Siskiyou Wilderness: 3 books in the Academic Press at World University and School, for https://reunions.reed.edu/marketplace... * * * A vision of Reed College in a single book - John Sheehy's "Comrades of the Quest: An Oral History of Reed College" (2012

Hi Reedies,
How are you all? I just arrived at Reed College (in Portland, Oregon) for the reunion, and with 3 books in the Academic Press at World University and School, for https://reunions.reed.edu/marketplace.html,

Scott MacLeod ’85: World University and School Academic Press
Author of Naked Harbin Ethnography: Hippies, Warm Pools, Counterculture, Clothing-Optionality and Virtual Harbin, Winding Road Rainbow: Harbin, Wandering & the Poetry of Loving Bliss, Haiku~ish: and Other, Loving, Hippy, Harbin Poetry.

... I'm glad to say (& planned eventually in 7,111 known living languages, and ~200 countries, with machine translation, both for STEM and poetry, et al.)!
It would great to see you, and to visit over a cup of chai or coffee. Whom among you might you be around?
Byron Hann writes; "Please give my regards to the gang. Hopefully next time! XxB" :) (And just heard Gary Snyder talk at Stanford, one again connectedly ... https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/06/blue-poppy-just-heard-poet-reedie-uc.html ... thank you, Gary!)
Further Reed Reunions' Tweets may emerge here - https://twitter.com/scottmacleod ...

A vision of Reed College - John Sheehy's "Comrades of the Quest: An Oral History of Reed College" (2012) ... like a vision of Stanford University - John Hennessy's "Leading Matters: Lessons from My Personal Journey" (2018)

John Sheehy, 2012, "Comrades of the Quest: An Oral History of Reed College"

A little like Stanford's John Hennessy's "Leading Matters: Lessons from my Personal Journey," which I think of is a vision for Stanford (and I'm looking around for other similar Stanford 'vision' books) ...
when I asked John SHEEHY in the Reed College Commons this morning about other books expressing a kind of visionary vision for Reed, besides his "Comrades of the Quest" (which is both ethnographic and interview-oriented, too) he suggested:

Burton R. Clark, 1992 (1970)
"THE DISTINCTIVE COLLEGE: ANTIOCH, REED, AND SWARTHMORE"
Aldine Publishing Company, 1970
1992 - 2nd edition

Good morning, M,
Found these newspaper articles about the "King Lear" Shakespeare play you saw -
https://www.post-gazette.com/ae/theater-dance/2019/05/07/Quantum-Bricolage-mad-King-Lear-Carrie-Furnace-Shakespeare-Swissvale/stories/201905070096

https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2019/05/26/us/ap-us-king-lear-blast-furnace-backdrop.html
Dad, as having his "Lear" 'moments' in Pittsburgh, comes to mind and even too re 319.  I'm glad you're making these big steps ...
I still recall Dad's anger - his rage and furious tirades in the 1970s at the dinner table in the old kitchen of that house (before the Sun Room remodel), and toward you in your bedroom, which I heard on the 3rd floor above you, - quite negatively. Writing about this here I hope comes into conversation with your email a little, and re thinking about 319 Juniata Court emotionally somehow (for me), and in terms of your imminent potential departure. And then after Dad was impaired, in around 2007, when he fell on the driveway coming out of the garage, almost dramatically - re Lear again - still linger. Dad was so smart, even after his 2 injuries (subdural hematomas). And yet even with Dad's rage, and what I'd call too his 'prickly pearness,' and the injuries he sustained in 2004 in Belize on Semester Sea, he was able in 2006 and 2007 (when I was living in Pittsburgh), with restorative Yoga poses, modified to what he could do, was able too to elicit the relaxation response, - a kind of meditation, or inner releasing action - in that house. All thinking and writing a bit psychoanalytically here, and loosely informed by a Lacanian use of language.
If you were to move anywhere near to where C.M. lives (although ... ), i.e. near the Unitarian Church, you'd also be near the Carnegie Museum, C.M.U., Pitt, and with great bus lines to get downtown to hear symphony music, for example. All this area is kind of in a center of culture for Pittsburgh, on Pittsburgh's 5th Avenue, and both very social, and interestingly urban, with many students and young people not far away and around. And I think Grandpa Sandy Brown worked in that building across from Heinz Chapel for a while when he was at Carnegie Tech (in the 1920s?), or similar.
Glad you "Saw a wonderful performance of King Lear at the now defunct Carrie Furnace site, a remarkably impressive place to stage that play.  Inspired..." and glad you're thinking through ... , M!

Reed Prof. Michael Pitts' research -
"will use non-invasive techniques such as electroencephalography and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to compare conscious and unconscious processing without the use of self-report. They hope these experiments will provide evidence to support or challenge some of the leading theories of perceptual awareness, such as Global Neuronal Workspace TheoryIntegrated Information Theory, and Higher-Order Thought Theory."

And further, from Prof Michael Pitt's Reed profile - https://www.reed.edu/faculty-profiles/profiles/pitts-michael.html -

"My primary research interests center around the search for the neural substrates of consciousness. In psychology and cognitive neuroscience, it is generally accepted that most of what the brain does, it does so automatically, unconsciously. Because we have conscious experiences, however, some aspects of what the brain does must result in our subjective awareness of the world and of our own thoughts and feelings. A key unanswered question that my research seeks to resolve is: How does brain activity differ during conscious versus unconscious processing of objects and events in our world? To address this question, the primary strategy I use is to compare brain activity elicited by the same physical stimulus (typically visual or auditory) when it is perceived versus not-perceived, or perceived as X versus Y. In my lab we measure electrical brain activity non-invasively with EEG and use psychophysics, behavioral tasks, and eye tracking to manipulate attention and awareness in human subjects. My teaching relates to my research by providing students with a background in cognitive neuroscience methods, sensation and perception research, and specialized investigations into the neuroscience of consciousness and attention and consciousness research. "

* *
How it addresses the many facets of the subjective side (1st person experiences) of questions of how consciousness works in the brain (without self-reporting) isn't completely clear to me from these two web pages - https://www.reed.edu/reed-magazine/articles/2019/pitts-nsf-neural-mechanisms.html - https://www.reed.edu/faculty-profiles/profiles/pitts-michael.html - but it may lay further groundwork for addressing both self-reporting, as well as related questions of language (and potentially in many languages) ... if related experimental studies and techniques were interoperable with a realistic virtual earth, or a realistic virtual Harbin Hot Springs, for example, and even with brain wave headsets (such as Tan Le's, Brainfingers, or even something to be created with something like HUMM).

to Barbara

Turned on my T-Mobile Hot Spot (and saved further the BPPE document I was working on with Larry) and found too ...

Yoga With a Herniated Disk

While your back pain persists, do not bend forward past 90 degrees with straight knees.Avoid all seated forward bends.Avoid rounding your back.If a pose causes any pain, tingling, or numbness, stop immediately.
Yoga With a Herniated Disk - Yoga Journal
https://www.yogajournal.com/practice/yoga-with-a-herniated-disk

When doing yoga with a herniated disc, common sense is your best friend and guide.

Do not attempt any asanas while you are in the acute stage of the herniation. ...Begin with gentle, slow and easy asanas. ...Do not try to work through pain. ...Back bends are very helpful.
Herniated Discs: Yoga Can Help, But Be Careful – Sociologically.net
https://sociologically.net/herniated-discs-yoga-can-help-but-be-careful/

All of this makes much sense ... Have you done much Yoga asana? (Coincidentally, I just did standing poses this morning, and inverted poses this afternoon - head stand on 2 chairs, and should stand ... quite enjoyably ... and re too my R ear Eustachian Tube Dysfunction). Yoga asana helps one relearn how to work with one's body in my experience, and from what I've learned. I come back to Dona Holleman's self-published books "Yoga Syllabus for Teacher and Student," and its companion book "Asana in Photo" for my practice.

Cheers, Scott

Yay, Barbara ... glad you're moving, re back challenges ...

(What I personally found great about Dona Holleman's "Yoga Syllabus for Teacher and Student" and "Asana in Photo" is that practicing asana this way freed me from Yoga teachers and Yoga culture in many ways, and yet gave me the benefits of doing asana which are movement therapies; and because I had a good practice, thanks to these books, when I went through the 2 year Iyengar Yoga Institute SF certificate program around 90-91, I was able to complete this in a year, instead of two. Am happy to lend them to you for your own purposes, if ever you're interested! I appreciate the independence and even the freedom they offer).
Glad you're exercising, and have found helpful therapists and approaches! And doing well enough to listen to Joni Mitchell!
(Heading north to Oregon tomorrow, back late the following week, so I won't be at SCD OpenBand this Monday ... Mentioned that you were having back issues yesterday evening as well).
Cheers, Scott- scottmacleod.com

Blue iguana: Mentoring questions, Dear John Hennessy, Professor, as chairman of Alphabet/Google, and former President of Stanford * * * "WUaS - Collaborating with Stanford?, 3 online teaching approaches" ~ http://youtu.be/0-JgQoUu-qo ~ FROM World Universit

Dear John,
I'm writing to follow up on my mentoring email inquiry of May 18th, 2019, and am seeking in an ongoing way - as I write the state of California's BPPE licensing application forms for World University and School - to ask if you'd please consider becoming a mentor to me at World Univ & Sch, (and re a possible mentoring program even), and also, for example, with regards to delineating a faculty-administration organization flowchart (re BPPE item 5) - https://www.bppe.ca.gov/forms_pubs/approval_nonaccredited.pdf - (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IMqiHn0x6WsASDepW3GHYqfWA7gPl2y9uu1BU6Yiqa0/edit?usp=sharing). Your presidential experience and knowledge here re mentoring and university institutional grown are remarkable.
And since the $250,000 National Science Foundation grant that WUaS applied for more than a year ago, and thought World Univ & Sch had gotten, but then was told we hadn't gotten, hasn't come through (yet?), - with monies budgeted to pay the BPPE fees, as well as to begin the accreditation process for online Bachelor, Ph.D. Law and M.D. degrees in each of all ~200 countries' official / main languages (probably beginning with WASC Senior), and to hire graduate student instructors (Stanford graduate students hopefully) to teach 'sections' to the CC-4 MIT OCW faculty in video in something like Google group video Hangouts / Google Education (which WUaS is in) - I'm writing too to inquire if you could potentially please mentor me with regards too to securing the $5,000 BPPE fee, and possibly even the whole WUaS NSF grant for $250,000 itself. Harvard Law Professor Charles Nesson's JuryX course, which I took, also offers another model of synchronous / asynchronous / conversation-in-group-video 'classrooms' https://online-learning.harvard.edu/course/juryx-deliberations-social-change (https://twitter.com/_eon_) which could be very useful for students leading busy lives and studying from their homes in all ~200 countries. Check out too, for example, the "Materials Science" wiki subject for open teaching and learning - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Materials_Science -(https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects), and see too the MIT OCW here that students will eventually take for credit. Major online WUaS Universities will emerge here in ~200 nation states - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States (in their official languages), and wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 8k  languages + https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages.
As a mentor and Stanford professor and former Stanford president, I'm also writing you to inquire about my becoming a professor at Stanford. As an anthropologist, sociologist and educator, I teach about the information technology revolution, as well as about actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs (and a single realistic virtual earth, ethnographically. Becoming a professor at Stanford might also facilitate my severing ties formally with the WUaS Press / Corp - as founder and president / acting president of both wings: A) 501 c 3 World University and School, and B) the for profit general stock company the WUaS Corporation / Press - and re questions of conflict of interest, for example, especially if Stanford could help grow the B) WUaS Corp in ~200 countries' official languages and ~7111 living languages (and I continued to grow online A) World University and School in ~200 countries' official languages and ~7111 living languages); WUaS Press / Corporation wrote its Articles of Incorporation using an AI chat bot I learned about in a Stanford Law CodeX presentation, and it worked very well, and WUaS successfully incorporated as a second wing of WUaS).
In inquiring with you, John - as professor, as chairman of Alphabet/Google, and former President of Stanford - if you would mentor World University and School and me (in an email of Saturday, May 18th, and after a Stanford Entrepreneurial series' talk by Chip Conley, who mentioned this and mentioned a possible 3 week wait), I'm curious - at a key moment of connecting our "front end" WUaS MediaWiki with our "back end" Wikidata/Wikibase, in Wikipedia's 300 languages, for matriculating students and volunteer Universitians, and in planning for wiki teachers and learners in all 7,111 living languages to plan for all 7.5 billion people on the planet -  to explore too your mentorship re developing a single cryptocurrency backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks and distributed partly via UBI experiments while planning this too for all 7.5 billion people, - and newly defined as an 'assistive technology.' And would it be possible to plan for this not only with Google Plus+ for all 7.5 billion people, conceptually, but also with Intuit Quickbooks and TurboTax too, in ~200 countries' languages re taxation questions in all ~200 nation states - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States and all 7k living languages https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages
With regards to a brand new Academic Press at World University and School - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html - the WUaS Press (of which I'm the publisher), planned with machine translation in all 7, 111 known living languages+ (conceptually like Google Translate) I'll be bringing now my 3 books to the Reed College Reunions' Marketplace -

See, too, "14 planned WUaS revenue streams" - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - re both wings of WUaS.
In currently licensing World Univ & Sch with the state of California's BPPE, WUaS is seeking to matriculate our 2nd online undergraduate class of potentially ~500 students to begin even this autumn(leading to further focus on these BPPE licensing questions, and then accreditation).
So, in writing to ask if you'd please consider becoming a mentor to me at World Univ & Sch could I please ask you about your thinking about organizing the relationship between faculty and administrators per item 5a https://www.bppe.ca.gov/forms_pubs/approval_nonaccredited.pdf (and https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IMqiHn0x6WsASDepW3GHYqfWA7gPl2y9uu1BU6Yiqa0/edit?usp=sharing ), and further to inquire how best to explore developing a potential mentoring relationship with you?
Much more about World University and School as a global university here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/global%20university - as well.
World University and School seeks to become the online Harvard, Stanford, MIT of the Internet, and in ~200 nation states and 7k languages, and Stanford's excellence and your remarkable thinking could help inform this growth story of the Internet in so many great ways. Thank you.

Fiddlenecks: Re: [Air-L] Query on supportive teen online affinity groups * * * World University and School is seeking in particular to study academically questions of online mental wellness for teens, - e.g. https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool...

Hi Mimi (Cecilia, and Association of Internet Researchers, AoIR),

Thanks for your great research focus on teen online affinity networks.

I'm wondering if you might like to focus on questions of exploring 'building out' youth online communities to promote positive social support and mental wellness through digital channels. World Univ & Sch seeks to build online high school degree communities (potentially International Baccalaureate-centric - e.g. https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/WUaS_International_Baccalaureate_Diploma_and_Programme) first in the US in English and then also in each of ~200 countries' official / main languages, and as we eventually license (BPPE) and accredit too. And as a wiki, World University and School is also seeking to explore related questions with regards to online teen 'Universitian' (wiki-editors, teachers and learners) at World University and School, in all kinds of wiki subjects - e.g. https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - again for wiki-open teaching and learning. (I don't know the teen Wikipedia communities in these regards). So, teens in African countries, for example, would be central to this in some years, after the English-speaking (MIT OCW-centric online High School - https://ocw.mit.edu/high-school/ - again potentially I.B.) begins to grow. Conceptually, such teen groups and channels would be in something like Google Education, and even Google + Plus social media site which was closed in April of 2019 (if G+ was re-vamped for this, for example).

I think these areas would address both of your questions:

Two questions:
• Do you know of online groups, communities, networks, or influencers who serve these groups of teens, and who might be possible partners for this kind of effort?
• Are there channels and forms of teen online participation that might be fruitful avenues for reaching vulnerable teens? For example, young women of color in college might form GroupMe or FB groups for social support, but I’m not certain if a similar practice exists at the high school level.

World University and School is seeking in particular to study academically questions of online mental wellness for teens, - e.g. https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Psychotherapy (again in potentially all countries' main languages) and with regards too to young women of color in high school.

And, further, World University and School is seeking to create a realistic virtual earth with avatar bots (am thinking Second Life in Google Streetview so where 10-person Google Hangouts' participants could become realistic avatar bots of teens, and in a 'digital gaming' like way too). I'm not yet clear how the digital teen space in such a single realistic virtual earth (think Google Streetview / Maps / Earth / Tensorflow with avatar bots / Translate+) will be different from the adult space here, and even re my related actual-virtual comparative ethnographic research on Harbin Hot Springs, and in planning for a realistic virtual Harbin at the cellular and atomic levels too (~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~).

Thank you so much, Mimi, for digging in on this, and looking forward in many ways to communicating further about teen online affinity networks ... to promote positive social support and mental wellness through digital channels.

Best, Scott

The goal is to work with networks involving teens (ages 13-18) who experience disproportionate amounts of  discrimination, trauma, and stress, and are not currently well-served by more conventional mental health services. We’re particularly interested in serving girls of color and subgroups (eg. immigrant, Latinx, and Muslim teens), and LGBTQIA+ teens.

Hi Kai,
How are you? I hope this finds you very well! I just heard Gary Snyder talk at Stanford on Wednesday - https://arts.stanford.edu/event/83336/ - and was touched once again. He's so clear and articulate at 89 years of age. (This talk, with two other people in it, should be available for free on iTunes soon -

Am heading to the Reed Reunion (June Th6/ F7/ Sa8) and would love to come visit you as I zigzag my way north. Will you be around on Wednesday, June 5th - perhaps in a new home, deeper into northern California worlds? Might it be a good time to connect? And might you head to the Reed reunion too? (Lodging at Reed I just found out is $50 for all 3 nights). I can offer you a ride north, but am heading to eastern Oregon afterward to visit family, so can't offer you a ride south.
Will be bringing now 3 books to the Reed Marketplace -

Hi M,
Following up on this Robot Vacuum idea in this acquisition thread:
Samsung Robot Vacuum could be a good acquisition for Cuttyhunk even now, albeit a bit expensive ... (and I haven't seen a comparative Consumer Reports review with other vacuums)
My place would be so good for a robot vacuum from Samsung (per Consumer Reports), but waiting for them to add water for mopping too! :)
Samsung Robot Vacuum idea (which top CR lists) and which could work pretty well in my place in a few years https://youtu.be/g4qx6SY_Mig I can imagine 'Lego Robotics' builds playing w these. Just got a Kaiser Permanente test result back in email. Glad to have KP health insurance, but would love to teach at Stanford (and gave access too to Stanford MDs)... Haven't seen my new primAry care physician yet for the once a year free preventive check up, but plan to (and he went to Stanford as undergrad). The test result is emblematic of my having 'acquired' KP insurance ...
In looking at the history of test results in my KP Profile (since 2014), am curious how such data could feed into Google's Stanford's Duke's Project Baseline  ... and then even for genetic engineering and longevity questions eventually ... while I've blogged a fair amount about Project Baseline here's a description https://www.ajc.com/news/google-launches-000-person-study-predict-how-and-when-people-get-sick/j145e8I9Tyx4mECpHJNmYO/ ...
Project Baseline https://youtu.be/ufOORB6ZNaA
Would be great to become a Stanford professor ...
Am missing Cuttyhunk some, and looking forward to heading there at end of July, and seeing the Robbs too (hoping to make reservation and email Dick and Lucy soon). Were Hilary and I to connect further, would like to explore living closer to Cuttyhunk (Pittsburgh, Boston, Connecticut, RI, etc).
Have some hopes that the $250,000 National Science Foundation grant might still come through, esp having met in person Congresswoman Anna Eshoo at Stanford Law recently (thanks too to Law Prof Barbara Van Schewick, I think)... (Grants.gov password updates still come thru. Maybe I'll see Jim C a Reed friend in a week too, somehow in these regards, hunch-wise). Becoming a Stanford Professor would be great in these regards too.BPPE licensing application form is at top of my to do list today. I have Tanya re possible Ph.D., Scottish students, California & US students (and English speaking students in all 200 countries first) in mind in these regards.

Red trillium: Wiki-Libraries in 7,111 known living languages, building out from Wikidata's (Wikipedia's) 300 languages?, Wikidata Q-item ex. for Dawkin's "An Appetite for Wonder," How students can add books

Hi Hilary,

Thanks for your email. And thanks for the opportunity to give a 5 minute presentation on World University and School Libraries at the close of the Wikidata Affinity Group June 18th meeting (and also re our donation of World University and School to Wikidata as "back end" for co-development in 2015, and getting the WUaS MediaWiki "front end" in 2017, but which aren't yet linked).
Glad too to talk with Regina a little about the Wikidata Affinity Group, Hilary. We talked before an amazing Tibetan Buddhist art presentation with 50 Gigabyte photos on that incredible 16 panel wall size screen in the Rumsey Maps Center - https://arts.stanford.edu/event/83273/.
I mentioned to Regina how Q-items are a basic unit of Wikidata (and Linked Open Data re your LD4 grant), and how we've linked a few open free online libraries + here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Library_Resources (which is an example of the WUaS MediaWiki "front end") - and how this will easily grow into each of all ~300 of Wikipedia's / Wikimedia's / Wikidata's languages. And WUaS seeks to grow further into each of all 7,111 known living languages, and people will be able to wiki create new related Library wiki SUBJECT pages at WUaS (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects) as well (so these WUaS Library Resources' pages may well grow into the 1000s+ and differentially in each of all of Wikipedia's ~300 languages early on). Also mentioned how great it would be if, say, Stanford students traveling to their academic field sites worldwide could add videos or photos, for example, of whole books (not copyrighted) to such libraries. (Not sure how all of this will articulate with a universal translator with machine translation are re an academic press for both poetry - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1133107632275746816 - and STEM, for example, either; also not sure how 7111 languages will fit in with Wikidata/Wikimedia's lexicographical project as data (or "back end") either, and re a universal translator, conceptually like Google Translate).
Here's an example of a book and its Q-item, and is potentially a model for WUaS Libraries' as well for individual books (not necessarily in Wikipedia, but in new ways) ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Appetite_for_Wonderhttps://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q13107558 (Check out Chinese and Spanish at the top here, and which are WUaS's pilot languages, in our très multi-lingual WUaS project). (Not yet sure how WikiCite will fit in here either).
Am interested in WUaS facilitating and making it easy for a student, or a traveling scholar, to add a book in photo, or video, or a map eg https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/05/flying-gurnard-stanford-launch-event.html ...
Thanks and looking forward to the June 4th Meeting with Christine and Marc at Harvard, and to communicate further about this WUaS presentation.
Thanks, Scott Will add further some of these ideas here - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1y-5ZzW699d5IAZnBBIuc9grhF04z0UUpZq-o6ihZe4Q/edit - but may not explore on June 18th anything about Wikdiata Affinity Group libraries at the cellular and atomic levels for brain science, for example. Thank you.

Re: How students can add books +

The question I approximately asked: how a Chinese scholar on your project might add a smartphone photo, say of a map (in Chinese) at the museum of the Xi'an Terracotta Warriors as a kind of mausoleum even, to your platform is interesting potentially for your colleagues and other students who might seek to extend the parameters of your project with time, or come into conversation with it. If such a photographer/scholar/student could also then geo-rectify this, and then subsequently overlay this with other geo-rectified maps and compare, - your data on related projects would also grow significantly with time.

(For example, with regards to my actual-virtual ethnographic field site with many parallels to your project, I added this 2001 photo of the Harbin gate house around 2009 to Google Street View here - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Harbin+Hot+Springs/@38.7860806,-122.6518315,3a,109.6y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipOR33JEA3qzAchuAOEFPss-U_w6cXPc-OsiNgSE!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipOR33JEA3qzAchuAOEFPss-U_w6cXPc-OsiNgSE%3Dw203-h153-k-no!7i576!8i436!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xde57c3ab0ecaa2c9!8m2!3d38.7860806!4d-122.6518315 - as an example of what could get very involved machine learning-wise if people were many maps, or even adding video of maps in your project). And I'll welcome people to add photos to a realistic virtual Harbin in Google Streetview (outside the Harbin gate, since Harbin doesn't allow photos on property, but also welcome people to add drawings of Harbin's pool area to this realistic virtual Harbin; see ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~).

Golden everlasting: Stanford - Tejaswini Niranjana: Subjectivity and Sociality in Mumbai's Musicophilia * * * Stanford - 'Murals of Tibet: a talk with Thomas Laird' ... incredible 50 gigabyte pixel photos of Tibetan Buddhist didactic art, and your amazing

Dear Tejaswini,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tejaswini_Niranjanahttps://southasia.stanford.edu/events/tejaswini-niranjana-subjectivity-and-sociality-mumbais-musicophiliahttp://cscs.res.in/Members/people-cscs/faculty-cscs/tejaswini-niranjana

thanks for your inspiring research - https://events.stanford.edu/events/818/81834/ - and Stanford talk just now.
Am curious to stay in touch about exploring anthropologically and ethnographically specific kinds of Hindustani-music musicophilia (ecstatic, loving bliss neurochemistry?) on the ground in Mumbai, for example, as well as potentially virtually in a realistic virtual Mumbai / realistic virtual earth (am thinking Google Streetview with Time Slider / Maps / Earth), where we could add, for example, the two videos you shared, and even re Google AI - https://twitter.com/GoogleAI/status/1131615568753115136 - and machine learning. (See too the Tweets at the top of this WUaS Twitter feed - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarth?src=hash). In what ways could we begin to explore in the “What breath control” video, questions of specific individual's unique musicophilias (and even re all kinds of qualities of 'affective states')?
Am doing and am interested in doing further related ethnographic work with regards to ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - and with regards to my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' project and even with brain research re questions of 'Subjectivity and Sociality in Mumbai's Musicophilia' ... and socially online (and even re questions of the Harbin Hot Springs' warm pool and potentially musicophilia and more).
How might we best communicate further about this?
Thank you again for your far-reaching interests and focus.
Thank you, Scott

P.S.Here's what I have in mind by a 3D interactive realistic virtual universe / earth and at the atomic / cellular levels in something like Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth / Translate +++ : Visit the Harbin Hot Springs' gate here, and "walk" "4 miles" down the road to "amble" around Middletown, CA: http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~
And to show how we can all add data to this ginormous multimedia project, I added this photo of the Harbin gate house to Google Street View here - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Harbin+Hot+Springs/@38.7860806,-122.6518315,3a,109.6y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipOR33JEA3qzAchuAOEFPss-U_w6cXPc-OsiNgSE!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipOR33JEA3qzAchuAOEFPss-U_w6cXPc-OsiNgSE%3Dw203-h153-k-no!7i576!8i436!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xde57c3ab0ecaa2c9!8m2!3d38.7860806!4d-122.6518315 - as an example of what could get very involved machine learning-wise if people were adding video of all kinds of musicophilia.

* * * Murals of Tibet: a talk with Thomas Laird

Dear Thomas,

Thanks for your very far-reaching 'Murals of Tibet: a talk with Thomas Laird' talk yesterday at the Rumsey Maps' Center - https://events.stanford.edu/events/832/83273/ - with its incredible 50 gigabyte pixel photos of Tibetan Buddhist didactic art, and your amazing narrative about this.
When the Tibetan gate opened on that 16 panel screen to reveal what was behind it - both a walk way on the left, and an avatar teacher on the right - it made me think of the Harbin Hot Springs' gate house (my ethnographic field site for actual-virtual anthropological comparison) and wonder how too we could go further with 50 GB pixel video that we could all add to a realistic virtual earth for something (a new social theory method) I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - and patch it all together, and even 50 GB pixel video at the cellular and atomic levels for brain science (big data project), in addition to humanities research.
And your sharing, and even teaching, about Buddhism (and Yoga too) via the art you photographed is so great - and especially re your connection with the Dalai Lama (just found this - https://youtu.be/_pRJ5RYQ4qI). All very mind-expanding. Thank you.
Here's what I have in mind by a 3D interactive realistic virtual universe / earth and at the atomic / cellular levels too in something like Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth / Translate +++ : Visit the Harbin Hot Springs' gate here, and "walk" "4 miles" down the road to "amble" around Middletown, CA: http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~

And how might we communicate further about possible collaboration? In developing World Univ & Sch, which is like Wikipedia in ~300 languages with CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare in 5 languages (and seeking to license for free-to-students' online degrees in many languages, first with the state of California), am seeking to create such a realistic virtual earth as art, humanities and STEM field sites and classrooms.
All the best, Scott
