Dreams or memories? Heart and Soul #8sunday #snippetsunday
Rowan is asleep in her new appartment situated above the Heart and Soul, coffee house.
This is Rowan's POV.
***
Rowan tossed and turned in her sleep, but the dreams invaded her slumber without a care of how she would fair in the morning. She used to try to force them away, but now she welcomed them with hopes of learning more about the couple she was connected to in ways that would boggle the mind. It had taken her years to accept and embrace it even when others thought she'd lost all perspective on what was real and what was imagined.
In her dream, she was in a hotel room staring at her reflection in the mirror. The woman's face wasn't hers and yet she knew she stared at her own reflection as if this was a long ago memory... another life she'd once lived.
The other woman or rather she hummed as arranged her hair in a fashionable style. She glanced to the side as she caught sight of a man striding into the room. He wore a silly grin. She knew this man loved her, loved her like no other man had ever cherished her.

Hired! Heart and Soul #8sunday #snippetsunday
We're back to when Maverick is thinking back to the day he hired Rowan and why he thought she'd make a good fit.
This is Maverick's POV.
***
He glanced at the resume again and noticed there were only two references but he hadn't bothered to call either one of them. He placed the paper down and pursed his lips. At least he could say he didn't hired her for just her looks. He hadn't known what she looked liked when he spoke to her on the phone and yet he knew she wouldn't be unattractive.
He cringed at where his thoughts had gone. It was such a shallow thing to think but hell, he was still a guy. Looks mattered to a point at least—perky breasts helped too.
He shook his head and strode to his bedroom. Rowan had both but if she had the intellect to go with those great physical qualities, his all too male brain seemed hung up on, they were in business.
In the next few days, he'd know.

A call from Dad… Heart and Soul #8sunday #snippetsunday
For Father's Day, I thought I'd share a snippet with call from Maverick's father.
This is Maverick's POV.
***
Maverick answered his phone even though he would have liked to let it go to voicemail. "Hello, Dad."
Joseph Declan Sullivan or Sully, as he liked to be called, lived in L.A. and produced big named bands and artists alike. He was boisterous and opinionated and he treated everyone like a potential client, his son included.
"Hey, Mav. I'm wondering if you have an open spot for a new band I'd like to promote. Thought we try something small and move onto bigger and better."
"Bigger and better?" It rankled him how his father dismissed his place as insignificant.
"You know what I mean, Mav, don't get all putout," his father drawled, allowing his true Texan accent to surface as if his insults would sound less offensive with a twang.

Ghost Stories in the Gallery #Muzeo
I was honored when I was asked to read The Siren's Call, my short story that was inspired by Geoff Mitchell's artwork, The Hermit at the Ghost Stories in the Gallery event at the Muzeo. For me, speaking in public is scarier than coming face to face with a ghost.

Wooing a woman… Heart and Soul #8sunday #snippetsunday
Last week: Maverick was searching for Rowan's resume as if this will explain why he's enamored with the woman.
This is Maverick's POV.
***
The women went wild for that romantic crap and now he had his own ideas on how to please a woman. It wasn't just about sex–though that was an excellent benefit to a relationship. He also enjoyed, seeing the woman he was with, light up from a small gesture as simple as walking her to her door after a date or buying her little things she enjoyed like her favorite movies or music. He loved that part of the relationship, the 'wooing' as his Aunt Pam put it. Only, he never found the one he wanted to get down on one knee and ask that all too important question. He realized he could only woo a woman for so long before she lost interest and moved on to someone who had the balls to commit completely.
His hand landed on the resume he'd printed from the email Rowan had sent him. His eyes scanned the page with the typical information but there was nothing that screamed, I'm the best, hire me. He remembered she had called him to follow-up on her application and after their twenty minute or so conversation, he found himself telling her she had the job.

Resume… Heart and Soul #8sunday #snippetsunday
Last week: Maverick is intrigued with his new manager.
This is Maverick's POV.
***
He strode over to his desk that had papers strewn upon in it. He wanted to read Rowan's resume again. He hadn't meant to hire someone sight unseen but when he chatted with her over the phone, he liked the sound of her voice–a bit airy, a tad raspy and just enough sass to make it all interesting.
"Shit, man, you sound like you're writing a romance novel," he grumbled under his breath. His Aunt Pam would be proud. The woman had twenty-five romance novels under her belt. He'd be the first to admit he'd read at least ten of them during his time on the road with the band. They weren't half bad. Heck, he'd used a few moves the men in her book had used. He'd been young and hadn't quite had the finesse to romance a woman back then but Aunt Pam had it right.
