then Read along

Sobek’s Tears, tells the story of an aggressive and fearless god who not only controlled the waters of the Nile, but also suffered from hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). As the Egyptian god of fertility and water he was both adored and feared, for he could often side with chaos.

Includes Shipping in US and Canada

As Sobek was busy helping to create the world and laying eggs along what would be the banks of the Nile, his sweat would become the mighty river. Good thing there was not yet a pill for that.
Sobek was thought to protect both the Pharoah and even some of the gods. It is thought that he assisted the venerable Isis during the childbirth of Horus. He also saved Horus’ four children in his net when they emerged from a lotus flower in the Nile.

This may explain why temple complexes devoted to him often had their own pond, complete with their own crocodile that was fed milk and honey and the choicest cuts of meat. Move over Cleopatra! Tick-Tock the crocodile from Peter Pan (not the social media platform) must feel jealous they did not end up in an ancient Egyptian temple.

The Hottest Kiss You will Ever See (TSFW) – Totally Safe For Work
The kind of kiss that burns so hot, it leaves a mark! So break out your chapstick and sun screen, because thinks are about to get steamy, as we tell the tale of this raku pottery vase pairing ‘Venus & Adonis‘.
This kiss was so hot, it could have only happened between two vases in a raku fired reduction. As many of you know, we specialize in raku pottery, and part of that process involves removing vases from the kiln at around 1000 degrees, while the glaze is still molten.

When things are as hot as that
One needs protection from the heat, and even still I’ve singed the hair off my knuckles. Estheticians every where must be jealous of my secret trick for hair removal.

Pieces are then placed in a reduction bin, and everything needs to happen at a steady, yet frantic pace. In my last firing, two vases made contact during this process. Fortunately, I realized my mistake, and was able to separate ‘Venus & Adonis‘ before they were locked in a permanent embrace.

From The Depths Of The Flames An Island Emerges!
Well -rather an artifact – to be factual.
presenting the third pieceIn our series ‘Primythical‘- Atlantis’. If you would like to read more about how this piece was made, you can click here. You can also view our first two pieces in the series here, in case you missed them.

For some it is a mythical place, and for others a historical place lost in the veils of antiquity. It has inspired art, literature, television, cartoons, and movies. Even Atlantis is not safe from a Disney makeover.
If you have ever heard of Atlantis, you have one man to thank for it – Plato. All of our other accounts of Atlantis in existence stem from his writing. But where did Plato hear of Atlantis? Some say from Egyptian records, others say it was a fictional place used as a mythical metaphor invented by Plato himself.
If Plato’s telling was a matter of history, Atlantis was already over 9,000 years old when he told his story. He had claimed Atlantis fell out of favour with the gods and was swallowed by the ocean for making war against those on the other side of the pillars of Hercules – including Athens.
Many disbelieve the Atlantis story because it would place organized civilizations much earlier than previously thought. But recently tools were discovered on Crete that are 130,000 years old, so who can say what is untrue? Maybe one day we will find Atlantis or some other underwater city and we’ll be trying to read hydroglyphs!

I wonder if Plato knew his brief writing of ‘Atlantis’ in his dialogues would outlive him to this day? For there are not many today who have not heard of Atlantis.
What do you think? Is it possible Atlantis was a real place?

And be sure to let us know what you think of the latest piece in our series ‘Primythical‘! Have a great day!
