My 5 Favorite Black Romances This Year 💙

Happy Black History Month, everybody! Since February is the month of Black History and 🥰 LOVE💙, I thought I'd share some of my very favorite black romance authors and their awesome books. You don't want to miss these!
🥂🥂🥂

The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa — you have probably heard me rave about this one multiple times, it was one of my absolute favorite books last year. No lie, Mia Sosa made snort laugh more than once while I was reading it. Also CRAZY STEAMY.
💙
Wiped Out: Murder is a Beach by Tamara Woods — I loved this cozy mystery romance, not only for the main character Fraya, who I'd like to hang out with, but also because we have the exact same taste in beach houses. The descriptions of Hawaiian beach life kept me alive during the last year when I couldn't get to the real thing.
💙
Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert — I was apparently the LAST person on Goodreads to read this book, and I am kicking myself for it. Review coming tomorrow, but I can assure you, I will be burning through the rest of the series as fast as my little fingers can turn those pages. READ THIS, you can thank me later.
💙
The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon — Samiah (another of my book BFFs) has sworn off men after being publicly humiliated on social media, until swoon-worthy coworker Daniel comes along. I loved this book for its depth, its portrayal of female friendships, its SIZZLING chemistry, and just all-out wit.
💙
The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory — As many of you know, I am a super fan of the fake girlfriend/boyfriend/fiance trope, so this one was an instant winner for me. Great chemistry, fun scenario, a definite must-read. Also, if you love series romances THERE ARE MORE COMING!!! Review to come.
💙

Rom-com Book Review: GET A LIFE, CHLOE BROWN by Talia Hibbert

5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The other day I was saying that I was apparently the LAST person on Goodreads to read GET A LIFE, CHLOE BROWN by Talia Hibbert, despite the fact that approximately 1000 of my reader friends recommended it. All I can tell you is I WISH I HAD READ IT EARLIER because it was so awesome.
When things go badly in her life, Chloe makes a list, and a plan to get her life back on track. This was what hooked me from page one, because as you guys know, my superpower and my kryptonite both are my un-shaking belief that there is no problem, challenge, or crappy life situation that can’t be handled with a well thought out to-do list and enough colored markers. (#boozyplannerorama)
Chloe’s plan, as many good ones do, includes having meaningless, spectacular sex; getting drunk; and doing something “bad” with the help of a hot, tattooed, handyman-slash-artist named Red. This seems like a good plan to me.

This story was hilarious, it was steamy, and it had some really delightful jump-off-the-page-and-hang-out-in-your-living-room characters. Highly recommended.

As I mentioned yesterday, I will be burning through the rest of the series as fast as my little fingers can turn those pages. READ THIS BOOK, it’s fantastic.

SOME OF MY BOOKS:

[image error]SINGLE-MINDED (romantic comedy)

Perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series, Christina Lauren, and Emily Henry’s Beach Read.
Alex has planned and executed her life with laser focus since she first met her future husband at the play-doh table on the first day of kindergarten. They have a terrific life, a gorgeous house on the bay, and fantastic careers they love. There’s only one problem: Alex’s husband has a secret. A big one.
Now, Alex’s perfectly planned life has completely fallen apart, her biological clock is starting to feel like the timer on a nuclear device, and she finds herself drooling over her completely-dreamy-but-definitely-off-limits client, a star chef opening a hot new restaurant.
Armed with dating guidance from her oddball collection of advisers–including her gay ex-husband, a foul-mouthed political consultant, a perkily masochistic yogi, and a pot-smoking octogenarian–Alex navigates the booby-trapped world of modern dating, in her search for a second chance at love in Single-Minded by Lisa Daily.Single-Minded is a heartfelt take on the romance genre. The first person narration makes you feel as though you’re right there with Alex as she navigates dating for the first time in well, forever.  It’s total booklover catnip — witty, charming, and swoony. Seriously swoony.

FIFTEEN MINUTES OF SHAME ( romantic comedy)

From bestselling author Lisa Daily, a hilarious debut novel that will delight fans of Janet Evanovich and Sophie Kinsella

America’s favorite TV dating expert just found out her husband is cheating on her.

Darby Vaughn, a small-town girl turned dating guru, has finally landed the
life she’s always dreamed of: A handsome, charming husband she’s crazy
about, a fabulous home in an exclusive neighborhood, a bestselling
dating book, and tax-deductible pedicures. Thousands of women have
attended Darby’s famous Dreamgirl Academy and followed her man-snagging
advice to the letter, in hopes that their lives will turn out just like
hers. But when she finds out her husband is cheating, her
publicity-perfect world spins out of control. Not only is the most
humiliating moment in her life splashed across every supermarket tabloid
and celebrity gossip show, but her reputation as America’s favorite
love expert is shot. Her book sales have tanked, her publisher has
canceled the rest of her tour, and her love life has become fodder for
late-night TV. To make matters worse, Darby’s husband’s ex-wife Gigi
keeps feeding the media frenzy in hopes of furthering her own reality TV
career. If Darby takes her philandering husband back, she will be
breaking her own most cardinal law of relationships (Never stay with a
cheater!), and her career will be over. If she sticks to her own rules,
she’ll lose the only man she has ever truly loved. As her marriage and
career fall apart, Darby learns that even dating experts get their
hearts broken, and that when it comes to matters of the heart, none of
us are in complete control.

I loved Kristin Harmel’s new book, The Book of Lost Names

My dear friend Kristin Harmel has a new book out which is getting all the raves, and it was an instant New York Times bestseller. It’s called THE BOOK OF LOST NAMES, and it’s absolutely brilliant. It’s an incredible historical novel based on a real-life WWII story about a young woman who helps hundreds of jewish children escape the Nazis. Seriously, it’s a stunningly good book, I highly recommend it.

She’s an extraordinary writer, who started writing professionally in high school (I’m not kidding) and began working for People magazine when she was in college. She published her first book in her VERY early 20s. When I met her about 13 years ago, she was living the kind of author life everybody dreams of: hanging out with movie stars, living in Paris and Italy periodically while researching her next books. She was adorable and charming (still is) — not to mention, so nice you can’t help but wish good things for her.

One of my favorite Kristin memories happened about 10 or so years ago. I’d just met a friend of a friend, Abby Fabiasci, who was a talented writer and aspiring author. On a whim, I asked Abby to drive to Orlando with me for one of Kristin’s book launch parties. We had a phenomenal, deep conversation (the first of many) on the long drive to and from the event and if I had to pinpoint the exact time when Abby became one of my dearest friends, that would be it.

When we arrived at Kristin’s very fabulous book party (in an adorable shoe boutique), she took the time to get to know Abby and give her some advice.

My #writerlift today is Kristin Harmel, who probably doesn’t need any lifting, although she truly deserves it — not only for her extraordinary talent, but for her gift and practice of lifting up everyone around her.
