Ep.087: How to be Genuinely Happy Even in the Waiting with Lisa Harper

lisa-harper-quote APPLE PODCAST | SPOTIFY | STITCHER

Do you feel like you are always waiting?

My husband Justin and I are right in the middle of that wait ourselves on trying to start our family. At times this waiting season can be excruciating for me because it feels like everything else is simultaneously on hold. We can’t be happy in anything else until this one thing comes true.

While that obviously couldn’t be further from the truth – at the time it seemed almost all consuming. It was the ONLY truth I was telling myself.

What about you? Are you waiting on…

The next promotionThe new houseA loved one to be healedTo become a wifeOr a mother?

If you’re anything like me, I’m sure you feel like your prayers aren’t even being heard, but then, as if on cue, just tell everyone:

“I’m fine, really.”

And continue on – putting on another layer of lipgloss hoping it will cover more than just the lack of color on our lips– but also the little white lies we speak through them.

Trust me, no judgement here. I get it. All too well.

And if you haven’t heard it yet today, let me be the first to tell you:

You DO NOT have to FAKE it until you MAKE it.

I could go on a long tangent about that – but we’d be here for ages.

So what if I told you that you could be happy – yes, genuinely happy – while NOT faking it through the hard stuff? Without pretending to be happy in the waiting?

You see, today I had a conversation with Lisa Harper, best-selling author + speaker, and she understands the everyday struggle. She gets it. BUT! That’s because she has figured out the secret. Ready?

Focus on the 99, not the 1.

Let me tell you what she means here.

If you shift your focus to the 99 answered prayers and not solely on the 1 “in the waiting”, you WILL be able to hope for the future while STILL finding extreme joy right where you are.

Now, this isn’t to undermine the extreme difficulty you are going through. Because those circumstances will most likely still be there.

lisa-harper-blog-quote But, you CAN grieve for your heart’s desire AND worship at the same time.

Tell me, what would your life look and feel like if you had:

Extreme joy

Genuine happiness

True contentment

Seriously. I want you to visualize that right now and put yourself in that place.

Because I do TRULY believe that is possible for you. Even in this very moment.

Focusing on those 99 answered prayers is the tool in your toolbox to help propel you there.

And of course, in true Lisa-humor fashion, I just loved when Lisa added to our conversation that we don’t have to wear Spanx with God. Can I please get an amen?!

SO! If you are ready to take off those Spanx and faux smiles and embrace happiness in the waiting – make sure to tune into today’s episode with Lisa Harper where we finish the rest of this life-giving conversation.

We dive into:

The freedom you will find in understanding how grief and worship can go hand-in-hand

Ways that you can embrace happiness in the middle of the wait or long slow climb

How to be equipped to find rest in the moment by focusing on the ‘99’ instead of the ‘1’

The unique way that pain is not punitive, but rather a promotion

Friends, You CAN wish God would change your circumstances, WHILE simultaneously loving your life.

Why? Because, there is a miracle to be had TODAY, not tomorrow, not 10 years from now, but TODAY!

You are going to be blown away by Lisa’s wisdom, her story, her good news story, and her humor! I can’t wait for you to listen!

EP. 086: 4 Easy Strategies To Finding A Mentor With Kelsey Chapman

kelsey-chapman-podcast APPLE PODCAST SPOTIFY | STITCHER Friends, did you know that we are living in a time where the world is the most “connected” it’s ever been?  Yet…on a personal level many people report that this is the loneliest they have ever felt. Intriguing, right? So what’s going on here. Because we are NOT meant to do life alone.Let me ask you a question. Would you rather:Think about your dreams and daydream about the potential for your life? Or…Link arms with women eager to invest in your future? If you answered B, but think it’s too good to be true – then keep reading!  I had a conversation with Kelsey Chapman, author + podcaster, and she let me in on the one secret that you need to look for when you are searching for your ‘home team’: Take off the expectation of who will invest in you.It doesn’t have to be the CEO. Or the pastor’s wife. Or the person that is 5-years of ahead of you.  Look for women that are ALREADY noticing you. Notice those who notice you!! Because the one thing you should be looking for in a mentor:  Willingness.  Not someone with a big Instagram following. No, not the blue check mark of ‘approval.’It’s the willingness to INVEST into you + your dream. Willingness is what makes a mentor great!  It’s simple. And that difficult all at once. Slow down right now – and look around you to see who you have around you that is WILLING to invest in you – because they BELIEVE in you. Seriously, stop and think about it RIGHT NOW. If that makes you a little uncomfortable thinking about that – let me ask you this: Do you have any feelings of fear, stubbornness, or pride popping up? What if someone says no?

Phew – I know this is something I’ve personally struggled with when asking for help. I mean, can’t I just do all the things on my own? I can totally do it all (I say as I hold back sobs of overwhelm. You too? Okay good.). And worse yet – WHAT IF SOMEONE SAYS NO.

Well, if you’re ready to put the fear aside and gain some practical advice on how to find + ask someone to be a mentor, go ahead and tune into today’s podcast episode with Kelsey Chapman where we finish the rest of this conversation.

We dive into:

Practical steps on how to even begin the conversation of reaching out to someone you look up to to ask about mentorship; What to do if they say no;Ways to have wisdom and discernment to know who would be a good mentor; and How to take the first steps to becoming a mentor yourself if you feel led.A very raw, honest conversation

Oh boy, is it a very raw, honest conversation between Kelsey and me today. We connected instantly over the feeling of being the “new kids” in the room, longing to have a seat at tables that are seemingly full. Of wanting to be seen and noticed. (Have you been there?)
Friends, I just know that you are going to walk away feeling as inspired and understood as I did.

If you are ready to confidently step into and steward the fullness of your dreams, you will not want to miss today’s powerful episode!

I can’t wait for you to dive in!

The Unstuck Challenge

The world seems to reward this fleeting currency of fast.

Fast growth. Fast followers. Overnight “success.”

But if you zoom out just a little and look at true success over the long haul- this building something that matters, building something that lasts, leaving a legacy that lasts beyond just you- it never happens overnight. It never happens in a microwave- this fast food, fast influence, fake-it-til-you-make-it, just so long as it looks good on the outside version of ourselves that “hustle culture” tells us we have to be if we are ever going to matter. That kind of success never lasts.

And you and me? We don’t want to be just another flash in the pan.

If you are…

*Tired of feeling like your story doesn’t matter simply because it didn’t happen as fast as everyone else

*Exhausted from the constant pressure to keep up in a race that no one seems to ever win.

*Looking for the permission to grow slow, to take your time, to build something that will go the distance, something you can be proud of for a lifetime…

…then this challenge is for you!

Join me for 5 days,  where every day you’ll get a lesson delivered right to your inbox walking you step by step through the process of what it looks like to flip the script on hustle, burnout, and “overnight success” that never lasts. All while making focused, intentional growth toward building what matters.

And then every afternoon will be digging in even deeper to that day’s message with a Facebook coaching video to talk about what it means to grow slow.
