3/22/22 Snippet, THE DECALOGUE KILLER.

So I wrote some stories. I didn’t call Walters the False Witness, but the moniker stuck anyway. They say the papers tell readers what to think, but it works the other way, too. The public figured a lawyer had to be the liar in this little blood-soaked play, so that’s what everybody else ended up writing.

Me, I was working on other stuff. Gloria might’ve put me on the murder beat, but it wasn’t where I did my best work. So I didn’t even try. Instead I went around and interviewed people about all the other victims, starting with the first guy and working my way down. There was a lot of what you’d call human interest stories, and at first I was getting them spiked pretty regularly.

But pretty soon it all started working out. See, the problem with chasing stories about the latest murder’s is, there’s a limit to how much you can write about it before you’re just writing the same thing. People want to hear about the blood in the alley and the mystery and the terror, sure — but they also want a story. Stories I can do, no problem. I just wished the cops would find the Decalogue Killer before I had to write any more about him.

So I went from two cups of coffee a day…

…to one cup regular, one cup decaf. My wife needs to cut back her own intake, so I decided to cut back myself to see if switching to decaf was an achievable goal. Besides, I figured: how much difference would that make? Well, for starters it seems to have given me a permanent -3 to my saving throws vs. nap. Intellectually, I knew I was sleep deprived. But the lower caffeine level is just making my body go Nope. Time for bed, friend.

The heck of it is, I might keep up with this anyway. I very possibly just need to… sleep more? Maybe it’d be good for me, and stuff?

God, it feels awful just to type that out.

The Oscars Honest Trailers.

I’m shocked. I saw one of these (Dune, obviously)! And now that I’ve watched this Oscars Honest Trailers, I don’t have to bother with the other ones..

Tweet of the Day, If It Weren’t For The Honor I’d Rather Have Walked edition.

Dear Lord. …Which is what I would have been saying throughout all of this, interspersed with frantic profanity.

I had to throw the music on it. pic.twitter.com/PDskEk159P

Meyer explained over bad precinct coffee. “You hit the nail on the head, and you weren’t even trying. The only way we know for sure somebody’s a victim of the Killer is the damned feather. Otherwise?” She scowled at her coffee like it knew what it had done. “Could just be some hopped-up degenerate or thrill-killer.”

“So the Killer’s picking at random?” I spooned more sugar into my cup, which didn’t help. “Just picking anybody off the street? You sure you want me putting that in the papers? Because that’ll start a panic like nobody’s business.”

“Nah, it’s not that bad, Joe. So far, the victims do all have one thing in common: they’ve all been total bastards. Like Khan, there? Married three times, wrecked five other people’s marriages that we know of. Including the coroner’s brother’s, which is why he was whistling as he worked. I guess that in that job, you get through the day by looking forward to seeing somebody you don’t like on the slab.”

New Witcher Game being made.

Missed this, somehow:

CDPR confirms that a new Witcher game is in development

It'll use UE5 instead of REDenginehttps://t.co/A9eHvU2dMS pic.twitter.com/BFoPPzvTa6

— Nibel (@Nibellion) March 21, 2022

Executive summary of the article:

Working with Epic Games (later reported that it won’t be Epic-exclusive);Will use Unreal Engine 5;CYBERPUNK 2077 expansion still will use REDengine; No further details.

A new Witcher game would be nice, although first we’ll need to slog through all the inevitable ‘CDPR sucks now! I’ll never forgive them for Cyberpunk!’ whines that some people who are not my regular readers seem inclined to make. Well, I guess that’s just the nature of the beast. Anyway, personally I’d just like a lowish-stakes Witcher game. Nothing but monsters and alchemy, really. I liked all the folklore the most in the original game.
