Bout of Books 29 - Day 2

Tuesday was another quiet day, getting only through 1 audiobook during the day and starting and audiobook and ebook at night. Not off to the start I wanted, but it is what it is. Since I have my own deadline of getting my book posted on Friday, I don't know how the rest of the week will be. At least I can read a lot on Saturday when it's in review at Amazon.

Monday was quiet since my Hubby was home and we spent some of the day together. I didn't keep track of my time but I didn't read long, finishing just two books and reading parts of two others.

Negative Exposure closing in on final edits

I know I haven't posted any and though I said I was going to slow down because hardly anyone comes here (though I'm grateful for those of you who do), I didn't mean to slow down this much. But life got crazy on June 1st when I found an abandoned 5-ish week old cat.

We've lived in the same place for going on 8 years now and for about 6 or more of those there's been an outdoor cat we call Mama who has hung around under the house, having litters of kitties and we feed them as outdoor cats. There's four hanging around now, three from two of her litters and one that's not hers that just attached herself to Mama one day. So we knew Mama got pregnant again and she disappeared as she always does for a while.

Then the end of May I kept hearing a kitten crying - different times of the day but it was under the house, so couldn't see what was going on. Then on June 1st, she ventured out behind the house, fussing up a storm. We think something happened to Mama because in all these years she never abandoned any litters and the little kitty was healthy otherwise. I was able to grab her, though she was scared of me at first, she was more wanting/needing help I think.

So we brought her (Echo - from the Overwatch character) in then and she's been a handful but she adapted SO well. It only took 3-4 days for her to not be scared anymore and now she's running all over the house like she owns the place. She's VERY affectionate and loves attention.

On the Book 2 front, that means things have gone a bit slower than I'd hoped, but I'm closing in on finishing final edits. I have one more chapter to edit, 2 to write and 2 to re-write and my 2nd draft will be finished. The first part is in the hands of betas and I hope to get some more betas soon (if you're interested, email me).

I'm still around, still writing, and now with a new cat usually laying on me as I do so. But she's so damn cute, don't ya think? :)

Behind the Writer #4: Fillers

Who else has a filler issue when writing? If you don't, what do you find are your difficult spots when writing?

When I first started writing a little over a year ago - I wrote in passive - not knowing better. As I wrote, I was learning so my first re-writes of book 1 was getting rid of my passive voice. After I got rid of that, I discovered that I was using starting -ing sentences, so another re-write, getting rid of those. As I learned I did more edits until I was finally satisfied with Book 1.

For me, I'm still bad with fillers - and now that I'm better at writing overall, fillers still are the last thing I'm using. I can't seem to write without them, though I do have much less (thankfully). My big filler words I use too much are -

Since I'm talking to myself, I'm probably going to stop doing these daily blog posts at the end of the month. I thought they'd help with exposure but so far, that hasn't happened. Disney Tips, Tidbits & Trivia #5: Park Tips

What is Disney Tips, Trivia & Tidbits? Whatever I, and you, want it to be. What have YOU always wanted to know about Disney? I'm most familiar with WDW, but I have been to Disneyland and California Adventures, although it's been many years. We visited 4 or 5 times.

So, my Disney days will just be any bit of information that pops into my head, and if any of you want to hit me up on Twitter, email, or leave a comment here, I'll be glad to answer questions.

Visiting the parks is CRAZY (well, when they are open of course). Here's a few basic tips to best utilize your time when visiting.

1 - Plan your trip during slow times. Yes, this would mean missed school or whatever, but that's preferable when you're looking at 20 minute lines, or less, versus 2+ hour lines. The slow times are - 2 weeks after New Years until about Mid-March, right before Spring Breaks start and 2 weeks after Labor Day until mid-October when Halloween events really start ramping up.

2 - If you're staying on-property (a Disney hotel), take advantage of your early openings BUT then leave that park when it's opened up to the rest of the guests, and go to a park that didn't have early opening. Early Opening parks are always the busiest, so you wanna take advantage of it, then move on.

3 - If you're staying off-property, watch where you are staying - look it up on a map. Many Kissimmee hotels will claim to be right outside the gates - and it's definitely not true. Depending on where you end up, and time of year, it could take you nearly an hour to get to the parks. If you're looking at 192 (Irlo Bronson Memorial) you want to stay WEST of I-4. If you're out east - you're way too far and it could take ages to get there. If you are looking at Hwy 27, you've got some good options going so back ways, so you are good at about a 3-5 mile radius north and south of 192.
