Ragged Lion Journal Numbers 1 - 3

Ragged Lion 1-3.jpg

These beauties landed this week…magazine-sized and brimming with small press goodness! I’m jazzed to have a short story, “It Seemed Like the Perfect Music” leading off Vol. 2. — the only place you can find the story as of now. Edwin Sellors has truly hit the ground running, with tremendous energy and ambition for his press. I admire the hell out of that. GIVE THEM A LOOK, and you’ll see what I mean!

Aloha!

Hawaii Pacific Review.png

Go Read it!

Hawaii Pacific Review was kind enough to feature one of the drunk poems from A DEEP & GORGEOUS THIRST, one about living my best life in my friend’s family chalet in the Alps. I’ve long thought of that time on my life as an early glimpse at what retirement might looks like, and the memory of it has kept me going through many a weary day since. I can only hope that those artistically minded working folks among you will find something in it to help you through those long, hard days punching a clock. If so, pop on over to HPR and let them know so!

Down the Hatch: Barstool Chats with Hosho McCreesh

Knock back a quick few with Ross and me!

Knock back a quick few with Ross and me!

read here

Ross Nervig, a writer from the Canadian wilds of Nova Scotia, had a few questions about A DEEP & GORGEOUS THIRST - UNABRIDGED AUDIO, the choices made during the writing of it, and also how to best manage a hangover. It’s a quick read, if you’ve got time…and Southwest Review is a pretty terrific lit mag all the way around. Many thanks to Ross, to Robert Rea, and to William Boyle who put us all in touch.

If you’re after a cheap cheap CHEAP digital download, CHIRP BOOKS is running a limited-time promo…$5 gets you all 3.5 drunken hours!

The only thing cheaper than that is free…and, if you follow me on the various social medias, I’m occasionally sending out free download codes…so try to grab one up there!

More Bad Decisions with Joshua Mohr and Hosho McCreesh

More Bad Decisions w Josh and Hosh PNG.png

Joshua Mohr, author, editor, teacher, and champion of writers everywhere, was kind enough to sit down for a chat. You’ll find that my first BAD DECISION was the settings used to record what was otherwise a heartfelt and breezy chat about, among other things, bad decisions, The Unifying Theory of Everything (that connects our work), what’s at stake for the artist, “beige against the machine,” the redemptive power of fucking up, being white-boy wasted, crashing the saddest birthday party in the world, The Wisdom of the Kansas City Casino, and the future of AMC TV Shows.

SIRENS, his most recent book from Two Dollar Radio knows a little something about all of the above, and It’s also something A DEEP & GORGEOUS THIRST - UNABRIDGED AUDIO is no stranger to.

You can find Josh and his books HERE. He also runs DECANT EDITORIAL, and can absolutely help you make whatever you’re working on better.

The Downtown Writers Jam Podcast — with Brad King

Listen here

I had a hell of a lot of fun talking with Brad King (who hates poetry) about both these strange times we’re living in, and the challenges of putting out a big project during them. It was some tequila to nip at, and a conversation that absolutely breezed by — always a good sign. I hardly remember what I said, but I do know we touched on growing up in rural spots all over New Mexico, college, and how I found my way to writing then spent some time on the A DEEP & GORGEOUS THIRST - UNABRIDGED AUDIO project. Brad is a long-time lit-lover, and supporter of writers of every stripe, so after listening to our chat, enjoy delving
deeper into the archives HERE.

And here’s the trailer again, for those looking for the broad strokes on the new audio project!

Man in the Gutter Interview - justin.barrett

MitG justindotbarrett PNG.png

Obviously this dude is drunk, because he thinks the drunk poems have titles!

International man of mystery, justin.barrett is the guest today. He recalls fondly an evening down in the cups with our women in San Francisco (or he lies about remembering, as he was really gone!).

Drunk Poem Animation #4 by Mattia Adorni, Narrated By Willy Vlautin

Leaving the Frontier Restaurant after our interview, Willy Vlautin graciously agreed to record a couple poems for my drunken opus. Yes, writer, musician, and an all-around solid human being — Vlautin reads the last of our animated drunk poems, one about waking to all the dumb joy and redemption following a night gone sideways with booze.

Once again, Mattia Adorni dreamed up another gorgeous piece filled with humor and charm.

*Spoiler Alert: Full Frontal Nudity!

A DEEP & GORGEOUS THIRST - UNABRIDGED AUDIO is available on May 24th, 2020.

Man in the Gutter Interview - Nana

MitG Nana png.png

Queen of moderation and my terrific and talented mother-in-law, Nana is our Man in the Gutter guest today. Herein she fondly recalls the drunk poem about a new and exciting way to imbibe that’s sweeping the nation…maybe.

Better yet, maybe not...

Bottoms up!?

Knuckle Rap with William Boyle and Hosho McCreesh

Knuckle Rap w William Boyle and Hosh.png

William Boyle — a burgeoning Brooklyn boss of his own, ever-growing literary criminal underworld — stops by to talk about bonne chance, elevator pitches, growing up in the early 90s, writing an interconnected thing like a Robert Altman movie, pausing for coffee, Herbert Selby. Jr., Brooklyn as a landscape of spiritual anguish, real bars and made up bars and a combination of the two, smoking, The Wrong Number, sitting in a dive bar watching Cheers, run-of-the-mill shenanigans, and skylight B&E.

Bill’s been a friend of the DrunkSkull Worldwide Movement since the early days. Here is a quote from his review of the print edition of THIRST, followed by a little video of everything both he and I drank one weekend during the launch.

“One of my favorite books of 2013, the kind of poetry collection I don’t stumble across that often, the kind that hits like a freight train and makes me want to drink and drink and be alive forever.”

— William Boyle
