Gay Sex Roles: Tops and Bottoms

This is one of those posts I'm keeping more clinical because I think it's important to the discussion of m/m romance and almost all gay fiction. Even if this doesn't come up in any particular book, it is dormant between the lines no matter how hard someone tries to dispute it (or ignore it). We often read a great deal about gender politics with regard to gay relationships that discuss the fundamentals, with respect to heteronormative couples, and most...

Two and a Half Men Fake Gay; Amazon E-book Service; Visible Penis Lines; Simon Cowell Responds to Gay Rumor

Two and a Half Men Fake Gay

For the 12th season of the long running sitcom, Two and a Half Men, they've come up with an unusual plot that involves faking gay, faking gay marriage, and faking an adoption. I'm really not joking about this, and I'm not even sure if it's considered offensive at this point. The network is claiming this storyline will help show the progress gay people have made in these areas. Some, however, have mixed feelings.

Speaking to reporters at the Television Criti...

HIV Drops; What's VPL? Johnny Hazzard in Indie Film; Theresa Santai-Gaffney Gay Hate

HIV Drops

In the past decade, according to this source, the number of people diagnosed with HIV has dropped by one third in the US.

The survey was published today, 19 July, by the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The investigation is part of the publication's HIV research report, made public ahead of the start of the International AIDS Conference (held in Melbourne, Australia).

You can read more here. But don't get too excited yet. It also says this:

The analysis did show a troubling...

Mario Gotze's Wood; Gay Pride History; Andrew Rannells' Hedwig; Simon Cowell Gay?

Mario Gotze's Wood

This might not be the most enlightening story on the Internet today, but it's Saturday, it's summer, and I don't teach classes on the social and political uses of technology; I try to keep things at least a little interesting. And when I spotted this story about soccer star, Mario Gotze, showing photos of his "boner" online I thought it would be different to share. I think this is safe for work, too. But don't quote me.

Before he became famous for scoring the game winni...

Anderson Cooper: Andy Cohen Tops; Aussie Micro Penis; Biggest Visible Penis Line (VPL)

Anderson Cooper: Andy Cohen Tops

In a recent interview Anderson Cooper revealed, in a way, that Andy Cohen is a top, not a bottom.

Anderson: I know a lot of secrets about Andy, but I guess the one that would surprise people the most is that he’s a top.

Andy: Why, you think people think I’m a bottom?

Kelly: I don’t.

Anderson: Believe me, there’s nothing wrong with that, but I’m just saying, I think that would surprise people — I don’t know this from personal experience, but from conversations you...

Courage: Michael Sam

Michael Sam received the Arthur Ashe award recently, and when he made his speech emotions grew so intense people actually cried. I think his comments reflect more than just one emotion, and I also think so many can identify with his struggles in life. The magnitude of it all hits hard at times.

“To anyone out there, especially young people feeling like they don’t fit in, or that they'd never be accepted, remember this: Great things can happen when you have the courage...

Billy Bean Baseball

One of the first...Glenn Burke was the first...major league baseball players to come out was Billy Bean. He came out after he retired in 1999 because of the stress associated with being in a major league sport as a closeted gay. It was recently announced that Bean will act as the league's first Ambassador for Inclusion. I've been following him for years and I've always been a respectful fan. He was a role model for gay men long before gay role model...

Archie Dies For Gay Character; James Franco's Gay Lover; Miguel Pinzon & Tori Spelling; Small Town Romance Writer by Ryan Field

Archie Dies For Gay Character

Earlier this week when I posted about the Archie character from Life of Archie dying at the end of this particular series by taking a bullet meant for an openly gay character, Kevin Keller, I didn't expect to receive many reactions. But I've had e-mails and comments left on social media that surprised me so much I thought I'd search around for more online reactions to see how others feel about all this...or at least how it's being handled. I'm taking an...

Good Gay Oral; BAD, Bad Oral Sex; Methodist Minister Burns Himself to Death; Small Town Romance Writer by Ryan Field

Good Gay Oral

There's an interesting and timeless article I found at a university web site that discusses gay oral sex...and oral sex in general. It's not something that I would think is unsafe for work. But you'll have to judge this yourselves. It's more of an itemized list of tips that suggest how to give good oral sex and I don't see anything that can be disputed. It's not too technical or too graphic either.

One of the most important tips:

5. Don’t use your teeth. Ever. No one likes it...

Jonathan Groff on Looking; Archie Dies for Gay Friend; Chris Christie Opposes Gay Marriage; Too Fat to Bottom?

Jonathan Groff on Looking

Jonathan Groff, whom I've posted about here before, is a star in the gay drama, Looking, and he says that his role in the show is the closest to being what he's like in real life. This doesn't surprise me because it's the closest I've ever seen a TV show come to creating what real life for gay men is like. At least for a large segment of gay men that is. I've read the reviews by the critics and I've found them to be highly one-sided, without taking...
