Dr Motsoaledi and the new national health insurance plan
Dr Aaron Motsoaledi presents green paper on the national health insurance (NHI) scheme, which is mandatory health coverage that aims to give all citizens of a nation access to healthcare, regardless of their income level. It would be funded in part by extra contributions by employers and people who earned above a certain threshold. It is felt that national health insurance (NHI) scheme will fail if the country’s public hospitals continue to function as badly as they currently do.

Wlll Shrien Dewani be safer in South Africa than in his native UK?
With the background of recent riots, violence and looting on the streets of London, District Judge Howard Riddle ruled that Shrien Dewani can be sent to South Africa to face charges of murder but referred the case to the British Home Secretary, Theresa May for a final decision. South African authorities are fighting for Dewani to go on trial with two local men for the murder of his Swedish-born wife Anni in Cape Town while on honeymoon last November which they believe the 31-year-old masterminded. One of the arguments not to allow extradition, was the danger and violence in South African prisons.

South Africa bails out King Mswati III with R2.4 billion loan
South African Ministery of Finance has confirmed that they approved a five-year loan of R2.4-billion to crisis-hit Swaziland, on condition that the country implements certain political and governing reforms. Those opposed to the loan say the money will be used by Mswati and his 12 wives to fund their lavish lifestyles and will deter him from instituting much needed political reforms and the unbanning of political parties.

Normally, as the richest and biggest economy in the world, the United States of America bails out the rest of the world. Now it finds its long term debt downgraded by Standard and Poors. The US needs to look after its own re-payment of its loans before looking after others. According to China, the US should cure its addiction to debts and live within its means.
