That Organic Life...
…and by that I mean ORGANIC BOOKS, right in the heart of Nob Hill in Albuquerque. As far as I know they are Albuquerque’s only store to stock my books…so if you are in town (to get some chile or possibly to see some balloons) and happen to be in the market for one of my books, go get it a copy from them! They’d appreciate it, and you know I damn sure would too.
For context: hustling books is really tough. Especially if, like me, you don’t really believe in trying to twist someone’s arm or convince people of anything. I’ve thought a lot about this in the 25 years I’ve been publishing, and only recently realized something that (probably) everyone else already knew.
Now, as a writer, I obviously I want my books on shelves — waiting for anyone who is interested — to pick up, thumb through, marvel at, and then go buy!
And bookstores also want books (mine and everyone else’s) on the shelves — for a while. But what they then need is for the books to sell…and, to keep selling well enough to restock and then sell more. Turns out books just sitting on shelves don’t exactly help the store’s bottom line — a shocking revelation, I know!
I guess I’d never realized that this creates a dynamic wherein writers and stores — who all love books — are slightly at odds in terms their respective desires in the business! Shelf space — the lifeblood of bookstores — is such a limited commodity that it’s understandable why each store struggles to find a way that works for them and why there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to getting books out in the world.
Which is what makes stores like ORGANIC (and TWO DOLLAR RADIO in Ohio) so special. They’ve made getting books out there as painless as possible — taking a couple copies of a handful of different titles, and simply buying them outright. So forgive me if I am constantly singing their praise! The simple fact is this is real boots-on-the-ground support for writers and publishers both big and small.
And I consider myself very lucky to be on their shelves. It’s an easy way for us all to do our part to KEEP BOOKS DANGEROUS!

Padres' Girl...
Padres’ Girl
A drunk poem animation steeped in regret — however imagined and fleeting...
Bah, I never was much for America's game anyhow!
Hosho McCreesh narrates another vibrant and witty collage animation courtesy of Nicolas Aberastain.

Hot Patching Sheetrock and Hiking Around in Nogales...
Two more animated drunk poems from A Deep & Gorgeous Thirst.
In the first we put the “mental” in experimental, and in the second we unveil a new collage-style animation from Nicolas Aberastain, his first (but hopefully not last) addition to the larger project!
Cheers!

The King!
King Lutzo reads about actually being The King, sage-like wisdom, and a couple other things that are like you, "...only better."
Enjoy the latest in our on-going series of animated drunk poems!

Resolutions...
Yeah, so…for years, on three of my drunk poem animations, I inexplicably built them with a low-res version of the animation. Cue Chris Farley vid smacking and berating himself! So I’ve finally managed to fix that. I think.
These 3 early drunk poems are now rebuilt with the high-res files, as intended. The glorious readings by Chris Oxley, Sean Lynch, and Willy Vlautin…should also be pretty darn easy to enjoy!

"You Fat, Bloated Idiot!"
You know what’s in that don’t you?
Fans of Red & Stimpy should immediately spot the influence on our next drunk poem animation…that hilarious Ralph Bakshi style brought beautifully to life by Christopher Ian McFarlane of Haunted Mirror Forest!
Once again, Mema reads as our two feckless “heroes” can’t appreciate the subtle advances of a sweet gal at a hot dog cart. Enjoy!

"You Gonna Buy One or You Be One?"
Like one of those wondrous days of yore, back where I had nothing much to do beyond knocking back a few on a lazy afternoon, the past couple weeks have seen the release of a whole cache of brand new ANIMATED DRUNK POEMS, one after the other…so, in case you missed them, here’s a grip of them gathered here for your viewing pleasure!
Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t shout out Loulie Bouler and Site 30 Studios — who both continue to help make the animations possible. Big love to you all!

Dublin, Peru
The animated drunk poems march on!
For anyone who doesn’t follow us over on YouTube or on Vimeo, we launched a couple new drunk poem animations. In fact, the next few weeks will see a smattering of new animations land, so keep an eye out for them!
As for the recent batch: First, we visit The Abbey Theater in Dublin…
…and then, like a fool, we don’t visit Peru…

THIRST on YouTube
Three sheets…
So, my kiddo convinced me to start putting all the ANIMATED DRUNK POEMS up at YouTube (not just Vimeo), and I have to say, it’s been a much better experience than I remember. I have vague memories of struggling to get things to work, and the overall experience not really feeling efficient…but I am happy to say that it is no longer that way! In fact, I think it’s probably easier than putting stuff up at Vimeo.
Every few days one of the animations is being added…so if YouTube is your video spot fo choice, most of the DRUNK POEM ANIMATIONS should soon be there for your viewing pleasure. And starting on October 22nd, there’ll be some new ones launching, so if you haven’t seen them all, now’s your chance to catch up!
The kiddo also reminded me that we live in a brave new world, one where you can watch the drunk poems via the YouTube or Vimeo apps on your smart TVs, so “like & subscribe” as the kids do say…or just turn them on with a cold one, because here at DrunkSkull HQ you never need to drink alone!
