Paper Plane

I’ve built a new contraption

A great big paper plane.

It’s very eco-friendly

It uses no propane.

It cannot hold much cargo

Its landings aren’t precise,

But when a nice big wind blows

It floats along real nice.

I’ve built a new contraption

The seating is not great.

There’s no room for a Captain

And none for a First Mate.

But it is very graceful

When looping through the sky

So please, come board my vehicle

The next time that you fly!

Wrapping

I once bought a gift for my friend who was sweet.

Since it was her birthday I bought her a treat.

The problem, of course, was I’d nothing for wrap—

No gift-bags or paper. Not even a scrap.

But I am resourceful, and I had a thought.

I’d wrap it in something quite soft that I’d bought.

A wrapping so lovely I’d make the girl weep—

The paper from toilets is lovely and cheap!

Feeding Food

I’ve heard there’s a new fashion in the world of chefs and cooks.

It’s meant to change the flavour of our food and how it looks.

It’s very complicated but I’ll try to summarize:

If you feed tasty things to food, your tongue will be surprised.

If you feed chickens spinach, then their eggs’ yolks will be gold.

If you feed special grass to cows, their steaks will taste quite bold.

And when learned these factoids, well. I realized what it meant:

It was high time for me to do a food experiment!

I gathered up some spices, many herbs, a little wine.

For each of these had flavors that would make my food taste fine.

I got each new component, and I lined them up in place,

I couldn’t wait to see how feeding food would change the taste.

But.

It turns out mozzarella has not got much appetite.

I offered herbs to tacos but they never took a bite.

And not a single apple had a sip of beer or wine.

It seems we each have many skills but this just isn’t mine!

Up A Tree

A fellow once lived up a tree.

He said, “It’s a great place to be!

I love the fresh air…

The weather is fair…”

So I said, “But how do you pee?”

Tall

There once was a man who was twenty feet tall.

He’d climb over fences and peek over walls.

With his head in the clouds and his feet on the floor,

He could climb over ceilings…

but not through the door.

Hawk

We once had a neighbourhood hawk.

Who’d coo, whistle, cackle and squawk.

He called out, once, “Wry!”

As my mother walked by.

“My gosh!” I exclaimed. “You can talk!”

The Chase

My breathing, now, was heavy and

My heart was beating fast.

I thought I might have got away

And I was free at last.

But then, I saw the boy again,

He’d followed close behind.

I had to get away, and quick—

Before I lost my mind!

I grimaced as I upped my pace

I made a final choice.

I rushed to tell a teacher, so much

Terror in my voice.

I told her that he’d chased me since

Before I got to school.

She looked at me and raised her brows.

“That’s just your shadow, fool.”

Two Tales

The sky is dark and stormy

I’m very lost for words.

The darkness makes it seem like

The sky is full of birds.

It’s really just the clouds there;

They cover up the sky.

Yet just like swooping sparrows

They float along up high.

The skies have burst and opened

Now drops are raining down.

And though they’re only water

I taste them and I frown.

Our air is quite polluted

The drops taste just like wee—

That poured down from the heavens—

That saturated me.

(This poem contains two stories. The second is read by reading only the even-numbered lines)

Glitter

I’ve got a thing for glitter.

I love its sparkly shine.

I love it on my jackets

And on my hats—divine.

But there’s one place I put it

That makes me smile the most—

I get a jar of glitter

And spread it on my toast!

My Uncle

My uncle is so clumsy that

He trips on gusts of breeze.

He ran into a building in

The middle of a sneeze.

And when he drives his car he hits

The gas instead of brake…

So last time he went driving

Uncle landed in a lake.

My uncle is so clumsy, when

He makes you cups of tea

He’ll often break a mug or two

And sometimes even three.

And if the man is ironing you

Would never dare to ring…

He’d answer on the iron, quite

A nasty, painful thing!
