January Thaw Fallout!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Mercy! I just can’t win! LOL

I wished for the January Thaw and we got it…now we have a flood at the side of my parent’s house with the concrete sucking up the water like a sponge…the garage floor is really moist and due to the rapid melt of the ice we also got some water into the basement through a basement window! I’ve managed to get about 4 buckets of water from the above pic area, but there is still tons of ice.

We realized this is the lowest point between the house next door and ours…time to figure out how to make this area not so low…unfortunately no writing the last three days as I chip ice away here and there and clean up water. *le sigh* Tomorrow one more day of the thaw then everything freezes again…not good for the concrete walls I’m thinking. Making a list though of things that must be done come Spring.

On the book news – A Merry Menage Christmas continues to stay on the Kindle Holiday Romance Best Seller List. Wooot! And “Attracted to Him” my first m/m contemporary erotic romance releases  from Ellora’s Cave this Friday. Squeeeee!

Hope you all are faring better during this Thaw.

Hugs!

The Big Melt begins…

It seems the polar vortex has retreated!! *high five*

Yesterday was the last really chilly day and to celebrate the upcoming demise of the vortex I ventured outdoors and went for a wonderful walk around a frozen bay. Here are some pics I took:

Today is a whole different ball game. It’s hovering at the freezing mark and there are flood warnings due to incoming rain and ice on the ground. Oooooh it should be an interesting January Thaw. But just think soon we will be having Groundhog Day and then Spring will be just around the corner!!! Woooohooooo!

A strange thing happened the other day too while we sat in the living room watching tv. It was toward late afternoon and we suddenly heard this really loud “snap” right in the wall behind us. It sounded as if something that had been under serious tension had just cut loose. Another way of describing it was like two huge pieces of flat board being slapped together real hard. It was really weird!! Someone told me that it is because the extreme cold is loosening it’s grip on the house and the house is “settling”, and because it is starting to warm the house is actually expanding instead of the earlier contracting when it was getting cold.  As long as the house doesn’t settle on me, I’m good. LOLOL

On the writing front – “Inner Girl Rising” is at 21,000 words and still going! Woot!

Good old fashioned winter!

Good morning!

It’s roughly around 5 in the morning and I’m up due to the house making cracking and popping sounds. It’s made these sounds for fifty years when it gets really cold out, so you think I’d get used to them by now. But nope! I always wake up and huddle beneath the blankets, my eyes peering into the darkness waiting for…the big collapse.

It’s a cold one out there. The polar vortex they are calling it. Good old fashioned winter is what I’m calling it. LOL. Long john season! But that’s okay, in a few days the January Thaw will be here and will chase this polar vortex right back up north where it belongs. *crossing my fingers* Enough of the cold already!!

Stay safe through this extreme weather, my friends. Stay safe and warm!

Here’s sending you warm hugs and cyber hot chocolate.

Is my alcohol allergy in Remission?

For as long as I can remember I haven’t been able to tolerate any alcoholic beverages…yeah, it’s been a total bummer.

I first became aware of this problem when I was 19 and I tried my first rum and cokes (3 of them)…and felt dizzy and generally lousy. Even my dad’s homemade dandelion wine and plum wines (even a tablespoon) made my legs rubbery and made me feel so weak I could barely stand. Over the years I tried little gulps of wine, beer, tequila, etc…a couple of times I got really sick…And  so I went thru most of my adult life without any booze…

Fast forward until about a year ago, last Christmas I tried a teensy weensy glass of red wine at my Mom’s insistance (she’s Italian and enjoys company when she drinks her Christmas wine). This time, to my surprise, nothing happened. No dizzies, no rubbery legs…nothing. I thought ohhhh this is nice but I didn’t push it. I didn’t want to chance any bad reactions and so I stayed away…

Fast forward again until this Christmas. I bought wine to give as Christmas presents and I gave Mom a couple of bottles. One red and one white.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

She insisted I try some white wine…so I had a teensy weensy glass (and I mean teensy – see pic above)…the wine tasted gooooood and again I had no reaction. So I had another little glass…LOL and I have been having a little glass every day since then…(see above pic as evidence) LOL I am kind of excited as I ponder exploring a new world of beverages.

So I wonder… does this mean my sensitivity/allergy/or whatever it was has gone into remission? I sure do hope so because I look forward to trying out other kinds of wines – hopefully without turning myself into an alcoholic…red wine tastes excellent with cooked chicken and white wine tastes great with salami and cheese.

I’m pondering on what kind of wine I should try next. Any suggestions you may have are very welcome. *grin*

Okay, so I must dash outside as the snow is accumulating and I must see if I can keep up!

Have a good one!

“A Merry Menage Christmas” has cracked the top 100 at Amazon again. LOL

Squeeeeing! I am not sure if this happens to other authors or not, as this is the first time I’ve had a book hit the top 100 at Amazon Kindle (Holiday section). LOL. So it’s kind of fun to watch it back on the list again. Thanks to everyone for your warm support! I really appreciate it! You guys are awesome!! It was up to #92 this time around the last time I checked.

So, today I have the snowblower all ready to go as we are in for another snowstorm tomorrow – gonna forgo the shovel this time around as it appears the storm is going to dump up to 20 cm. Should be fun…not. LOL

I have made an appt for a massage on Tues and hopefully she will be able to get out all the kinks I have accumulated the last few times of shoveling.  I shovel instead of snowblowing for exercise…but my back does not praise me. Ahhhh well.

Today is a gorgeous and relatively warm day but we will be dipping down come Monday when the cold air grabs hold of us again. Now I look forward to the January Thaw and cross my fingers it will be a long one. Wooohooo! A shout out to those folks in NewFoundland and other parts of the Maritimes who are without electricity today. I’m hoping things will resolve quickly for you guys through this rocky time. Sending you hugs and thinking about you.

Okay, so I must march off and get some writing done! Working on both “Inner Girl Rising” (Target EC if I can get the deadline) and Sophie’s Menage (for Spunky Girl Key Club) today.

Hope you have a great day!!

Let it snow! Let it snow!

MUG

Ohhhh my goodness! It’s snowing again and again and again. LOL. With a windchill of -34C tonight (-29F?) I am seriously thinking maybe it is about time to head to Florida! Woot!

Florida

I hear in NewFoundland and Quebec (maybe other places too) there are rolling blackouts due to the high demand on electricity as people try to stay warm. No worries, I am keeping notes for a possible Ice Age erotic romance series…with this cold weather lately, for all I know we could be heading into an ice age and any fiction series may turn non-fiction. *gasp*

Alas, I have a toasty bean bag nestled against my back preparing for the snow shoveling to come tonight. Another storm tomorrow night (possible) and then another Sunday night (a big one)…what a wintry start to the New Year!

Hope your New Years is off to a great start!!

jan, off to grab a mug of hot chocolate
