Nancy Pelosi Says She’s Really Scared…

Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Monday that she feared for the future of American democracy if Republicans took control of the House in the midterms but claimed that Democrats would pick up seats in November’s elections.
Poll after poll has suggested that her party is in for a humiliating result, at a time when President Joe Biden’s ratings are at historic lows and his domestic agenda is stalled.
Republicans need only to pick up five districts to take back the House.

Biden to force charter schools to close

A former Department of Education official said a proposed regulation restricting federal funding for public charter schools could force a number of schools to close their doors.
On March 11, the Biden administration’s Department of Education announced a new regulatory proposal regarding the use of federal funds for public charter schools that places significant restrictions on the disbursement of funding to the schools while also mandating new demographic reporting requirements.
Robert Eitel, a former Department of Education official and the president and founder of the Defense of Freedom Institute, told the Washington Examiner in an interview that if the rule were adopted, then “it [would] have a chilling effect on new charter schools and make it difficult for existing ones to continue.”
“There’s been an ideological realignment within the Democratic Party that is reflected in this in these priorities,” Eitel said. “This is confirmation that the Democratic Party has shifted hard to the left on education issues and that they’re no longer supportive of the charter school.”

BLMish Activist Pleads Not Guilty to Fraud
On Tuesday, Monica Cannon-Grant, a progressive Boston activist who gained prominence in the wake of George Floyd’s death in 2020 and involvement with protests associated with the city’s Black Lives Matter movement, pleaded not guilty to “defrauding donors to their nonprofit Violence in Boston (VIB), fraudulently obtaining pandemic-related unemployment benefits and making false statements to a mortgage lender,” WBUR reported. Cannon-Grant’s husband, Clark, is also accused of several crimes and also pled not guilty on Tuesday.Earlier in March, The Daily Wire reported that Massachusetts U.S. Attorney Rachael Rollins’ office arrested and charged Cannon-Grant and her husband in part related to a “scheme to defraud donors to their non-profit, VIB.”The Boston Herald added that prosecutors “allege the couple diverted charitable donations to VIB to their personal expenses, including nail salons, restaurants, food deliveries, hotel reservations, car rentals and auto repairs, among other things, according to prosecutors.”“The defendants did not disclose to other VIB directors or VIB’s bookkeepers or financial auditors that they had used VIB funds for such payments,” the U.S. Attorney’s office said in a statement announcing.According to the Her …

Why Canada picked F‑35

WASHINGTON: In 2015, the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came to office promising to cancel a planned purchase of the F‑35 joint strike fighter. Seven years later, the Trudeau government has decided the F‑35 is the best solution for Canada’s needs.
The announcement, made Monday by Minister of Public Services and Procurement Filomena Tassi and Defense Minister Anita Anand, serves as a culmination of years of political wrangling between Canadian political parties and lobbying from US industry.
The planned procurement of 88 jets could be under contract before the end of the year, with negotiations between Ottawa and prime contractor Lockheed Martin set to begin this week. Canada has budgeted $19 billion Canadian (roughly $15 billion US) for the purchase, which could see jets delivered as soon as 2025 to replace the aging CF-18 fleet.
The procurement minister also noted that Lockheed is not locked in as the winner here. Should the company, during negotiations, fail to come to terms with Canada on issues such as pricing, delivery assurances and risk reduction agreements, then Canada could make a deal with runner-up Saab instead. (A third option, Boeing, was previously knocked from the competition.)
For several months the process has followed an in-depth analysis phase, with Tassi saying she and Anand were so kept out of the loop that they only found out the selection this morning.
“The politics was taken right out of the process and that was really important to us,” said Tassi.
That is particularly important given the massive role politics played with the F‑35, originally agreed to as a sole-source deal by the government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. When Trudeau’s Liberal party defeated Harper’s Conservative party, the new prime minister rode in with a campaign pledge to cancel the buy.
Tassi and Anand both fielded questio …

Russia — Ukraine: End of the Beginning?

First Signs of Hope the Russia – Ukraine War Could End – but More Pointless Fighting Likely: The first major steps towards ending the 2022 Russo-Ukrainian War came into focus on Tuesday when both sides emerged from the negotiating table in Istanbul, Turkey with each making fairly major concessions. As with any negotiations in a wartime situation, however, each side will likely continue to press its military on the battlefield to extract the best negotiating position possible over its adversary.Since both the Russians and the Ukrainians suffer from each passing day, it is a race to see where the negotiations will reach equilibrium whereby each side feels it has gotten all it can of its preferred outcomes, acknowledging to itself that any further delay will only increase its cost without providing any further benefit. After emerging from the Istanbul meetings, the Ukraine delegation announced it was willing to “defer” any discussion on Crimea for 15 years, and likewise will not demand an immedia …

Soldiers disturbed radioactive dust in Chernobyl
Breadcrumb Trail Links PMN Politics PMN News Author of the article: Article content LONDON — Russian soldiers who seized the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster drove their armored vehicles without radiation protection through a highly toxic zone called the “Red Forest,” kicking up clouds of radioactive dust, workers at the site said. The two sources said soldiers in the convoy did not use any anti-radiation gear. The second Chernobyl employee said that was “suicidal” for the soldiers because the radioactive dust they inhaled was likely to cause internal radiation in their bodies. Article content Ukraine’s state nuclear inspectorate said on Feb. 25 there had been an increase in radiation levels at Chernobyl as a result of heavy military vehicles disturbing the soil. But until now, details of exactly what happened had not emerged. The two Ukrainian workers who spoke to Reuters were on duty when Russian tanks entered Chernobyl on Feb. 24 and took control of the site, where staff are still responsible for the safe storage of spent nuclear fuel and supervising the concrete-encased remains of the reactor that blew up in 1986. Both men said they had witnessed Russian tanks and other armored vehicles moving through the Red Forest, which is the most radioactively contaminated part of the zone around Chernobyl, around 100 km (65 miles) north of Kyiv. Ukraine Is Taking Back Towns

Ukraine Recaptures Two Towns As Russian Troops Retreat – Last week, we reported that Russian troops were shifting their focus away from capturing the Ukrainian capital city Kyiv and focusing resources on “liberating” the pro-Russian region of Donbas in the East. On Monday, Ukrainian troops not only recaptured the Irpin suburb of Kyiv in the West, but also the town of Trostyanets in the North East.Troops Recapture Irpin, UkraineThe Mayor of Irpin, a suburb of Kyiv, confirmed on Monday that the suburb had been liberated from Russian control.
“Today Irpin is liberated. Now the sweep is underway. I want to thank the servicemen of the [Ukraine Armed Forces], thank the territorial defense, thank the national police and special police units, the main intelligence department,” Mayor Oleksandr Markushin said.
Controlling Irpin was essential for Russian forces if they intended to capture Kyiv, as it is on the Western side of the Irpin river that troops will need to cross if they intend to approach the capital city from the West.

Democrat Flips To GOP After Having Major Realization

Months before the crucial midterm elections, which many pollsters believe will be very favorable to Republicans, another Democrat has announced they are switching parties and joining the GOP.
November’s midterms are viewed as so crucial because if Republicans win at least the House, Nancy Pelosi will no longer be the Speaker and could potentially retire. Also, Republicans winning back the House and/or the Senate would likely be enough for Donald Trump to run for president again in 2024.
Democratic council member Harriet Holman in Dorchester County, South Carolina, announced that she has switched political parties and will be running for re-election as a Republican.
