know what would happen next!
So, you can guess what happened then! My trilogy became a four-book series, and Wounded Wings became book three, bumping the originally planned book to fourth in line. Ah, well, thems the breaks!
And, let me tell you, delving into a fallen angel’s heart and mind, especially as he deals with his new found humanity wasn’t always easy. And it was pretty emotional, too. He was definitely an interesting hero for me! But he turned out to be worth it. And, I learned a lot along the way. I compiled a list of things I learned, and hopefully you will too by reading Wounded Wings, and I present them to you today. I hope you enjoy them, and I hope you will pick up your very own copy to read. If you do, please let me know what you think of my wounded angel.
~Shauna
Top Ten Things to Learn from Wounded Wings
10. Scars are often more than just skin deep.
9. Sometimes, even an angel has to do the dishes.
8. Be careful if you out-bake the baker. You might end up wearing a bowlful of chocolate ganache.
7. God’s punishments can be swift, severe and painful. But our own self-inflicted judgments can be much more brutal.
6. A dunk tank if you can’t swim = bad idea. Swimming lessons with a beautiful woman who confuses your newly human body? Maybe a worse idea.
5. Don’t put your dreams on hold for anyone. Even someone who looks like he could rock an Abercrombie ad.
4. It’s not walking a mile in someone else’s shoes—it’s walking a moment in their pain, that truly helps you understand.
3. Fall in love with a man (or an angel) who is a chef. You’ll at least be well fed.
2. If a sexy loner rolls into town looking like Henry Cavill and dressed like a Calvin Klein model, but acting like he’s never kissed a girl, don’t judge him too harshly. Maybe he’s got a Heavenly secret.
1. An angel in charge of his fallen brother’s love match? A sure sign God can forgive anything.

Book Description:
Wounded.
Judged harshest by his own heart after the greatest of sins, Elijah Smith imposes the most brutal of punishments upon himself. He is now a fallen angel, cast down by his own hand—lost, suffering, caught between two worlds, and searching for redemption.
Scars.
Scarred emotionally and physically, Naomi Evans has always put her happiness aside to repay her debt to the one who saved her. Never quite fitting into her friendly little town after being abandoned as a child, she’s not sure love will ever find her aching heart.
Redemption.
New Destiny, Arizona will never be the same. Two strangers have rolled into town, shaking Heaven and Earth. One, a handsome loner is temporarily stranded and biding his time, quietly bestowing random acts of kindness on total strangers until he can be on his way. The second, an undercover Cupid named Michael, is determined to bring healing and true love.
His assignment? A fallen brother and his equally wounded soulmate.
Will Naomi be able to see past both their scars? Can Elijah ever forgive himself?
Is such redemption possible?

Book Description:
The first book in a new contemporary series from award-winning author Crista McHugh, that’s a sexy, modern twist on Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
Lia Mantovani has created one of the hottest restaurants on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, but all that could disappear if she loses her lease with Kelly Properties. Having had her dreams ripped away from her before, she’ll do everything in her power to keep her restaurant. Her fate hangs on the whims of the frustratingly handsome Adam Kelly.
Adam has spent years trying to convince world famous chef Amadeus Schlittler to open a restaurant in Chicago, but he wants the prime location held by Lia. Business has always come first… until sparks fly when Adam meets her. When things get hot outside the kitchen, though, they’re both in danger of getting burned.
Excerpt 4:
Her back was to him as she stirred something in a pan, her hips swaying as though she were dancing instead of cooking. She’d pulled her hair up into a ponytail, but a few rebellious curls had managed to break free along the nape of her neck. The button-down shirt she’d been wearing earlier was tied around her waist, the underlying tank top allowing him a better view of her smooth, sun-kissed skin. She hummed as she worked, each flick of her spoon releasing the aromas of garlic and fresh herbs into the air. She turned around from the stove and froze when she saw him. “Is something wrong?”The platter grew heavy in his hands, reminding him of why he’d come in the first place. “I was wondering if you had any more.”She grinned and carried her pan to the center island. “If you fill up on the antipasti, you’ll have no room for the prima.”Somewhere in the back of his mind, he remembered that the prima course in Italy usually involved pasta. But the dish she was plating now resembled rice. He came closer to inspect it. “And is this it?”She nodded. “Orzo con verdure estive arrosto.”“In English?”“Orzo with roasted summer vegetables.” She placed a small hill of the orzo pasta with chunks of summer squash, zucchini, artichoke hearts, asparagus, tomatoes, and mushrooms onto each plate before offering a spoonful to him. “Care to try?”“As long as there’s no shrimp in it.” “Mom mentioned that some of you weren’t big fans of shrimp. Don’t worry—this is completely vegetarian.”A harmony of flavors sang on his tongue when he sampled it. Bright basil, rich parmesan, zesty lemon, and smooth olive oil all balanced each other out and left him wanting to grab the spoon and scrape the pan clean. She watched him expectantly, her assured smile tempting him to sample more than just her cooking. He stepped back before he lost control of himself. “It’s very good.”“I know.” She placed the pan in the sink and drizzled some olive oil over each plate of orzo. “It’s one of my most popular dishes.”He watched the way she wiped the edges of each plate clean before adorning the pasta with a few shavings of parmesan and a sprig of basil. “Did you have any special culinary training?”“I spent three years in Italy, learning from my aunts first before finally getting enough courage to enroll in more formal classes there.”“And is this what you’ve always wanted to do?” “Not always, but once I discovered my passion, I’ve never been able to let go.” She looked up from her work, her smile widening. “Have you ever felt that way about something, been caught totally by surprise and never realized how deep you were into it until it totally consumed you?”Before today he might have said his work consumed him, but it didn’t capture his attention and make his breath catch like Lia did. His pulse raced, not from stress but from excitement and anticipation, as she spoke of her passion. If he could only have a tenth of that passion…He narrowed the space between them as though they were two opposite poles of a magnet, the force too strong for him to resist. “I think I might have an idea of what you’re talking about.”She licked her lips, a seductive move he’d seen dozens of women practice in his presence, but with Lia it seemed to be unconscious. “Oh?”God help me, does she have any idea what she’s doing? He was close enough now to catch the faint scent of peaches that rose from her skin. His cock throbbed. He hadn’t been this worked up about a girl since high school. He dug his fingers into his palms to keep from acting like a complete Neanderthal and kissing her right there.

Interview and Giveaway with Becca Smith

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
I’m from Seattle, Washington, but moved to LA soon after college. I’ve been writing my whole life and can’t imagine doing anything else!
I love writing anything paranormal! 4 out of the 5 books that I’ve written are in this genre. Fantasy was the first genre I fell in love with, but as I got older I found myself reading more and more paranormal books. Not just reading, television and movies as well. Buffy is still one of my all time favorite shows!
What is it about the paranormal, in particular vampires, that fascinates you so much?
There’s something so attractive about eternal youth and immortality. Plus, super-strength is a plus as well!
What inspired you to write this book?
I’ve always been fascinated by Greek mythology. I love writing books about history or legends in a way that makes the reader think “this is what really happened.” To tackle Atlas was a challenge, but I’m really excited at the world I created. It lends itself to many more books in the series.
Please tell us about your latest release.
Atlas is an urban fantasy about a super-soldier, Kala Hicks, who finds herself thrown into a world of gods, demons and angels, and they’re all trying to kill her. It’s a mixture of technology and magic. My favorite kind of mash-up.
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
In this book I named the gods, angels and demons from actual mythology. I usually stick to common, relatable names for every character except my main character. I want the main character to have a little bit of a uniqueness, so I usually just try to make it up.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
I loved writing Asmodeus. He’s the King of the Demons and a total a-hole, but completely charming at the same time. I can’t wait to start the sequel so I can get back to writing him!
Can you tell readers a little bit about the world building in the book/series? How does this world differ from our normal world?
World building is my favorite part of writing books. Though Atlas is technically not a prequel, it is in the same world as my other book series The Riser Saga, so there are some familiar characters that pop up. The Atlas series is set in present day, but the main character quickly finds out that what she has always known as mythology or legend is actually real. What I liked most about building this world was the fact that I was able to make it ALL real, not just specific legends or mythologies. From Grigorian angels to Greek gods, it’s a mish-mash of everything.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
I think every writer suffers from writer’s block from time to time. The best way to deal with it, for me, is to start a new short project. Just for a few days or even a week. I call it a palate cleanser. It’s how I wrote my Vampire Diaries fan fiction for KindleWorlds! It was enough to get my juices going and get back to my book.
Do you write in different genres?
I mainly write in the fantasy/sci-fi/paranormal genre, but I have another series called The Alexis Tappendorf Adventures that is straight up adventure. It’s a kids book in the lines of The Goonies, where two girls have to break codes, run from bad guys and find the lost treasure of Thomas J. Beale.
Where is your favorite place to read? Do you have a cozy corner or special reading spot?
I’ve created a mini-library in my condo. It started out as a simple nook in-between two bedrooms, but after I put in two book shelves and a comfy chair with side table, it has become my favorite spot. For my birthday my family all chipped in and bought me a full size lamppost to put in my library. A nod to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I finally found my door to Narnia!
What can readers expect next from you?
I’m currently in research mode for the sequel to my children’s book series The Alexis Tappendorf Adventures. She’s searching for Atlantis, so I’m having a lot of fun learning everything I can about the legend.
But the next book that will be released will probably be the book I’m working on now with my writer friend F. M. Sherrill. It’s going to be another series and we are having so much fun writing it. Though both of us write fantasy and paranormal books it’ll be our first vampire novel!

Kala Hicks is part of a covert elite military team that answers directly to the President of the United States. But during an emergency mission aboard Air Force One, Kala is shocked to discover that the real threat is none other than the President himself. Defying her commanding officer, Jack Norbin, Kala takes the shot, and her life changes forever.
The moment the President is killed, a supernatural force speaks to Kala, telling her that she has to commit one act of atrocity every four days… or the world will end. Thrown into a reality she never could have imagined, Kala faces off with creatures of legend; from demons determined to make her fail and plunge the Earth into chaos, to angels who don’t trust her to do the job and are willing to kill her to claim it for themselves.
Pitted against the forces of good and evil, Kala must choose whether to save the world by doing the unthinkable, or sit back and let it burn. And four days later, she’ll have to do it again.

A Quick Review: The Shy Writer Reborn: An Introverted Writer's Wake-up Call by C. Hope Clark

by C. Hope Clark
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
An excellent resource for writers who are shy and for those wishing to understand the shy writer.
I am an introvert. Creating publicity for myself and my books is something that makes me cringe. I hate being in the spotlight. I shy away from events and conventions all the time even though I know I need to get out there for my books and my business.
But this book helps me tackle my issues one by one and gives advice and even exercises that help the shy writer break out and be able to be in the spotlight. Now that I've read the book I'm going to go back and use the exercises and work on my issues so I can stop being the shy writer and become the successul writer.
Chances are I'm still not going to enjoy the spotlight like an extrovert does but I think I can make it work for me and my books- and that's the most important thing.
I highly recommend this book to all the shy writers out there.

Guest blog and Giveaway with Paula Millhouse

Hey Roxanne and Readers. Happy New Year.
One of the pet peeves I have personally about the romance genre in general is, when, after the hero and heroine get together all of a sudden one of them decides to call it quits. Usually for some lame reason. God, I hate that part of the book and it’s like, in ALL of them. WTH?
This is a point on which a lot of romances fail, IMHO. It’s what drives me to read thrillers, and not straight romance. It’s why I like edgy dark paranormal romance, too. I just don’t think authors get that point straight.
I was chatting with my writing buddy Lynn about this very thing, and what she said I found remarkable. Her theory is that if the lovers are going to separate after they hook up in order to create tension for the reader it should be intimately tied to their external arc.
I think (I hope) I nailed this concept in Careful What You Wish For…
My hero and heroine, Nick and Evie – hell, once they get together sparks fly. And seriously, nothing is going to tear these two apart…until…umm, well, THIS is where the Suspense in the Romantic Suspense comes in.
See, Evie’s got some baggage. A psychotic mafia kingpin, Paulie Marino wants Evie’s head on his wall as his sixteenth trophy. But Evie’s smart, and she gets away from the creep even after he drugs and kidnaps her. Hell, she steals his mother’s Mercedes! (Boy, is Miss Aida Marino pissed about Evie stealing her car!)
Well Paulie, being the Sociopathic Alpha Male of his own personal psychotic ward, comes after Evie with Miss Aida’s top Hit Man, Tony Aiello driving the getaway car. Let’s just say that when the ultimate shoot-out happens at the climax in Careful, the reader is so tied to the suspense of will Paulie catch Evie, or will Nick ultimately save her, that, hopefully, they won’t be able to put the book down until they know how that chase turns out.
I want my readers going away from this book a breathless mess.
I mean, if you’re gonna write a romance, give it some backbone. Please.Yes, it’s a Romance. Yes, it’s a Thriller. I hope like hell this story has enough interconnected suspense to propel the reader into dying to know what happens next.
Here’s a deep cut I hope shows what I mean by Putting the Suspense in Romantic Suspense:
Chapter 61
NO WITNESSES
Evie held Meg’s pistol and stared Paulie Marino dead in the eye.
“Leave my family alone, you bastard!” She pulled the trigger three times before a hot stinging sensation tore through her left shoulder. She fell backward with the force of Paulie’s bullet, and the gun flew from her hands.
“You winged me!” Paulie laughed, showing off the blood streaming from the flesh wound. He rushed her, kicked the gun away, and reached down for her. White hot blinding pain tore through Evie, and Paulie dragged her to her feet by the hair.
“Thrilled you missed, because, little Evie, you’re coming with me. We have some unfinished business back at my guest cottage.”
“NO! Nick! NO!” She screamed through the pain of him tearing at her hair. Paulie ground the barrel of his pistol into the wound on her shoulder. Evie’s knees buckled. Searing pain stole her breath.
Paulie snatched her back up to him, sneered in her ear with hot, revolting breaths. “He can’t help you get away this time, Evie. He’s down. Wounded, and she dies if he moves.”
Evie clawed up at him. Tore gashes in his arm with her nails. If you don’t get away from him he’ll kill you. Make no mistake – if things don’t change you are going to die.
He dragged her head around, forcing her to face Nick and Meg. “Look at what you’ve done to them. I’ll let you watch me kill them both. You’d like that, wouldn’t you? Put them out of their misery fast. You don’t want them suffering, do you, Evie?”
Evie gagged. She screamed out, tried a kick, anything to get him to stop. She started to crumble when she realized Paulie excelled at this game. He’d probably thought it all out. Knew every move she could make. Her stomach crawled up inside her chest threatening to suffocate her lungs.
Paulie boomed laughter out in the afternoon air. “Which one first, Evie? You’re the writer here. Tell us how this story ends?”
She went for the only thing she had. Herself. “No! Take me! Leave them alone – I’ll go with you – just, please, don’t hurt them anymore. They never did anything to you.”
Reptilian snarls bubbled out of his throat. “They kept you from me. They have to die. We can’t leave any witnesses to this massacre. I wouldn’t have the time I’ll need with you if I let them live. You and I are going to spend some special time together, my little dove. You’ve seen my handiwork. That kind of production takes hours.”
Evie wrestled against his grip, trying to get past the searing pain. She shrieked, clawing at the monster. She had to get away, had to save them. Just do something. If he takes you from them you’re going to die. She wrenched away from him, tried to claw at his face. She was simply no match for the madman’s strength. She offered up a silent prayer for Nick and Meg and Patrick and tried not to hate herself for bringing this pestilence upon them.
Paulie snatched her ear close to his lips. “Now, Evie! What do you want? Which one dies first?”
Thanks for hosting me today on your site, Roxanne. Fang-Tastic Books is the bomb. I hope your readers enjoyed our post, and I hope they find the suspense they’re looking for in some of my stories.
Happy New Year!

An Interview and Giveaway: The Null City Books by Barb Taub

GABY: “Sure, but I wonder if I could just get Lette to switch places with Leila first? She's so tall that if she goes in the middle there will be a better balance for the seating arrangement. And while she's doing that, I'll just rearrange the coffee tray so that the three cups are in front, and the coffee carafe is anchored on either side by the milk jug and the sugar bowl. Now, where were we? Oh yes, my resolutions. I'm not sure there's anything I need to work on. Leila, stop coughing “OCD” into your sleeve. I'm a harmonia, you demon-spawn, which means I need balance, preferably in groups of three or five, if I'm going to see the hidden patterns behind things. I promised Dad before he was murdered that I'd give up the breaking and entering, so I suppose my resolutions could be to save Null City, and then to just chill, or whatever crap it is that people say when they don't have properly organized lists of what to do next. Speaking of which, I'd better update my Resolutions list, so Leila why don't you go ahead?”
LEILA: “Hey, y'all. Leila Rice here. Yes, our Gaby is a list maker. Whatever you do, don't let her start reading that list out loud or we'll be here all day. [Dodges Gaby's elbow with practiced ease...] My resolution is the same one I've had ever since I met with that stick-up-his-butt lawyer in London who thinks Gaby is all that. He asked me if I wanted tea with biscuits and a case of jewelry from my birth mother. And her chateau. In France. But all I've ever wanted is to make it back to my adoptive parents in Atlanta and break the news to them that they raised a sort-of demon whose boyfriend is a kind-of angel. Only I guess there are a few things I have to worry about first—Gaby and I have to save Null City, there's that whole prophecy about me ending the world, and also I'm going to miss my first day of college by about 125 years. And if somebody had mentioned at the beginning that the angels were going to be on the other side, I think it would have been... Pretty. Damn. Helpful.”
EIRIE: Yes, well... Leila are your eyes glowing? Maybe you should take a moment to... calm down and get centered or whatever demons do to avoid meltdown, especially with that whole ending-the-world thing you've got going. Maybe we should move on? Lette, can you tell us about your resolutions?
LETTE: “Well, if Leila thinks her inheritance is trouble, she should try having fingertips that change whatever I touch into something different each day, from bunnies to bubbles to bombs. That's why my resolution for next year is to move here to Null City. Stefan says that after one day in Null City, those with extra gifts turn into their closest human counterparts. For example, imps become baristas. (Of course, they’re now ex-PhD candidates in literature or classics who claim to be experts on third-world coffee blends and obscure world music groups. But hey – there is only so close to human that hellspawn can get…) There is this annoying ex-angel who says that won't work out for me, but I still want to give it a shot.
EIRIE: I see you brought your charming little cat with you. Do you have a resolution for him too?
LETTE: Why am I the only one who gets that George is actually just an adorable tail attached to eight pounds of pure mean? Technically he belongs to my mom, but I accidentally touched him into a cat-shaped s'mores once, and he had to stay in the freezer for a while. And even though I managed to touch him back into a cat, he has to stay near me or he freezes up again. Now he's more like a disgruntled roommate. If my resolution was for him to be happier, would that make him gruntled? Since it's George, we'll never know.
EIRIE: I'm afraid that's all we have time for today. If you'd like to learn more about Null City, or about my own story, please tweet @barbtaub or email barbtaub (at) gmail (dot) com, and I'll send you a free copy of They Fight Crime! A Null City story. (Be sure to include your email and what eReader format you prefer.) Thanks for joining us, and I hope we'll see more of you in Null City.
We're also giving away a mobi or epub copy (winner's choice) of They Fight Crime! a Null City Short Story and an ecopy (one of each- winner's choice of format) the Null City books One Way Fare, and Don't Touch-enter via the Rafflecopter below

Book Description:
New vampire Jo Mason had never imagined life with fangs, or drinking blood as her main meal. She has, however, dreamed of her first kiss, her first date and her first high school dance—but for a new vampire, none of those firsts come easy. Humans now tempt her appetite for blood and the Plutariums, a rogue team of vampires, want revenge against her family.
When her human friend Ben Jackson asks her to the May dance, Jo struggles to abide by vampire law. She isn’t sure if she wants to kiss him or taste his blood. She’s even more confused by the mixed messages coming from Vampire SEAL Webb London. The way he looks at her makes her want to jump off the nearest cliff and into his arms at the same time. Her guy problems, however, become the least of her worries when the deadly ones take center stage.
The Plutariums abduct and drug her. She wakes alone with Ben, stranded on an abandoned yacht in the middle of a storm-tossed ocean. Worse, she struggles to keep her bloodlust sated and it will be a battle to see who survives.

For those of you who know me, you know the ‘S’ stands for Susan in S. B. Alexander. I chose to use my initials since there were a few Susan Alexander authors out there.
The one thing I like about reading a book other than the story is reading about the author. Who is he or she? And, how did they become a writer?
For me, it’s always been a passion to write a book. I love to transport myself into other worlds—ones where vampires and the fantastical exist. Where life is the playground for the impossible.
I created fantasy worlds at a young age as a way to deal with life. Yep, I had imaginary friends and talked to myself a lot. I was always creating, thinking, drawing and writing. I believe words are the key to opening the door to extraordinary places with amazing characters that tell a great story.
My life has had a colorful journey. After high school I decided to forgo college. I enrolled in a business program and graduated in ten months with a certificate that allowed me access to Cooperate America. But, somehow the idea to enter into an unknown world at nineteen-years-old was daunting. Instead, I decided if the world was my playground why not join the military, and so I joined the Navy. The four years in the military was a great foreground to learn about life and the world around me. But, as the cliché says, Life goes on.
I traded the military for college. I became a High School Math Teacher and loved it before deciding to revisit the one thing I was frightened of—Cooperate America. I’ve held many roles in the cooperate arena from sales representative to sales manager, but I never lost my passion to write.
When I’m not working my full time job, and plotting my next novel, I love to play golf with my husband, and spend time with my two dogs.
