Hope you enjoy "A Discovery of BDSM"

The Blurb:
“Have you… have you ever… experimented with BDSM?”

Of all the things Kenzie’s best friend and lover could have asked her, she didn’t expect that question. Yet, three years into their friendship, it’s exactly what Felicity wanted to know. A twenty-three year old Kenzie learns of Dominance and submission for the first time, and it intrigues her as much as it intrigued Felicity.

Authors Note: The events of A Discovery of BDSM are set twenty-one years prior to the first book of the Bijou Basin series - Natural Exposure. Though Kenzie and Felicity, the main characters of this short story, are still best friends and occasional playmates, they are not still in a relationship with each other in Natural Exposure. Felicity is shown plenty through the first three books of the series and is quite impatiently, rudely, and effusively clamoring for her own story to be told.

Book Recommendations #1: Erotica / Erotic Romance

If you've looked at any of my posts, it shouldn't be a surprise to you that I READ Erotica / Erotic Romance, since I write it. I've been reading Erotica (different forms, but I'll leave it at that for ease sake) for about 11 years now. Why not before then? Too long of a story to get into.

It was... summer of 2011 that I read my first BDSM book, and fell in love with D/s. After researching a few things, and reading more, I approached the subject with my Husband, and we haven't looked back. A lot myself is in my character, Kenzie, and a lot of my Husband in hers, Jarrett.

The first book I read with BDSM was Sweet Surrender by Maya Banks. I quickly soaked up the series, before discovering Cherise Sinclair, the QUEEN of BDSM.

I will say that I liked Maya for a long while, reading nearly everything she wrote, up to one particular book. In that one, she decided to go the way of "50 Shades of Crap" making the book ABUSIVE instead of BDSM. Within it, the male MC left the female MC ALONE at a Dungeon to take a damn phone call, and she was nearly raped. *Deep Breath* Since then, I won't touch Maya Banks, that was NOT acceptable to me, and that she forgave him? Oh, hell no. I have very strong feelings on this. So, it's with much hesitancy that I recommend Maya at all. Her Sweet series is good as was her early books, through 2016-ish.

So who DO I like, and what books DO I recommend? So glad you asked. I don't tend to read the books everyone else does. The big names with exceptions, I don't gravitate towards them because I don't like following the pack. I like discovering not as well known books. Probably much of my lists you'll be like, who? But trust me, and try them out, especially if you haven't heard of them!

***NOTE: I only read certain types of BDSM books***
Later on perhaps I'll get onto my tirade of Proper BDSM versus crap that plays at BDSM, but that's not for today. Today is for recommendations, so here are mine in no particular order (except the first four):

Shadowlands series by Cherise SinclairEverything Cherise SinclairThe Reluctant Dom by Tymber Dalton Club El Diablo series by Holly S Roberts First 3 books of the Rescue Me series by Kallypso MastersThe Receptionist series by Juniper Bell Jane Porter series by Dominique Adair Desire Oklahoma series by Leah Brooke Graceful Submission by Melinda Barron Take the Rainbow by Elizabeth Myrrh The Baumgartners Plus One & The Sybian Club by Selina Kitt His and Hers and Hers by Nona Raines

While not any specific favorites, here are random other authors I've enjoy who write erotica:

Lora Leigh Jennifer Probst Trista Ann Michaels Evangeline Anderson Abby Gordon Belle Andre Elle Kennedy Mari Carr Lora Leigh Opel Carew

Do you have any erotic / erotic romance recs?

Bijou Bugle Issue #1 - Location of Bijou Basin

Welcome to the Bijou Bugle, your one stop shop of all things relating to the town and characters of Bijou Basin.

If you're new here, explanations are necessary. You can find those here:
How Natural Exposure came to be
An intro to Bijou Basin (the fictional town in Natural Exposure)

Now that you're caught up. Today's Bijou Bugle subject:
Location, location, location!
The fictional town of Bijou Basin is approximately 30 miles west of the Magic Kingdom. The town is surrounded on three sides by a real Nature Preserve. When creating the fictional town, once I decided to have it in Florida to utilize WDW within my stories, I tried to find a place that would be close enough to the parks but yet far enough to be remote. Even now, though it's built up over the years, Lake County is much more open land than populated, like it's surrounding counterparts. The stretch along which Bijou Basin resides still have very few homes (if you look on Google Maps you'll see a few). The little notch in the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve gave me my perfect locations and left the town with one point in and out of it increasing it's hidden nature.

Would Bijou Basin, as it is with it's bylaws and way it's run, be an actual town? Probably not. It does function more like a Gated Community, so just imagine it that way when you think about it, and don't wonder too much. Let me have my creative licenses!!

I love maps. You'll see many maps, drawings (sorry in advance, I'm NOT an artist), and floorplans in the upcoming Bijou Bugles. Here are your first.

Shows the town's location in regards to WDW

Shows the town's acreage
Just over 6000 acres, or approximately 9.5 square miles

Stay tuned for more Bijou Bugles that focus on the people, places, and things of Natural Exposure. Along with those I'll be posting daily a variety of things, including book recommendations, Disney Trivia, my writing process, looks into the items I make with Photoshop and much more. Feel free to hit the subscribe buttons to the right to subscribe via email or RSS if you'd like to keep up to date.

Would you prefer a newsletter to a blog post? I haven't decided if I'll go that route - for privacy reasons. But if many of you prefer it, leave me a comment so I can work on that!

A preview of Bijou Basin - the fictional town of my stories

The establishment of people, places and things by authors is undoubtedly a unique experience for each. Authors, I'd like to hear from you.

How did you come up with the ideas for your
characters and/or fictional locales?

To give you a little background on HOW I came to write Natural Exposure in the first place, read this blog post. I haven't been writing all my life or always have stories in my head. My journey here was unique (at least I think, what do you think?)

That said, I want to tell you how my fictional town of Bijou Basin came to be.

First, a little snippet about Bijou Basin (herein refereed to as "BB" or simply "the Basin") from Natural Exposure.

Bijou Basin's Beginning:
Founded in 1969 by the LGBTQ+ employees of Walt Disney World, Bijou Basin is a small town with an even smaller ambiance.

By pooling resources, several hundred employees purchased just over 6000 acres thirty miles west of the Magic Kingdom. The land was barren, most of it marshy swamps, but they worked together to build a small neighborhood. Since many of the employees were builders and engineers who constructed the Magic Kingdom, the town grew swiftly.

Five years after its founding, the land surrounding Bijou Basin was purchased for preservation, creating the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve. The town, nestled in its own little pocket, now had protected land on three sides, only the east side providing its sole egress.

As workers and lovers of Walt Disney, many of the employees coming from California, they wanted the town to reflect, but not copy, their love of the two parks: Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom. Roads downtown manifest this in their names: Backwater Boulevard, Independence Trail, Expedition Avenue, Illusion Drive, and Morrow Lane.

The core foundation of BB has its roots firmly wrapped around Disney. There's more about that in the book and will be more here at the blog about that.

But before BB came to be - I had to figure out what I wanted. Once I decided on Florida for my town (I waffled between there, where I lived most of my life, and where I live now, NC) it was on to names and locations.

All things Bijou Basin REFLECT but don't completely copy all things Disney. For example, the 5 lands of the Magic Kingdom are: Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, so the residents of Bijou Basin created 5 main roads in their town, each nearly a quarter mile in length and gave them the names listed above.

But, I've gotten ahead of myself, again. First, naming Bijou Basin.

I likewise wanted to reflect Disney, and this refection is more subtle than the ones above. I started with "Bay Lake" and the "Seven Seas Lagoon" both of which are connected and outside the Magic Kingdom. But just those names without their context weren't enough, so I looked up synonyms of Bay, and got both Basin and Bayou, keeping them in mind. But what before or after that? My search lead me to the Trains, and specifically the "Lilly Belle" named after Walt's wife, Lillian.

Belle lead me onto Jewels, being the Belle of the Ball and such, so I went around with gems and jewels until I stumbled over Bijou. Initially I thought Bijou Swamp, since the land surrounding it is the Green Wilderness Swamp Preservation, but I didn't think it flowed well, plus I was liking the Bayou and Basin synonyms. Bijou Basin was born! :D

In the coming weeks/months, I'll talk a lot more about the history and backgrounds of my town, characters and other locales. If you haven't read Natural Exposure, you're missing out on some unique people, places, and things. No fear, I'll bring some of that here, but hopefully you'll still try out Natural Exposure (on sale at Smashwords through 5/31).

A Discovery of BDSM - UPDATE - still on pre-order

***A DisBDSM Update***

Back on April 9th I posted about a 3k short story I was putting on Amazon for release on the 18th that was short and sweet - no erotic content, just a discussion about BDSM.

Well...

I decided it was too short, and it was too much of a "scene" rather than a short story, so... I expanded it. I did change the release date to 4/22, but the 3100 word short story is now a 8500 word Novelette and the sweet with no erotic content changed to Holy Hell Smoking HOT! :) Kenzie and Felicity get in ON, experimenting with BDSM for the first time, including elements of D/s, Bondage, Spanking, Sensation play, and a little bit of Discipline when Felicity runs her mouth, because the bratty sub A L W A Y S runs her mouth.

And right now, A Discovery of BDSM is on SALE with the pre-order price of just $0.99! When it goes live Wednesday, it'll go up to $2.99, though it will be available through Kindle Unlimited. My first book on KU. I hope it does okay.

The Blurb:
"Have you… have you ever… experimented with BDSM?”

Smashwords Authors Give Back sale has been extended through May 31st. So another month plus to get so many books for 30%, 60%, and 100% off! Natural Exposure is 60% off for only $2.40. That's a 289 page novel for less than the price DisBDSM will be when it goes live.

But I'll let you in on a little secret. The last day of the sale is a day I hate more than most. Though I hate the day, you benefit, as I'll make Natural Exposure FREE on May 31st.

A Discovery of BDSM is up on Pre-Order

There I was, minding my own business, doing the re-writes for Book 2 of my series, when a short story popped into my head, and I wrote it. LOL!

Now my series is complicated. I have the Bijou Basin series - which is the main series with Book 1 - Natural Exposure, Book 2 - writing 2nd draft, and Book 3 - approximately 75% of 1st draft completed. With the newest short story (a second one), I've created Bijou Basin Book Bites - short stories about the characters of my main series - though some books may be set prior to their life in the Basin. Confused yet? Hope not! :)

So, A Discover of BDSM is set 23 years before the events of Natural Exposure, and focuses on Kenzie (the MC of NaEx) and her best friend, Felicity. While Felicity isn't a MC of NaEx and the two are no longer officially a couple (though still occasional playmates), she's seen a lot in the series, always having Kenzie's back.

It's established that Kenzie and Felicity discovered most of their kinks, and that they are polyamorous, together. A Discovery of BDSM showcases that, when Felicity asks a simple question.

Check out this cute short story on KU, officially releasing 4/18. It's not erotic - just a sweet, if hot, discussion about BDSM.

Countdown to publishing: Editing continues

What's your editing like? Do you have a way that works for you? What are the main things you weed out of your writing during edits?

My story has been solid since I made the changes to the beginning. I forget when I did that - October maybe? I need to keep better track of my revisions. November I wrote most of the 1st draft of Book 3. I didn't do much December through some of January and have been doing edits since.

My edits lately have been for my filler words, just tightening it up. "Just" is a big one for me, I had it around 150 times in Book 1 back before I rewrote the beginning, then after the new beginning I had it again 45 times. :/ Now, it's at a more acceptable 10. Do any of you not worry about your fillers? I read two books this week with over 200 instances of "Just" in each, and I wonder why I worry about it - since both were traditionally published by well known publishers. But, I prefer tightening it up. I'm new with writing and I know in time, I'll just stop those errors like the others I stopped already.

When I first started writing last year, I wrote with passives and I got rid of those quick, once I started reading and studying the craft of writing. After that, I learned that I wrote with a lot of '-ing' words starting the sentences. It's an easy way to write for first person, but repetitive. That took a little longer to get out of my system. Now, I'm working on the fillers.

Fillers are harder for me because while I'm brand new to writing creatively (I've only been doing it just under a year) I'm a life-long pen paller - so I've always written in a conversational / lazy way - never proper English and such. So, I think getting my fillers under control will take some time - I mean just look at this. My biggest fillers are right here - just, so, some... ect.

Less than 10 chapters left to edit, get rid of most of the buggy fillers and be ready for release April 4th. YAY!
