Hey! Can I help you learn how to write a book? YES!

Hi all,

As you might already know, I’m a bestselling, traditionally published (Penguin, Random House, St. Martins) author of both fiction and non-fiction. One of my very favorite things about being a writer is helping aspiring authors learn how to write a book and get published. Seriously, it’s the coolest.

I’m super excited because I’ve just launched a new YouTube writing advice channel to help aspiring authors get published. Yay!!!

My other favorite things about being a writer? Seeing my new book in a bookstore for the first time (never gets old); meeting readers (also never gets old — I LOVE my readers); and writing books all day at the beach or in my pajamas.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and for watching! I hope you’ll stick around & check out my videos. Have a question? Feel free to write comments or drop me an email. I’m always here for you! That’s right, just like your best friend. (If your best friend happens to be a goofy-ish, bestselling author who will offer you practical writing tips but also nag the crap out of you until you finish your book…) No? Well then, it’s good we finally met.

xx,Lisa

Advice To My Adolescent Self by Lisa Daily

My adolescent self was never wanting for advice.

I have always had an exact replica of myself with 25 years more experience whispering in my ear at every juncture. Her name is Jan, and she is my mother.

She knew what I was up to before I’d fully formed a plan for mischief. She encouraged me to be kind when I playfully tortured teenage boys for sport. And she believed that I could do anything I set my mind to.

She still does.

When I think about the mistakes I made, the things I wished I’d tried harder at, or practiced more, I realize I wouldn’t change a thing.

Every misstep, every flat-out moronic endeavor, every victory, every chance I’ve ever taken has brought me to here.

If I changed one thing, I might change my path, my life might go in a different direction.

The death of my brother, every broken heart, every brave moment, every kiss, every step, every friend, has made me who I am, has given me the most extraordinary life anyone could hope for.

If I could give any advice to my adolescent self, it would be to enjoy the ride.

And give mom a hug.

#AuthorLife is pretty cool. This week I’m co-hosting the nationally-syndicated DAYTIME TV show with Cyndi Edwards

Once again I had a blast co-hosting the Daytime Show with the fabulous Cyndi Edwards. Can you say dream come true? Thanks so much to Cyndi, Deanna, Chip, Rob, and the rest of the crew for making the day so much fun. We have some amazing, inspiring guests on the show today — including the oldest guy EVER to take up professional wrestling (I dare you not to cry when you find out what inspired him), and Marc & Angel Chernoff  – who stopped by to talk about their awesome new book, GETTING BACK TO HAPPY. (Don’t we all need that reset once in a while.)

Here are Marc & Angel talking about how they went from rock bottom to finding happiness and prosperity by helping others.

Enjoy!

Are Chloe Dykstra’s Breakup Texts to Chris Hardwick Proof She’s Lying?

Newsweek and TMZ just revealed the content of what they say are post-breakup texts from Chloe Dykstra to Chris Hardwick, which inevitably lead to a bunch of people saying that these (if they’re real, and they may be) are proof that he was not actually abusive to Dykstra.

This is wrong.

The texts are proof of nothing. Why?

First, whether the Chloe texts are real or manufactured, it’s not uncommon for abused partners to try to reconcile with their abusers. Eventually they’re convinced that they’re such garbage no one else would want them. This is what happens when someone makes you feel useless and stupid and ugly and damaged for months or years on end. It’s also incredibly common.

Second, you have to remember that according to Dykstra and several other industry sources, Hardwick was majorly sabotaging with Dyksrta’s career and reputation — like many survivors, she did whatever she had to do to get out from under him and make it all stop. And sometimes that means making nice with the guy who raped you. Because at some point, you just want to salvage whatever you have left. And for Dykstra, that was her career.

Chloe Dykstra’s account of abuse rang true with other abuse victims for a reason. She has nothing to gain, and everything to lose by coming forward. But like many women and men who have suffered abuse for a long time and managed got make it through to the other side, at some point you just feel compelled to speak your truth and let the chips fall where they may.

Chloe Dykstra deserves our support.

Arianna Grande and Pete Davidson Engaged : Love at first sight? Or too much too soon?

Lisa Daily Dating Expert Daytime ShowThis week on the Daytime Show, I’m talking about Arianna Grande and Pete Davidson’s lightning-fast engagement and whether this is romantic as it can be or basically the worst idea ever.

If you’ve been on vacation in a no-Internet zone or hiding under a rock this week, here’s the skinny: Celeb watchers were caught off guard when Arianna Grande announced her engagement to Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson — and revealed the almost $100,000, 3-carat custom engagement ring that reportedly took two weeks to make. The couple began dating in May, about five minutes after Arianna and longtime love Mac Miller broke up, and and Arianna was spotted wearing the ring in early June. Which pretty much means that Pete Davidson basically had the sparkly marvel commissioned between drinks and dinner on their like, second date. Maybe he’s psychic and he already knew they were destined to be together.  Or maybe he’s like, the best closer EVER.

My Daytime segment (with this week’s guest host and WWE star TITAN) is below, and we’ll be talking about whether there is such a thing as finding love too quickly. (Spoiler: YES!), the dangers of a speedy engagement, and some warning signs Arianna should be looking out for (namely the fact that a lot of unhealthy and abusive relationships start with somebody who just sweeps you off your feet. (And then isolates you from your friends and family, starts calling you names and controlling what you do/wear/etc, killing your self esteem, and sabotaging your work.  See: Chloe Dykstra )

I wish them all the best (and I’m definitely pulling for a real-life happily ever after story for them) but I’m worried for Arianna and Pete. My advice?  A loooooong engagement.

xo,

I’m talking about my new beach read Single-Minded on Suncoast View

Oh my gawd, I had a blast on Suncoast View talking about my brand new summer romance Single-Minded!

In case you missed it, here’s the skinny on the book:

Alex has planned and executed her life with laser focus since she first met her future husband at the play-doh table on the first day of kindergarten. They have a terrific life, a gorgeous house on the bay, and fantastic careers they love. There’s only one problem: Alex’s husband has a secret. A big one.

Now, Alex’s perfectly planned life has completely fallen apart, her biological clock is starting to feel like the timer on a nuclear device, and she finds herself drooling over her completely-dreamy-but-definitely-off-limits client, a star chef opening a hot new restaurant.

Armed with dating guidance from her oddball collection of advisers―including her gay ex-husband, a foul-mouthed political consultant, a perkily masochistic yogi, and a pot-smoking octogenarian―Alex navigates the booby-trapped world of modern dating, in her search for a second chance at love.

Interested?  You can buy Single-Minded here.

I hope you laugh so hard you snort.

Swipe Right for Marriage? Tinder sheds its hookup rep

Lisa-Daily-Daytime-Show-Graphic

TINDER MAY BE SHEDDING ITS REPUTATION AS A HOOKUP APP. “Swipe right” dating apps often get a bad rap, but new data suggests that users of hookup apps may be more commitment-minded than other daters. This week on DAYTIME, I’m talking about a new study that found that Tinder daters might be more commitment-minded than you thought — and why couples who meet online transition to marriage more quickly.

In other news, I’ve got a brand new laugh-out-loud novel coming out this summer (yep, beach read!) called SINGLE-MINDED, about a woman who marries her childhood sweetheart and then finds herself dating for the first time in her life at 31 when her marriage unexpectedly ends in divorce.Single-Minded-funny-beach-read-by-Lisa-Daily

Lisa Daily Dating Expert Daytime Show

More than two million women and men will get divorced in 2017, and if you’re one of them, you might be starting to panic about now. This week on the Daytime show, I talked about 5 strategies to keep your divorce from destroying you — from finances to how to tell your kids to what you MUST know to save your sanity. (Even when it seems that everyone else around you has clearly lost theirs!) Plus, we’ll talk about that awful feeling that you’ll die alone with only your cat for company — and that no one will ever want to date you or have sex with you again. (Trust me, they will.)

If you just need a laugh to forget your divorce troubles, I’ve got laugh-out-loud romantic comedy coming out this summer (yep, beach read!) called SINGLE-MINDED, about a woman who marries her childhood sweetheart and then finds herself dating for the first time in her life at 31 when her marriage unexpectedly ends in divorce.

Even Brad Pitt Gets His Heart Broken: How to Recover From Your Divorce

Brad-Pitt-GQ-Style-04

EVEN BRAD PITT GETS HIS HEART BROKEN. Brad Pitt opened up about his family being “ripped apart” and his divorce from Angelina Jolie in GQ last week. This week on the DAYTIME show I talked about what he (and you!) can do to heal heartbreak and get through your divorce in one piece — including why it’s bad for you to blame your partner, why it takes the “dumpee” and the “dumper” more or less time to move on after the breakup or divorce, when we should expect to see Brad Pitt back out on the dating market (and why he should wait), the most important thing you need to do during your divorce, and what to do when you’re missing your kids like crazy during the other parent’s visitation time.

Check it out, here:
