Tea with Kimberly: Time in Paris

Curious about planning a solo adventure? Wonder how you’d plan your days? Think you’d be scared to leave the hotel due to a poor sense of direction?
I hear you, thank goodness for Google Flights and Google Maps! Solo travel is scary and exhilarating all rolled into one.
In 2009, I headed to Paris solo for the first time and Tim joined a few days later. I shared each day’s adventures on the blog (here’s day 1), along with takeaways.
As soon as I arrived, I crashed and that’s a big no-no. You’re supposed to stay up and force yourself into the new time zone. Because of this faux pas, I never got on Paris time and would wake up each day in the early afternoon. This meant I had only a few hours of daylight and museum or shop time.
Lesson learned. This was pre-Google Map usage abroad, even cell phone usage abroad, so I carried my trusty map everywhere. It definitely wasn’t easy, but I stumbled upon Boulevard Saint-Germain and it became my compass. The street is filled with shops, theaters, and restaurants.
My solo trips are now much smoother thanks to my iPhone, establishing go-tos (like Shakespeare & Co), hitting local markets to stock up on food staples, and knowing enough French phrases to get by. Whew!
Before I left Paris in September, I recorded this video to share my tips while the adventure was still fresh. Get an inside peek into my 2019 Parisian summer adventures (including a haunted house and jazz bars). Learn my go-to tips to create a memorable experience on your own.
Hope this inspires you to consider a solo trip to a setting that nourishes your spirit the way Paris does for me. Bisous. x

Download your workbook at kimberlywilson.com/htc and settle in for an hour of togetherness.
I’d love to hear your takeaways from the experience. Were you reminded about a chapter that resonated? A tool that would help you with where you are now? A way to hone in on what matters most?

HTC Turned 13

Thank you SO much for joining me last night to celebrate Hip Tranquil Chick‘s 13th birthday. Whew, what a journey we’ve been on and there’s no one I’d rather have with me!
Above are some photos from last night’s gathering. The hour flew by as we reviewed the HTC definition of hip, tranquil, and chick (p. 2) and the manifesto (p. 7).
The replay is now available on the Tranquility du Jour book club Facebook group and will be on YouTube tomorrow.
Based on the survey feedback of where you need support, I shared a variety of highlights from the book:
Clarifying dreams pp. 62-65
Self-care practices pp. 76-77
Contemplating career shifts p. 109
Managing finances p. 120
Signature style p. 138
Home environment p. 143
When HTC released in 2006, I was a 33-year-old, self-employed yoga studio owner, in love with a non-profit attorney (Tim), and a pet parent. I dreamed of taking our newly formed non-profit, Tranquil Space Foundation, globally. HTC was my coming out as an author, lover of pink and leopard-print, and a proponent of kitten heels (now I love Swedish clogs). My vision was to spread the message that yoga wasn’t just poses on a sticky mat, but what I don’t know what that my life would become much more than yoga.
SO much change in the past 13 years: First black president, major party nominates a female candidate, marriage equality and growing awareness of non-binary people, plant-based meats everywhere (hello, Impossible Whopper), signed a two million dollar lease to grow Tranquil Space, biggest economic crash since Great Depression, had two surgeries to repair injuries, fed street dogs and cows in India, lost Louis the pug, lost Gramma, sold Tranquil Space, stopped teaching regular yoga classes, transitioned non-profit to Pigs & Pugs Project, launched my psychotherapy private practice, adopted three rescue pugs. Now my mission is to help women find more tranquility within their full (ahem, busy) lives.
Topics that I would add or go deeper into now (based on your survey response and my passions) are:
time management
entrepreneurship
minimalism
social media management
climate change
mental health
animal rights
The main lessons I’ve learned and continue to learn since HTC:
let go (goodbyes are necessary and when you can no longer show up as your best self, release), reinvention is key (transitions are hard and powerful), less is more (except when it comes to books and clogs), compassion is the new black (animals), appreciate simple pleasures, manage energy (HSP/INFJ), thoughts are not reality (positive = Teflon, negative = Velcro, and aging with ease.
I’m grateful for the ongoing evolution and especially grateful to you for being here with me. Merci and bisous. x
Pssst, the Daybook giveaway winner is @silvertoez. Congrats, Carrie and thank you for your ongoing support!

Helllooooo November

Welcome to a brand new month! I always love a fresh start, don’t you?
Over the weekend, I encourage you to pull out your journal, sketchbook, planner, Year of Tranquility, or Daybook to reflect and dream.
Consider . . . 1. What did you experience, accomplish, start, or ponder in October? 2. What would you like to experience, accomplish, start, or ponder in November?
Using ephemera (bits of paper), washi tape, a Sharpie, and your preferred book, put those November dreams on paper.
We have two months left in 2019 which is 1/6 of the year! There’s still plenty of time to review your year’s dreams and keep (or start) making progress toward what matters most. It’s one foot in front of the other, one tiny step at a time.
While reviewing my October dreams, I was only able to check three of my nine boxes. Some of the unchecked boxes involve other people (ex. new website), one goal I didn’t meet (ex. sell 50 tickets to Pugs & Pints), one I simply didn’t do (ex. donate five bags of stuff and two Tea with Kimberly videos—although I DO have a 20-minute Tea with K coming next week), and one is happening on Monday (open Provence retreat registration).
Rather than beating myself up (it IS a specialty), I’ll take the unchecked items into November, mark through what didn’t happen and was specific to October, and consider ways to get back on track (ex. set the Tea with K video ideas and schedule the recording).
Voilà, this process allows me to start the new month with reflection and intention setting PLUS a little celebration of what DID happen. Whew! You’ve got this and welcome to November, ladies! Bisous. x

Reclaiming Creativity Summit
We all know the power of creativity, right? I mean, I’m fresh back from doing a TV segment singing its praises for de-stressing! It helps EVERYTHING. Yes, I’m a creativity evangelist!
My friend Alisha Wielfaert of Yoga and Abundance has used creative practices to find her life purpose, quit a job that didn’t serve her, start a podcast, and create a business that encourages women through positive psychology and creativity.
She’s bringing everything she’s learned to a FREE online summit called Reclaiming Creativity: How to use the power of creative tools to unlock your inner wise woman and create the life you want.
I was so excited when Alisha invited me to be part of the summit. I’ll be sharing how creativity applies to your everyday life, how to bring creativity into everything you do, and my top three tips for accessing your creative spirit.
PLUS, you’ll get a inspiring and informative eight-page PDF filled with creative tips and tools (see below).
Psst, I’m first up THIS Thursday, so tune in and let me know what you think!
