12/27: The Friday Five
Happy final Friday of 2024! The next time I make one of these lists, it’ll be next year! But today is December 27, 2024, a 12/3 day, which when added to our yearly number of 8, gives us an overall core value of 20/2.
The twentieth card in the tarot is Judgment, a beacon of reflection, awakening, and revolution, and in some cases, a literal calling card from the heavens! In combination with narrative-driven three, and the Topsy-turvey twelfth card of the tarot, The Hanged One, today feels like a potent invitation to check out your year in the rear-view from a place of compassionate honesty.
What can you forgive yourself or others for? How can you tend to yourself in the space of disappointment between expectation and reality? Are you in need of any gentle or radical re-frames? What genre would you say your year most closely resembles? What growth arcs did your character evolve through? Are there any stories that are still in progress as you shift into 2025?
Most of all, two is the number of love, kindness, and compassion. Show yourself an extra dose of all three, here at the end of an arduous year. You deserve it.
A few announcements before The Friday Five:

THE FRIDAY FIVE 🖐️Today’s installment of The Friday Five is a bit different, but hopefully no less comforting, seeing as they are all items that have brought me joy in the hospital, where I’ve been since the day after I sent the December 6th list!
In the last twenty days, I have had six scans, which revealed five spinal fractures, followed by three biopsies, and a Christmas Eve hysterectomy that doubled as a fourth biopsy, to try and diagnose the cause of seemingly metastatic bone lesions and other damage. Next week, I will likely undergo a second surgery to get a more concrete diagnosis, which will then likely lead to an extensive treatment regimen.
I am incredibly grateful for all of the caretakers who have shown up for my family and me during the scariest days of my life. My wife is a fucking rockstar, our mothers are angels (who also decorated our room with a tiny glass Christmas tree and a crafty paper cup menorah!), our friends are endless wells of love and support, and my medical team is large, lovely, and committed to figuring this out.
Still, I’m ready for my medical anomaly era to be over!
Here’s what’s gotten me through these wacky weeks:
Esmeralda the Unicorn Balloon — I am so fucking lucky to have the greatest support system a girl could ask for, and to have received such an abundance of love and gifts from far and wide. Esmeralda, who was sent by one group of beloveds and named by another, has brought such joy, not only to me, but to nurses, doctors, and hospital volunteers alike! She’s deflating a bit now, but she’s still got some life left in her (just like me hehehe).
Another contender was Maude, but I feel like she has a more youthful spirit!See’s Candies — A childhood slash forever favorite, we’ve housed not one, not two, but three boxes of See’s Candies in however many days we’ve been here. While my favorite box is the Soft Centers, the Assorted Mix, the Milk Chocolate, and the Truffles have really come in handy when the news was upsetting and/or the waiting proved torturous. (Edit: We opened the fourth box last night, after I was cleared to eat a regular diet again!)
Pictured here are the Soft Centers, my very favorite! But beware, they’re hard to find outside of a proper See’s Candies storefront.Illness and the Myth of Strength by Andrea Gibson — This piece, by the incomparable Andrea Gibson, dropped into my inbox at exactly the right moment and has held me throughout many more since the first reading. Specifically the line: “There isn’t a healthy body in the world stronger than a sick person’s spirit.” Amen, amen, amen.
Things That Don't SuckIllness and the Myth of StrengthIn 2010, after I’d spent a very long time so sick with Lyme Disease I was barely able to walk, I finally felt strong enough to attend a yoga class. By strong enough I mean I’d built up the courage to walk into one of the trendiest yoga studios in one of the most fitness-focused cities in the world, knowing I would have to spend half of the class resting…Read more18 days ago · 1074 likes · 133 comments · Andrea GibsonBeWell IV Zip Hoodie — Genius idea alert! Made by a fellow “chronie,” BeWell’s slogan is Products that make living with a chronic illness a little easier, and this hoodie (also brought by my mother-in-law) is the perfect example of just how much they’re succeeding at their mission. It’s soft, it’s bright and cheery, and it zips down both sleeves, so you can stay warm and receive life-saving treatment at the same time! BRB, buying a whole new wardrobe!
I know the holidays are over, but it’s always a good time to buy something practical and stylish for the chronically ill cutie in your life!Anatomy of Lies — Perhaps an odd choice for me to watch under my current circumstances, but this three-part documentary series on Peacock about a Grey’s Anatomy writer who faked spine cancer (among other things) was a truly wild ride from beginning to end! Based on a series of Vanity Fair articles written by Evgenia Peretz in 2022, the falsehoods of Elisabeth Finch are sure to shock, awe, and enrage you. If you’re into that sort of thing!
Getting to feel personally offended, while also being wildly entertained, was a sick bonus I didn’t see coming… Pun intended. Thanks for reading swimming in the soup! This post is public so feel free to share it.
Happy Friday! Let me know what you think of this ongoing segment, what’s gotten you through your week, and/or if you love any of the things I love! <3
Also, if you’re an avid fan of Grey’s, who is now seeing certain storylines in a whole new light post-Anatomy of Lies, I WANNA TALK TO YOU!
Until next time, just keep swimming!xx, beeDecember 18, 2024
All About the Winter Solstice
When we recorded Call Your Coven’s December forecast way back in November, I had no idea just how spot on I would be about this month’s beautiful, but tricky energy of everything, everywhere, all at once. I also predicted this overall 11/2 month would bring forth many choices to make, but as the month has played out, I’ve realized that I neglected to foresee how this numeric combination would manifest as having to surrender to unexpected circumstances, practice patience and perseverance, and simply deal with not having a choice in the matter. If this has been your experience as well, I am holding your hand and brewing you a cup of something warm and yummy to drink.
Still, December 2024 is flying by and soon it will be January 2025. We are spinning through the final lessons of this eight (8) collective year, and preparing for all that the nine (9) year will bring. We are sifting and sorting and wrapping things up, and perhaps preparing for holidays and travels and gatherings big and small.
But first, because time is fickle and relentless, this weekend brings us another turn of the wheel, and another seasonal threshold to cross—the winter solstice.
Until the end of the year, you can subscribe as a paid pal here at SITS for 25% off forever! In 2025, your investment will bring you weekly numerological forecasts for your yearly cycle number, and quarterly insights from the tarot on the solstices and equinoxes, in addition to first dibs on future offerings, and access to The Soup™ Discord server (which opens back up on 12/28!).
Photo by Pigoff PhotographY on UnsplashHappening this Saturday, December 21st, the winter solstice, also known as the hibernal solstice, marks the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. From the Latin solstitium, meaning the “point at which the sun seems to stand still,” this uneven day sees the Sun’s most succinct path in the sky (due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis), which results in the year’s longest and darkest night.
While the widening gyre of capitalism demands a continous schedule of labor and production, the winter season ushers in a natural slowing, a steady march towards sleep and death, and a chance to rest and (hopefully) relax. And even though the necropolitics of the colonial West fuel machines of war, famine, and the extinguishing of life and diversity, it promotes and practices a culture that is quite death-averse. So it’s no wonder that the deep darkness of winter has become synonymous with danger and destruction.
However, the pagan roots of the winter solstice remind us that this seasonal shift is actually an opportunity to reconnect to the radical and reasonable rhythms of the land. As Yasmina Floyer writes for Cunning Folk Magazine, “Darkness brings connotations of malevolence, but it can also be nurturing and replenishing. It is the soil that holds bulbs and seeds deep within its belly until they are ready to split come spring. It is the depth that we sink into each night when we close our eyes.”1
Themes of the winter solstice include rest and reflection, renewal and rebirth, taking stock and giving thanks, and trusting that slowly, but surely the light will return. It invites us to sit in our own depth and darnkess, in order to both practice the art of surrender and release, and build strength and resilience. Light the good candles, brew a cup of something cozy, and call upon your nearest and dearest as we venture into deep winter and the new year ahead.
ICYMI:A NOTE ON YULE: From the Old English geól, and the Old Norse jól (a heathen feast that lasts twelve days), Yule is a midwinter celebration with roots in Nordic, Celtic and Germanic traditions. It is also included in The Witch’s Wheel of the Year, which encompasses the yearly cycle of the eight festivals, or sabbats: the solar equinoxes and solstices, plus the midway points between them. Though it has roots in many schools of religious and secular thought, the Wheel as we know it today was dictated by neopagans and Wiccans in the 1970s. Like the Gregorian calendar, it’s a man-made amalgamation of various themes and traditions, which we can still work with in our magical practices. If the Wheel speaks to you, Yule is the festival that falls on the winter solstice.

To work with the most precise number magic of the winter solstice each year, you’ll need to calculate the numeric energies present on that specific day(s) by adding the month and the day to the current year, and reducing until you get a single digit.
THE WINTER SOLSTICE 2024 — 12/21/2024
December 21 (1+2+2+1) is a palindrome and a 6 day, which rules gentle growth and expansion, nurturing and caretaking, family, resposibility, boundaries, and moving with ease and grace.
December 21, 2024 (1+2+2+1+2+0+2+4) is an overall 14/5 day, which is represented by Temperance in the tarot, and offers us a moment to gather with earthly and otherworldly kin, embrace radical change with empathy and understanding, and find shimmers of joy in even the hardest of times.
The winter solstice is a day to find hope in the darkness every year, but this year’s ruling combination of 5 and 6 energies are plunging us further into the depths of weathering messy storms through love in action. Let these numbers hold you when the going gets tough, and remind you that you are always deserving of tender love and care. When planning rituals or ceremonies, these numbers want you to use your most beloved and cherished magical tools, center your heart when casting spells, and even calling in your coven to help amplify your workings.
Thanks for reading swimming in the soup! This post is public so feel free to share it.
Here are some additional ideas for crafting and observing the winter solstice from both a magical and numerological perspective. Consider how you could incorporate these items into your altar or ritual work, and get as creative and witchy as you want!
MUNDANE WINTER MAGIC
Light a candle on a windowsill • Make a seasonal simmer pot • Take an early morning walk in nature and collect fallen cones and leaves • Embrace change • Make a batch of something sweet and take them to a friend or neighbor • Wear your coziest sweater • Curl up with a cup of tea • Read something on your TBR list • Watch a nostalgic or comforting movie • Put out seasonally scented soaps • Pull out the biggest or warmest blankets or quilts • Tell someone you love them • Hang a wreath on the front door • Clean and bless your home • Expand your window of tolerance • Sing carols or songs that bring joy • Reflect on the year and look towards the new year ahead • Reconnect with a loved one you haven’t spoken to in a while • Hang mistletoe in a doorway and smooch with abandon • Give thanks • Draw a warm bath • Be open to recieve blessings from all directions
PRACTICES TO PILOT
Burning of the Yule Log — Logs of oak have long been burnt in a ritual of good tidings and wishes for the winter season, as well as the new year ahead. If you have a fireplace, or even a firepit in the backyard, take a piece of old or found wood (don’t take from a living tree, as it’s seen as bad luck!), anoint it with seasonal herbs or oils (see below for ideas), and light it on solstice eve! If you feel so inclined, you can even write wishes or intentions on paper and tie them to the log to burn throughout the night.
Exchanging of Gifts — Generosity and service are core values of the winter season, and a symbol of goodwill and light in the darkest of times. Old world rituals have evolved into modern traditions of presents under the tree and stockings hung by the fire, but don’t be afraid to get creative, sincere or practical with your gift exchanges. (PS. For the reader in your life, check out my favorite books of the year, or send them one of mine!)
Hosting a Feast of Fools — Feasts and racous revelry were staples of midwinter in medieval England, in response to the strict rule of the Christian church. A ‘Lord of Misrule’ was named to keep a lid on the festivities, so pick your most responsible friend, or the most hospitable host, and plan a night of mirth and merriment!
Photo by krakenimages on UnsplashFOOD FOR THE WINTER STORES — Garlic • Onions • Cinammon • Cardamom • Peppermint • Tea • Coffee • Cakes • Cookies • Citrus fruits • Wine • Ale or beer
COLORS TO GET CREATIVE WITH — Red • Forest green • White • Yellow • Black • Brown • Gold
PLANT PALS TO PLAY WITH — Holly • Mistletoe • Pine needles and cones • Oak • Cedar • Juniper • Fir
STONES TO ADORN YOURSELF WITH — Black obsidian • Citrine • Carnelian • Smoky quartz • Clear quartz • Lapis lazuli • Garnet • Amethyst
Mix and match. See what lights you up or gets you excited. Set an intention and ask for items, colors or crystals that wish to be included in your seasonal craft to make themselves known to you. Permission yourself to do what feels right and natural. It doesn’t have to be involved or picture perfect. It just has to be intentional.
May you find peace and light in this deep, dark time of year. May you be surrounded by love, joy and whatever nourishment you need to fill your cup. May the waning of this year allow for you to bid farewell to all that you are ready to release. And may you enter into the coming year refreshed and renewed.
SENDING YOU ENDLESS BLESSINGS FOR THIS NEW SEASON AND THE NEW YEAR TO COME

Bee's Best Books of 2024
Oh, my sweet swimmers. Life sure is a wild ride. I hope this Friday the 13th—a day devoted to goddess worship and celebrating the creative cycle of life, death, and rebirth—finds you well, safe, whole, sane, and wildly supported by all that surrounds you. Or at least one or two of the above.
Today’s letter comes at you from my hospital bed—the most liminal of spaces—where I am neither very well, nor truly sane. (It’s honestly bonkers I’m even sending this!) But I am wildly supported, and by more than I could ever whittle down into a list of what’s been getting me through this particular week. So in the spirit of the Friday Five, I’m going to instead share my 11 favorite reads of 2024!

12/6: The Friday Five
Happy December! Happy 12/6, a 9 day, which when added to our yearly number of 8, gives us an overall core value of 17/8. First and foremost, you’ve reached a digital resting point. Take a deep breath, right here, right now. Take two maybe.
Today could feel momentous. It could feel combustible. It could feel even insurmountable! Especially towards the end of a week of heavy and chaotic global events: [please click all links with caution and discernment] the declaration of martial law by the could-be impeached president of South Korea, a 7.0 earthquake with a (canceled) tsunami warning off the coast of Northern California, the public murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO in New York, and historic, but deeply activating court cases in both the United States and France.
The numerology of today also aligns with that of the Full Moon in Gemini, which exacts on the 15th. Currently in Aquarius—another air sign—the moon is waxing towards its first snag of the cycle, and adding even more complex flavor to the present moment is Mercury’s cazimi (the midpoint in its retrograde cycle) with the Sun in fiery Sagittarius, and Mars, the ruler of action and drive, stationing retrograde in the solar-powered sign of Leo—another fire sign. The sky is skying! It’s busy! So perhaps some medicine for today lies in the full moon prescriptions found in December’s newsletter on choosing your own adventure:
Think back on the entirety of 2024: What goals, if any, did you set? What’s come to fruition and still needs to be acknowledged? What’s still in progress? What actions can you take towards those goals right now? What habits, behaviors and routines need to change in order to create space for further effort? What pieces of your desires have died off and need to be released? Do breathwork. Write your own monologue or soliloquy. Have a good cry. Be in your body. Focus on peace. Rest. Renewal. Rebirth. Practice hope in community. Move slowly. Take good care.
Whichever poison you pick, remember today will pass, and tomorrow will come. Now will fold into the next, just as waves kiss the sandy shoreline before returning to the salted seas. Eight insists on infinity, but the limitations of the unfurling of time is a key lesson of the number nine—one that will be ever-present with us next year, in 9-ruled 2025. Stay present, stay alert, stay flexible, stay connected.
Some announcements before The Friday Five:

THE FRIDAY FIVE 🖐️Here’s what’s gotten me through this wacky week:
things take the time they take, an essay by — In a deeply personal, yet universal (for creative types), essay, Jeanna calls upon the wisdom of Saint Mary Oliver, “Things take the time they take. / Don't worry. / How many roads did St. Augustine follow before he became St. Augustine?” While this essay was written and published over a month ago, I find myself continuing to return to it as I wrestle with my own timeline demons. Perhaps you can take some comfort and witnessing in Jeanna’s words too?
Jeanna’s out here asking the real questions, istg…Capital B-Bad Christmas Movies: Every year, my wife and I not-so-patiently await December for the terrible, made-for-tv-or-streaming Christmas movies to arrive. Then, we play our favorite game: Who can guess the plot of the movie the closest based on only the poster? Eventually, we pick one and watch it, laughing all the way at poor production design, shitty scripts, and unbelilevably atrocious acting. Christmas, as God intended. So far this year, Christmas in Pine Valley is winning for the worst, but it’s only the 6th!
The guy is VERY bad at acting—like a wooden nutcracker come to life—and the woman looks different in every photo and at every angle… It’s AMAZING!Archive Of Our Own, aka AO3 — As I’ve already outed myself as an avid reader and writer of fanfiction, it shouldn’t be shocking to see AO3 make one of these lists. It’s vast, it’s free, and it hasn’t been outlawed yet! So pick a pairing, adjust your filters, and set sail on the ship of your dreams. Remember to leave kudos and comments! Oh, and if you need help finding something, let me know—I’ll be your personal smut shopper this cuffing season.
This cute lil guy was drawn by tumblr user iheartfurrympreg, which is all you need to know about how the hellsite is doing in the year of our lord 2024!Uncommon Goods — That’s not an affiliate link, but it honestly should be because I love shopping for gifts on Uncommon Goods! It was grown out of a love for craft fairs, and connects consumers with independent and unique artisans and makers whose products serve a purpose, solve a problem, are handmade, unusual, and ethically made, or otherwise stun with their beauty (copy lovingly borrowed and modified from their website). I always find super fun items for reasonable prices for everyone on my list, and the shipping is typically pretty fast! May your holiday shopping be pain, and crowd, free!
Beware: You’re going to find a lot of things you want too…Trader Joe’s Rose Water Facial Toner — Much to my chagrin, I haven’t been able to shop in-person at TJ’s lately, but thankfully this little bottle of rose water toner hasn’t run out yet. Not only does it feel refreshing on my face, but its sweet and subtle smell is perfect for when you just need a little spritz of something. And for $3.99, the price just can’t be beat! Not much is making me feel super beautiful or fresh these days as I rot in my bed, but this has helped!

December 2024: Choose Your Own Adventure
What’s up, swimmers?! Happy December! Happy New Moon in Sagittarius! Happy Mercury, and soon to be Mars, Retrograde? Double check your travel tickets!
The final month of any year always holds a certain amount of energetic significance since it’s the culmination of the overall cycle. However, this December holds particular weight because it’s not only the last month of 2024, but will usher us into 2025, a global 9 year that will wrap up a collective story that’s been playing out since 2017.
December 2024 also has quite a few ruling numbers, which I share in Call Your Coven’s December forecast, gives the month a bit of a choose your own adventure vibe. A little of this, a little of that. Either, or. Both/and. Everything, everywhere, all at once.
First, we can look at the digits of the calendar month itself: 12, a mathematically “abundant” number, and a common grouping across history, culture, myth, and magic—the 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 members of a jury, 12 apostles, 12 Gods of Olympus, Ocean’s Twelve, etc—which reduces to 3. Then, when added to the yearly cycle number of 8, December 2024 has an overall energy of 11, a Doubled Digit we can keep whole, or reduce to its root number of 2.
It’s an interesting dichotomy that the single digit numbers represent the second and third steps towards the beginning of a cycle, while the the double(d) digits herald the eleventh and twelfth steps, the penultimate and final of the adventure. Especially when we consider the Winter Solstice (which will get its own write-up later in the month) as the shortest day of the year, but also the promise of the return of the light. There are also two new moons in this two ruled month.

Photo by AHMAD HASAN on UnsplashDECEMBER 2024: CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTUREWe’re still in the beginning of a new cycle, which started last month when we had 1 energy at the core of November. Spoiler alert: January is going to have us starting over again, so November and December are acting as a couplet of months that are preparing us for the year ahead. We have a very different understanding of our collective circumstances today then we did a month ago. More pieces of the puzzle are coming together, yet we are in limbo between the way things are now, and the way they will be. We are also still our own authorities, the keepers of our heart’s desires, and the only ones who can save us.
There are quite a few choices to be made this month. The good news is that 11 is going to continue to help us access both the bigger picture, so we can better understand the overall landscape of our choices, allies and comrades, points of entry, direction, and destination, and our ideal situation, so we can choose what is authentic and aligned, but also inspired and interconnected. If we were able to practice touching in with, and acting as, our favorite selves in November, then this work should feel easier. If not, start now, for there’s no time like the present.
Especially at the end of a beautiful and brutal eight year, which rules desire and drive, following your heart this month will help you with these explorations. Spend time with the following questions: What/who is important to you? What/who do you value? What/who are you connected to? What/who lights you up? What/who keeps you soft?
Wrap up this year in whatever way feels good, potent, and right. Take good, gentle care of yourself. Pay attention to what’s ending and find ways to honor that. Celebrate what there is to celebrate. Commune with those you hold dear. Say what you need to say. Finish your projects. Cut ties with that which no longer serves. Don’t leave anything on the table. Next year, we’re wrapping things up as a collective, but it’s going to be a lot easier to honor what’s dying on a grand scale if you already have a sense of purpose and direction on a personal level.

Confide in a loved one. Remind yourself that hope is a practice. Have a cup of something warm with your optimism, your cynicism, your passion, and your apathy. Honor your no. Claim your full body YES. Read a book you loved as a child. Speak an expansive mantra aloud to yourself in the mirror. Celebrate a recent win! Allow yourself to rest. Make ritual magic. Write down three intentions for the final month of the year. Write down three things to leave behind in 2024. Make a joy list. Scream into a pillow. Hang out. Hang loose.

Sit in a comfortable space, and breathe in through the nose, out through the mouth, in a smooth, repetitive rhythm. Daydream. Contemplate the ways in which you practice restriction, moderation, and over-indulgence. Complain or vent in a safe, consensual space. Give thanks.
FULL MOON IN GEMINI
12/15/2024
1+2+1+5+2+0+2+4 = 17/8
Think back on the entirety of 2024: What goals, if any, did you set? What’s come to fruition and still needs to be acknowledged? What’s still in progress? What actions can you take towards those goals right now? What habits, behaviors and routines need to change in order to create space for further effort? What pieces of your desires have died off and need to be released? Do breathwork. Write your own monologue or soliloquy. Have a good cry. Be in your body. Focus on peace. Rest. Renewal. Rebirth. Practice hope in community. Move slowly. Take good care.
NEW MOON IN CAPRICORN
12/30/2024
1+2+3+0+2+0+2+4 = 14/5
Take stock of the changes you’d like to make in the new year. Ask the angels for a sign and keep your eyes peeled. Do or watch something silly that makes you laugh. Explore threshold magic. Kiss, hug, laugh, be merry. Consider the ways in which you’ve changed since the New Moon in Sagittarius. Be with what’s in process. Sit in a comfortable space, and breathe in through the nose, out through the mouth, in a smooth, repetitive rhythm. Contemplate the ways in which you practice restriction, moderation, and over-indulgence. Tie up loose ends. Give thanks. Look back. Look down. Look up. Look forward.

11/29: The Friday Five
Happy 11/29, an overall 3 day of creation and expression! And speaking of 3s, a lovely reader let me know that yesterday, 11/28, was the 333rd day of 2024. I mused that perhaps it would be a sneak peek of next year’s collective 9 energy? So perhaps you’d like to sit with a pen and paper and take some notes of what occured for you personally, but also what you observed on a more global level…
Below is the second installment of The Friday Five, a new weekly offering where I share 5 things that are getting me through each wacky week.
ICYMI — Here’s last week’s list (which includes a witchy gift at the end):
But The Friday Five is not the only new kid in town here on SITS!
Until the end of the year, you can subscribe as a paid pal here at SITS for 25% off forever! THE FRIDAY FIVE 🖐️Here’s what’s gotten me through this wacky week:
Holding my new book, Marriage by the Numbers: Planning Your Wedding Using Numerology, in my hands before its December 3rd release! — I have been pretty down on myself lately (yes, while in the middle of a debilitating pain flare, because that’s when the brain gremlins are the strongest) about not reaching any of my writing goals this year. But then, I received a perfect package of purple: my new book! Out on Tuesday from American Marriage Ministries. And whew, she is pretty! You can read more about her in this interview I gave, bookmark the AMM Store to snag a copy next week, and RSVP to my virtual launch party on 12/3 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET, where I’ll be reading from the book and also exploring special dates live with attendees!
ORLA GARTLAND ORLA GARTLAND ORLA GARTLAND — I’ve loved this Irish singer-songwriter since her YouTube days of covering Fleetwood Mac by a creek, and this week I got to see Orla play live at the legendary Troubadour in LA! She was amazing, and her band of just two other bad babes totally rocked. The tour was to play her latest album, Everybody Needs a Hero, but since it was Orla’s first U.S. tour, the concert was more of a career retrospective, so I got to hear some of my old faves. Check her out! Support independent artists! Plus, a huge shout-out to the Troubadour staff that ensured my poor little broken body had a seat to enjoy the show in!
“The Invisible Man,” by Patrick Fealy in Esquire — This firsthand account of homelessness in America is a heartwrenching, but important read. When it was first shared in the ’s discord, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to engage with it, as it confirms a huge fear: most of us, myself included, are only one crisis away from total devastation. But Fealy’s experiences with mental health struggles, an expensive healthcare system, the shifting roles and growing malice of the police, and the indifference and apathy of humanity are sadly not unique. Take care while reading.
Wicked (Part One) — Despite being one of my very favorite musicals, I was admittedly enraged at the idea of splitting Wicked into two movies, especially when I found out that the runtime of Act/Part One was 10 minutes longer than the entire stage show! However, after seeing John M. Chu’s latest screen adaptation, I’m making a meal of my previous words! It’s unbelievable! Incredible! Tear-jerking! Visually stunning! And Cynthia and Ariana are pitch perfect! If you’re on the fence, let me shove you to the other side with glee!
Moonlight: A New Place for Tarot — This one’s a bit of a cheat this week seeing as I am one of Moonlight’s professional readers, but I’ve been largely bedridden for weeks now and my daily tarot practice has gone out the window. So it’s been amazing to go on Moonlight, create my own room, pick from a variety of tarot decks, and do my daily pulls right there on the computer. I’ve even been able to record readings for clients from bed! I know that digital decks aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but this accessible resource has really come in handy for my personal pulls, and if you spend a few minutes clicking around the platform, you’ll see that it has so much to offer.
Thanks for reading swimming in the soup! This post is public so feel free to share it.
Happy Friday! Let me know what you think of this new segment, and if you love any of the things I love! <3
Until next time, just keep swimming!xx, beeNovember 22, 2024
11/22: The Friday Five
Happy 11/22! A date that perhaps holds numerological significance with those Doubled Digits, but is first and foremost my wife’s and my wedding anniversary! Yes, we did elect to get married on a 6 day (1+1+2+2 = 6), and yes we did get married two days after our dating anniversary because the astrology was also better that day! And that was years before I would start thinking about numerology and wedding planning in an in depth way.
It’s also an overall 5 day this year (1+1+2+2+2+0+2+4 = 14, 1+4 = 5), so I thought it was the perfect date to kick off a new segment of SITS called The Friday Five 🖐️. The world is wacky, so almost-every Friday I’m going to pop into your inbox with 5 things that helped me get through the week.
These could be articles, books, movies, television shows, inspirational quotes, really cool people or communities, places visited, bath or beauty products, crafts, hobbies, decisions I made, witchy practices, new ideas, spiritual tools, YouTube videos, and more!
And while sometimes this list might include links to purchase, I am going to keep it as anti-capitalist as possible. I don’t have many extra dollars these days, so the point of these shares is to provide joy, sustenance and accessible resources. It also won’t include TikToks or Instagram posts because I’m not active on those platforms right now. Memes are free game though, especially blasphememes!
I hope you enjoy today’s inaugural list! And keep reading for year-ahead offerings, gifts, and goodies!
THE FRIDAY FIVE 🖐️WeightedHeat™ XL Extra-long Full Back Heating Pad by Comfytemp — Okay, I know I said this was a low-spend list, but I’ve been in a terrible pain flare for over a week now, and I’ve spent so much time wrapped up in this bad boy it’s basically become a second skin. It’s big, it’s warm, it’s electric, and it’s my very best friend. And no, that’s not an affiliate link or a spon-con moment, I truly just love it so much and wouldn’t be the woman I am today without it.
Oh wow, what a lovely blue! Mine’s gray.Love Island Australia Season 6 — In our 8 years together (4 married as of today), Stacey and I have watched every single episode of Love Island UK, USA, and AUS. In fact, we rented an AirBnb for a long weekend during the pandemic for the sole purpose of watching S3 of Love Island AUS in its entirety. So of course we’ve been devouring the current season as new episodes drop almost-daily. (I also must confess that when one was glitching, I wrote to Hulu to let them know… It was fixed by the next day. Did my message save the entire Love Island franchise? Time will tell.
Funny thing: the middle boy, Indigo is the only Aussie in this promo photo. Dylan, on the left, is Irish and Steph, on the right, is French! The below meme, which reads: today i will be gentle with myself. unless of course i make even one mistake in which case i will be very hard on myself. — WHEW BABY I FELT THIS IN MY KNEECAPS. A good reminder to drink some water, take a few deep breaths, and be fucking nice to your sweet self. You’re doing the very best you can, and everything is a shit-show right now. Now, knock it off.
Meg’s newest episode of Call Your Coven: Collective Readings 101 — Is this cheating because I’m technically now serving you up something I had a hand in making? MAYBE. But also this episode that Meg put together is prescient and powerful, and I super timely call for discernment when watching online spiritual readings meant for a collective audience. They give great tips and advice for choosing readers you trust, and remind us to not be mindless consumers of information that may or may not have weight in our worlds.
Exploring my Human Design chart — First things first, that link will not take you to my personal chart, but it will take you to MyBodyGraph.com, so you can pull up your own chart! Second, if you’re unfamiliar, Human Design in my own words (so don’t quote me, okay?) is a blending of astrology and the I Ching energy systems, and yes it was channeled by some dude, but it also has really helped me to understand facets of my energetic self. Third, I had the honor and pleasure of having my chart read by a dear friend, and she unlocked a completely new and different aspect of my chart: Even though I type out to be a Manifestor, I don’t actually fit the traditional definition of one, and am instead like a Manifestor x Projector hybrid! Just one example of this radical shift that I’m now exploring in my day-to-day is that Manifestors are meant to employ a strategy of informing folks about their powerful initiations, while Projectors are guided to wait for an invitation to step in and do their work. Talk about a different way of approaching work and the world! But honestly, I have tons of life experiences that support this new information, and I’m excited to learn more! Fellow projectors, hit me up!
Please note this is a random chart I pulled off Google images, which appears to belong to fictional character, Luna Lovegood. So, I’ll take this opportunity to again say, FUCK JKR, FUCK TERFS. Anyway, yay Human Design!Happy Friday! Let me know what you think of this new segment, and if you love any of the things I love! <3

Number Patterns Around Pluto's Shift into Aquarius
Today, Pluto moved into Aquarius, where it will stay for the next nineteen or so years.
I am not an astrologer, just a lover of the sky, so I cannot tell you all of the ins and outs of this transit, or what it may mean for you personally. To be honest, I can barely decipher what the last sixteen years of Pluto in Capricorn has meant for me! (But I can tell you that I’m ready for it to move the fuck on…!)
What I can tell you is that next year, we’re heading into a 9 collective year, the last in a cycle that began in 2017. (I’m already working on my big new year write-up and sheesh! Big stuff!) I can also tell you that Pluto was considered the 9th planet in the solar system before it was demoted to a dwarf planet in 2006, an 8 collective year like the one we’re in now (during it’s final years in Sagittarius, before moving into Capricorn in 2008, the first year of a brand-new global cycle).
Photo by NASA on UnsplashI’m fascinated by the numerological alignment of the 9th planet (Pluto) moving into the 11th sign of the zodiac (Aquarius) during the 11th month of the year (November) leading up to a 9 collective cycle (2025).
Both 9 and 11 are big, impactful numbers. 9 is the last of the building block numbers, ruling endings, culminations, release, knowledge, wisdom, civilization and humanity at large. 11 is the first of the Doubled Digits, and represents a bird’s eye view, idealism, psychic spaces, and imaginative possibilities. Their shadow sides also pack a punch, encompassing martyrdom, scapegoating, authoritarianism, spiritual bypassing and abuse, gaslighting, and restrictive thinking.
Thanks for reading swimming in the soup! This post is public so feel free to share it.
Xenia Viray, who is brilliant and whimsical and deep and wise, sent out a newsletter earlier today that spoke to the Sabian Symbols (a set of 360 phrases of words that correspond with each of the 360 degrees of the wheel of the zodiac, co-created by Marc Edmund Jones, an American astrologer and spiritualist, and the clairvoyant Elsie Wheeler in 1925) of the final degrees of Capricorn and the early degrees of Aquarius.
This is what the Sabian Symbol site has to say about the current astro-weather:
Capricorn 30: DIRECTORS OF A LARGE FIRM MEET IN SECRET CONFERENCE
This Symbol shows meeting with others in order to lay out plans; to have “Secret” meetings of people, people that are often VIP’s in some way or, at least, in charge of decisions or governments or empires. The “Directors” meet, they conference or just conference call, exchange views, ideas, gossip. There may be decisions to be made or plans to be laid out. Do you make all your decisions on your own, or do you need help? You can often call on the relevant knowledgeable friends or authorities, as you’re bound to know them or how to meet them, and you’ll iron out the details. Sometimes, however, you may feel shut out by those “in charge”.
Masterly control. Sharing innermost secrets. Confidential information. Big guys. Calling the shots. Governments and secret spies. Strategies. Having a say. Councils. Doors.
Excluding those affected by decisions. Exploiting people or situations. Being kept in the dark. Gossip. Loose lips. Refusal of entry. The glamour of big business.1
WOOF.
If you’ve been reading SITS since the beginning (hi, hello, thank you, I love you!), then you may remember our group read of DUNE by Frank Hebert through the lens of capitalism, colonialism, and climate crises. Besides being on the bedside table of every nerd (affectionate) I hooked up with in my twenties, DUNE has seen a resurgence in the last few years thanks to Denis Villeneuve’s stunning pair of films based on the book, starring Timothée Chalamet as the young Paul Atreides.
The poster for DUNE: Prophecy from HBO.Yesterday, I watched the pilot episode of the new series DUNE: Prophecy on HBO, and was immediately stunned by the opening text, which read: “Victory is celebrated in the light, but it is won in the darkness.” Now, if that’s not resonant of the shift from the final degree of Capricorn into 0 degrees Aquarius and its secret business meeting, I don’t know what is.
Even more resonant is what follows, as the series sets the stage for its story by echoing what DUNE told us in the mid-60’s: Everything takes place after the human beings won the war against the thinking machines they had created, but by which they ended up enslaved. It doesn’t take a genius to realize we’re currently living in the beginnings of that proposed timeline, especially with Pluto’s move into the progressive air sign of Aquarius.
A year ago, science fiction author Charles Stross wrote an article for Scientific American titled, “Tech Billionaires Need to Stop Trying to Make the Science Fiction They Grew Up on Real,” in which he details how modern technological advancements, and the people who propel their creation, are pushing us towards making speculative fiction a reality rather than learning from it.
It’s a worryingly accurate summary of the situation in Silicon Valley right now: the billionaires behind the steering wheel have mistaken cautionary tales and entertainments for a road map, and we’re trapped in the passenger seat. Let’s hope there isn’t a cliff in front of us.2
Tweet from @AlexBlechman that reads, “Sci-Fi Author: In my book I invented the Torment Nexus as a cautionary tale / Tech Company: At long last, we have created the Torment Nexus from the classic sci-fi novel Don’t Create the Torment Nexus”I don’t know what the next twenty years will hold for us as a species, or how close to DUNE, or other science fiction plots we’ll get. I don’t even know what the next four years in the United States will look like, now that it’s completed its Pluto return. But to tie this back to Pluto traversing Capricorn’s final degrees, I would argue that the secrecy of the business meetings has already slipped. Just look at tech billionaire Elon Musk’s financial and physical backing of Donald Trump, complete with a MAGA hat in Nazi font.
I fear we may already be at the edge of the cliff.
An interesting observation to ponder…
But before DUNE was published as a whole, it was serialized between 1963-1965, the first 3 years in a collective cycle that ran from 1963 to 1971. Last week, my mother texted me with an interesting insight: Our current times seem to be mirroring that of the 60s and 70s in terms of massive social, cultural, gender, military, racial, economic, religious conflicts, and shifts all at once, everywhere. She cited the assassination of JFK on the Doubled Digit-heavy date of 11-22-1963 (which has a spiritually-attuned core number of 7), as the event that kicked off the 60’s, which is absolutely aligned numerologically, seeing as 1963 was a 1 year—the same one (1) that saw the first chapters of DUNE hit the market.
Would love to know what you make of this parallel! I’ll definitely be exploring it more.
As to not leave us on such a sour, cynical note, let’s look ahead to the Aquarian energy that will help to transform the world over the next couple of decades.
Again, according to the Sabian Symbols:
Aquarius 1: AN OLD ADOBE MISSION IN CALIFORNIA
[Xenia included a note, which I co-sign and have added to: I acknowledge missionary work is problematic. The mission system in California perpetrated incredible violence to the Indigenous folks forced to build them, and continue to be monuments to religious colonization.]
This Symbol shows a safe and comfortable place to live, work, pray and practice our spiritual lives. The “Old Adobe Missions” were built with a great deal of effort, sacrifice, commitment, and a sense of community with one eye on the path and the other on the very real everyday needs of the people it serves. Sometimes we assume our beliefs are right and that others need to be shown the truth. Efforts should be turned to creating infrastructures to pursue these beliefs. Relating is not about control, but acceptance and reverence of each person’s divinity. There should be no pretensions, but a forging of links to new worlds.
Withdrawing. Spiritual retreat. Natural surroundings. Creating civilizations out of natural elements. Finding places to work with spirit. Sanctuaries and learning. Houses. Centers.
Dogmatism. Pushing one’s beliefs and ideas. Having ‘all the answers’. Moving in. Taking over. Monuments to the past. Cults. Indoctrination. [Indigenous wisdom.]
I see a lot of current themes at play in this symbol, and think the purpose of the missions juxtaposed with the reality of their history is also quite potent as we move forward in our present-tense timeline. It all seems pretty on the nose for the numbers 9 and 11, too, which are our stewards today, and for the next year as we wrap up our current collective cycle.
I’ll be sharing more about the upcoming 9 year of 2025 towards the end of the year, as well as offering a few options for personalized year ahead readings. Thank you for voting in the poll! The results were very helpful in determining what and how to be of service, and I can’t wait to share with you what I’m whipping up. There’s also a very exciting collaboration in the works!
In the meantime, make sure you’re signed up for the virtual launch party for my newest book baby, Marriage by the Numbers: Planning Your Wedding Using Numerology, on December 3 at 2PM PT / 5PM ET, where I’ll be doing a live reading and analyzing a few dates for attendees!

Marriage by the Numbers: Planning Your Wedding Using Numerology
What’s up, swimmers?! First and foremost, I am sending you all of the love, comfort and protection I can muster. I hope that you are taking good care, practicing gentleness with yourself and others, and finding moments of of calm amidst the noise.
Deciding to stay off social media this week has been an interesting choice, one that, in a positive sense, has allowed my body to stay out of panic mode as much as is possible. But it also added to the incredibly chilling sense of stunned silence that permeated much of Tuesday night and Wednesday.
In the days that have followed, it’s been heartening to speak and connect with people in other spaces. To pick up the phone and call my friends. To receive “checking in” texts from beloveds. To watch silly movies and laugh in the group chat. To read threads of vent sessions and reading lists and action items in discords full of wise and wonderful folks. To hear what people are working on, planning, making, looking forward to in the future. To read stories of queer joy, love and resilience. To gather together online to vision and write in Landscapes. To scroll through Substack and feel held, activated and inspired.
This is how we will get through. This is how we will survive. Together.
The word community gets thrown around so much these days it’s lost some of its meaning, but it is still available in many forms, and necessary—always, but especially in the coming year(s). Right here, right now, I sincerely hope you’re finding ways to feel connected, rooted, and supported. I’m always here for you. If you need someone, don’t hesitate to reach out.
And, in the name of joy, continuance, celebration and resistance, I am hoping to share some good news with you!

Weigh in on Year Ahead Offerings… 📆2025, a collective 9 year in numerology, has some really fascinating features on its own, but will be even juicier when combined with personally yearly cycle numbers. I’m absolutely whipping up some new offerings, but curious if you have a preference between:
Call Your Coven is new — All About “Angel” Numbers 👼Today, I take to the mic to talk about a hot topic in spiritual circles—repeating numbers, or as some call them, angel numbers! Listen in to find out what repeating numbers represent in numerology, how we can receive messages from them, and what the history of repeating numbers can offer us about their present, their future, and their uses as a tool for personal meaning-making? Plus, I address the infamous, confusing and ironic Doreen Virtue problem…

November 2024: What Would Your Favorite Self Do?
What’s up, swimmers?! Blessed Samhain! Happy Witch’s New Year, All Soul’s Day, Day of the Dead, New Moon in Scorpio! ALSO WHERE DID OCTOBER GO?
I will not lie: October was not very kind to me. While on a self-and-Spirit-enforced creative timeout to address a deep bout of product-oriented paralysis, I suffered a back injury, received upsetting health news that’s led to a whole bunch of lifestyle and dietary changes, reckoned with the realities of my personal debt and depression, and caught an ill-timed cold that kept me from attending some incredibly important family events. Plus, I found myself rooting for the Dodgers in the World Series when I’m a lifelong San Francisco Giants fan!
All in all, I’d rate it about a 4/10, and that feels generous.
The real kicker is that I’m not alone in these experiences. It seems like we’re personally and collectively in the lower points of the wheel’s great cycle. The news is full of anger, violence, and vitriol. Everyone I know is struggling to make ends meet. My inbox is teeming with newsletters about burnout, fear, rage, hopelessness, and grief. We’re not even halfway through Scorpio season, and yet, Death is all around us and Hope seems hard to practice, let alone find in the wild.
So if this letter is finding you at the bottom of your own pit, or staring back at your own lifeless eyes in the mirror, there’s not a whole lot that I can say other than I’m with you. I’m praying this is temporary. I’m squeezing you through the screen, and hoping we all find comfort, ease, and swift ways to get our needs met.
And I hope that I can shine some loving light on the month ahead…

ICYMI 🚨Last month on SITS, we heard from about her new book Tarot for Creativity, playful exploration, challenging the ego, and the business of art, and Jennifer Banash about her new book The Essential Elizabeth Stone, evolving as an artist, the joys of being edited, and not reading your reviews.
Then over on Call Your Coven, we had a full month of episodes, including a monthly forecast, individual episodes on the numerology of Samhain, a primer on eclipses, and how to build a personal tarot practice. Then, and I offered a breakdown of the numerology and astrology of Election Day 2024, and the two major party candidates—no predictions, just vibes and practical self-care/survival tips!
Also for those who are ready to welcome November, our new forecast is also out now on all podcast platforms and YouTube! If you like what you hear, please send it to a witchy bestie! 🖤
NOVEMBER 2024: WWYFSD?In this month’s Call Your Coven forecast, I share about the number 11, which rules November, and how we can work with its lofty energy in our every day lives. Eleven, which invokes romanticism and idealism, The Big Picture, and a bird’s eye view, can offer us an amazing look at the lay of the land. Then, from there, with clarity and perspective, the hope is we can begin to close the gap between where we are now, and where we want to go.
There’s a classic, Christian question that asks: WWJD? What Would Jesus Do? As a kid, I wore the acronym on a purple bracelet—way before bright yellow Livestrong bands were a thing—as a daily reminder to check in with Christ before taking action, and to attempt to make the decision I thought he would make.
Now, if that works for you, I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with trying to make just, loving and fair decisions! But if you’re looking for an update, perhaps November can offer you: WWYFSD? What Would Your Favorite Self Do?
Your Favorite Self, which is my way of invoking similar, but less imposing or inaccessible ideas of a higher or better self, can feel far away, but can also be really fun to get to know! If you weren’t cranky, if you didn’t feel strapped for time/money/energy/fill in your own blank, what would you want to do? How would you want to handle things? What choices would you make? What options would be back on the table? What allowances would you give? What grace?
November is asking us to practice checking in with our favorite selves, and to attempt to step into their shoes in big and small ways. When you find yourself at a crossroads or needing to make a decision this month, identify what your favorite self would do and then, if possible, do that! It’s the easiest, most practical way of closing the gap between the self you are now, and the update you’re seeking.
I’m also trying to take my own advice...
When I checked in with my favorite self, the first thing she wanted was to take a social media break, something I haven’t done since before the pandemic! That’s four+ years of being plugged in and chronically online. Of course, my current version of self had other opinions about the perceived privilege of looking away from a volatile time in history, turning my back on a marketing tool under capitalism, and fears of feeling disconnected from friends and colleagues. But ultimately, my favorite self saw through all of those narratives, and stayed rooted in her truth—until I can shut out the noise, and/or can resist the temptation to waste time doom-scrolling, I won’t find the creative joy and flow I want.

Take a long, loving look in the mirror. Compliment yourself. No seriously, compliment yourself, at least twice. Touch in with your goals, but try not to spend too much time judging your progress. Practice self-forgiveness. Set intentions. Identify new, emerging, and changing desires. Play with your purpose. Seek pleasure. Take yourself out on a date. Define what love and connection means to you. Make a list of things that bring you joy. Do one or two of the things on the list. Consider the whole of the month ahead. Light a candle. Give thanks.

1+1+1+1+2+0+2+4 = 12/3
Consider these questions: What makes your feel held? What makes you feel brave? What makes you feel confident or capable? What makes you feel like you can take up space? Daydream. Make a wish. Make art. Express yourself. Wear your best outfit. Check in with your favorite self and see how you can access that self right then and now. Do what you can. Don’t get too bogged down in what’s not possible. Trust the timing. Sing a song you love. Play an instrument. Let yourself try something new, even if you might be bad at it. Say a prayer.

Plan a ritual that centers celebration and fecundity. Go down a spiritual rabbit hole. Moon-bathe. Buy yourself flowers and display them in a prominent or personal place. Make a list of your current life questions. Release the need to have all of the answers. Take a bath. Honor what’s currently disappointing to you. Grieve safely. Release self-judgement and shame. Make a cup of tea for your demons and hear them out. Thank them for their insights. Drink more water than you want to or think you can. Paint your nails. Do something nice for yourself. Do something nice for someone else. Mind your business.
