Looking forward to TGS soon and some details about the sequel to my debut novel!~
Hello once again to the beloved readers of the Mofu-Blog! The world's laziest novelist of all time will now grace you with their presence!
So as you all know, this unusual writer of yours happened to come across the long-anticipated PC release of Capcom's Monster Hunter World, only to return as a skeletal husk after succumbing to hundreds of hours of non-stop questing... This of course coincided with the summer event of Overwatch and well... I might have been slacking off way too much as of late!
Have no worries for I have returned to regularly maintaining a proper working schedule (which will likely not be properly maintained at all) after taking a small respite from the world of writing.
I can happily announce that I am in the process of outlining the 2nd volume of my lovely Debut Fluffy Weird yet heartwarming Gender Bender Romantic Comedy Light Novel series My Best Friend is Dense Harem Main Character-kun, But Why am I the Heroine?! (I know, the title is way too short, right?) I can also safely announce that this outline will totally go off the rails as soon as I begin writing the actual volume! For a sneak preview, although I mentioned this in volume 1's lengthy afterword, the 2nd volume will focus primarily on the totally normal school life of Tomo and Dense Harem Main Character-kun, nothing out of the ordinary in this story, nope! There will indeed be a prologue this time around and the cover I have in mind will capture the absurdity of the situation that this lovable goofy pair finds themselves in for sure! Many new equally over-the-top and lovable characters will be introduced in this long awaited sequel as well! In fact, some of them have already been mentioned in the 1st volume...! Ehhhhhh?!? Yes.
With that exciting announcement out of the way, I am also finishing the rest of my newest series My Apartment Is Haunted by the Ghost of My Dead Childhood Best Friend Who Likes Me! while simultaneously outlining my main novel series! Yes, I am quite busy these days! The 2nd part will be out very soon and is filled with the trademark fluff, please look forward to it.
Lastly, upcoming is Tokyo Game Show 2018 (TGS) and as a longtime fan of Capcom's Ace Attorney series (if you like reading good stories with lovable characters, then I highly recommend giving the first game a try!) I am very excited to hear about the surprise they have in store during their panel on the 22nd! All I know is that the number 7 better be on the menu...
Anyway, thank you all for taking the time out of your busy days to read this bizarre blog and I'll try to stop slacking off so much! As always, I really appreciate everything you folks have done to support me: whether it's a follow, purchase or a positive review, all feedback is truly a blessing for a small aspiring light novelist such as I! Thank you all and stay safe!
Until next time!~

Wahoo!~ They approved my request for an update and Animal Crossing 2019!
Hello again, it is I, your long lost imouto-chan who has been worried sick about you, ever since you moved away from your loving family. How are you doing? Are your studies progressing? Are you properly resting and eating well? I’m worried and miss you…
......Pffftttt!!!
Muahahaha, you thought it was surprise caring imouto-chan, but it was I, lazy light novelist extraordinaire, SHINTARO MOFUJIN! Fufufu! Ah, but please do take care to not overexert yourself and eat properly! I have returned from an in-depth conversation with a Kirby-of-the-Color-Green-san about the recent trend of weight loss isekai stories in the light novel medium and have some exciting updates to talk about!
First of all, I’m pleased to announce that Part 2 of my newest paranormal rom com short story series My Apartment Is Haunted by the Ghost of My Dead Childhood Best Friend Who Likes Me! is officially OUT! This one focuses on how Haru and Aiga first met, in addition to some more fluffy slice of life scenes and answers to questions that might’ve been lingering on your mind. “Why was writer Shintaro Mofujin pretending to be my imaginary imouto?” That, I cannot say for sure.
In addition, I watched Nintendo’s latest direct and was absolutely elated when they ended the presentation with the announcement of a totally new Animal Crossing game, slated for 2019 on the Switch! Still… that was quite the way to reveal it, right? An Isabelle Super Smash reveal followed by a look into Tom Nook’s depressing personal life in that dark, barely lit room? Hmm… Anyhow, my mom and I have been fans of the series since the original gamecube version came out! (Of course, the real original was the N64 one, but that one never came over to the west, so for all purposes here, it’s gamecube!) It really is a nostalgic series for me, the real-time clock, the lovable characters with fun dialogue and the real need to collect every item imaginable! Perhaps the most hardcore game that appears to be casual on the surface… Ahhh, it’s probably one of my favorite video game franchises ever, I’m very happy that there will be more to come! Also, TGS 2018 is coming soon, which means that the Ace Attorney news is on its way! 7 is the magical number!~

With that out of the way, if anyone was wondering why I put off writing this blog entry with the whole ‘waiting for an email' excuse, it’s because of this announcement! Now this newbie of a novelist assumed that ebooks on Amazon were similar to apps in that once an update is pushed, that update would go to EVERYONE. Unfortunately, that is not the case when it comes to the distribution of VIRTUAL paper and ink! Basically, if you purchased an ebook on say, launch day, that is the version that you will keep, even if the one on the store has been modified. Ah, but it makes sense if you think about it when it comes to readers having personal highlights, notes and bookmarks on their copy and changes would mess those up, so there you have it! On the flip side, authors can request to make these changes available to readers as long as they do a proper write-up of modifications that were made! Well, I’m happy to say that not only did I submit a request for my debut novel, but it was approved earlier this morning!
That’s right! Since I was already in the process of outlining the 2nd volume, I went back and reread the entire 1st volume and have made improvements and minor fixes that will certainly improve the overall reading experience! Obviously, no changes to plot or characters, (that’s just…you can’t do that, c-can you…?) but some enhancements like a properly functioning table of contents page for easier navigation, obnoxious typo fixes, inclusion of the volume number and more! Now all readers that already own the 1st installment of my Debut Fluffy Weird yet heartwarming Gender Bender Romantic Comedy Light Novel series My Best Friend is Dense Harem Main Character-kun, But Why am I the Heroine?! can receive this Quality Update starting TODAY! Unfortunately, this is classified as a “minor update” in their terms, so you guys will only be notified of its existence via this blog, but hey, that’s why you’re here, yes? In case you’re unfamiliar with how to receive this free, no fuss, no coconuts update, I can provide you with an explanation! On your Amazon page, under the ‘Let Us Help You’ heading on the bottom of your page, click Manage Your Content and Devices and go over to my book which should now say ‘Update Available!’ Click it and tada, you now have a table of contents page and a slightly higher word count!
Speaking of Best Friend and Main Character-kun, the 2nd volume outline is going swimmingly well and I have all sorts of fun and heartwarming events planned! Look forward to it in a few months, I apologize for the wait, but life really does get busy and I will absolutely make it worth waiting for! The goal of course is to completely defeat the me from the past who didn’t even know how to implement a table of contents page… The fool has no chance of competing with this new and improved Mofujin! Muahahaha!!!
…Anyway, I am very happy that I could make this quality update available for all of you wonderful readers that have supported me from the beginning! Thank you so much for everything, you make this whole writing thing worth it and make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! Also, thanks to Amazon for being very helpful and quick with the process! Until next time, and be sure to grab the new update!~

It's HERE!
Welcome readers to the Mofu Blog, the only place where the laziest novelist of all time will grace you with their rare presence!
IT’S HERE!!! As mentioned in last week’s post, I have chosen a really talented artist who will handle the artwork for the future volumes of my main light novel series! Of course, we’re talking about my debut fluffy rom-com with a gender-bender twist, My Best Friend is Dense Harem Main Character-kun, But Why am I the Heroine?!
I’m pleased to announce that this complete overhaul of the first volume cover is now available for your viewing pleasure! I’m also proud to announce that the main illustrator of this project is… *drum* *drum* *drum* …Alice Vu! She’s an incredibly talented artist with a very, very promising future judging from how much love and dedication she put into this first assignment! For a small starting writer like myself, nothing makes me happier than seeing amazing artists bring these lovable characters to life and WOW did Alice go to town with these spectacular character designs!
Hiro is just as much of a generic looking dense harem protagonist as it gets, yet he was masterfully drawn with a hint of bishounen characteristics sprinkled in. As for the main heroine, Tomo, words cannot express how happy I am with how she turned out. Cute, fluffy, fluttery and tsundere have been magnificently blended and harmonized into perfection by a genius of the self-proclaimed moe moe kyun kyun mastery! Beautiful chestnut brown twin-tailed hair that glistens and reaches to the ankles, an adorable pout that demands your attention and frilly ribbons as far as the eyes can see, Tomo really does seem like main heroine material now, right? I am truly breathless in wonder and amazement that these are now the characters in my story!
Of course, we cannot forget the most meaningful and important addition on this cover… the in-universe cat mascot Neko Nyan-san! In the story, this cute yet generic looking cat thing is popular with girls and kids alike, and has been featured in a variety of clothing lines, anime, and music! As Tomo’s favorite character, he is also an important part of the story and seeing him on the cover was a real treat! Truly the manifestation of cute and lazy that he was always meant to be! Although my expectations were already high, Alice surpassed them multiple times and was really nice and diligent while painstakingly doing so. She really is good at this whole drawing thing and despite having no prior experience, even went to the trouble of doing all of the text placement on the cover! So many small details like contrasting eye colors for the main couple and much more have been integrated into this captivating piece.
This is a thank you to my official artist and you guys for all of the support you have lent me up until now! Although it’s selfish to ask for more, please continue to do so and I promise to give it my all to power on with the rest of the series! Chapter 1 of Volume 2 is now complete and it looks like you’ll all be able to read this anticipated sequel by Thanksgiving! In the meantime, please admire this amazing cover artwork while you wait and I’m sure the time will pass by very quickly! One more thing, if you’re as captivated by this cover as I, then please look at other works by this special artist in the links below! With that, I bid you all adieu!

Update on Volume 2's whereabouts!
Hello everyone! I hope this message finds you well! I just wanted to leave a quick update for the whereabouts of Volume 2 before I head off to parts unknown!
So, I did say that Volume 2 of My Best Friend is Dense Harem Main Character-kun, But Why am I the Heroine?! would release this month in my last entry, but unfortunately that’s simply not possible anymore. The biggest reason being that I’m actually moving in a few days and I want to be around when the sequel hits! Also, the cover isn’t finished just yet. Great artwork takes time and careful consideration, you know?
Now on the bright side: writing-wise, the 2nd volume is absolutely ready for release! I have read, formatted and proofread it several times over and even did so using text-to-speech as an assistant this time! The length is comparable to the original at over 61k words split into 5 chapters! In addition, I’m likely not going to have any internet access for a week or so due to circumstances being what they are, so there’s that too. With things as they currently stand, Volume 2 of Dense MC-kun is looking to release around next weekend (December 7th) and that’s if everything goes according to plan! The focus of the 2nd volume is the school life of MC-kun and Tomo. I really enjoyed writing this sequel and I hope that feeling is conveyed when it gets out there! I deeply apologize for the inconvenience if you wanted to read it this month, but sometimes these things happen. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
With that brief update out of the way, I want to thank everyone for your incredible support! October was the most successful month for this light novel series with the amazing new cover debuting and somehow November did even better! I’m very grateful that there are readers that enjoy this fluffy, but silly genderbender rom-com that my head conjured up years ago and I hope that you wonderful folks will stick with me for the rest of the journey! I’ve already started planning stuff out for Volume 3, you know? Volume 2 is on its way and I’ll let you know when it’s finally out!
Thank you for reading and I’ll see you when my internet is up and running! Until next time!~

Volume 2 of Dense Main Character-kun is OUT! Just in time for the holidays! Also, the silly origins of this beloved series!
Long time no see, everyone! I missed you all very much! Today is a very special day, here on the Mofu Blog! This is likely the lengthiest blog entry to date, so you might want to grab a cup of hot cocoa or something!
I’m more than pleased to announce that I’m finally finished with my moving arrangements and thankfully, the weather over here is quite lovely! Yup! Well, that’s it for this entry, happy holidays!~
Hmm? What? You had something else in mind? Nope, nothing here!
Pffttt… who am I fooling with this title?
Volume 2 of my Debut Fluffy Weird yet heartwarming Gender Bender Romantic Comedy Light Novel series My Best Friend is Dense Harem Main Character-kun, But Why am I the Heroine?! is out for all readers to enjoy! Aahhhhhh, you have no idea how much I’ve longed to say these words! It’s been far too long, so let’s get right into it!
Quite some time has passed since Volume 1 premiered back in July, right? Before we discuss details about the long-awaited sequel, let’s talk a little about the novel that started it all!
As mentioned in the lengthy afterword from the 1st book: Dense MC-kun was an idea that originally sprouted a few years back during my college days. I remember it quite fondly— I was a bit bummed out, because it was the night before fall semester began, so in order to bring up my spirits, I decided to watch anime! (Doesn’t everyone do that?) As someone who really enjoys cute fluffy rom-coms and slice-of-life shows, I chose to watch something that fit those two genres while still being widely well-received during that season.
That anime turned out to be Izumi Tsubaki’s famed Monthly Girl’s Nozaki-kun , a rom-com about an aspiring artist who finds herself in a manga assisting position with her crush after a series of hilarious misunderstandings. I absolutely adored it and I was so entranced by the lovable characters and over-the-top goofy humor that I marathoned the entirety of it in one sitting. It was quite the memorable experience and it was one of those magical moments that you try to recreate with other shows, but it just doesn’t happen when you force it. ...Yeah, in case you were wondering, I stayed up pretty late that evening, but fortunately, I believe I had classes in the afternoon the following day, therefore, it was not much of an issue.
Now, the reason why I suddenly brought up Nozaki-kun is because it is one of the biggest influences as to why I began writing this fluffy series of mine and started writing novels in general. Well, there’s a lot more reasons for the latter, but as for the former: there were several parts and skits in Nozaki-kun that were so hilarious that they made me literally laugh out loud, but one scene in particular stood out to me more so than the rest. If you’ve seen the show and read this story, then I think you might already know which one I’m thinking of. Of course, the skit that lead to me writing my very own light novel series was when the titular male lead Nozaki decided to play a visual novel game for inspiration after hitting a creative slump with his own in-universe shoujo manga series. Thinking about it, that’s incredibly appropriate considering our discussion right now. Wow, fate sure has a way of bringing things together…
Anyway, he plays this game along with his assistant and after trudging through several button taps and lines of dialogue, they come to a hilarious conclusion. They realize that the person who cares the most about the generic voiceless player character is his selfless best friend who was always by his side through thick and thin. Sympathizing with this thankless but wholesome character, the duo work together to give him his very own happy ending using skills from their manga work. At first, they’re conflicted about who they should match this character up with— who would bring him the most happiness? Of course, after seconds of careful consideration, the answer is as clear as can be. That special someone turns out to be the player character who he was willing to go the distance for!
I thought that this was such a fun bit, but it had me thinking about the concept of what would eventually become my very first light novel series. What if that super caring and considerate best friend of a dense harem protagonist were to find themselves as the main heroine one day? What if the side character who is constantly going out of their way to look after the lead from the sidelines was suddenly brought into the spotlight? How would a rom-com like that play out? How would it shake things up from your standard everyday harem story?
Often in harem series, it’s quite common for the protagonist to have a caring best friend like the one from that scene. For example: Clannad’s Sunohara, Nisekoi’s Shu, and Highschool DXD’s Kiba. (in this case, he considers him and Issei to be bff’s and author Ishibumi actually did genderbend him a few times into a cute girl for the giggles!) There are others out there, but you get the gist of it. I always felt like these types of characters got the short end of the stick despite how helpful they can be and just as Nozaki and Mikorin, I wanted to give one the happy ending they deserved! Thus, this novel series was conceived in my head, but only recently did it become a real story that could be read for everyone to enjoy. One night, I was bored more so than usual, so I randomly decided to try my hand at writing a synopsis for this interesting idea I had. Although it was rough, I was so enamored with the concept and brimming with inspiration that I somehow ended up with a complete manuscript after a few months of work, which would later be polished into the first volume… I can’t say for sure what spurred this on back then, however I couldn’t be any happier that I did it. Writing has been challenging and it takes frustratingly long to reach that back-matter page, but the satisfaction of having done it is truly fulfilling.
Here's a YT link of the scene if you're interested!
Now that you understand the humble beginnings of this series, let’s talk about the future of it, particularly, the sequel whose ebook officially went live on Amazon just a few days ago! I was surprised at how quickly the page went up on this very website! I’ve mentioned it in the past, but this direct sequel primarily focuses on the daily school life between Hiro (the dense MC-kun) and Tomo, who is now a cute girl. Hence the reason why it is subtitled: “Doki Doki School Days” which was actually suggested by the official artist by the way! Speaking of Miss Alice Vu, how about this incredible cover art, huh?! In this arc, some of the characters that were mentioned in Tomo’s briefing (from chapter 1) finally make their debut here! Sakura High’s super number one ultra-popular bubbly idol senpai Rumi-Rumi-chan and Shota Himegami, an idol hopeful have been masterfully brought to life by a true artisan of “moe kyun kyun~” and digital ink! Rumi certainly gives off that smug senpai vibe, wouldn’t you say? And with that glistening ice silver hair and gorgeously rendered dress and accessories, it’s not all that surprising to see why she’s so popular. As for the character who took the cover spotlight this time, Hime really does evoke the impression of someone trying their absolute hardest. I absolutely adore the cute outfit that Alice conjured up for him and those cute fangs are way too precious! You just can’t help but want to root for him! Ganbatte, Hime! You’ll get there one day, I’m sure of it! Honestly, it still amazes me how incredibly talented Alice is, to be able to create amazing original character designs from my words alone is no easy feat, but I’d say she really outdid herself this time! I’m beyond honored to be working with her on this series and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for the next one!
Yeah, it’s just as jaw-droppingly impressive as the first time I saw it. I think she really outdid herself this time! You absolutely nailed it, Alice!
After a few unfortunate delays, My Best Friend is Dense Harem Main Character-kun, But Why am I the Heroine?! Volume 2: Doki Doki School Days is finally here and I couldn’t be any happier to tell you folks this highly anticipated annoucement! I apologize for the long wait, but writing can be difficult and that’s on top of life’s own problematic hurdles. But even so, it really was quite the wait if you read it on Day One, so I’m really sorry about that T_T. On the bright side, I can say that Volume 3 is already in development! That’s right! The sequel to this sequel that just got announced today is being worked on as of this posting! It’s still too early to talk about the details of that one without going into spoiler territory, so look forward to a future post to hear more about it!
As always, this is the part where I tell you how grateful I am that you readers enjoy this crazy idea of mine. You wonderful and supportive people are why I can continue writing and feel motivated to do so. Thank you so much for all of the encouragement! I promise that the wait for the 3rd volume won’t be as glacially agonizing as it was for this one!
Please enjoy the latest installment of this cute, fluffy and heartwarming rom-com when you can get around to reading it and may you and your loved ones have a truly special and happy holiday! Happy New Year as well in case I don’t see ya!
-Until our next meeting in 2019!~
I’m more than pleased to announce that I’m finally finished with my moving arrangements and thankfully, the weather over here is quite lovely!
