National Shapewear Day?🤔

This ain’t your average ad for a girdle, but today legitimately is

National Shapewear Day!

So let’s dig right in to our story!

Princess Admete wanted it, Hercules laboured for it, and Hippolyta almost never took it off. Today’s vase story tells the tale of an ill thought out gift, Hercules charms, early woman’s liberation, and a wedding.

The cause of all of this?

A magic girdle.

Most people would not even consider a girdle as a gift for their daughter, particularly if you are the father. At best, it’s creepy and a little insulting, at worst it’s a great way to let your patriarchy flag fly. I think Hippolyta’s father Ares could have benefited from the help of a personal shopper.

Ares gifted his daughter this ‘magic girdle’ as a symbol of her ‘dignity’, which is really ancientspeak for virginity. Not cool dad!

Perhaps Ares could have appreciated some Spanx!

‘Phew, now I don’t have to suck in my stomach’

Needless to say for someone’s whose name means ‘let loose,’ a girdle was not a great fit. I am sure she was waiting for just the right bra burning-esque moment to liberate herself.

Raku Vase – Hippolyta’s Girdle

That moment would come when news of a visitor started spreading around the Amazon kingdom. He was handsome, he was a hero, he was Hercules, heartthrob of the ancient world. It wasn’t too often that such an eligible bachelor was so close.

Hippolyta decided to visit Hercules on his boat. She was so impressed by him that she gave him her ‘magic girdle’. It just so happened that retrieving it was his ninth labour. This was very convenient for Hippolyta, because she finally got to take off that allegedly magical, constricting girdle.

This is where the real magic began. Hercules, in a good mood because he thought his David Lee Roth like charm won the day, introduced her to his friend Theseus. The two fell in love and would be later married.

Maybe that’s the magic of the girdle.

The only was to find true love in yourself and others is to take the thing off
– If you want to.

What do you think of this story and vase?

Are you a fan of shapewear?

Volcanic

Last night, the sky put on quite a show! There was an assortment of
shapes and colours and before the sun had set,
what looked like a volcano
behind the studio! And so it seems like the perfect time to share a truly volcanic vase!

Madame Pele’s Flow‘, tells the tale of a sometimes beautiful goddess who was right at home in the flames of raku. Not only could she sometimes appear as a beautiful woman, but also a white dog, even an old woman, but also a lava flow.

I wonder what picture she used on her tinder profile, and how many of her suitors got burned!

$124
Shipping Included in Canada and US
After reading this story, I don’t think any of her suitors will be asking her to go dutch!

Madame Pele, or Tutu Pele, has become well known for her power, passion, beauty and jealousy over the years. It makes you wonder why someone would challenge her to a race.

You just know someone is going to go down in this, the original flame war.

It was time again for the ever popular and fun houla races!

A houla is a wooden sled that is used to slide down steep stone slopes. A certain skilled houla rider, Papalauahi, was renowned for his skills. Bored by mediocre competition, he and the other chiefs decided to challenge Pele to a race.

Much to the delight of Papalauahi, he coasted easily to victory in the race, much to the cheers and applause of the other chiefs and spectators.

But this was not to be a ‘cool’ running.

Hell hath no fury like a god scorned!

Papalauahi might have been a mighty chief who won the race, but the victory party would become the hottest even on the island. Madame Pele in her rage would release a great flow of red hot lava that would overwhelm many of the spectators and chiefs, proving the age old advice of don’t play with fire – or a volcano goddess!

We can still see traces of the momentous race that occurred in lower Puna. Where stone trees/pillars of the those consumed by lava still stand today.

I guess they won’t be winning races anytime soon . . . or at all.

To The Dragon Mothers

Motherhood is always challenging

But imagine trying to raise three wilful dragons. The daycare costs alone must cost a fortune and imagine trying to hire a nanny (though Arya may be a suitable candidate, and possible future sister-in-law.)

Mother of Dragons is named in honour of the Game of Throne’s Daenrys Targaryen, but is also here today to celebrate the full spectrum of motherhood, in all its colours.

Mother of Dragons
$240
Shipping Included in the US and Canada
This piece celebrates the magic of motherhood

You can see where the flames have touched this vase during the reduction process. This moment has been captured perfectly and I can see a correlation between where the flames kissed the vase and the patterns on the vase. It was like our dragon friend Viserion was present in spirit before his icy reanimation.

You can see more of our raku vases, here

Three cheers to all
the dragon mothers of the world!
