Book Launch Fête [A Gift]

Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much. —Helen Keller

Last night we gathered for the Year of Tranquility Book Launch Fete to celebrate community, International Women’s Day, and the release of the book. Our group spanned from France, Japan, Canada, Mexico, and across the US. The above photos were snapped and shared during the event.

To begin, I read a favorite Marianne Williamson poem called “Our Deepest Fear,” led a few seated yoga poses, and encouraged a mindful check-in.

In honor of International Women’s Day, I shared a selection of my favorite feminist texts such as The Feminine Mystique, Backlash, and The Second Sex, and offered suggestions on living this holiday every day.

We read through an assortment of reflection questions and I highlighted parts from each of chapter such as how to art journal, tips on cleaning out the closet, ideas for Artist Dates, how to do a body scan, yogic principles for daily life, setting SMART goals, how to develop and express your personal brand, and more.

Next, I read pieces from Year of Tranquility such as the Manifesto, TDJ Tenets, Everyday Creativity, and Everyday Mindfulness along with a snippet from 12 Secrets of Highly Creative Women and The Artist’s Way.

To close we shared takeaways from the time together and ideas on next steps such as writing one’s own manifesto, making Artist Dates, remembering “progress not perfection,” and incorporating sweet details into everyday activities.

If you’d like to partake in the 75-minute gathering, here’s the replay as a gift. In exchange, I ask that you pay it forward by supporting a female friend’s new handmade bath product business [or equivalent], watching RBG, reading something by Gloria Steinem, sending a love note to a girlfriend who’s struggling, or smiling at a stranger.

The world needs more kindness and, as Maya Angelou said, “Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women.” Bisous. x

Live Rosé

Wear noir, live rosé. —my motto

Years ago I came up with the motto to wear black and live pink. It came from my inclination to wear head-to-toe black clothing (hey, everything matches) and to live with a sense of playfulness and panache.

I recently hosted a giveaway on Instagram where I asked people to share how they lived rosé. Answers included ballet, writing Morning Pages, yoga and creativity, wearing pink and vegan homemade herbal lip tint, enjoying the small moments, diffusing essential oils, singing songs from favorite musicals, being compassionate, cuddling with pups, and sipping tea.

Ah, just reading each of these transported me to a happy place! What does living rosé look like to you?

For me, it’s the same thing as seeking tranquility in the every day. This doesn’t mean that I’m tranquil all day (oh no!), it means that I seek pockets of it within a full (read: overstuffed at times) life.

As mentioned in a recent post, French composer Claude Debussy’s said, “Music is the space between the notes,” and I believe tranquility is found in the moments between the doing. That’s how I envision living rosé.

My days begin with caring for our four rescue pets, making morning tea and a green smoothie, diffusing peppermint essential oil, and going on two walks (since the three pups have different paces). Then I’ll settle in for admin work before a soak in the tub and daily dress-up (usually my uniform) followed by ballet three days a week and seeing clients until 8:30 most weekday evenings. Once home, evenings include family time, reading, and reflection. Rinse and repeat.

Weekends start similarly, but instead of seeing clients, I settle in for family time, working on projects (hello, forthcoming Daybook), meetups with friends, watching movies, and doing all that life stuff like laundry and organizing.

Although laundry and walking pups may not sound like living rosé, one can’t always be on retreat, in a yoga class, or out on the perfect date, so infusing those in-between moments with simple pleasures is crucial to our well-being.

Over the next week, consider how you, too, can live rosé by infusing sweet touches into your day. Maybe it’s listening to an inspiring podcast while cleaning the house, being fully present as you wash the dishes and feel the warm soap on your skin, or brewing a pot of loose leaf tea with rose buds versus getting something to go.

May our days (and lives) be sprinkled with rosé! Share below how you plan to live rosé. I think you’re beautiful. Bisous. x

Month in Review

February in Review

Although February went fast, the month was filled with a variety of experiences. From hosting a week-long retreat in Costa Rica, to taking 12 ballet classes, to working on the TranquiliT spring collection, to setting aside a day to declutter, to hosting Tranquility Salon on Sunday nights, to dreaming up the Year of Tranquility Book Launch Fete THIS Friday.

I finished How to Get Away and You are a Badass, and read nuggets from many others such as How Georgia Became O’Keefe and My Life on the Road. For some reason I’m unable to focus on one book at a time and the pile of books on the side of my bed continues to reproduce while I sleep. I blame used bookstores.

When I reviewed my February Dreams, I was delighted to see that many of the intentions had come forth—collaborations with clients, Love Notes, dance classes, online event planning, decluttering, daily greens, four podcasts, veterinary social work classes. Although there are a few missing the X through the box, I’m moving them into March and calling it a day. Most are not time sensitive, but rather wishes for streamlining and enhancing.

I hope you, too, are proud of your month. You showed up and did your best. Sometimes life has other plans—illness, caregiving, injuries, exhaustion—and that’s okay.

As Scarlett would say, “After all, tomorrow is another day!” You got this and so much more. Happy March, loves! Bisous. x

Spring Has Sprung at TranquiliT.com

It is [almost] spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart. —Rilke

In honor of National Pig Day, TranquiliT’s eight new designs are now available at TranquiliT.com. There are 16 colors to choose from this season. Honestly, this may be my favorite collection yet. I hope you love it, too!

We’ll be hosting a TranquiliT Pop-Up and a mini fashion show at our TDJ Soirée on Sunday, June 9. Click here to be added to the guest list.

As we prepare for this brand new season, let’s remember to savor the simple joys: fresh-cut daffodils, warm rain, a good book, iced green mint tea, clothing that feels good on the skin, botanical gardens, sunshine on the skin, picnics in the park, a Sunday afternoon bike ride. These sweet moments beckon us to bask in tranquility.

Thank you for supporting slow fashion that’s made to order locally using eco-friendly fabrics. A portion of all proceeds benefit Pigs & Pugs Project. Together we can make the world a more compassionate place. After all, compassion IS the new black.

Happy National Pig Day

In honor of National Pig Day, I’m writing to spread the pig love and invite you to Pigs & Pugs Project’s TWO spring events: Pigs, Pugs & Pinot and Yoga + the Animals.

Fun Facts About Pigs

1. Pigs are the fourth most intelligent animal (after chimps, dolphins, and elephants). Yes, even smarter than our dogs!

2. Pigs can run a seven-minute mile.

3. Pigs paint. You know Pigcasso, right?!

4. Pigs are actually quite clean. They use mud to cool off since they don’t have sweat glands (happy as a pig in mud!) and use the bathroom away from their living and eating space.

5. Esther the Wonder Pig lives in a home in Canada, wears adorable outfits, and was thought to be a “mini pig” who now weighs 650 pounds. She’s a social media sensation who has helped make pigs beloved globally.

6. Mini pigs grow to 300 pounds and teacup/micro pigs are a myth. Many are ending up in shelters or abandoned in cities (even DC).

7. You can meet (and adopt) pigs at a variety of sanctuaries around the world.

8. Pigs love belly rubs, are active communicators (grunts and squeals), and form close social bonds.

Please join us in honoring these beautiful beings today and every day! Pigs & Pugs Project’s mission is to make the lives of pigs and pugs happier.

We raises awareness through special events and supports the work of pig sanctuaries and pug rescue organizations throughout the United States through micro grants.

Here’s a peek at our work so far. We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events and thank you for your support!

Recipe for Tranquility

Wonder how best to infuse the day with moments of tranquility? As I was soaking in the tub after my morning pug walk and computer work, I came up with this blog post idea featuring the small, simple ways I strive to incorporate tranquility.

Pug kisses. Soaks in the tub. Green tea with mint. Ballet. Yoga. Pug walks. Journal writing. Aromatherapy. Goal review. Eating plants. Fresh flowers. Head-to-toe TranquiliT. Fun shoes, scarf, coat to spice up all black. Evening reflection. Artist Date plans. Green smoothie. Perfume spritzes. Sitting still and listening within—what do I want, think, feel? Being present with clients. Smiling at strangers. Plants and twinkle light decor. Layers, I feel swaddled. A good book or magazine. Images and washi tape in my planner. Looking at the moon.

Most days begin with pug feeding and walks, followed by tea time, a green smoothie, and admin work. Then a soak in the tub followed by daily dress-up and time with clients. Evenings include family time, reading, and reflection. All the other pieces are sprinkled throughout.

I love this quote by French composer Claude Debussy, “Music is the space between the notes.” I believe tranquility is the moments between the doing.

What do you think? What’s your daily recipe for tranquility? Bisous. x
