Writing Update August 2023

Hey, everyone! Happy August. Things at work are about to get pretty busy for me so I thought I’d sneak in a writing update while I’ve got the time.

I’ve given little updates throughout the year as to how my writing has been going but I figured it might be a good idea to dedicate a full blog post to it. At times I feel like I’m juggling way too many projects because so many are in different stages of development. But it’s all fun for me in the end. So, let me break down for you all the things ...

Things I Liked In July 2023

I hope you’re keeping cool if it’s summer where you are. It’s been a hot one, that’s for sure. I actually just had some time off work this past week and it was really relaxing. I did a few nature walks, which ended up being really buggy and gross but I’m glad I did them. In a couple weeks things will start to get crazy at work again, so I’m just going to enjoy the slower life while I can.

In the next month or so, I hope I can start talking more concretely about a release for the third and fin...

Things I Liked In June 2023

I don’t know about where you are, but where I am it’s been a very, very rainy June. I read that something like 55% of the time it was overcast and/or rainy, so hardly a good summer month! Not that I have any immediate plans to do anything super summery, but still. It would be nice to do something outside! (I say that but realistically I’d be holed up in my home no matter what but it’s fun to pretend.)

Anyway, in terms of writing, I should be getting the draft cover for the final book in my “F...

Things I Liked In May 2023

It’s almost June and I finally feel like a human again. I mentioned last month that May was going to be nuts for me because of Commencement planning, and it really was nuts for me. Of course, it was an outside ceremony and it rained, which didn’t help to make me feel better about things! But it’s all over and done now. Things typically slow down in summer for me (just a tad) so I’ll be looking forward to relaxing a little bit more and hopefully going on a trip or two.

As for writing, things h...

Things I Liked In April 2023

April really flew by, didn’t it? Working in higher ed, we’re gearing up for Commencement in a couple of weeks so my days have been long and stressful and I hate it. I’ll feel a lot better about things after the next three weeks are over. I think I’ll be due for a nice, long vacation once June rolls around. I’ve been itching to visit England for ages but I’ve never gotten around to it. Maybe now’s the time to get that trip booked! It would definitely give me something to look forward to this summ...

An Update on Querying

I wrote before about how I was querying the first novel in a new series. I wasn’t really sure what to expect because it’s kind of a tough process, but I’ve been surprised this time around.

That’s not to say that I think I’m going to land an agent or that the whole process isn’t absolutely frustrating, though!

What’s Been Going On?

Well, first of all, I still haven’t queried a ton of agents. As I mentioned in my previous post on querying, I’m finding a lot of agents that I want to query ...

Things I Liked In March 2023

A little writing update before I get into my favorite shows, books, and music for the month. First, thank you to everyone who has voted so far in the poll to help me title “Forgotten Monsters #3!” For a while, it was a three-way tie, but there is a leader now. If you haven’t had the chance to vote yet, you have about another week to do so. I appreciate it so much.

As for actual writing, I’m still chugging along at the third book in my next series. I’m at about the halfway point so I should ha...

Help Me Name My Next Book!

Almost a month ago I said that “in the next week or so” I’d set up a poll to help me choose my next book. Well, it’s finally “in a week or so!”

Later this year I’ll be releasing the final book in my “Forgotten Monsters” trilogy and I’m having a pretty tough time choosing a title. So, that’s where you come in.  I know it might be a little weird choosing one when you don’t know what the story is about yet, but I tried choosing options that fit the story best. What sounds the coolest? What catc...

Things I Liked In February 2023

February ended up being a fairly productive month for me, which is exciting for a lazy person like myself. A few weeks ago, I reached out to my cover designer so I should have a cover for my next book in early summer. I’m way behind on finalizing a blurb for “Forgotten Monsters #3.” If you noticed, I also don’t have a title for it yet. I don’t know why, but I’ve found it very hard to come up with titles lately. So, I’m going to be setting up a poll in the next week or so to see what people think...

Things I Liked In January 2023

January was a pretty good, but pretty busy month for me. Earlier in the month, I flew to Orlando, Florida with my family because my youngest brother was running the Disney Marathon. I’d never been to a marathon before but it was a lot of fun. Plus, it was great to cheer on my brother!

Disney was a good time too, but it’s always so crowded! I hardly got to go on any rides because the wait times were so long. Tower of Terror was 130 minutes! Maybe next time…

But it was all a good time. My ni...
