Next up was the making of High Noon and its connection to the Hollywood blacklist, a time of vicious rhetoric and false ...more

High Noon, the Hollywood Blacklist and Trump

My new book, HIGH NOON: THE HOLLYWOOD BLACKLIST AND THE MAKING OF AN AMERICAN CLASSIC, came out on Feb. 21. The reviews so far have been good, but what's really surprised me are the many questions via my live book talks and radio interviews about the parallels between the blacklist era and our current turbulent political times. “Colonnese praised the film for depicting "the terrible effects of hate and prejudice, and seems to say that life can only go on if one triumphs over these emotions.”
Glenn Frankel, The Searchers: The Making of an American Legend

“raping, torturing, and scalping Martha Sherman, a pregnant”
Glenn Frankel, The Searchers

“For her part, Kelly expressed warm feelings about Cooper as well. “He’s the one who taught me to relax during a scene and let the camera do some of the work,” she would recall. “On the stage you have to emote not only for the front rows, but for the balcony too, and I’m afraid I overdid it. He taught me the camera is always in the front row, and how to take it easy.”
Glenn Frankel, High Noon: The Hollywood Blacklist and the Making of an American Classic
