Glastonbury Christmas Windows 2020
Its the first of Glastonburys late night Christmas shopping nights, there is another tomorrow (Saturday 12th), then next Friday 18th and Saturday 19th, many of the shops will be open until 7pm. It may have been a very strange year indeed, but the town has still pulled out all the stops to bring some seasonal cheer with beautifully dressed windows. Heres a selection, to see the rest you will just have to come and visit!

Visiting Glastonbury in December 2020
Keep Calm, Stay Alert and Come Shopping!
The news we have been waiting for has now come in. Glastonbury, being in the Mendip region, is in Tier 2 of the Covid restrictions, which is ‘High Alert’. What does this mean for visitors to the Town and locals who are looking forward to getting out a bit? I’ve thoroughly examined the ‘rules’ as they stand (on 29th November) and bring you my interpretation of what that is likely to mean for Glastonbury. It’s not a comprehensive guide to everything tha...

Gifts from Glastonbury for Yule 2020
Put a little bit of Glastonbury in their stockings!
This year more than ever Glastonbury’s creative people need your support. So, for 2020’s Solstice and Christmas gift guide I have focused on gifts you can buy mail order direct from Glastonbury based creators. Click on the images to be taken through to the seller’s website. You’ll find specific gift suggestions to start off with, then a list of Glastonbury shops who are trading online – I’ve used the photos I took as the High Street emerged...

An Interview With Me
Normal for Glastonbury blogger Vicki Steward interviewed by writer and journalist Guy Kennaway
Vicki StewardGlastonbury’s Oracle magazine offered me space to promote my book in their September issue, the obvious way to do this was an interview. More accustomed to doing the interviewing myself, I asked my great friend Pilton based writer and journalist Guy Kennaway, to interview me instead, sweetening the deal with the offer of homemade sourdough pizza. He kindly obliged:
“Many people ...

Dod Lane B&B, Glastonbury
There’s Glastonbury history and archaeology, even some ghosts, in this post, it’s not only about Glastonbury’s newest visitor accommodation.

I’m excited to tell you that I am managing One Dod lane, a brand new and beautiful Bed and Breakfast in Glastonbury, which has come about as the result of a creative collaboration with the Town’s newly opened Heart of the Tribe Art Gallery. We are looking forward to welcoming you to come and stay in this stylish modern bungalow, in a prime location ...

Dod Lane to the Tor Tree Walk by Matt Witt
There’s a beautiful country walk from Dod Lane, just a couple of minutes from the top of Glastonbury High Street to the Tor and back. It takes in Bushy Coombe (the site of the May Pole celebration on the first of May each year), the White Spring, Chalice Well, the Rifleman’s Arms and the Rural Life Museum. Assuming you don’t stop (which would be a bit silly!) the whole walk would take about 40 minutes, but if you take in all the attractions it could keep you happily entertained for the best par...

Should You Visit Glastonbury Post Lockdown?
It’s hard to know what to do right now. After three months (or more) of being confined to our homes most of us are desperate for a change of scene, but foreign holidays are risky and some areas of the country are so overwhelmed with visitors that they aren’t being that welcoming. I thought I’d write a post for those of you are thinking of coming to Glastonbury, illustrated with some more of my series of portraits of Glastonbury shopkeepers.

Glastonbury Shops & Shopkeepers
Here’s the latest in my series of posts featuring Glastonbury shops and shopkeepers (see the bottom of the page for links to the others). These posts were great fun to put together. Not only did I actually get to chat to people for the first time in ages, but it also presented an excellent opportunity to photograph Glastonbury’s shopkeepers in situ, many of whom have spent lockdown renovating their shops ready for visitors. Visitors will be reassured to hear that there is a lovely atmosphere in...

Normal In Glastonbury
No Normal Shops in Glastonbury?
The Washing Well Launderette at 73 High Street. There’s something about these three lovely ladies that makes me smile. It’s often said that there are ‘no normal shops in Glastonbury’. It’s true that you can’t buy white goods, there’s no ‘High Street’ chains and if you need something practical, like trainers or a rucksack, you are best heading to the temple of shiny newness that is Clarks Village in Street, a whole two miles away. However, we do have many of...

No Glastonbury Festival 2020
Online festivals? Virtually pointless, says this Glastonbury veteran
I should have been on the Glastonbury Festival site for two weeks now, setting up for the event’s 50th year. Instead I’m stuck at home in Glastonbury Town, the whole UK festival season having been put on hold for 2020 during the Corona Virus health crisis.
I keep hearing that this is the ‘New Normal’ that we’re going to have to adapt to living under lockdown, that mass gatherings will regrettably have to be consigned to...
