Sam Kench is an author, screenwriter, and filmmaker based in Los Angeles.

A lover of all forms of art and storytelling, it was the world of cinema that first drew Kench to writing. He writes in all genres with a particular affinity for the dark and twisted and a penchant for stories that change throughout and keep readers guessing.

Outside of storytelling, Kench is an avid poker player and has worked as a professional film critic since he was 15. In 2014, Kench was named one of the most important defenders of free speech by the National Coalition Against Censorship.

In 2022, Kench was included in the top four screenwriters under the age of 25 as chosen by the Black List and the Writer's Guild for the Michael Collyer Fellowship.

I have two novel projects that I am actively working on. One is about 25% finished with the first draft, the other is closer to 50%. I'll share more details about those when they are nearing completion.(less)

I sometimes get stuck at a particular point in a story but with enough caffeine and enough time spent staring at my laptop, I can usually power through that blockage. Sometimes it becomes clear that an idea needs a bit more time to gestate, but when that happens, I jump right into another project to remain productive.(less)

"The further into the book I got, the faster I turned the pages as the story went far beyond my expectations. Southern horror like you've never read before. "

"I've not read a better comic created during this millennium than Seth's Wimbledon Green, excepting only Chris Ware's brilliant (and far more challenging) first Rusty Brown collection.

I adore Chris Ware's Building Stories & Rusty Brown, Identity Crisi" Read more of this review »

Best book I've read since running out of Zahler joints. It's fascinating to read a uniquely Native American perspective on horror. Stephen Graham Jones writes with a conversational sort of present-tense prose that I found extremely engaging. The stor ...more

I was told this is where the Harry Hole series gets great. While there is certainly a notable improvement from the previous two books, it is not a vast enough improvement to really win me over. I think this series, and Nesbø's style, might not be for ...more
