Week #8: February 17-23
Seven weeks down, forty-five to go, and the eighth week is coming in hot!
It’s really hard to keep up with current events, every headline is more outrageous and outlandish than the last, and while it may be for the best that you protect your peace, filter your feeds, and otherwise stay removed enough to keep your cool, there’s also a bleakness to those behaviors. A willful ignorance that’s as treacherous as it is tempting. Fear is fuel for the fires that burn, but don’t forget that like beauty, it’s in the eye of the beholder. Stay sovereign, yet soft.
In a 9 collective year, every single daily, weekly, and monthly number is amplified. Due to the fact that 9 can essentially be canceled out in any reduction calculation it appears in (truly, try some out, i.e. 1+9 = 10, 1+0 = 1), every core number this year becomes more of itself. Magnified, and polarized. Embodying both sides of the coin at the same time.
Meaning for this week…

💍: Marriage By the Numbers: Planning Your Wedding Using Numerology
Eight is the number of effort and strife. It’s as impactful as it is slippery, dancing with the sometimes-seedy underbelly of power and influence, karma and soul growth, and what’s possible when the line between desire and proficiency blurs.
Ripe, plump, juicy, and ready for the taking, eight is the number of unfettered access to that which has the ability to both elevate and corrupt. It’s a ruthless titan of industry, the greed and guts needed to really rile things up enough to usurp opportunity and opulence. Eight is indicative of the underworld journey that beckons us all, the siren’s call to wade into deep waters and stay submerged until you can resurface with the glittering jewels of your ocean’s floor. It’s strength, Dominance and submission, war, as well as peace, and star power. The jaws of life that sink terrible teeth into tender flesh, piercing straight through to the heart of the matter. Eight is Venus, both in the evening and the morning.
In conjunction with the advancements available to the Humanitarian, eight’s archetype of the Embodied seizes the controls and with it, the collective. It’s an energetic combination that gives rise to the techno-facist autocrats wreaking havoc on the systems and structures of today. This week, resist bending the knee to those who are acting out their own karmic stories and cycles, refrain from surrendering to realities that are not yet tangible or enforceable, and repel any attempts to hijack, weaponize or otherwise annex your free will.

February 17-23 for Your Yearly CycleTo find your yearly cycle number, add the digits of your month and day of birth to 2025, and reduce until you reach a single digit. For example, the calculation for my birthday of July 7 looks like: 7+7+2+0+2+5 = 23, 2+3 = 5.
Please note that I reduce doubled digit numbers like 11 and 22 to their root numbers when working with yearly cycles, so please calculate and read accordingly.

Creativity and Craft When Chronically Ill
Thank you so much for all of the support for Getting Sick as the Empire Falls: 36 Things I Learned About US Healthcare From Spending 36 Days in the Hospital. It’s not knowledge that I sought out myself, but it has been integrated all the same, so I’m hopeful that these insights can assist others along their own adventures in health and healing.
I’ve been home from the hospital for a month now, and fully intend to make Getting Sick into a series. My outpatient experience has been eye-opening so far into the differences between a hospital setting and a medical office, the varying speeds of scheduling and testing, as well as how capitalism, public versus privatized insurance, and cold, hard cash can change one’s access to comfortable and continuous care.
But for today, to honor the release of Call Your Coven’s latest episode, Chronic Coven: Illness and Spirituality, I want to share my latest witchy workings, in hope that it can help you to further honor and accept your capacity when it comes to the craft.
Thanks for reading swimming in the soup! This post is public so feel free to share it.
My space when she was neat and tidy and ready to write some words!Last weekend, I finally got in my office slash creative laboratory, which had become a dumping ground for all of the stuff we didn’t know what to do with after coming home from the hospital: bags of clothing options and leftover grippy socks, the tarot decks and guidebooks I asked for but never used, the gift box of fuzzy socks, a knitted blanket, loose leaf tea and a mug to drink from, and more from one of my East coast besties, etc. It had also become the catch-all space for packages that arrived while I was “in the wilderness,” stacks of mail that had long been abandoned on the dining room table, and anything else that didn’t have a home, but did have a faint attachment to the girl who left for the ER one night in December and didn’t come home until the following year.
My physical capacity is still a giant question mark. On Tuesday, I went back to the hospital to have x-rays taken of my spine and pelvis. So far, the only result that’s in says my pelvic bones seem relatively unharmed by whatever has taken over the trunk of my skeleton. There are no signs of compression or threats of fracture, and the joints look unremarkable—which is all very good news! The lesions will need more advanced imaging to be seen clearly enough for a progress report, but I already know there’s a repeat PET/CT scan in my future, so I’m trying to stay as patient and unbothered as possible.
Because that really does seem to be the key for staying sane within the healthcare system: You, the one who’s sick or broken or both, must wholly embody the word patient, both as a title you’ve earned but didn’t want, and as a mastered mindset. And you must go forth with an ironic air of detached ease, like you’re waiting for another dirty martini with extra olives instead of information that could change your entire life forever, and ever, amen.
But I digress…
NEW ON CALL YOUR COVEN :
🎧: Chronic Coven: Illness and Spirituality — Sometimes, witches get sick. Or are born sick. Here, we talk about managing and developing our practices while being chronically ill.
We’re also trying out a new conversation format, so if you liked this relaxed, yet exploratory vibe, please let us know in the comments, or by dropping us a note at callyourcoven@gmail.com. Thank you for listening! Share with your witchy bestie!
Gus, my goofy familiar, and my new reading shelf! The cleaning of my creative space was (unofficially) sponsored by Extra Strength Tylenol, my Spotify daylist, and this clawed grabby thingy my wife bought in bulk so I can stay stationary enough to not break in half.
And sheesh, did we do some work together!
But first, I clapped some Florida Water in my palms, lit my Odin’s Daughter Shapeshifter candle (yes, the same one that was playing tricks during the latest Coven episode), grabbed a tjärved wand (a wood from my ancestral practices) and a gorgeous feather I was gifted by a beloved (who found it while wandering the woods), and smoke-cleansed the shit out of the space and all of its inhabitants.
My craft has been so measly for the past couple of years. On pause are the days of full bath rituals—though I was recently cleared to bathe and cannot wait to have a soak—and, like shares in Chronic Coven, running all over the city gathering magical ingredients. My altars are lucky if they get any kind of regular attention, my spirit relationships even more so (sorry spirits, I love you spirits), and even daily tarot pulls have become tedious as my body has degenerated.
But stepping around my space, whispering words of love and tidiness, felt like such a simple and sacred way to bless whatever work is still to come, as well as a hope-filled promise that I will have a future, and that this too shall pass .
After emptying all of the bags, sorting the mail, re-shelving books and card decks, tending to my main altar, and otherwise depleting my physical and energetic stores, I repeated the smudging ritual—lighting the Nordic tjärved wand with Loki’s flame and ushering its pine-scented smoke into every unencumbered nook and cranny with my feather from a friend—giving thanks to my spirits, my tools both mundane and magical, and my beautiful, busted up body for helping me to reclaim and refresh my most cherished corner of my creative craft.
I also left some tasks for another time, a reminder that we are always a work in progress.

All of this is just to say—Your craft must meet you where you are.
There is no prize for pushing yourself past your limits, no trophy to be won for not honoring your capacities, and no gift to make up for what you gave away, when you really didn’t have all that much to begin with.
If you take anything away with you into this weekend, I hope it’s a renewed sense of vigor and trust around making magic in exactly the way that’s accessible to you. Witchcraft, like creativity, can serve many purposes, and yet, I hope that first and foremost, it serves your pleasure, your embodiment, and your connection to all that surrounds you.
It’s not always easy to live in, or love, a chronically ill body, but spiritual practices are always available, even if it looks a little different than what you had planned.
May you find miracles and mystery (the good kind, not the medical kind) today and every day to follow.
So be it, so it is.
Until next time, just keep swimming!xx, beeFebruary 9, 2025
Week #7: February 10-16, 2025
Welcome to the seventh week of the year, where things might look radically different than they did in week one.
We’re just a couple of weeks away from completing our first cycle of nine weeks! Of course, we’ll keep counting up, investigating how different double digit representations of the building block energies create nuance and nourishment, but for now, we’re still experiencing our core numbers in their most pure forms.
After all, in a 9 collective year, every single daily, weekly, and monthly number is amplified.

And the Gifts & Goodies Go To...
Happy Friday, I hope this email finds you. Period. What a week, what a year, what a time. What is time?
I’ve gotten up every day this week at 5:30AM to host early morning co-working hours for some pals from Landscapes. I thought it would be terrible, to rise before the sun, but honestly it’s been quite lovely. My days right now are mostly to-do’s and medical appointments, so to steal a couple of creative hours, in the dark, in virtual space with other makers, has filled up my cup in a tangible way. And I’m getting some words down on the page! They may not be plentiful or smooth, but they’re there, gay as hell, and amusing to me, and that’s enough for now.
Next week, I’m thinking of keeping the same early hours, but using them to do some reading. I have a couple books to read before I get to chat with their incredible authors—which means new swimming in the soup podcast episodes for you in March!—and a few books I meant to read at the end of last year that were wrongfully left to rot on my TBR. Plus, I have an ebook on loan for a few more days on the Libby app, and there’s been some interest in reading some plays as a group in The Soup™ Discord server. Again, my cup runneth over!
I will also be using some of my early morning time to pull cards and put together gifts and goodie bags for my subscriber milestones giveaway!
So without further ado…
Thanks for reading swimming in the soup! This post is public so feel free to share it.
IT PAYS TO BE A FREE FRIENDTo celebrate reaching new subscriber milestones, I’m gifting two free friends a mailed, three-card tarot reading, and another a 6-month comped subscription to swimming in the soup!

Please note: If I don’t hear back from winners by the above date, I’ll draw additional names and the gift will pass on to them.
PAID PALS MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUNDAnd to further show my appreciation for those who have generously offered financial support, I’m also going to be gifting two paid pals a mailed goodie bag of signed books, crystals and other magical tools, stickers, and of course, a three-card tarot reading!
The winners of the goodie bags are Kristi S. and Kristyn M.! I’ve also emailed you both and you also have until Monday, February 10th to claim your gifts.

And while all support is good support, I am eternally grateful for those offering financial support. 2024 was a toughie, and 2025 has already proven to somehow be worse? So thank you for helping me to, as Jeanna Kadlec says, keep the lights on!
May your generosity return to you 100x!

Hi, it's me, Bee!
After years of hair dye, highlights, and a month-long hospital stay, I am officially back to rocking my hair as it naturally grows outta my head! What’s up, swimmers?!
We just hit a few new subscriber milestones here on swimming in the soup! So I wanted to (re-)introduce myself to any new pals, and also announce some gifts as a thank you for all of your support and readership over the years.
Hi, I’m Rebecca, but you can also call me Bee, my pronouns are she/her in a fuck the binary kind of way, and I’m a writer, witch, and weirdo, who wants to help make meaning out of mess. Whether it’s through my films, writing, podcast projects, or client work, I love to explore this thing we call Life through questioning, the pursuit of understanding, and making philosophical or esoteric ideas accessible, all while maintaining a warm sense of humor and an affinity for practical application.
After graduating from New York University, I produced, wrote, directed, and acted in series of short films (two of which had festival runs in New York City and the 2016 Cannes Film Festival’s Short Film Corner) with my first production company, Primordial Jam Productions. I also directed my first full-length play, an independent production of David Auburn’s Proof.
From there, I went on to write, direct and edit video content for W Magazine (Condé Nast), working with incredible talents like Margot Robbie, Greta Gerwig, Nick Jonas, Sadie Sink, etc, and TodayTix, covering various Broadway stars and productions, as well as press day and red carpet coverage at the Tony Awards. I’ve done freelance work for clients like Nike, American Heritage Chocolate (Mars Confectionery), Scary Mommy, and Healthline Media, and have worn various hats on dozens of short film shoots, digital projects, and media coverage for non-profits and independent artists. Most recently, I produced and edited promotional content for both animated and live-action properties at Nickelodeon (Paramount).
When the pandemic shut everything down in 2020, my production work ended up taking a backseat to other creative—and spiritual—aspirations. After privately reading tarot and studying numerology for over a decade, I began sharing my findings through writings, client work, and a Gnostic-inspired podcast called Discourse of the Stranger with the now-defunct Divine Spark Media.
This work culminated in my first traditionally published book, The Witch’s Book of Numbers: Enhance Your Magic With Numerology, which came out in 2022 and is available wherever books are sold. My second book, Marriage by the Numbers: Planning Your Wedding Using Numerology, was published in December 2024 by American Marriage Ministries, a non-profit that ordains interfaith and inclusive officiants. A piece of my flash fiction was recently published in The Star Edition of The Rebis, a print publication celebrating tarot, art and creative writing, and an essay of mine will appear in Tarot in Other Words: An Essential Anthology by Leading Queer Tarot Writers, edited by Cassandra Snow, and forthcoming from Weiser Books in May 2025.
I am also one-third of Call Your Coven: Practical Advice for Nonsensical Times, a new podcast for the spiritually-attuned that blends together numerology (me), astrology (), and the tarot (Meg Jones Wall) into one monthly forecast! You can listen wherever you get your podcasts, or watch on YouTube.
To learn more about me and my work, you can also check out my features in The Guardian, The Cut at New York Magazine, CanvasRebel, and VoyageLA. You can also listen to one of my many podcast appearances, which I’ve compiled into a handy-dandy Spotify playlist:

GIFTS & GOODIES GALOREAfter almost four years of writing here on Substack, I’ve surpassed 1,000 subscribers! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am elated that so many of you would want to welcome my words into your inbox, especially during a time when our attention, focus, and energy are so important and sought-after.
To celebrate, I’m gifting two free friends a mailed, three-card tarot reading, and another a 6-month comped subscription to swimming in the soup !
I have also hit another major milestone of 50+ paid pals! All support is good support, but I am eternally grateful for this financial support. 2024 was a toughie, and 2025 has already proven to somehow be worse? So thank you for helping me to, as Jeanna Kadlec says, keep the lights on!
To show my appreciation, I’m going to be gifting two paid pals a mailed goodie bag of signed books, crystals and other magical tools, stickers, and of course, a three-card tarot reading!
I will be randomly selecting the recipients on Thursday night, and will be announcing them on Friday, February 7th! So, if you have been wanting to support this work, and now want a shot at the mailed goodie bag, you still have a few days to upgrade your subscription!
Please note that winners need to be based in the United States to receive mailed offerings. If you are an international subscriber, or uncomfortable sharing an address, an emailed option for the three-card tarot reading will be offered! I’m doing this of my own accord, no affiliates involved, and other than your subscription, no purchase necessary!
NICE TO MEET YOU! NICE TO SEE YOU! I AM SO HAPPY YOU ARE HERE! I AM SO HAPPY TO BE HERE! THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT! MAY IT RETURN TO YOU ONE-HUNDRED FOLD! SO BE IT, SO IT IS! FEEL FREE TO REPLY OR COMMENT TO SAY HI AND INTRODUCE YOURSELF!
Until next time, just keep swimming!xx, beeFebruary 2, 2025
Week #6: February 3-9, 2025
The sixth week of 2025—the first full week of February—better bring some tenderness because holy shit, January had teeth!
Here’s a simple, somatic practice to try during today’s notable numerology:
TWO TWO (NINE)
02/02/2025
2+2+2+0+2+5 = 13/4
Open a window. If it’s too cold outside, just the blinds will do fine. Strike a match. Light a candle. Release any tension you can part with. Feel into the boundaries of self, home, community, and beyond. Plant your feet on the floor and really let the Earth hold you upright. Consider all of the structures that keep you standing tall: bones, blood, breath, brethren, biosphere. Hold yourself in this moment of connection for as long as you need, letting any and all feelings swell and crash within and without. With one hand on your heart, and the other on your belly, take a deep breath. Hold tight to safety and serenity. So be it, so it is.
So be it, so it is —a perfect mantra for a week that desires a slower pace, despite the swirling cycles of the world at-large.
Especially in a 9 collective year, where every single daily, weekly, and monthly number is amplified.

Photo by Nik on UnsplashSix is the number of growth and responsibility. It’s a nourishing, gentle energy. It hands you a tissue, it cleans up your skinned knee, it pours you a glass of water.
In the face of chaos, change and crisis, one can harden or soften. Either choice is understandable, and in truth, six holds the very tangible dance between these polarities. A transmutation of opposites. Transformation, of body and mind. A widening of spirit. The scattered seeds of what could grow into resentment. A new sense of self, of circumstance, of relating and recuperating. Steel and silk.
That’s the poetry of sex; six.
In plain English, it sounds a bit like:

February 3-February 9 for Your Yearly CycleTo find your yearly cycle number, add the digits of your month and day of birth to 2025, and reduce until you reach a single digit.
This week’s forecast is part bibliomancy from the stack of books instructing and informing a book project I’m learning to write. I’ve included links with each entry—support an independent bookstore while kicking some back my way—but encourage you to try the Libby app to check out eBooks from your local library!

February 2025: Bless This Mess
Welcome to February, the second month of this nine-ruled year. To quote Adam Scott, from a show that’s not Severance , “Are we having fun yet?”
You’ll have to excuse my gallows humor… It’s really all that seems to spill from me these days. That, and the text I sent my Call Your Coven co-hosts last night, which read, “Watch me have a public crisis of faith in 2025.” (They were immediately supportive, which is some truly beautiful ride-or-die behavior.)
I always try and bring a sense of positivity and optimism to every bit of correspondence I send out, and it’s something that many of you have commented on appreciating over the years. It is truly amazing how we can be buoyed by another’s ceaseless hope! But as I was reminded by writer —and shared with those cycling through a personal 3-year this week—there is deep importance in admitting when we’re really in it, and scared.*
And we seem to be really in it these days, whether it be emotionally, physically, psychically, spiritually, politically, or otherwise. Being scared is a logical response.
Below, you’ll find musings on the energy of February, some practical advice from the Coven’s latest forecast, and ways to observe a smattering of dates with notable numerology. But first, I want to reiterate that we are all just swimming in the soup together, and right now, the waters are choppy as hell!
You’re not alone. I am right here with you. We will get through this, even if we are FINE: freaked out, insecure, neurotic, and emotional, every step of the way.
(And yes, that is a reference to The Italian Job.)
I am also holding tight to a win today! After almost four years of writing here on Substack, I’ve reached 1,000 subscribers! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am elated that so many of you would want to welcome my words into your inbox. I am also just a couple of paid pals away from hitting another major milestone, so if you have been wanting to support this work, now is a great time to upgrade your subscription! Then, there will be gifts!
*Sophie Strand, who is quoted above, is the most special of souls and also very sick and asking for support! If you are able to offer financial help, which will go to a new, but expensive treatment plan, you can donate to her GoFundMe (started by her mother, Perdita Finn). The initial goal has been met, but as anyone who’s navigated life-altering health crises will tell you, every bit of support is a miracle.

Photo by Jan Canty on UnsplashFEBRUARY 2025: BLESS THIS MESSWhen I share monthly information here on SITS, I try to come up with my own tagline, and not just copy Call Your Coven. But this month, Bless This Mess just feels incredible apropos.
Our monthly number for February is two (2), but when we add two (2) to the yearly number of nine (9), we get eleven (11).
Eleven has been working on us since late last year, when it showed up as one of our monthly numbers in November, with the directive to get in touch with our favorite self. Then, it popped up in December, asking us to continue seeking answers to WWYFSD? (What Would Your Favorite Self Do?), so that we could continue to act from that place of centered being. January didn’t highlight eleven per se, but it did bring us an opportunity to know ourselves, and a pair of twins in terms of the monthly numeral of one (1), which when added to 2025’s yearly cycle, reduced again to one (1).
Now, in February, the combination of eleven (11) with its root number of two (2) highlights both sides of the coin of choice and indecision . Everything we’ve worked towards for the last handful of months is going to help us clarify which option we want to choose and why .
Don’t let others cloud your judgment or rile you up this month. Everything is going to feel really intense, and using your emotions against you is a tactic. If you’re too upset to think straight, you’re too upset to see through the facade, and you’re definitely too upset to take grounded action.
My practical advice for February, which you can hear in full on Call Your Coven’s latest forecast, is getting really good at regulating your nervous system, so you can start to put more time between your reaction and your action, and therefore take action from a more centered, rooted, authentic place. We don’t always get to choose our circumstances, but we can choose how we show up to greet them.
Two rules the heart and the hands, so when you find yourself in the emotional mud this month, see what can you do or make to get back into your body, back to your loving core, and then move forward from there. When in doubt, rest, wait, take a break, do something you love, talk to someone you love, and then try again.

NOTABLE NUMEROLOGY IN FEBRUARY
Photo by Wilhelm Gunkel on UnsplashTWO TWO (NINE)
FULL MOON IN LEO
02/12/2025
2+1+2+2+0+2+5 = 14/5
What would you change, if you only had the courage and support to do so? What adventures would you embark on, if you knew you couldn’t fail? How have you embraced courage, strength, and perseverance since August of 2024, the last time we saw a Leo lunation? Perhaps you sit with a pen and paper and muse on these topics today. Maybe the answers spring forth, like Athena from Zeus, and you’d rather take action, big or small, towards The Next. Whatever you do, remember to keep your wits about you. There is an eye of every storm, a chance to catch your breath and remember who you are and what you’re made of. Change can be fun, it can be frightful, it can be feral, or fatal. Call on your angels and guides. Get to it!
TWO TWO TWO (NINE)
02/22/2025
2+2+2+2+0+2+5 = 15/6
You are in the right place, at the right time. That mantra gets tricky sometimes, especially if you detest your circumstances. Try it on for size anyway. See how it feels in your mouth and your mind. Say it in the morning, the afternoon, and the evening, and witness any shifts in your state of being. Look through its eyes as you move throughout your day—What if you really were at the right place, at the right time? How would that color your interactions and experiences? Say it before bed as a prayer. Give thanks for all of the miniscule miracles that materialized in front of you, or unfolded around you. Send love to yourself, others, and the world.
NEW MOON IN PISCES
02/27/2025
2+2+7+2+0+2+5 = 20/2
In whatever way you can today, get really quiet. Not so quiet that you can’t hear yourself think, or you get lost to the void, but quiet enough that you can allow yourself to just be here now. Release any and all judgments as they arise. The brain’s job is to solve problems, so if it gets too bored, sometimes it’ll just make up things to solve. But the brain doesn’t get to take center stage today. This new moon is for the heart. It’s for the soul. It’s for the psyche. It’s for all the pieces of you that exist outside of this earthly realm. Today, gift yourself silence, but also eternal love. Compassion. Optimism. Faith, and hope. Trust might come later, but you’re on that path too. Breathe in forgiveness, and exhale retribution. Stay quiet enough to remember that you are love incarnate.
You’re not alone. I am right here with you. We will get through this, even if we are FINE: freaked out, insecure, neurotic, and emotional, every step of the way.
Until next time, just keep swimming!xx, beeJanuary 26, 2025
Week #5: January 27-February 2
The fifth week will bridge the gap between the first and second months of 2024.
January, a one month, and February, a two month, bring us collectively back to the beginning of the cycle. To the most spirited of sparks and the most tender of buds. They show us what it truly means to start again, to put one foot in front of the other towards connecting the dots between this and that, and to ground into our centers, while not forgetting to consider those around us.
But we’re in the final year in a series that’s been playing out for almost a decade, so January and February of 2025 are actually the beginning of the end. That’s messy business… Things are changing day-by-day. Just take a good look around!

Photo by John Cameron on UnsplashFive is the number of freedom and adventure. It’s the messy middle, which riles up our stomachs, and asks us to get in the ring and experience life.
When it comes to the tarot’s Minor Arcana, nobody likes to pull a five. They’re sticky energies; ripe with conflict, distress, poverty, grief, disappointment, and anguish. But as the saying goes, the only way out is through, and so when the five of cups, swords, pentacles, or wands finds itself upright on the table, the poor recipient knows to gird their loins and prepare for discomfort or discontent. The two Major Arcana cards ruled by five—The Hierophant and Temperance—are a bit friendlier, encouraging us to be our own spiritual authorities, while leaving room for both moderation and miracles, but by in large, fives are unsettling.
That being said, five can also be a beacon of fun, pleasure, transformation, play, joy, and ease! Not all changes are hard or undesired. Oftentimes, we can’t wait to try something new, whether it be a new hobby, hair color, or habitat. Five’s archetype, The Changemaker, rules the tipping point, which might feel like a relief after the rigidity of four. And one doesn’t embody the 2025 archetype of The Humanitarian until they’ve been through a few metamorphoses. This week, see if you can’t weather the storms with enthusiasm and flexibility, two qualities that don’t bypass hardship, but rather allow you to eagerly engage with the full spectrum of the human experience.
