But it's back to my books for me.  I'm so behind where I had wanted to be, and while I'm satisfied with my Summer/Winter giveaway at Smashwords, I'd like to have another book out there.  Here's hoping I get into a groove and soon. I'd LIKE (cross fingers) Book 3 to be done before Nov NaNo so I can do a new project, but we'll see. I never push myself.

In my Bijou Basin series, two themes weave throughout all the books - Photography, and Theme Parks. I thought I'd take the time to talk about these themes and my personal experience with both.

While many writers research much of what they write, many more "write what you know". The later one is true of me - I've written what I know and have experience in both photography and theme parks. See my previous newsletter - - for my experience with Photography.

Theme Parks (specifically in Central Florida)

I wasn't born in FL, but moved there in my early teens. From the first year there, we had Annual Passholder Tickets to Disney.

It's hard to explain, to anyone not around the theme park industry, what the life is like. It's not typical. When I was in my pre-teens and lived elsewhere, it was a big deal to go to the mall to hang out with friends. Like a big big deal - the mall was an hour away. It was a treat.

Then I moved to FL, and WDW was my backyard.

With annual tickets, we could go daily, and while we didn't always do that, we went, a LOT. Have you ever gone to a WDW park and they had the greeters in the front, ask how many times you've visited?  By the time the 2000s rolled around, I just told them to put 999 - the highest number they could.  I never counted, of course, but I had annual passes, and/or worked there / had a spouse working there for 16+ years.  It was only in the last few years we lived there, that we didn't have the funds to go to Disney anymore, and while we're no longer in FL, the theme parks are the only thing about the state that we miss.

In addition to annual passes, I also often got to visit Sea World and Universal Orlando.  I briefly worked for all three companies as well, in attractions, which I loved. Each of the parks were different as an employee/cast member and I could share loads of stories, but I'll spare you the details.

I love and miss the parks, but I'm able to reexperience them within my books.  If you haven't read them, in Book 1, Natural Exposure, Kenzie and Jarrett take Ripley to Hollywood Studios. For Book 2, Negative Exposure, Kenzie takes Ripley to the Magic Kingdom. In the upcoming Book 3, Elemental Exposure, Kenzie, Jarrett, and Ripley visit Universal for a very special event.  Where would you want to see them head in Book 4, if the choices were Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Sea World, or Islands of Adventure?

It's time for Dewey's! This is my 19th (I think), so I'm gonna be a little lazy and reuse some of these answers and this opening statement as well. Ha!

Same thing applies that I said in October. Behind on reading because I write now. I have two novels published along with two novelettes. In the same series, I have 2 more novels in the works and one more novelette, plus I have a couple things outside those / that genre that I'm working on. I started off writing erotic romance, and you can see my books listed below.
I've been doing Dewey's a long time. Used to post on my other blog - Karsyn's Kickass Jocoserious Kooky Jannock Book Blog but have been here the past few Dewey's since this one is, slightly, more active.

HI! I'm Karsyn (some of you who have been around a while will know me as Karsyn @ KaKiJoKoJa - my book review blog), over 40 (though much much younger in spirit), deeply in love with and married to my high school best friend. I LOVE to read, obviously, and am blessed with a ton of time to read. In a typical month I will read 15-20 books, often more, and when there's something going on, like Dewey's, I read a ton more! Since I started writing, my reading has suffered and I'm behind on the challenge for the year, but I'm enjoying writing. Beyond my books, I'm a gamer, and I built my own Gaming PC, 6 years ago, which I named Widget (after The Night Circus character). Widget is GREAT and we've had so much fun playing games on him! Lately we've been playing Warzone together obsessively. Anyone else? We just have fun in Plunder, aren't really good enough for BR.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
This is my 19th Dewey's so I'll do what I've been doing. :)

“But if you aren’t worried, I don’t want to… I mean—”

“Spit it out, Ripley,” I say.

“You’ll growl at me again.”

Jarrett and I laugh; she’s so adorable.

“This is a growl-free zone until you feel better, all right?”

She laughs, and I’m glad. The spooked expression isn’t as prevalent in her eyes and she’s relaxed back into me, glancing between me and Jarrett.

“I don’t want to be a burden — the nervous northerner scared of wind. You both don’t even appear worried or fazed.”

“You aren’t, and never will be, a burden,” Jarrett says.

“And we’ll be concerned,” I continue, “but not until it’s on top of us. Until then, if that happens, it could veer off at any moment and go elsewhere. We don’t worry over situations out of our control.”

“I noticed that. You two are the most laid back people I’ve ever met.” 

I shrug. “Worrying accomplishes diddly squat. The storm will come through the state, or it won’t. Everything will be fine, or there will be damage. Fretting over it doesn’t change the outcome, so what’s the point? If we can’t control it, then we don’t stress over it.”

“I suppose I’m more terrified than anxious. Does anything scare you?”

She’s still acquainting herself with her new town when an advertisement for a boudoir photographer catches her eye. On a whim, Ripley books a session, hoping it can help her reclaim her identity.

For those of you who are new - I hadn't realized how OLD my welcoming email was - it was quite some time ago, and things have changed, including me taking a short story off Wattpad - it wasn't the place for me. Apologies if you went there, in search for it. Stay tuned to the newsletters, as I'll be giving that story some love and putting it on StoryOrigin by next month so it's available for free to those who want to read it.

I did update the welcoming email, as so much more has changed than what it had - it was old!  Here's the current status for me and my books: Natural Exposure - Book 1 of the Bijou Basin series, and the center around which all other books will revolve. A Bijou Basin - Book 0.5 of the Bijou Basin series. This is set just weeks prior to the events of NaEx. It was my first foray into 3rd person and it didn't go well, so for now, it's been removed from Wattpad, and will soon be up on Story Origin as a free Reader Magnet. A Discovery of BDSM - Book 1 of the Bijou Basin Book Bites - a series of short stories to novelettes surrounding the characters of BB. The first one is set 21 years prior to the events of NaEx (will be a free Reader Magnet on SO after 3/5/21). Negative Exposure - Book 2 of the Bijou Basin series An Exploration of BDSM - Book 2 of the Bijou Basin Book Bites. The second one is set 19 years prior to the events of NaEx. Elemental Exposure - Currently editing Book 3 of the Bijou Basin series An Erotic Writer's Planner - a 2021 planner for writers with a NSFW erotic theme.In addition to everything Bijou Basin, I have written a partial first draft of a mystery, but that will have to be on another pen name. That news will come down the road, as my focus is on completing Elemental Exposure at this time.

“How about Friday the fourth? A good anniversary celebration?”

“What anniversary?” Ripley asks.

“Felicity met Donovan fifteen years ago on the third.”

My friend shakes her head in response. “That’s not what I meant, and you know it.”

“So, what do you mean?” Ripley questions, glancing between us.

I turn and smile at her. “It’s our fifteenth wedding anniversary.”

“Wow. How come I didn’t know that? And do you celebrate anniversaries when you don’t do birthdays?”

“Meh, it depends. It is the only thing that means anything to us, so this lot,” I indicate the ladies, “typically do something because I sorta brought the group together.”

“Sorta?” Felicity snorts. “No sorta about it.” The others nod, while Ripley looks baffled.

“I’ve wondered about that. I mean… There are a few things I gathered about how some of you met, but not the complete picture of how it came to be so many people and such a close nit group of friends.” She waves her hand, incorporating the others in different parts of the studio.

“Sit back then, sugar. I’ve got a story for you.”

I laugh and shake my head at Felicity. “Here we go,” I mumble, with a grin, before settling back into my seat. With Felicity telling the story, none of the rest of us will get to say anything. That's all for me for now.

For us, it was fine for most of it, but near the end our dog was having issues (she's better), so it got a little crazy for us, plus NaNo in November, and that just led to a quiet end of the year.

The Erotic Writer's Planner

The Erotic Writer's Planner - Available now!

If you know anything about me, and my writing, then you know I'm NOT and I'll repeat most definitely NOT a Planner. I'm a Pantser, through and through. I sit with barely an idea (my biggest challenge) and out comes characters, then a story, then a book.

So why then, did I want a planner? Good question! Mainly because I *DO* like tracking things that I do accomplish, such as word counts, and once my story's going, I *DO* develop things further.

In an endevour to have better time management, I set out to find a planner, but none I found suited my needs. I wanted a planner for my writing, not for life, because I don't plan things in life (I live a dull and quiet one). There are only a couple writing related ones, and they were boring.

I ended up hand writing my own and what I'd put into one given the chance to have my own. Then I thought, why not just have it and make it myself? I'm good with Photoshop. Thus, The Erotic Writer's Planner was born.

Why Erotic Writers? Because, as I said, there are (albeit only a few) writer's planners out there. Simple, yes, and not many, but they exist. I write Erotica (and more, but I started off an erotica writer) and as such, thought catering to other erotica writers was the way to go. How could I do that? By incooperating sexy, tasteful, NSFW images. In this edition (Vol 1, 2021) the images are all of the female form. If this planner gains traction, and there's demand for it, next year can include other images. As this project was last minute (as in I came up with the idea after the holidays of 2020, but before the new year) I decided to do the planner I wanted, and then just release it to the void to see if anyone else wanted it.

I plan (ha) for The Erotic Writer's Planner to be an ongoing project that will grow each year, and evolve into what other Erotic Writers want and need in it. First plan, will be to make a smaller edition of Vol 1. This edition is 8x10 and may no suit everyone's needs. Following years, will include different/additional photos, new pages, perhaps as requested, and more. Keep up here for the newest updates.

Bout of Books 30 - Wrap Up

This Bout of Books was my first dud of a BoB. There were all kinds of reasons but I just didn't get the reading done that I had hoped to. I only read/listened to a novella a day - if that, so a very quiet Bout of Books for me. I also didn't do my daily recap or track times, since it was just one book a day. Here's to hoping the next one fares better!
