Life Lately

What I’m reading

I recently finished Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb and HIGHLY recommend it for insights on both sides of therapy.
Now I’m reading Wild Words by Nicole Gulotta (podcast interview coming) and Stories for my Sister by Elizabeth Duvivier (podcast interview coming).

What I’m excited about

New website. Can’t wait to share it!
Provence retreat (opens November 4).
Travel over the next two months: Oklahoma, Charleston, Paris, NYC, West Virginia.
Attending Puggerfest in Oklahoma City tomorrow.
Pugs & Pints on Sunday.
Making upcycled dog toys from TranquiliT scraps. (see last photo)

What I’m struggling with

Decluttering: home, schedule, and offerings.
Pug health issues.
Making time to write and create.

What I’m working on

Hip Tranquil Chick 13th Birthday Bash workbook and event. You’re coming, right?!
Tonight’s Tranquility Salon wrap-up event.
TranquiliT style guide and revamp (details to come).
Contemplating small lifestyle shifts.

What I’m wearing

Back to my uniform: capri leggings + 2in1 fitted top. Topped with a TranquiliT layer and tall boots.
Long leopard-print wrap dress my seamstress made that I wear over my TranquiliT. Note my black fleece perfect pants peeking out.

What I’m loving

Plants. Long, hanging ones.
Fleece TranquiliT pants and LOTS of layers.
Sitting fireside.
The moon’s phases.
Lilies, lots of lilies.

What I’m eating

Green smoothies (Gizmo, too! See above photo).
Weekly box from Purple Carrot.
Too much pizza.

What I’m grateful for

My furry family.
Tranquility Salon participants. LOVE!
Pigs & Pugs Project support.

My 168 Hours

Ever wonder where your time goes or how to get more of it? Feel like you spin your wheels and have little to show for it? Raise those hands, me, too!

Well, the good news is that we can get more clear by tracking it.

Here’s some interesting data: there are 168 hours in a week. If we subtract 50 work hours and 56 sleep hours, there are 62 hours leftover.

I always find those numbers surprising. Where ARE those 62 hours going?!

In Tranquility Salon, I chunked out my ideal schedule by family time, flex time, movement, creative space, AM/PM rituals (see above image). I noted that my ideal is quite similar to my current EXCEPT admin often takes place of my creativity and flex time. You know, those doctor’s appointments, vet appointments, never ending emails, grocery runs, transport maintenance for cars and bikes, and on and on.

For example, right now I’m sitting at the Jeep dealership to have a check engine light diagnosed. There are so many other things I’d rather be doing, but, alas, here I am with my laptop.

Although life often intervenes, I find it helpful to have a skeleton structure. That way I strive to intentionally incorporate activities that are important to me beyond work (hello family time, movement, and creative space).

Curious how your 168 hours look? You’ll find blank layouts in Year of Tranquility and the Tranquility du Jour Daybook. In case you need another copy, here’s a PDF for you to print.

Happy consciously creating your days. After all, as writer Annie Dillard reminds us, how we spend our days is how we spend our lives. You know, no biggie! Bisous. x

P. S. Check out these Tranquility du Jour podcasts with Laura Vanderkam for more inspiration:#199 on 168 hours, #263 on weekends, #306 at work, and #343 in life.

Save the Dates

Hello and happy Saturday!

I’m sitting fireside surrounded by three pugs and whiffs of pine-scented candles thinking of connecting with you.

Please save the dates for these TWO {free} events:

1. Hip Tranquil Chick‘s 13th Birthday Bash on Sunday, November 3 at 8pm ET happening HERE in our Book Club Group via Facebook Live. Thanks for your feedback in the survey. Please keep responses coming so I can create a meaningful event just for YOU! Can you believe she’s a teenager?!

2. Planning 2020 TDJ Syle on Sunday, December 29 at 8pm ET for all who purchase Year of Tranquility and/or Tranquility du Jour Daybook. If you signed up for your MANY bonuses, you’ll receive a personal invite in December to that email address. This will happen via a private YouTube Live link and you can RSVP here.

Thanks for all your support and I can’t wait for these upcoming celebrations with YOU! Bisous. x

P.S. In a workshop with poet David Whyte, he asked, “What’s one thing you could do today that your future self would thank you for?” While I ponder this today, I encourage you to do the same.

Giveaway: Want a Postcard from Paris?

Like snail mail? I know, silly question, who doesn’t?!

Here’s how to get a glittery Paris postcard:

1. Write a review of any of my books on Amazon.

2. Send me the link to it plus your snail mail addy.

3. I’ll send you a Paris postcard (yes, there’s actual glitter on it).

I so appreciate your support and sharing of these seven book babies.

Can you believe it’s been 13 years since Hip Tranquil Chick hit shelves?! I mean, we’ve practically grown up together!

Bisous. x

As Seen on TV: Top AM Tips

Last week I stopped by WUSA9 to share a few tips on ways to start the day.

My segment was slated for 9:10am, but when I arrived they shared that everything was on hold to live televise the impeachment inquiry. That meant we’d be taping instead. No problem, taping always feels like less pressure anyway and my hair curlin’ wouldn’t go to waste.

The segment aired Wednesday and here it is! Loved being with these ladies. Such fun energy first thing in the morning! x
