What makes a hero UNFORGETTABLE? Guest Blog with Renee Vincent

What makes a hero UNFORGETTABLE?
I’d first like to thank Fang_tastic Books for allowing me to visit with them. I’m super excited to meet fellow book lovers from this site and I hope you’ll enjoy my post pertaining to romance. If you like strong, sexy, irresistible, and yes, you guessed it—UNFORGETTABLE HEROES—then you’ve come to the right place today.
So, what makes a hero unforgettable? I’ve come up with five vital traits an unforgettable hero must have. See if you agree with me:
· An UNFORGETTABLE HERO must be an Alpha Male. We all love a man who's a leader, plays a significant role in our lives, and is never afraid to take chances. He must be assertive, yet able to yield when situations call for a compromise. He needs to be dominant, yet sensitive to our needs. And he must be courageous while always doing what's morally right.· An UNFORGETTABLE HERO must be a great lover. Let's face it, who wants a man who doesn't know how to knock our socks off with a first kiss, or shake the ground beneath us with his skilled love-making. As women, we long to have intimate encounters that are not awkward or immature. We want a competent man who knows what he's doing in the bedroom, is very eager to please, and is more interested in our satisfaction than his own. Which brings me to my next necessary trait...
· An UNFORGETTABLE HERO must be selfless. He needs to be able to recognize that not everyone is as physically strong, emotionally stable, or as generally fortunate as he is. He must be willing to give of himself. To sacrifice his time, talent, and/or his own pursuit of happiness for the benefit of others.
· An UNFORGETTABLE HERO must be able to admit when he's wrong. Traditionally, an Alpha Male believes what he does is always right, else he wouldn't have made that choice to begin with. But given he is only human, he is also prone to mistakes like everyone else. He needs to be able to concede that sometimes he's not above making a wrong decision. On the flip side, he must also be able to forgive those who've done wrong and help them on the path of righteousness.
· And most importantly, an UNFORGETTABLE HERO must love with all his heart. Now that doesn't mean initially he can't fight or resist love. Sometimes, that's what makes the hero interesting. Perhaps he resists because he doesn't feel his lifestyle can accommodate the presence of a female and her needs. Maybe he and the heroine come from different worlds and have nothing in common. Or simply put, maybe his heart has been broken so many times before, that the thought of falling in love again might damn near kill him. No matter what his excuse is for opposing intimacy and commitment, in the end he can't help but love her with every breath he takes.

The Celibate Succubus by Barton Paul Levenson

Vampires: Potential Dating Material, or Blood-Sucking Animated Corpses?
Barton Paul Levenson
Consider how the legend got started. When there was no cure for tuberculosis, victims of "consumption" became pale, thin, and listless, and would finally die. With disease and injury rampant in a preindustrial world, deaths might occur in the family. If a TB victim dreamed of being visited by a recently dead relative, a preindustrial culture might conceivably dig up the corpse to take a look.
An unembalmed corpse a few days after death might look suspiciously ruddy, in the pink of health--because its capillaries were breaking down and leaking into the surrounding tissue. The leap to thinking Uncle John has been visiting little Nancy at night and sucking her blood isn't a great one, especially if blood is seeping from John's mouth, as it well might be as his lip and mouth tissue decay. Thus the legend of the vampire.
It became a thorough and complex legend, as documented in Bram Stoker's 1897 epistolary novel, Dracula. But mark me well--vampires were originally considered bad guys. Blood-sucking animated corpses, damned, out to damn all their victims. To be avoided. Thus a Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox believer in vampires could use the crucifix, holy water, or the host to ward off a vampire. Folk remedies included garlic, white roses, the hawthorn, and a dog with a white "angel spot" above either or both eyes. And to kill a vampire, you drive an ash stake through its heart--and it has to be ash, or the vampire can pull it out again--stuff its mouth with garlic, cut off its head, place it face down in its coffin, and dump the coffin into running water.
But vampires, "the strongest of ghouls," are most powerful creatures. Twenty times as strong as humans; able to transform into a bat, a wolf, or a mist; with a certain degree of telepathic hypnosis which holds a once-bitten victim even at a distance. Kind of like a superhero--or a super-villain.
Fred Saberhagen's "The Dracula Tapes" (1975), a work of literary criticism disguised as a novel, first presented Dracula as a good guy. A year later, Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire" showed Louis de Plante du Lac as a tortured soul, the novel a view of damnation from the inside.
Why, if you think about it, the vampire is sort of like the biker who's a really bad kid, but has a good heart hidden inside, the kind of guy only your love can save! The transition to sparkly vampires you might want to marry, and the whole genre of "paranormal romance," follows inevitably sooner or late
So which do I prefer, sexy vampires or dangerous vampires? Or both? My first novel, Ella the Vampire, sympathized with its protagonist, but never pretended for a minute that her situation was a good one or that she was happy to be in it. My forthcoming novel, Dark Gods of Alter Telluria, has another sympathetic vampire--but again, don't think it's fun. My vampires aren't the completely depraved monsters of Bram Stoker or Stephen King--and, BTW, King's vampires are truly horrifying; check out the wrinkled-apple-like monsters in the Dark Tower series. But they're not ideal dating material, either. So I guess I come down somewhere in the middle.
Besides, drinking blood is just icky. I'm sorry, but it is. Period.

“Team Packer” is a covert Catholic strike team against supernatural evil with a secret weapon in its arsenal: 16-year-old Delilah Vincentio—the world’s only Christian succubus. Trained by demons to despise humanity and lead them into sin, her unprecedented capacity for mercy caused her to renounce her place in Hell—and gain an angelic referral to Team Packer.
Delilah is assigned to infiltrate the Order of the Lightbringer, a Satanic cult that plans to make Pittsburgh a test site for the Apocalypse. After Delilah’s identity is almost discovered, Team Packer sends her to high school to hide out until things cool down.
But while Delilah may be reformed from her beguiling ways, she’s still very much a demon—and she hasn’t learned how to play well with others. In fact, trying to fit in and keep a low profile at high school may prove to be a tougher battle than bringing down the Order of the Lightbringer.
“The demons in Hell are secretly defecting and pushing their infernal realm towards Heaven in a handcart! This story kept me riveted from start to finish—a ride and a half !”—Adele Abbot, author, Postponing Armageddon and Of Machines & Magics
“His name is almost like mine, he’s no relation, and he writes a kind of YA Fantasy all his own. Fast-moving, knowledgeable, historical, spiritual, heroic, Barton Paul Levenson’s Celibate Succubus is good reading at any age.” —Paul Levinson, author, The Plot to Save Socrates and Unburning Alexandria

Barton Paul Levenson’s novels include Max & Me, Year of the Human, Ella the Vampire, I Will and Parole. Mr. Levenson’s short fiction has appeared in Marion Zimmer Bradley’s Fantasy Magazine, ChiZine, Cricket, Cicada, The New York Review of Science Fiction, and many other publications. An original member of the Pittsburgh Worldwright’s writing workshop created by Mary Soon Lee, Barton has published more than 60 short stories, poems, and essays. He is also a two-time winner of the Parsec Short Story Contest.
Levenson holds a degree in physics and writes prolifically about everything from fictional works to radiative-convective models of planetary atmospheres. He has also learned to speak French, Spanish, Russian, German, New Testament Greek, and Japanese (though, he confesses, not well enough to converse with native speakers). Mr. Levenson is married to genre poet Elizabeth Penrose and lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he confuses everybody by being both a born-again Christian and a liberal Democrat.

Spotlight Interview on The Worst Dilemma by Muhammed Sokhna

Contact QuestionWhere can your fans find you?
There is a wide variety of ways my fans can reach me. The main way they can get in contact with me is through my website, theworstdilemmaseries.com. They can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Goodreads (which all can be found on my website).
Fun QuestionHave you ever Googled yourself?
Yes I have. What I find is mostly my author’s information and my books on Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon. But, couldn’t find my book on Kobo. That’s strange???
Future Works QuestionWhat is in the works for you next?
Currently, I’m working on The Worst Dilemma Part 2. I’m also working on two fantasy novels and a sci-fi novel.
Writing QuestionWhat do you love about writing?
I love the whole creation process. I love how I can paint a picture for readers with words. Which scenes were the hardest to write? For me, the most challenging part to write is the beginning of a scene. I had trouble working on establishing the scenery of a scene before I actually get to the story.
Inspiration QuestionWhere do you get your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from my suicide attempt five years ago. Every day, I write to remind myself just how powerful my passion is and how low I was in my past. I never want to walk through life feeling that low ever again. Writing becomes a remedy for me to get back on my feet. Regardless of what genre I write in, I want my readers to see how hard and passionate I am about the craft of literature.
Reading QuestionWhich genres do you prefer to read?
Erotica, Self-Help, Sci-Fi, and Fantasy.
About The Author Questions
How would your friends describe you in 20 words or less?
A kind, humble, and respectable young man with a special aura that can be felt through a smile.
Who is your mentor? Who do you look up too?
My mentor for me has been a man by the name of Bob Lamp’l. He has been given me the business fundamentals on how to market my book and how I should handle the publishing side of my business. I look up to him along with many other people in my life. But, my 11th and 12th grade literature teachers are the two people I look up to in regards to writing.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Hmm… I like to sing like I’m a Grammy award winner singer, knowing that I sound like a cat being dragged down the street by a bus.
Watching a romantic comedy movie when my girlfriend is not around.
Pretend to be a U.S soldier knowing that I have no combat skills.
Pretend I’m Aragon from The Lord of The Rings (don’t judge me).
About The Book
Tell us about your new release?
The first part of The Worst Dilemma is a love story that follows four young African American women who are on the constant search for themselves. The story takes place in the booming city of Atlanta, where many people are calling it the new Hollywood, but for these women, it’s a city that is filled with lies and deception that will forever change them in positive and negative ways.
Aside from the city drama, you have four different women who have problems ranging from sexually to unresolved past dilemmas. Even the men in they encounter in their lives will bring them trouble, but they will also bring them pleasure besides sex, but the sex is still orgasmic.
The book was inspired also by how my generation is lacking creation, in my opinion. The world, in my eyes, is like a gargantuan pie. Everyone can have a slice of this pie, but people think there isn’t enough so they fight over a small slice. There is plenty of money, food, and other resources to go around. We just need to create. After all, that is what we were meant to do.

Book Description:
The spark of all dilemmas is lies and deception
Just what is love? Is it just a word people use for personal gain? Is it a verb that needs creativity expression in order to understand its full meaning? Or, is it just looking in the mirror?
For Chantrelle Hayfield, love is simplicity. But, she lives in Atlanta, a complex city full of surprises. Like her chiseled, tall, and chocolate next door neighbor, Rasheed Goodmen, who could be a new love interest? But, when her best friend, Ashley Leslie, comes out about her true feelings, will Chantrelle be able to handle the convoluted feelings of others even if that means losing her simplicity?
Chantrelle’s other friends Ariel Samson and Alexis Smith could be able to guide her? But, Ariel needs to learn to be a little selfish and Alexis has to stop scheming to get by. The underworld of Atlanta will test each of these women. Because behind the spark of every dilemma, is lies and deception. Who will be able to see clearly in order to avoid tragedy?

Throughout Mr. Sokhna life, he searched for a purpose. At the age of eighteen, he went through some tough times. His girlfriend left him, his finances were not where they needed to be, his family was struggling to make ends meet, he lost his Hope scholarship, and was desperately trying to find out what was his purpose here on earth. The depression within him started to build and lead to an attempt of suicide.
With the love and support of his family and close friends, he slowly climbed back on his feet, but there was still one remaining problem. He still didn’t know what his purpose was, until he had a vision.
Something within him told him to write down his story. There was resistance, but he followed the hunch. Five thousand words turn into ten thousand. Then ten turned into twenty thousand. Then all of a sudden, twenty thousand words turned into over forty thousand words. He recognized that he found his true passion. It was something that will challenge him. It was something he was yearning for all his life. It was something he could call “his own” and that something was writing.
Mr. Sokhna purpose is to ignite the creativity within people and help them realize that life is much more than what meets the eye. He wants his readers to know that all that we ever done and all we will ever do in this world is just the tip of this iceberg of what could have been done in this life.
The Worst Dilemma Series is one of the three ways he likes to channel his talent to the world. Being able to create erotic content that makes people blush is not only pleasing to him, but it makes him more humble to evolve the craft of literature. Mr.Sokhna will continue to strive to bring more enticing content through The Worst Dilemma Series. A series that will shed light on some of the toughest situations people go through in life. With the added bonus of erotic content.

Interview, Excerpt and Giveaway:Know When to Run by Connie Flynn

What inspired you to become an author?
I can thank the downsizing trend for becoming an author. When I knew my middle management job was at risk I also knew I wasn’t happy enough with what I did to keep doing it at another place. So I took an apptitude test that revealed why my job was so unfulling. It seems I am a creative type and middle management is about maintaining the status quo. This works, do more of it. That doesn’t work, fix of eliminate it. While life certainly needs this kind of management, I could only do so much for it. I crave the ups and downs of the creative process and while I developed a number of useful skills in management, I really opened up when I began to writing. The outcome was the sale of a book ultimately called HOMECOMING to Harlequin. I truly became a writer then, grateful I’d found my calling. I’ll write my fingers off until they come to pry my hard, cold hands off the computer keyboard because this is how I want to spend my life.
Do you write in different genres?
Several. I started out at Harlequin, writing a classic romance. With them, I broadened my scope into romantic adventure and romantic comedy. When I moved to Penquin I entered the paranormal romance market and when I chose to become an indie author I branched out into romantic suspense and cozy mysteries.
If yes which is your favorite genre to write?
The darker paranormal stories really dig deep and require a lot of energy—mental, emotional and physical. The romantic suspense and lighter mysteries give my mind a badly needed break that lets me take my full energy back to the bigger books.
How did you come up with the title for your latest book?
One of my critique partners and I stayed over after our group broke for the morning and we brainstormed the title for my new romantic suspense. The book has several large themes to draw from —amnesia, spousal abuse, patricide, legalized gambling—and as we knocked ideas around I talked about how the glamour of the floating casinos and the huge paddlewheel riverboats that housed them had always enchanted me. The talk drifted to Kenny Roger’s song, “The Gambler,” and we went through the famous lines of the chorus: Know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away and . . .
At that point, my friend and I locked eyes. We both knew we had the title and we said it aloud together. KNOW WHEN TO RUN was christened and now it’s about to be launched.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
I caution new writers about starting a book with a message in mind because the temptation to preach is too strong. My exact words are, “If you have a message don’t let your characters know what it is.” However (isn’t there always a ‘however?’) every time I finish a book I later notice that it does have a theme, usually something that relates to the happenings in my own life at the time. I suspect this is true for lots or writers. In retrospect I feel this kind of organic theme actually strengthens a book because it lets in the power of the writer’s personal journey. So, I guess my answer is both no and yes but I still stand behind my advice to avoid consciously incorporating a theme.
What books/authors have influenced your life?
The first book to absolutely sweep me away was GONE WITH THE WIND, and it inspired me to love stories with sweeping settings and larger than life characters and stakes so high they left me breathless. Nowadays I look to George R.R. Martin, J.K. Rowlings and Suzanne Collins for that kind of high tension and stakes. The Hunger Games does it so well that I frequently have tears in my eyes even in quiet scenes because the backstory and its threats just simmer on the page.
What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?
FIRST WE KILL ALL THE ZOMBIES, a Derek Shriver mystery. A few years back I was invited to write a mystery for a Christmas-themed anthology. I’m actually known for the delight I take in tormenting my characters. But at Christmastime? I just couldn’t write anything so grim as a bloody murder. So my entry into cozy mystery writing was born, along with a character I fell in love with. Derek Shriver is an ex-Green Beret, a practicing CPA and an amusement park owner. He loves his partner’s wife from afar and knows it can never be. But when a dead elf is found in Santa’s workshop, Derek’s life changes and the events that come after that lead him directly to his meeting with the zombies.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
Derek is now married to his ex-partner’s ex-wife and they are honeymooning at a nineteen-twenties themed amusement park that he wants to buy. Suddenly what they thought would be a testimony of their love becomes a kidnapping by an evil scientist who wants to use the unique talents of Derek and his wife for his own twisted ends.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Let your readers be your guide . . . First make sure it’s clear, then make it beautiful . . . Don’t be intimidated by better writers; let them inspire you . . . Stay connected to your story; when you stop for the day make notes of what happened and what’s coming up . . . Keep adjectives and adverbs to a minium (except when you’re writing blurbs and synopses) . . . And now I need someone to stop me, I could go on so, please somebody, stop me.
It’s time I thanked Roxanne for having me as her interview guest and all of you for dropping in.

Book Description:
She woke up one morning on a Mississippi riverboat casino with a huge headache and no clue to who she was.
With the help of new friends she rebuilt her life. Now, nearly two years later, a tall dark man with killer good looks comes after her. A bounty hunter, who claims she killed her father then ran out on her bail. She says he's got the wrong woman. He says she's guilty as sin. One of them is right . . .
Suddenly so many people are after her, she can't tell the good guys from the bad guys. But one thing she can do is KNOW WHEN TO RUN.
EXCERPT
The shooter has disappeared. Ky and Gabe have made it to shore and are waiting for the crew to come rescue them.
She could see the Belle's staff rushing up and down the boarding ramp preparing a rescue cart. Behind the rescue team, paced Rosie, hands flying everywhere as she gave directions. Hoping to relieve her friend's worry, Ky waved.
"Maybe you shouldn't draw attention to yourself," commented McGregor. "The shooter could be hiding among the crew."
Good advice, and another reason to think he was a cop. He remained in the water and took off one boot, then the other. They were lizard skin, and judging from his pained expression as he poured out muddy water like from a pitcher, they were the real deal.
"Lost my hat," he said, morosely. "My daughter gave it to me when she was a first grader."She wanted to take petty satisfaction in his misery, but the river had cost him, too. Although she'd bet a rack of poker chips that he looked a whole lot better sans hat and boots than she looked without her cosmetics.
The sunset glowed behind him, softening the harsh lines on his face. Without the Stetson, he looked less formidable. Almost as if he might truly be on her side.
Finished emptying the boots, he tossed them on the shore and walked over to Ky. He stopped within arm's reach, dug into his jacket pocket, then extended his hand. "These yours?"
He held her pushup pads. Both of them.
She'd only noticed losing one.
Her gaze dropped to the V of her blouse, which was no longer filled out by the pads, and now hung open to reveal her water-puckered nipples. She flushed, tugged the blouse together. "Let those things go. They're ruined anyway."
He grinned wickedly. "And pollute the mighty Mississippi? No can do."
Though at her expense, his humor was infectious. And very needed after they'd been shot at and half-drowned. She felt lighter, giddy even. She smiled despite herself.
"And, Red," he added with a broad, theatrical wink, "I must add that you've never looked more natural."
This time Ky laughed outright. She stripped off her remaining eyelash extensions and placed them on top of the foam lumps in McGregor's large hand. "If I must look natural, I'm going all the way. And you're in charge of carrying out the trash."
McGregor stared wide-eyed at the mess in his hand. "You want me to slay this beastie? Oh, no. Oh, no."
She laughed again, absorbed in the moment.
As if in blessing, the sun fell to the horizon in a last blaze of orange, red and yellow. She closed her eyes against the brightness, let the rays warm her chilled body.

Light. Warmth. Laughter. Well-being. Ky sensed these had been missing from her life for a long time.
She'd have to let go of this moment soon, have to deal with a past that might be scarier than she'd ever dreamed, but not now. . . . Not now.
She took in a deep breath, holding on for a little longer.
"Kathleen Templeton?"
The name was spoken in a hushed voice — McGregor's voice.
Ky opened her eyes to find him staring at her. He wasn't smiling anymore.
Suddenly, neither was she.

I Admit It- I'm a Horror Writer : The Unholy by Paul DeBlassie III

What kind of writer am I?
Don’t tell anyone, but in the quiet moments of my day and in secret times of contemplation I admit to myself that I am a horror writer.
A balls out write horror. I clean it up and say I write psychological thrillers and dark fantasy; but, rock bottom its horror. It’s my own kind of horror that is quite different in many ways from what is out there in the marketplace. I see huge volumes with convoluted tales. The old horror master, my true inspiration and guiding lights, wrote without ungainly complexities.
There was good and there was evil and they were set at life threatening odds with one another so that the reader was scared to death because they had secretly wondered if something like this could ever be or ever happen and the old masters brought that dark wondering out of the cupboard and set it loose on the earth.
That’s what I do, can’t clean up except when I feel compelled to in professional and academic societies of clinical psychology and psychoanalysis. But, more and more I’m making my way out of the closet and saying plain and simple that I’m a horror writer. Yikes…there…I said it…wasn’t bad…tooo baaad…Yikes! You can see by my conflict how the only way for me to write is to unplug from this conflict and get down to the nitty gritty and be the horror man.
This is what jazzes me and makes me write…pure, raw, human fear and horror..the stuff of this writer’s life.

Character Interview with Caeles Novo from the Leadership and Redemption Series by Michael Cantwell

So what have you been doing lately, Caeles?
I still wander around stealing souls. But I no longer sit on the High Council. My wife Kalani is pregnant with our second child, so I am trying to stay close to home.
Do you enjoy removing souls?
No. I hate it. I wish the day would come when everyone could see the beauty in this world and I was forced to retire. Nothing would please me more.
Why did you fight so hard to return souls?
Everyone deserves a second chance, don’t they? I have only met a handful of people who I can say are pure evil. Everyone wants to justify why they get off course. They all have a reason. I never considered myself the world’s judge and jury. I’ll leave that to a higher authority.
Do you think being a father for a second time will change you?
I don’t know about me, but it has changed my wife. I think with our first child, Nicon, Kalani wasn’t ready to be a mother. She was still determined to be the world’s best soul stealer. I think her priorities have changed. She is embracing motherhood more this time. Me, I just do the chores around the house and hope I get a hot meal now and again.
Do you have a favorite song?
I love many styles of music. Of course I love the music from my good friend Dylan James and the Overture. I have signed copies of all their music at home. I like Billy Joel’s song, Summer Highland Falls, Dan Fogelberg’s, Part of the Plan and Too Much from the Dave Matthews Band.
Tell the truth, was there every anything between you and Rose?
I admit that I visit with Rose now and again. The good news is that she has resumed her life as Isabella and is working full time at the library. Doc Winfield was forced to find a new nurse. Isabella is working on her first novel about people who remove souls from others who no longer see the good in the world. Rose will always have a special place in my heart, but I have never been untrue to my wife. I know Kalani had her suspicions about me and Rose, but we were never more than good friends.
Lastly, how does one keep their soul?
There is an old saying about doing the right thing while no one is watching. Someone is always watching. Do the right thing and do it with a smile.

Giveaway and Character Interview with Olivia from Corporate Ties by EL Loraine

Thanks so much for hosting today!
Several readers wanted to know more about Olivia Grayson, so she’s here today to try and answer as many as possible.
Nikki wants to know: What’s your biggest fear and do you have anyone close enough to you to share it with?
Olivia: Samantha is my best friend, she knows where all the bodies are buried, lol My biggest fear is not being good enough. Disappointing people. I don’t like to do that.
Nora wants to know what happened in a past relationship to make you scared of commitment?
Olivia: I loved him, and he left me. Just one day, was gone. Said he loved someone else.
She also wants to know if you’ll ever move back to LA and do you have meetings with the ‘elders’ and how do you know someone needs to be saved?
Olivia: Good questions. No I don’t think I’ll ever move back to LA, I love it here in New York too much. Yes, the elders meet and discuss things. They talk to school councilors. They find run a ways, run ads, do blogs. Stuff like that. When you have uncontrollable sexual urges at any age, it needs to be controlled, and you need help, not to be exploited or get into bad situations your reputation can’t recover from.
Do you have family besides your Aunt Loralie?
Olivia: Loralie has an adopted daughter, but we’re not close. So I’m on my own, and I’m fine with my life and my choices.
Are you going to open your own business or go into business with Brian?
Olivia: Another great question. I guess I haven’t decided, but Brian and I will work on things together more often. We’ve talked about starting security business’ in other cities, so only time will tell.
What’s on you music list right now?
Olivia: Passenger’s ‘Let her go’, A Great Big World with Christina Aguilera, ‘Say Something’, but I really like so many kinds of music.
How about TV shows? What are you really into?
Olivia: Oh I’m a HUGE The Walking Dead fan! And being from New York I love watching Sex in the City marathons!
Thanks so much for being here Olivia. We look forward to hearing much more about you!
