Give "Looking" a Break
In the course of a week while I'm searching for lgbt news items to comment on, I come across some of the most blatant passive aggressive homophobic pieces there are. I see film stars like James Franco exploiting gay men for his own gain, I see comments from idiots like Rose McGowan slamming gay men and pride events, and I even see gay D-list actors who have played gay working gay men for all they are worth on social media to gain more exposure.
But what really surprises m...

Worst 50 Shades Article Ever
I'm not sure where to begin with this, because it's so off base I'm actually not even sure it's worthy of commentary. And, it is an advertorial...paid for by Fifty Shades of Grey the movie.
But since so many people don't seem to know anything about Fifty Shades of Grey I figured I'd add a few small details. I was part of a book of essays that examined the book, FSoG, you can check out here if you are so inclined. I've been paid already for being part of the book and...

Obama and Gay Marriage
I think if I went back to a few posts I wrote previously I would find at least one thing I said that agrees with this next post. And when I wrote it I most likely did that with a pragmatic tone. I just don't have the time to do that right now, so I'll comment at the end.
Evidently, the President's chief campaign strategist, David Axelrod, wrote a memoir...I know: typical...and in order to promote the book he seems to have a few issues to disclose. In this case it's gay ma...

Chris Rice's The Dinner Party Show
What drew me to this webcast by Christopher Rice was the dinner party theme. I'm not sure what it's like in other areas where there's a heavy concentration of LGBT people, but here in New Hope dinner parties are huge. Everybody has them, even single people. And we take them seriously, too. I know one gay couple who literally takes notes in the kitchen during a dinner party to see what guests are saying, and he keeps a long running dinner party journal (that I...

Ben Affleck Full Frontal Male Nudity
I know it's not important in the grand scheme, but sometimes things don't have to be rocket science to make people curious about them. In this case I'm talking about the full frontal male nude scene with Ben Affleck in Gone Girl.
I saw the film about a month ago, loved every minute of it, and the full frontal nudity is the least of the film. I liked the movie so much I didn't even care about Affleck's penis once I was ten minutes into the story line. But fra...

Villanova Swimmer Comes Out
This is interesting because it's about the emotional aspect of coming out if you're a gay athlete, and also about a few social things as they are related to what everyone calls "gay culture."
Villanova is an excellent university on Philadelphia's Main Line. I know it well because I live in New Hope, Bucks County and I have a few friends who graduated from there. A swimmer at Villanova, Ryan Murtha, recently came out in public to all his teammates. He did this a...

HIV Prevention Toolbox
This is an article from an HIV web site called HIVequal. This particular post focuses on 7 different strategies used to prevent someone from getting HIV. The first is fairly simple: condoms. The rest I'm not too sure about. They aren't inaccurate. I'm just not sure how realistic they are. I'm not knocking them either because I think any kind of awareness is something worthwhile.

SNL Rejections & Lit Agents
When I ran across this article about how Lorne Michaels regrets some of the talent he originally rejected for SNL, I couldn't help thinking about publishing, writers, books, and literary agents. And Michaels did, indeed, reject a few people who went on to become successful in spite of the rejection. It's really a very honest, humble article about how gatekeepers sometimes miss talent.

Jack Falahee's Sexuality
In ABC's How to Get Away With Murder, Jack Falahee plays a gay character who from what I gather actually brought his partner to tears during a rimming scene. I've never heard of Falahee, and I probably won't see much of him because I rarely watch that kind of network TV anymore. But he's relatively unknown and everyone now wants to know whether he's gay or straight.
And he's being coy, secretive, and demure about it:

Ripped His Heart Out and Ate It
In order to prove that he wasn't gay, a man ripped out another man's heart...and he ate it, taking gay shame to a completely new level.
This is about as disturbing as it gets:
When police arrested Chimboza on 10 June, they found him chewing raw flesh and that Manoma's neck had been 'half-eaten'.
He added his chest had a gaping hole in the left side. Chimboza then claimed he did it 'show him that I am not a moffie [gay]'.
